Canes' Liles Sets Up Two In Loss

News: John-Michael Liles set up two of the Hurricanes' three goals in Monday's narrow loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: With 19 assists in 54 games, John-Michael Liles has been a sneaky asset in that category in deep leagues, but his overall profile still isn't especially attractive. He's not a goal scorer (only two on the season) and isn't overly physical on the defensive end, either, as evidenced by his 68 hits and 14 PIM. Moreover, he'll turn 35 in November, so he's rather unlikely to make a return to the glory days.

Canes' Liles: Three-Game Point Streak

News: John-Michael Liles tallied an assist and put up six shot attempts in Monday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles has assists in his last three games, while missing one contest in between due to a lower-body injury. At 34 years old, Liles is well removed from his years of steady 40-point production with the Avalanche in the mid-to-late 2000s, but he still represents one of the better puck movers on a Hurricanes blue line that lacks high-end talent.

Canes' Liles Likely Back In Saturday

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) skated as part of the second pairing at Saturday's morning skate, an indication he'll likely play later in the evening against the Rangers.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed the Hurricanes' previous game Thursday against the Canadiens with the injury, but was able to return to practice Friday. The blueliner has two goals, 16 points, and a minus-6 rating over 45 games this season.

Canes' Liles Returns To Practice

News: John-Michael Liles (lower body) returned to practice Friday, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles missed Thursday's game against the Canadiens, after suffering the injury during Tuesday's game against the Senators. He can be considered questionable for Saturday's matchup with the Rangers.

Canes' Liles Has Lower-Body Injury

News: John-Michael Liles suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday's loss to the Senators and has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Canadiens, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The Hurricanes will call up Danny Biega from AHL Charlotte to take John-Michael Liles' lineup spot for at least Thursday's game. The 34-year-old Liles has two goals, 14 assists, and a minus-6 rating over 45 games this season.

Canes' Liles (Scratch) To Rejoin Lineup Saturday

News: John-Michael Liles, who sat out the previous two games as a healthy scratch, will return to the lineup Saturday against Florida, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles will take the place of Ryan Murphy, who took part in the morning skate but will sit out against the Panthers due to illness. With 15 points in 42 games, Liles has been a decent contributor offensively when he plays, but until he can find himself a regular spot in the lineup, it's hard to recommend him for fantasy purposes.

Canes' Liles Assists In Win Over Isles

News: John-Michael Liles recorded an assist and was plus-2 during Saturday's 5-3 win over the Islanders. It was his 13th point of the season and fifth in his last 11 games.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles has found himself serving as a healthy scratch numerous times this season; however, following the recent trades that sent Andrej Sekera and Tim Gleason to the Kings and Capitals, respectively, the Canes are now a little thinner on the blue line, and we suspect Liles will see more regular minutes going forward.

Liles Back And Producing In Canes' Lineup

News: John-Michael Liles recorded a power-play assist - his third helper in the past five games - during Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: After sitting out for most of January as a healthy scratch, John-Michael Liles now seems to have cemented himself a regular spot in the lineup, playing mostly on the Canes' second defensive pairing with Tim Gleason. Furthermore, with Ryan Murphy (leg) currently on IR, we suspect Liles should continue to see regular minutes for the time being. For fantasy purposes, if you are in need of a guy averaging roughly 20 minutes per night with some second-line PP time thrown in, Liles just might fit the bill.

Canes' Liles Scratched Versus Bolts

News: John-Michael Liles was a healthy scratch for the third straight game Tuesday versus the Lightning.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles' fantasy value has taken a sharp hit in recent weeks, as he has missed 12 of the past 18 games. He was recently cleared to play following a bout of illness, but now cannot seem to find himself a spot in the lineup. It will probably take an injury to one of the Hurricanes' regular defensemen before he does so. Keep him on your bench for the time being.

Hurricanes' Liles Will Return Thursday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) was activated from IR and will play Thursday against the Sabres.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles will return to action Thursday after missing the last five games. It's not exactly clear where he will line up, but he figures to form half of the Hurricanes' second defensive pairing alongside Ron Hainsey.

Canes' Liles (Illness) Returns To Practice Monday

News: John-Michael Liles returned to practice Monday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles was placed on injured reserve last Tuesday, making him eligible to return for the Hurricanes' game Tuesday against the Predators. His return to practice means that he is still an option for the game, but the team will likely provide an update on his status prior to the contest.

