Canes' Liles Puts Up Three Points

News: John-Michael Liles scored a power-play goal and handed out two assists (one of those on the power play, too) in Thursday's 4-1 win over Dallas.
Analysis: A stunning breakout game for John-Michael Liles, who had only managed one goal and six points in 35 games this season entering Thursday's action. Once upon a time, Liles was a fantasy-relevant blueliner, but at age 33, his best days seem to already be well behind him, largely thanks to the bevy of injuries he's suffered in his career.

Canes' Liles Will Play Friday

News: John-Michael Liles (concussion) will play Friday against the Blackhawks, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles remained restricted to non-contact practice early in the week, but it seems he's shown enough in recent days to get the OK from the training staff. He missed six games as a result of the concussion.

Hurricanes' Liles Dons Non-Contact Jersey

News: John-Michael Liles (concussion) practiced in a yellow non-contact jersey Monday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles' presence on the ice Monday would suggest he's made another step forward in his recovery from the concussion, but he'll need to ditch the non-contact jersey before being viewed as close to returning. He's missed the last five games for the Hurricanes.

Canes' Liles Has Concussion

News: John-Michael Liles has been diagnosed with a concussion, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The blueliner will be sidelined indefinitely, but the Canes could be in luck, since Justin Faulk could be returning Thursday. John-Michael Liles has one goal and three assists in 28 games this season, so his absence shouldn't devastate any fantasy rosters.

Hurricanes Rule Liles Out For Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Coach Kirk Muller decided to officially rule John-Michael Liles out of action after he failed to practice Monday. There's no word on when he may return to the lineup, but Mike Komisarek will draw in to take his place in the meantime.

Hurricanes' Liles Dealing With Upper-Body Injury

News: John-Michael Liles (upper body) did not practice Monday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed Friday's game with the injury, leaving the Hurricanes a little shorthanded on the blue line with Justin Faulk also out with an upper-body ailment. Coach Kirk Muller will likely wait and see how Liles feels during Tuesday's morning skate before making a decision on his availability for the team's game vs. the Rangers.

Canes' Liles Out With Undisclosed Injury

News: John-Michael Liles suffered an undisclosed injury Friday and is not playing in Saturday's game.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles has just four points in 28 appearances this season, with two of those points coming in his last three games. He's been playing about 20 minutes per game recently, so the Canes have a big hole to fill on the blue line Saturday night against the Devils.

Canes' Liles Returns To Lineup

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Sabres.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed the Hurricanes' final game before the Olympic break with the injury, but with two and a half weeks to recover, he returns to the blue line in place of Mike Komisarek. He has two points and a plus-8 rating in 16 games with the Hurricanes since coming over in a trade from the Maple Leafs.

Canes' Liles Out For Saturday

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) will not play Saturday against the Canadiens,
Analysis: John-Michael Liles wasn't able to make enough progress in his recovery before pregame skate to be a legitimate consideration for Saturday's lineup. He'll be replaced by Mike Komisarek on Saturday, but should be back in the fold when the Hurricanes resume play after the Olympic break.

News: John-Michael Liles will likely be a game-time decision Saturday due to a lower body injury, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: The injury was suffered in the third period of Friday's win over Florida. John-Michael Liles finished the game with three shots on goal and five blocked shots in 18:54 of action.

Liles Scores First With 'Canes

News: John-Michael Liles scored his first goal in a Carolina jersey and went plus-2 in Thursday's win over his old team, the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: If you're a Leafs fan, you had to see this one coming after John-Michael Liles washed out of Toronto following two-plus seasons of ineffectiveness and injuries. It was the first point in 10 games this year for the American defenseman, and considering the emotional aspect of this goal, it's hard to expect more.

Liles Effective In First Game With Canes

News: John-Michael Liles played 15:45 and was a plus-2 in his first game with Carolina on Thursday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles didn't register a point, but he played well in a 4-3 overtime win over Washington. Liles saw 3:22 of power-play time, including a lengthy stint on the top unit. He is looking for a fresh start after being traded to Carolina for Tim Gleason. Liles will try to rediscover some of the talent that led him to 46 points in the 2010-2011 season.

