Flames' Giordano Remains Hot

News: Mark Giordano notched an assist and four shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Mark Giordano still finds himself as the league's top-scoring blueliner with 41 points, and it's actually quite surprising he hasn't created some more separation from the Blues' Kevin Shattenkirk (39 points) in light of his recent play. In his last five games, Giordano has racked up six points and 17 shot attempts. If those shot totals keep up, the goals could start coming in droves for Giordano, who has surprisingly found the net just once in his last 13 contests.

Flames' Giordano Delivers Two Assists

News: Mark Giordano collected two assists in Saturday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Mark Giordano now has 39 points (11 goals) in 45 games, to go with a plus-20 rating. He has recorded at least one point in 31 games this season, making him the consistent fantasy defenseman thus far in 2014-15. Considering he is tied with Kevin Shattenkirk for the NHL-lead in defensemen scoring, Giordano is an automatic roll every game.

Flames' Giordano In Midst Of Cold Spell

News: Mark Giordano gathered a power-play assist and two PIM in Friday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Though the point allowed Mark Giordano to tie the Blues' Kevin Shattenkirk for the NHL scoring lead among defensemen, the Flames blueliner has found himself in the middle of a relative cold spell. Friday's helper snapped a four-game scoring drought for Giordano, his longest spell of the season. The 31-year-old has provided too much production at this point to justify benching him and still remains on track for a career year, but it's probably safer to bet on more established rearguard stars like the Preds' Shea Weber or Habs' P.K. Subban to deliver greater returns over the second half of the season.

Flames' Giordano Scores Game-Winner

News: Mark Giordano scored his tenth goal of the season -- a game-winner in overtime -- as the Flames beat the Kings 4-3 on Monday.
Analysis: Mark Giordano's lamp-lighter completed a fabulous comeback for the Flames after Johnny Gaudreau scored a natural hat trick to send the game to overtime. The stud defenseman now has 34 points, a plus-15 rating, 25 PIM and 86 SOG in 36 games this season, and has been the most valuable fantasy rearguard in the NHL this season, just ahead of the Blues' Kevin Shattenkirk, who has six less points than Giordano but has 18 power-play points to Giordano's nine.

Flames' Giordano Lights Lamp

News: Mark Giordano scored the lone Calgary goal in a 2-1 loss to Dallas on Friday.
Analysis: Mark Giordano has been one of the few constants remaining for Calgary during its seven-game losing streak. He has seven points in nine December games and continues to easily lead the NHL in defenseman scoring.

Flames' Giordano Still On Fire

News: Mark Giordano scored his eighth goal of the season in a 4-3 loss to Buffalo on Thursday.
Analysis: Incredibly enough, Mark Giordano has scored in all but six games this season and is eighth in scoring overall at 30 points. He has six more points than any other defender and has looked otherworldly this year.

Flames' Giordano Slowing, But Producing

News: Mark Giordano gathered an assist and attempted five shots on goal in Thursday's win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Mark Giordano hasn't provided a multi-point game since early November, but he's still been steadily producing to maintain his league lead in defensemen scoring. He's notched a point in all but two of his last 11 games, boosting his total to six goals and 21 assists on the season.

Flames' Giordano (Eye) Returns Wearing Visor

News: Mark Giordano (eye) returned to action to start the second period of Saturday's game sporting stitches to close a cut near the corner of his eye. He was wearing a visor.
Analysis: The eye was already starting to swell and bruise, and those trademark bushy brows appeared to be manicured differently to accommodate the treatment. But he was smiling and ready to go. #relief

Flames' Giordano Leaves Game After Stick In Face

News: Mark Giordano rushed to the Flames' dressing room in the first period of Saturday's game after he was hit near the eye with a stick. He does not wear a visor.
Analysis: Chris Neal took a shot and his stick went right up Mark Giordano's stick on the follow through, striking him in the face. Giordano hit the ice and then raced off toward the dressing room. Fingers crossed this is just a cut near his eye and doesn't involve the eye itself. More as the game progresses.

Flames' Giordano Reaches 20 Points

News: Mark Giordano found the net on one of his six shots on goal for his sixth marker of the season in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: That's 20 points in 18 games for Mark Giordano, who is looking like the leading contender for the Norris Trophy as the season's quarter pole approaches. The goal was Giordano's first game-winner of the season and extended his point streak to eight games.

Mark Giordano

Flames' Giordano Nets Three More Points

News: Mark Giordano added three more points -- a short-handed goal and two assists -- to his ledger in Saturday's 6-4 win over Florida.
Analysis: This guy is an absolute animal. Through 16 games, Mark Giordano has 18 points and a plus-8 rating -- as a defenseman. He leads all rearguards in points and currently sits one point behind Sidney Crosby and Jakub Voracek for the league lead. He's also provided some nice feistiness in the form of 17 PIM. The young Flames are scoring a ton with Giordano anchoring their back end, so it goes without saying that he should be active on your roster at all times.

