Former Avalanche Preissing Signs On With KHL

News: Preissing has signed with Barys Astana of the KHL.
Analysis: Preissing departs the NHL after just six seasons, having played for four teams - San Jose, Ottawa, Los Angeles and Colorado. In 326 NHL games, Preissing had 31 goals and 101 assists.

Preissing placed on waivers

News: The Avalanche have placed D Tom Preissing on waivers.
Analysis: Preissing has really struggled to break into the Avs lineup since his move from the Kings and clearly isn't going to be worth using in Fantasy play for the time being.

Preissing struggles in Avs debut

News: D Tom Preissing made his Avalanche debut Saturday against Vancouver and was a minus-4 in 13:07 of ice time. Preissing missed all of training camp and the first 19 regular-season games to recover from arthroscopic knee surgery.
Analysis: Preissing was part of the trade that sent Ryan Smyth to Los Angeles. Colorado is really hoping to revive Preissing's careert after a few down seasons with the Kings. Preissing has offensive skills, but until he starts to look like his former self, he has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Preissing sent for conditioning

News: The Avalanche sent D Tom Preissing (knee) to Lake Erie of the AHL on a conditioning assignment. He has been out all season following knee surgery.
Analysis: The Avalanche have done quite well in Preissing's absence and have a pretty full blue line without him. It will be interesting to see how they work the veteran blueliner into the mix. Preissing definitely has some offensive skills, but remains a wait-and-see Fantasy project.

Preissing out indefinitely

News: The Denver Post reports that Avalanche coach Joe Sacco described D Tom Preissing as being out indefinitely. Preissing had his knee scoped in late September and was supposed to be out 4-6 weeks. He skated on Tuesday.
Analysis: The Avalanche acquired Preissing from the Kings this offseason. The 30-year-old had three goals and four assists in 22 games for the Kings last season. He remains a sleeper option in deeper formats when healthy.

Preissing out 4-6 weeks

News: The Avalanche will be without D Tom Preissing for four to six weeks after the defenseman had a scope done on his right knee.
Analysis: The Avalanche acquired Preissing from the Kings this offseason. The 30-year-old Preissing, a former Colorado College standout, had three goals and four assists in 22 games for the Kings last season. He remains a sleeper option in deeper formats, but loses a bit of value with this news.

Preissing gets fresh start with Avs

News: The Los Angeles Kings acquired left wing left wing Ryan Smyth from the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night for defensemen Kyle Quincey and Tom Preissing and a fifth-round draft pick next year. "We are pleased to be adding two quality NHL defensemen," Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman said. "Kyle and Tom are both versatile players who can contribute at both ends. They will add defensive depth to our lineup."
Analysis: The 30-year-old Preissing, a former Colorado College star, had three goals and four assists in 22 games for the Kings last season. He has really been a bust for the Kings since signing a huge free-agent contract in the summer of 2007. He gets to leave coach Terry Murray's doghouse and get a fresh start with the Avs. They should use his veteran presence on the blue line and hopefully Preissing can get back to his puck-moving ways. Consider Preissing a low-end Fantasy option Draft Day with sleeper potential.

Preissing passes through waivers

News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports veteran defenseman Tom Preissing cleared waivers Tuesday and was assigned to Manchester of the AHL Wednesday.
Analysis: Preissing was just activated off injured reserve after spending a few weeks there with a bout of dizziness. He has really been a free-agent bust since joining the Kings in 2007-08, and it doesn't seem Preissing has a future with the team. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Analysis: Preissing was just activated off injured reserve after spending a few weeks there with a bout of dizziness. He has really been a free-agent bust since joining the Kings in 2007-08, and it doesn't seem Preissing has a future with the team. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Preissing activated off of IR

News: The Kings activated D Tom Preissing on Sunday, after he missed 22 games because of an undisclosed upper-body injury, but he didn't play against the team's game against Chicago.
Analysis: Preissing was a big free agent acquisition for the Kings but has been mostly a bust as he was a healthy scratch frequently earlier in the season before he went on the IR. He has little Fantasy value and should be ignored until he starts to contribute.

Preissing back on ice Monday

News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports Kings D Tom Preissing was back on the ice Monday after overcoming a mysterious case of dizziness that started in early February. Terry Murray said all of Preissing's tests came back clean and that the defenseman is feeling better.
Analysis: Preissing has been a huge free-agent bust since arriving in Los Angeles last season and has been a healthy scratch plenty since December. He has played just five games since Dec. 1. It seems he is OK, but that doesn't mean Los Angeles is going to start playing him anytime soon. Preissing has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Preissing out with dizziness

News: The Los Angeles Daily News reports Kings defenseman Tom Preissing dealt with a bout of dizziness over the weekend after a flight from Ottawa and has been sent back to Los Angeles for tests. "He has dizziness issues, and that's all I really know," coach Terry Murray said. "It happened as we got into Ottawa. He had a couple days in practice where he was not feeling good, feeling dizzy. The decision was made to let him get back to L.A., to see if they could find something. I'm not assuming anything here, and not trying to compare, but when I was with Philadelphia as an assistant coach, we had (goalie) Jeff Hackett come through from Montreal after a trade. He came in and played and got vertigo, and he wasn't able to play. He never did play again; that was it for him. Don't read into that with Preissing; it's just what happened with that one player. Hopefully the doctors find something that's just an infection and it's taken of."
Analysis: Preissing has been a huge free-agent bust since arriving in Los Angeles last season and has been a healthy scratch plenty since December. He has played just five games since Dec. 1. We surely hope for the best with Preissing, but he has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Preissing can't get into lineup

