Carolina's Liles Returns

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) returned to action Sunday against the Rangers. He saw 18:34 of ice time in the defeat.
Analysis: The blueliner missed the Hurricanes' previous three games. He finished Sunday's contest with no points on two shot attempts, and chipped in two hits and a blocked shot on the defensive end.

Carolina's Liles Skates Saturday, But Likely Out

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) took part in Saturday's gameday skate, but appears unlikely to play later in the evening against the Rangers.
Analysis: Because the Hurricanes will be playing the first game of a back-to-back set with the Rangers on Saturday, it seems like coach Bill Peters could be hesitant to slot John-Michael Liles back in the lineup for two games right off the bat. He remained on the ice for extra work after the morning skate concluded, suggesting he'd serve as a scratch for Saturday's game. Though he'll miss his third straight contest, there would seem to be a good possibility that he returns to action for the rematch Sunday in New York.

Hurricanes' Liles To Miss Anotehr

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not be in the lineup Thursday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Viewed as questionable to play heading into Thursday, John-Michael Liles still appears to be under the weather and will miss his second straight match as a result. A void was created on defense by the Hurricanes' decision earlier in the day to trade Jay Harrison to the Jets, but it will be Brett Bellemore rather than Liles who steps in to fill the vacancy.

Hurricanes' Liles Out Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Considered a game-time decision heading into the evening, John-Michael Liles wasn't able to take part in the team's pregame session, making it safe to rule him out for Tuesday's affair. He'll be replaced on the Hurricanes' second pairing by Jay Harrison.

Hurricanes' Liles Dealing With Illness

News: John-Michael Liles is dealing with an illness and will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: The illness prevented John-Michael Liles from taking part in Tuesday's morning skate, and it could prevent him from taking the ice Tuesday night as well.

Hurricanes' Liles Assists On Two

News: John-Michael Liles assisted on two goals in Tuesday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Though he doubled his point total over the previous 11 games of the season, John-Michael Liles found himself on the ice for four Dallas goals, finishing with a minus-2 rating on the night. With limited offensive involvement at this stage of his career and weak hit and penalty minute totals, Liles won't carry much fantasy value when he finds himself in the lineup.

Canes' Liles To Serve As Healthy Scratch

News: John-Michael Liles remained on the ice for extra work at morning skate and looks to be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Jay Harrison is set to enter the lineup in place of John-Michael Liles, who has one point and a minus-3 rating through five games on the season. The Hurricanes don't have a defined seventh defenseman on their roster, so expect a number of blueliners to rotate in and out of the lineup for the games to come.

Carolina's Liles Set To Play Thursday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper-body soreness) is slated for a return to action Thursday against the Flames.
Analysis: Coach Bill Peters acknowledged after the Hurricanes' morning session that Brett Bellemore and Jay Harrison would be scratched on defense Thursday night, paving the way for John-Michael Liles' return to the lineup. Liles has one point and four shot attempts through three games, during which he's averaged 18:40 of ice time.

Hurricanes' Liles Out Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper-body soreness) has been cleared for contact, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles is showing improvement, but he is not ready to play just yet, so he will miss his second straight game Tuesday night. With him back on the ice, however, he could return to action as soon as Thursday.

Canes' Liles In Non-Contact Jersey At Practice

News: John-Michael Liles was in a yellow, no-contact jersey at the Hurricanes practice on Sunday, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: The 33-year-old defenseman did not play in Carolina's game on Thursday against the Rangers and his status for Tuesday's game against the Jets is in question. John-Michael Liles has one assist in three games so far this season.

Liles (Soreness) Could Play Tuesday Vs. Jets

News: Coach Bill Peters said John-Michael Liles (general soreness) is close to returning, reports Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News-Observer.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed Thursday's game against the Rangers after getting a little banged up Tuesday against Buffalo. The Canes' next game isn't until Oct. 21 against Winnipeg, giving Liles plenty of time to heal up. We expect he will suit up against the Jets.

Carolina's Liles Likely Out Thursday

News: John-Michael Liles (general soreness) didn't take part in morning skate and looks to be out of the lineup Thursday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Coach Bill Peters said that John-Michael Liles was "banged up" after Tuesday's game against the Sabres and is being listed as day-to-day. It appears Brett Bellemore will take his spot in the Carolina lineup.

Hurricanes' Liles Banged Up

News: John-Michael Liles (undisclosed) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Coach Bill Peters said John-Michael Liles got "banged up" late in Tuesday's loss to the Sabres, resulting in his absence from practice. The team's medical staff will assess his health after Thursday's morning skate before determining if he'll be ready to go for the game against the Rangers.