Flames Lose, But Giordano Keeps Rolling

News: Mark Giordano assisted on both Calgary goals in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: One of those helpers came on the power play, where Mark Giordano's now collected four points on the year. With a five-game point streak going and a point-per-game pace through the season's first 15 tilts, he's been one of the best defenders in fantasy. Keep reaping the rewards.

Flames' Giordano Extends Point Streak To Four

News: Mark Giordano added a goal and an assist in Tuesday's overtime win against the Capitals.
Analysis: Mark Giordano made it four consecutive games with a point when he backhanded in the team's second goal, then assisted on the game winner in overtime. He's now recorded multiple points in two games in a row, and leads the team in points with 13. He continues to be a top defensive play at this point.

Flames' Giordano Nets Goal And Assist

News: Mark Giordano picked up a goal and an assist in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Mark Giordano is more or less keeping up with the pace of his break out season from a year ago, in which he posted 14 goals and 47 points. Particularly with the team off to its surprisingly good start, Giordano represents a top fantasy option on the blue line.

Calgary's Giordano Tallies Assist

News: Mark Giordano notched an assist in a 5-0 win over Carolina on Thursday.
Analysis: Mark Giordano's pace has slowed a little since a hot start to the season, but seven points in nine games for a defenseman is still stellar. There's no reason not to be starting Giordano at this point.

Four-Game Streak For Flames' Giordano

News: Mark Giordano picked up a goal and an assist Tuesday against the Predators to push his season-opening point streak to four games.
Analysis: Coming off a surprising breakout last year in which he set career highs with 14 goals and 47 points, Mark Giordano's doing a great job early on showing it was no fluke. He picked up his first power-play goal of the season Tuesday and looks to be set up to collect plenty of points as Calgary's top offensive defenseman.

Flames' Giordano Tallies Assist In Loss

News: Mark Giordano recorded an assist on Jiri Hudler's goal in Wednesday's opening night loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: He also fired two shots on net and skated to a team-high 25:39 of ice time (4:40 on the power play, also a team high) while recording a plus-1 rating. Regarded as one of the higher-end fantasy options on the blue line this season after last year's 47 points in 64 games, Mark Giordano should find the scoresheet more often than not -- as long as the offense in front of him produces.

Flames' Giordano Concealed A Hand Injury

News: Mark Giordano revealed that he played through a hand injury over the final few games of the season, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: The injury prompted Mark Giordano to decline an invitation to play for Canada in the IHHF World Championships in Belarus next month, with doctors recommending that he take time to rest up. He's not expected to be limited once training camp kicks off in September. Despite missing 18 games due to injury this season, Giordano submitted a campaign worthy of Norris Trophy consideration. He totaled 14 goals, 33 points and a plus-12 rating over his 64 games.

Flames' Giordano Scores Winner

News: Mark Giordano's power-play goal Monday against the Devils was the only goal in the game for either team. He also saw 28:21 of ice time.
Analysis: Perhaps buried in Calgary's disappointing year is the impressive season for Mark Giordano. He's scored 14 goals and 46 points in 61 games, and even though he plays a ton of minutes for a bad team, he's a plus-12.

Flames' Giordano Scores Goal In Friday Win

News: Mark Giordano scored his 13th goal of the season as the Flames beat the Rangers 4-3 on Friday.
Analysis: Mark Giordano broke a two-game scoring drought and gave the Flames an early 2-0 lead in the first period. He now has four goals and 12 assists here in the month of March and has 44 points of 56 games this season.

Calgary's Giordano Tallies, Finishes Plus-5

News: Mark Giordano logged a goal, an assist, and a plus-5 rating Saturday as Calgary bludgeoned Edmonton, 8-1.
Analysis: His season line of 12-31-43 places him 10th in the NHL among rearguards. Having such a player in the lineup is almost like starting another forward.

Flames' Giordano Picks Up Two More Helpers

News: Mark Giordano assisted on two goals in the Flames' 6-5 loss to the Predators on Friday.
Analysis: The 30-year-old has come out of the Olympics like a man possessed, as he's contributed two goals and 11 assists in the Flames' last 11 games. It wouldn't be surprising if he notched another point Saturday against a leaky Oilers defense.

Giordano Posts Another Helper In Flames' Road Loss

News: Mark Giordano bagged a power-play assist on Saturday's 3-2 loss at Phoenix. He fired nine shots on goal in the contest.
Analysis: You don't go hunting for fantasy offense in Calgary, but the fact that he's a blueliner makes Mark Giordano (11-28-39 in 50 games) worth a look in most position-dependent formats.

News: Mark Giordano suffered a gash during a first-period fight with Vancouver's Kevin Bieksa on Saturday night. He received medical attention in the locker room, then returned to action, firing seven shots on goal in 24 shifts on the night.
Analysis: Fear thee not; he should be back in the lineup when the Flames travel to Los Angeles to face the Kings on Monday.