Liles Set To Make Carolina Debut Thursday

News: John-Michael Liles will make his Hurricanes debut Thursday against the Capitals, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: At Thursday's morning skate, John-Michael Liles was paired with rookie Ryan Murphy and also saw time on the first power-play unit alongside Eric Staal, Jeff Skinner and Alexander Semin.  Liles played in just six games for the Maple Leafs before being traded to the Hurricanes on Wednesday, so hopefully the change of scenery will do him some good.

Leafs Deal Liles To Hurricanes

News: John-Michael Liles was traded to the Hurricanes on Wednesday in exchange for Tim Gleason, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: It's a change of scenery deal for both sides, as John-Michael Liles had been rendered a healthy scratch most nights for the Leafs after being a major disappointment since inking a four-year extension back in January 2012. The move to Carolina should allow him to assume a regular spot in the lineup, though it remains to be seen where coach Kirk Muller will plug him in.

Leafs Recall Liles

News: John-Michael Liles was recalled from AHL Toronto on Friday, Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Coach Randy Carlyle has expressed a desire for his defensemen to push the puck, and he believes John-Michael Liles can fulfill that request. He skated on the third pairing with Mark Fraser at Friday's practice and appears on track to get a shake in the lineup for at least Saturday's game against the Senators.

Leafs Demote Liles To AHL

News: John-Michael Liles was reassigned to AHL Toronto on Friday, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles had been a healthy scratch for each of the Leafs' games after he was recalled from the AHL on Oct. 28. Trevor Smith was called up in a corresponding move.

Liles Recalled By The Leafs

News: John-Michael Liles was recalled from AHL Toronto by the Maple Leafs on Monday, James Mirtle of the Toronto Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles has played in eight games with the Marlies of the AHL this season, scoring one goal and adding four assists to go along with eight penalty minutes. He is being brought up to provide some defensive depth for a Western Canada road trip with the Leafs.

Leafs Place Liles On Waivers

News: John-Michael Liles was placed on waivers Sunday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles is due a healthy sum of money if he were to be picked up off waivers, so for that reason alone, he may remain with the Maple Leafs even though he could certainly help another club right now. The 32-year-old signed a four-year extension last January, only to see his production tail off dramatically during the strike-shortened 2012-13 campaign. He amassed only nine points and a minus-1 rating over 32 games.

Leafs' Liles: Two Points In Win

News: John-Michael Liles, who is in tough to earn a roster spot, scored a power-play goal in Saturday's win over Detroit. He also added an even-strength assist.
Analysis: A trade would be the best thing for John-Michael Liles, so this game was a good showcase. He's currently outside the Leafs' top six, but might earn the seventh defender's role.

Leafs' Liles In Tough For Roster Spot

News: John-Michael Liles knows he's in tough to earn a roster spot with the Leafs, so he spent the summer training at altitude in Vail, Colorado to improve his overall fitness, reports the Toronto Star. "This is at 8,500 feet, and training at Denver is pretty challenging at 5,300 feet," said Liles. "But this is something I wanted to try this season, it really helps test your fitness."
Analysis: The camp has also attracted the likes of Sidney Crosby and Matt Duchene. The Leafs expect a demanding training camp that emphasizes skating and physical play, and John-Michael Liles -- who was a healthy scratch a lot last season -- may not emerge as a top-six player. A change of scenery would certainly improve his fantasy value.

Leafs' Liles Returns to Lineup Friday

News: John-Michael Liles will return to the lineup and be paired alongside Ryan O'Byrne, James Mirtle of TSN1050 reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles was a healthy scratch on Wednesday, but will return to the lineup to add a quicker presence on the blue line. The Leafs enter a must win Game 5 as they are down 3-1 to the Bruins.

Leafs Rest Liles On Wednesday

News: Based on warmups, John-Michael Liles will be rested by the Leafs on Wednesday, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles, who checks in with 10 points in 30 games to date, appears to be a healthy scratch Wednesday against the Lightning, as the Leafs do some pre-playoff roster/rest management.

Leafs' Liles Back In The Flow

News: John-Michael Liles notched an assist Saturday against the Senators.

Leafs' Liles Ready

News: John-Michael Liles (ankle) is available for Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: That said, it's unclear if he will suit up, though if the team decides to roll with seven defensemen Thursday, John-Michael Liles will presumably be one of them.

Leafs' Liles Out Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (ankle) won't play in Tuesday's game against the Panthers, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles took pre-game warmups Tuesday though, suggesting that he is close to being available for action.