Canes' Liles Scores Goal In Preseason Finale

News: John-Michael Liles scored a goal in the Hurricanes 5-2 loss to the Capitals on Sunday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles was fighting for a roster spot this preseason, but it appears he'll have earned his way onto the team at the start of the season. He also logged some time on special teams, both on the power play and shorthanded, so he play a valuable role in Carolina this year, but he probably won't put up great fantasy numbers.

Liles Likely To Win Roster Spot With Hurricanes

News: John-Michael Liles saw 20:27 worth of ice time - including almost three minutes on the power play - and chipped in an assist during Wednesday's 6-3 preseason loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles spent most of last season playing for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL before being traded to Carolina in January. He saw an increased workload for the Hurricanes, averaging roughly 20 minutes of ice time in 35 games. Liles' best days as an offensively-creative defenseman appear to be behind him, however with two years left on his contract he will likely stick around long enough to mentor the young, up-and-coming blueliners the Canes have on their roster, like Justin Faulk (22) and Ryan Murphy (21). He will likely play on the Canes' second or third defensive pairing this upcoming season and see a decent amount of power-play minutes. Just don't expect a huge spike in his offensive totals.

Canes' Liles Puts Up Three Points

News: John-Michael Liles scored a power-play goal and handed out two assists (one of those on the power play, too) in Thursday's 4-1 win over Dallas.
Analysis: A stunning breakout game for John-Michael Liles, who had only managed one goal and six points in 35 games this season entering Thursday's action. Once upon a time, Liles was a fantasy-relevant blueliner, but at age 33, his best days seem to already be well behind him, largely thanks to the bevy of injuries he's suffered in his career.

Canes' Liles Will Play Friday

News: John-Michael Liles (concussion) will play Friday against the Blackhawks, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles remained restricted to non-contact practice early in the week, but it seems he's shown enough in recent days to get the OK from the training staff. He missed six games as a result of the concussion.

Hurricanes' Liles Dons Non-Contact Jersey

News: John-Michael Liles (concussion) practiced in a yellow non-contact jersey Monday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles' presence on the ice Monday would suggest he's made another step forward in his recovery from the concussion, but he'll need to ditch the non-contact jersey before being viewed as close to returning. He's missed the last five games for the Hurricanes.

Canes' Liles Has Concussion

News: John-Michael Liles has been diagnosed with a concussion, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The blueliner will be sidelined indefinitely, but the Canes could be in luck, since Justin Faulk could be returning Thursday. John-Michael Liles has one goal and three assists in 28 games this season, so his absence shouldn't devastate any fantasy rosters.

Hurricanes Rule Liles Out For Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper body) will not play Tuesday against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Coach Kirk Muller decided to officially rule John-Michael Liles out of action after he failed to practice Monday. There's no word on when he may return to the lineup, but Mike Komisarek will draw in to take his place in the meantime.

Hurricanes' Liles Dealing With Upper-Body Injury

News: John-Michael Liles (upper body) did not practice Monday.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed Friday's game with the injury, leaving the Hurricanes a little shorthanded on the blue line with Justin Faulk also out with an upper-body ailment. Coach Kirk Muller will likely wait and see how Liles feels during Tuesday's morning skate before making a decision on his availability for the team's game vs. the Rangers.

Canes' Liles Out With Undisclosed Injury

News: John-Michael Liles suffered an undisclosed injury Friday and is not playing in Saturday's game.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles has just four points in 28 appearances this season, with two of those points coming in his last three games. He's been playing about 20 minutes per game recently, so the Canes have a big hole to fill on the blue line Saturday night against the Devils.

Canes' Liles Returns To Lineup

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) is in the lineup Tuesday against the Sabres.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed the Hurricanes' final game before the Olympic break with the injury, but with two and a half weeks to recover, he returns to the blue line in place of Mike Komisarek. He has two points and a plus-8 rating in 16 games with the Hurricanes since coming over in a trade from the Maple Leafs.

Canes' Liles Out For Saturday

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) will not play Saturday against the Canadiens,
Analysis: John-Michael Liles wasn't able to make enough progress in his recovery before pregame skate to be a legitimate consideration for Saturday's lineup. He'll be replaced by Mike Komisarek on Saturday, but should be back in the fold when the Hurricanes resume play after the Olympic break.

Canes' Liles A Game-Time Decision Saturday

News: John-Michael Liles will likely be a game-time decision Saturday due to a lower body injury, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: The injury was suffered in the third period of Friday's win over Florida. John-Michael Liles finished the game with three shots on goal and five blocked shots in 18:54 of action.
