Sharks' Stewart Released From Tryout

News: Anthony Stewart has been released from his tryout with the Sharks, La Presse's Marc Antoine Godin reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart lasted nearly a month on the tryout, but didn't quite make the cut. Outside of a 39-point campaign with the Thrashers in 2010-11, he's had a rather quiet career.

Torres Injury Opens Possibility For Stewart

News: The Sharks announced Monday that winger Raffi Torres will miss at least six weeks with a knee injury. That opens the door for someone to take his spot on the Sharks third line and Anthony Stewart is a contender for that role.
Analysis: While he's still without a contract from San Jose, Anthony Stewart makes a certain amount of sense to replace Torres--if management is looking for someone with the same skill-set as Torres. Stewart is a hard-hitting winger with a surprising amount of hockey sense. Though, if he gets the job, Stewart's fantasy value is low.

Stewart Gets Third Line Time In Sharks Camp

News: Anthony Stewart, on a professional tryout with the Sharks, saw a little time on the presumed third line alongside Joe Pavelski and Tomas Hertl in the first inter-team scrimmage, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart played most of the scrimmage on the "fifth line" alongside the Sharks AHL leaders Bracken Kearns and Freddie Hamilton, with the move to the third line coming late in the game. Stewart is a big body and has a lot to offer the Sharks in experience, but don't read too deeply into a line change during a scrimmage. The Sharks are giving Stewart a good look, but even if that interest turns into a roster spot, his fantasy value is very limited.

Stewart To Attend San Jose Tryout

News: The veteran forward will be attending a professional tryout with the Sharks according to Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart split time last year between Nottingham in England and Manchester of the AHL. Stewart is a veteran presence who could, at 6' 3" and 230 pounds, add a physical presence and some experience for the Sharks. However, he is one-year removed from NHL play and his 27 goals and 71 points in 262 career games means that if he makes the team his fantasy value is limited at best.

Kings' Stewart Called Up

News: Anthony Stewart was called up by the Kings on Friday, Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: This move provides the Kings some security depth, though Anthony Stewart seems unlikely to see the ice. In 30 games with AHL Manchester this season, the 28-year-old winger put up seven points (4G, 3A) and 31 penalty minutes.

Kings Assign Stewart To AHL Manchester

News: The Kings assigned Anthony Stewart to AHL Manchester on Tuesday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart was assigned to the AHL to make room on the Kings' roster for Anze Kopitar, who had been out with a knee injury. Stewart appeared in 157 NHL games over the last two seasons with the Thrashers and Hurricanes, so he will likely be the top option next time the Kings need to add another forward.

Kings Acquire Stewart

News: Carolina has traded Anthony Stewart, along with a 2013 fourth-round draft pick and a sixth-round choice in the 2014 draft, to the Kings for Kevin Westgarth, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart, who posted nine goals and 11 assists in 77 games last season for the Hurricanes, joins the Kings as a depth forward without a ton of fantasy upside.

Canes' Stewart Answers London Calling

News: Anthony Stewart has begun playing for the Nottingham Panthers of Britain's Elite Ice Hockey League, reports the New York Times.
Analysis: Well, this is peculiar. While others in the NHL are playing in parts of Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, Anthony Stewart will play two-and-a-half hours north of London, England. Aside from irony, the "Elite League" doesn't offer much, but it at least provides Stewart with ice time. The fourth-liner will need it in order to earn playing time if or when the NHL returns.

Canes' Stewart Snipes Two

News: Anthony Stewart had two goals in his first multipoint game for Carolina in Saturday's OT loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: He has certainly disappointed this season but there's a recent glimmer of hope in his game -- he has five points in his last six games. We're not declaring this a hot streak but he could deliver some cheap production off the wire.

Canes' Stewart Clears Waivers

News: Anthony Stewart cleared waivers Tuesday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart has 13 points (6G, 7A) through 50 games this season. His production is down from the 39 points he recorded in 80 games for the Atlanta Thrashers last year, and it's possible that he'll now be sent to Carolina's AHL affiliate.

News: The Hurricanes have placed Anthony Stewart on waivers, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart has 13 points and a plus-4 rating in six games for the Hurricanes this year.

Stewart Scores In Carolina Loss

News: Anthony Stewart notched his second goal in five games with a tally in Tuesday's shootout loss to Carolina.
Analysis: Anthony is hardly the scorer his brother, Chris, who plays for St. Louis, is, but Anthony contributes to the Canes in ways that are not always reflected on the box score. He fills more of a defensive role for Carolina and has eight points in 37 games.

Hurricanes' Stewart To Play Friday

News: Anthony Stewart (lower body) will play in Friday's game against the Blackhawks, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Anthony Stewart sat out the Hurricanes' last game Tuesday, but with nearly a week off since his last game, Stewart has had plenty of time to get healthy. He will fill his resume playing his reserve wing role Friday night.

