Flames' Giordano Concealed A Hand Injury

News: Mark Giordano revealed that he played through a hand injury over the final few games of the season, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: The injury prompted Mark Giordano to decline an invitation to play for Canada in the IHHF World Championships in Belarus next month, with doctors recommending that he take time to rest up. He's not expected to be limited once training camp kicks off in September. Despite missing 18 games due to injury this season, Giordano submitted a campaign worthy of Norris Trophy consideration. He totaled 14 goals, 33 points and a plus-12 rating over his 64 games.

News: Mark Giordano logged a goal, an assist, and a plus-5 rating Saturday as Calgary bludgeoned Edmonton, 8-1.

News: Mark Giordano scored on a power play and was whistled for eight penalty minutes in Saturday's 3-2 loss at Vancouver.
Analysis: On a per-game basis, he's a fantasy blue-line star, with 21 points in 31 games. In leagues with positional requirements, it's hard to beat a pace like that unless you're a forward or Bobby Orr.

News: Mark Giordano recorded one goal and one assist Monday against the Blues.
Analysis: Mark Giordano netted the game-tying goal with less than five seconds to go in the third period, which eventually led to his team getting the win in the shootout. The two points give him five in his last five games, so if he's not owned yet in any fantasy leagues, he certainly warrants a roster spot.

News: Mark Giordano registered a goal and an assist in his first game back since October 21.
Analysis: Mark Giordano burst back onto the scene Wednesday with two more points to move his season total to 11 through just nine games. If he continues at this pace, he should be considered one of the elite fantasy blueliners in the league, so if he's still available after being injured for so long, now would be a good time to scoop him up.

News: Mark Giordano (ankle) was able to skate with the Flames' main group during Saturday's morning session, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Mark Giordano was previously limited to skating by himself during practices, so his joining the rest of his teammates would seem to bode well for his chances of getting in some full-contact work beginning next week. He's missed over a month with the injury and still has about one-to-three weeks remaining on his projected return timetable.

Flames' Giordano Resumes Skating Tuesday

News: Mark Giordano (ankle) was back on the ice Tuesday for the first time since breaking his ankle in late October, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Mark Giordano is about halfway through the six-to-eight week timetable he was given after landing on IR on Oct. 26, but he could hit the low end of that period if he continues to steadily increase his on-ice work over the next two weeks. Prior to going down with injury, Giordano was one of the better-performing fantasy defensemen in the early going, totaling two goals and seven assists in eight games.