Hurricanes Move Liles (Illness) To IR

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: The IR placement will leave John-Michael Liles unavailable for at least the Hurricanes' next two contests. Ryan Murphy was recalled from AHL Charlotte to provide the Hurricanes with an extra body on defense in the interim.

Canes' Liles (Illness) Out Wednesday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Penguins, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: It isn't a great sign for John-Michael Liles that he was ruled out more than 24 hours before the game. He'll miss a second straight contest, and will hope to be back for Friday's matchup with the Flyers.

Canes' Liles (Illness) Not Practicing Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) is not practicing Tuesday NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: After missing Monday's matchup with the Canadiens, John-Michael Liles is seemingly in danger of missing Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh. He's dealing with an illness for the second time this month.

Hurricanes' Liles Out Monday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not play in Monday's game against the Canadiens, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles battled an illness earlier this month and missed three games, so he could miss more action beyond Monday's game.

Canes' Liles Questionable For Monday

News: John-Michael Liles is questionable with flu-like symptoms for Monday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: The blueliner has a goal and six assists in 25 games to date, but missed the team's morning skate Monday, and will sit out the game as well if he doesn't start feeling better.

Carolina's Liles Returns

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) returned to action Sunday against the Rangers. He saw 18:34 of ice time in the defeat.
Analysis: The blueliner missed the Hurricanes' previous three games. He finished Sunday's contest with no points on two shot attempts, and chipped in two hits and a blocked shot on the defensive end.

Carolina's Liles Skates Saturday, But Likely Out

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) took part in Saturday's gameday skate, but appears unlikely to play later in the evening against the Rangers.
Analysis: Because the Hurricanes will be playing the first game of a back-to-back set with the Rangers on Saturday, it seems like coach Bill Peters could be hesitant to slot John-Michael Liles back in the lineup for two games right off the bat. He remained on the ice for extra work after the morning skate concluded, suggesting he'd serve as a scratch for Saturday's game. Though he'll miss his third straight contest, there would seem to be a good possibility that he returns to action for the rematch Sunday in New York.

Hurricanes' Liles To Miss Anotehr

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not be in the lineup Thursday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Viewed as questionable to play heading into Thursday, John-Michael Liles still appears to be under the weather and will miss his second straight match as a result. A void was created on defense by the Hurricanes' decision earlier in the day to trade Jay Harrison to the Jets, but it will be Brett Bellemore rather than Liles who steps in to fill the vacancy.

Hurricanes' Liles Out Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Considered a game-time decision heading into the evening, John-Michael Liles wasn't able to take part in the team's pregame session, making it safe to rule him out for Tuesday's affair. He'll be replaced on the Hurricanes' second pairing by Jay Harrison.

Hurricanes' Liles Dealing With Illness

News: John-Michael Liles is dealing with an illness and will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: The illness prevented John-Michael Liles from taking part in Tuesday's morning skate, and it could prevent him from taking the ice Tuesday night as well.

Hurricanes' Liles Assists On Two

News: John-Michael Liles assisted on two goals in Tuesday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Though he doubled his point total over the previous 11 games of the season, John-Michael Liles found himself on the ice for four Dallas goals, finishing with a minus-2 rating on the night. With limited offensive involvement at this stage of his career and weak hit and penalty minute totals, Liles won't carry much fantasy value when he finds himself in the lineup.

Canes' Liles To Serve As Healthy Scratch

News: John-Michael Liles remained on the ice for extra work at morning skate and looks to be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Jay Harrison is set to enter the lineup in place of John-Michael Liles, who has one point and a minus-3 rating through five games on the season. The Hurricanes don't have a defined seventh defenseman on their roster, so expect a number of blueliners to rotate in and out of the lineup for the games to come.

Carolina's Liles Set To Play Thursday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper-body soreness) is slated for a return to action Thursday against the Flames.
Analysis: Coach Bill Peters acknowledged after the Hurricanes' morning session that Brett Bellemore and Jay Harrison would be scratched on defense Thursday night, paving the way for John-Michael Liles' return to the lineup. Liles has one point and four shot attempts through three games, during which he's averaged 18:40 of ice time.

Hurricanes' Liles Out Tuesday

News: John-Michael Liles (upper-body soreness) has been cleared for contact, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: John-Michael Liles is showing improvement, but he is not ready to play just yet, so he will miss his second straight game Tuesday night. With him back on the ice, however, he could return to action as soon as Thursday.