Canes' Stewart Day-to-Day With Lower Body Injury

News: Anthony Stewart is day-to-day with a lower body injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: No word yet regarding his availability for Tuesday night, but we should know more following the morning skate.

Canes' Stewart Starting From The Top?

News: Anthony Stewart could find himself on the top scoring line in Carolina this season, as speculated by the Raleigh News & Observer.
Analysis: The Hurricanes must fill the void left by the offseason departure of veteran winger Erik Cole. Anthony Stewart, who is coming off a career year with the Thrashers that included 39 points, figures to be the right man for the job. His familiarity with opponents in the Southeast Division and expected union with captain Eric Staal and opposite Jeff Skinner, makes Stewart an intriguing breakout candidate in 2011-12.

Stewart Agrees To Contract With Hurricanes

News: Stewart agreed to a two-year, $1.8 million contract with the Hurricanes on Saturday, according to the Charlotte News & Observer.
Analysis: Stewart had a career year last season, setting personal bests with 14 goals, 25 assists, and 80 games played. The Hurricanes hope he will be able to provide some of the offense lost with Erik Cole's departure to Montreal.

Thrashers' Stewart Notches Assist

News: Stewart tallied a point in the opening period of Tuesday's 4-2 loss at the hands of the Devils.
Analysis: Stewart's assist gives him points in back-to-back games for the first time in over a month. He's not playing consistently right now and should not warrant regular starts this late in the season.

Stewart: 2 Assists; Thrash Shock Flyers In OT

News: Stewart's contributions came in the late stages of regulation and overtime in the Thrashers 5-4 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Prior to these helpers, Stewart had just two points in his previous 11 games. He's a good grinder, but not a consistent fantasy threat this late in the season.

Stewart: Goaless Drought Snapped At 13 Against Lightning

News: Stewart was right at the edge of the crease to bang a rebound home in the second period against Tampa by on Thursday night.
Analysis: Stewart finally netted his 1lth goal of the season after having gone exactly a month without scoring. His last tally game on December 20th in Toronto. Stewart looked like a legitimate fantasy player to end the 2010 calender year but has since tailed off considerably. It's probably best to pursue other options while he figures out how to get going again.

Stewart: Another Point As Thrash Falls To Tampa Bay

News: Stewart made a nice drop pass to Zach Bogosian in the second period of Sunday's game that got the Thrashers to within one of Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Stewart has points in five of his last six games. He might be worth picking up if you need a secondary scorer and you're willing to take a chance on an improved young talent.

Stewart: Still Rolling As Blues Drop Thrashers

News: Stewart grabbed another assist Tuesday when linemate Bryan Little buried a rebound past Ty Conklin on an odd-man rush in the first period.
Analysis: Stewart now has points in four straight games (two goals and five assists for seven points). He has developed chemistry with Little and Evander Kane, and the 2010-11 season is definitely Stewart's breakout year. You probably have other forwards still ahead of Stewart on your roster, but he is definitely someone to watch, especially if the scoring streak continues for a few more games.

Stewart: Points In Three Straight As Thrash Top Leafs

News: Stewart snapped a nice wrist shot past Jonas Gustavsson after Bryan Little made a heck of a play to turn the puck over in the offensive zone on Monday night.
Analysis: Stewart now has two goals and four assists on this scoring streak. It looks like he'll top 20 goals this season and he looks to have developed good chemistry with Evander Kane and Bryan Little.

Thrashers' Stewart: Pair Of Helpers As Thrashers Burn Devils

News: Stewart set up Evander Kane for a nice redirect goal in the first period and also assisted on Chris Thorburn's third period goal Saturday night.
Analysis: Stewart now has points in back-to-back games for the first time in about a month. He could top 50 points on the season if he plays a full 82 games. If he gets there, that would be seven times his career high of seven points set last year with the Florida Panthers.

Stewart: Two Point Effort For Thrash In Loss To 'Canes

News: Stewart scored with just a few minutes left in the second period on a mad scramble in front of Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward on Thursday night.
Analysis: Stewart also set up Evander Kane for a nice power-play goal earlier in the period. He is starting to develop as a scoring option for the Thrashers, but given the amount of young talent in front of him on the Thrashers depth chart, Stewart is not quite fantasy worthy this year.

Stewart: OT Winner Seals Sixth Straight for Thrashers

News: Stewart scored his seventh goal of the season on a wraparound that trickled through Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj less than two minutes into the extra frame Tuesday night.
Analysis: Stewart has points in three of his last four games, but there are clearly better options available for secondary scoring on your fantasy team as Stewart plays more of a checking role, rather than being counted on for consistent scoring.