News: Kings D Tom Preissing was a healthy scratch for the eighth time in nine games Wednesday against the Avalanche. Preissing last played Jan. 15 against the Red Wings, logging no points in 17:59 of ice time.
Analysis: Preissing is stuck in coach Terry Murray's doghouse and there is no telling when he might get out. He does have a hefty contract, so Los Angeles might look to shop him around. However, Preissing just hasn't fit in since joining L.A. last season and has little Fantasy appeal at this time.

News: Kings D Tom Preissing was a healthy scratch for a sixth straight game Monday against the Sharks. He last played Dec. 2 against the Coyotes.

Tom Preissing, D, COL Preissing added to power play

Tom Preissing

Preissing added to power play

News: The Sports Xchange reports a week's worth of tinkering and tweaking paid off Saturday as some power returned to the Kings' power play. In their previous three games, the Kings scored two power-play goals in 16 opportunities, not enough for coach Terry Murray, who has been asking for more offense from his players in all situations. The Kings enjoyed a breakout Saturday as they scored three power-play goals in six chances in a 5-3 victory over St. Louis. Defenseman Tom Preissing, previously a healthy scratch, returned to the lineup because the Kings felt he could make a difference on the power play with his veteran stability and strong shot from the point. Preissing got paired with Drew Doughty on the power play. On Saturday, Doughty had a power-play goal and a power-play assist, and Preissing assisted on Doughty's goal and also scored an even-strength goal of his own.
Analysis: Preissing has now scored in two straight games and is finally starting to look like the offensive savvy player he was back with San Jose and Ottawa. He has six points in nine games and should get plenty of PT along a weak Kings' blue line. Keep your expectations in line, but Preissing could serve as a decent No. 4 Fantasy defenseman.

Preissing scores through traffic

News: Kings D Tom Preissing scored a power-play goal during Tuesday's 6-3 win against the Ducks. Matt Moulson made it 4-2 only 51 seconds into the third period with a short wrist shot over Jean-Sebastien Giguere's glove, and Preissing got the Kings' fifth goal with 9:08 to play, beating Giguere through a screen with a slap shot from the right point while Ryan Getzlaf was off for cross-checking. He also had one assist in the game and finished at even.
Analysis: Now is Preissing's time to shine. Jack Johnson just went on the shelf with a shoulder injury for 2-3 months and Preissing is the Kings' most experienced defenseman. He has three points in his first three games and is logging more than 20 minutes of ice time. He had a bumpy first year with L.A. in 2007-08, but perhaps he can get back to his offensive ways that made him a dynamite Fantasy option in the past. Keep an eye on Preissing because he could develop into a Fantasy viable player.

Preissing nets rare point

News: Kings D Tom Preissing tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 during Thursday's game against the Red Wings. It was his first point in 10 games and just his second point -- both assists -- in 15 contests.
Analysis: Preissing continues to be one of the more disappointing free-agent acquisitions. He is struggling on a mediocre team and it shows in his numbers. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy flier at this time.

Preissing scores two goals

News: The Los Angeles Kings' sputtering offense needed a quick fix. Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar and defenseman Tom Preissing helped provide it, making goalie Jonathan Quick's NHL debut an absolute breeze Thursday against Buffalo. Quick, pressed into service because of injuries to Jason LaBarbera and Jean-Sebastien Aubin, made 15 saves and was staked to a 7-0 lead by the 11:07 mark of the second period. "It was just good timing that I happened to get in tonight," Quick said. "It was a lot easier with the support the team gave me and the way they played in front of me. It was a good game for me to start off my career with. It was a lot of fun."
Analysis: Preissing scored twice during the power plays in the Kings' 8-2 victory. Preissing was a huge free agent catch for the Kings this offseason. Consider him a solid low-end Fantasy option at this time.

News: D Tom Preissing had a minus-2 rating at Dallas Monday and has a minus-3 rating in his last four games.

Preissing scratched for third time

News: The Sports Xchange reports Kings D Tom Preissing was a healthy scratch for the third time this season Saturday against the Stars.
Analysis: Preissing was a huge free agent catch for the Kings this offseason, but they have yet to utilize him effectively. He battled the flu early in the season, but that shouldn't have much a bearing on his on-ice performance nearly a month later. Consider Preissing a low-end Fantasy option at this time.

Preissing plays on Sunday

News: Tom Preissing, who had been under the weather due to the flu, was able to return for Sunday's game against the Red Wings. He was scoreless with a minus-1 rating.
Analysis: The bad news is he was scoreless, but the good news is that he is well. It appears safe to get him back into the active lineup in all leagues for Fantasy Week 3 (Oct. 15-21).

News: The Los Angeles Times reports Tom Preissing was unable to play in Wednesday's game in Dallas, as he is battling flu-like symptoms.
