Pens' Crosby Practices Friday

News: Sidney Crosby (undisclosed) practiced Friday, despite an early report that stated the MVP would be held out of the beginning of training camp, ABC News reports.
Analysis: Not only did Sidney Crosby practice, but he did not wear a red non-contact jersey, and participated in most of the practice. If Crosby is still battling an injury, it appears that it is not serious enough to keep him off the ice. If he is already healthy enough to participate in training camp, expect Crosby to be near 100 percent when the regular season rolls around, though we'll place the caveat that obviously something's been bugging him to some degree - such as a shoulder injury or minor soreness from his wrist issues last season. Or it could be some combo of both, that again, is not enough to keep him off the ice.

Pens' Crosby's Health Not A Sure Thing

News: Sidney Crosby will miss the beginning of training camp with an undisclosed injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby played with an injured wrist toward the end of last season and it's also possible he's suffering from another ailment such as a shoulder injury. It appears he'll be able to play in the regular season, but there's an added measure of risk with Crosby after he decided against summer wrist surgery and the additional mystery injury.

Pens' Crosby Being Held Out Of Camp Early On

News: Sidney Crosby will be held out of the early part of training camp after suffering an injury while preparing for camp.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin is similarly being held out in the early going, so it's more than likely just the case where the organization wants to keep its two stars fresh for the start of the regular season. Sidney Crosby said last week that he was fully recovered from the wrist injury that bothered him during the postseason, so don't let his delay for camp concern you too much.

Pens' Crosby Says Wrist Is 100 Percent Healthy

News: Sidney Crosby declared that he was 100 percent healthy Monday, after he dealt with a nagging wrist injury for much of the postseason, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby entertained the idea of surgery to correct the wrist issue in the summer, but rest and rehab ultimately proved to be a less stressful solution. He's back working out in Pittsburgh in preparation for training camp, and should be poised for another run at the Art Ross Trophy in 2014-15. If Crosby wasn't already being drafted as the top overall fantasy skater, the news that he's fully healthy should do the trick.

Pens' Crosby (Wrist) Progressing Well

News: Sidney Crosby (wrist) is pleased with the the way his wrist has responded to treatment this summer, reports the New York Times. "It's good," said Crosby, who added, "You want to see how things progress throughout the summer once you start skating and get back to that regular routine. You want to see how it reacts, so I'm happy with the way it's gone."
Analysis: Sidney Crosby is working out in Florida with several other NHLers under the direction of trainer Matt Belfry. He likened it to a "hockey school" because there's increased focus on fundamentals and individual skill work. And he hasn't looked out of place among the likes of John Tavares, Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon. Great news for fantasy owners -- he should be on track to compete for both the Art Ross and Hart trophies again this year.

Pens' Crosby (Wrist) Won't Have Surgery

News: After seeking medical advice, it was determined that Sidney Crosby (wrist) will not require surgery.
Analysis: Last week, the team acknowledged Sidney Crosby is dealing with a wrist issue, but after meeting with a medical team, it's been determined that surgery will not be necessary. Crosby will continue to be treated and evaluated regularly leading up to training camp. The Penguins are hoping non-invasive treatment will be sufficient, but if he doesn't show significant progress it's still possible that he could require surgery down the road.

Crosby Dealing With Wrist Issue

News: GM Jim Rutherford acknowledged Wednesday that Crosby is dealing with a right wrist injury, but indicated that it has yet to be determined whether the star center will require a procedure to address the issue, the team's official site reports. "Sidney Crosby has been undergoing treatment on a right wrist injury that he suffered during the season," Rutherford noted Wednesday. "Sid is continuing to get medical advice to determine the best path moving forward, including the possibility of arthroscopic surgery."
Analysis: While there had been reports that Sidney Crosby was slated to have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist in the next few days, Rutherford indicated that a final decision on that front has yet to be made. With that in mind, Rutherford added that the team expects to have a decision on how to handle Crosby's injury "by early next week."

Wrist Procedure On Tap For Penguins' Crosby

News: Sidney Crosby is reportedly slated to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist in the next few days, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: The report notes that the procedure, which is described as not major, will repair a wrist issue that hampered Sidney Crosby during the NHL postseason. Moreover, the report adds that the star center is not expected to miss any time this coming season.

Crosby Silent As Pens' Season Ends

News: Sidney Crosby went minus-1 with just two shots on goal in Tuesday's Game 7 defeat at the hands of the Rangers.
Analysis: The Rangers did quite a job on the NHL's regular-season points leader, holding him off the scoreboard for five of the seven games. He went minus-4 without a single point during the Penguins' four home games in the series and will surely be eviscerated by the Pittsburgh media after another too-early playoff exit.

Crosby Assists In Pens' Victory Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby tallied two assists Wednesday in a 4-2 victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: He now has a goal and nine points in 10 postseason contests. The Rangers' primary plan of attack seems to be contacting Sidney Crosby above the neck, but so far the center has avoided injury. Pittsburgh used Crosby with Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz for long stretches of time in Game 4, with good success.

Penguins' Crosby Breaks 13-Game Scoreless Drought

News: Sidney Crosby snapped a 13-game playoff goal drought Monday as the Penguins beat the Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby broke a scoreless tie in the second period for his first playoff goal since last season. Crosby showed signs of breaking through in Sunday's Game 2 when he took a team-high six shots. It was his 41st career playoff goal.

Pens' Crosby Getting Closer To Scoring?

News: Sidney Crosby was held without a goal for the 13th straight playoff game Sunday.
Analysis: Although Sidney Crosby is pointless in the first two games against the Rangers, he likely played his best game in the postseason Sunday. The center registered a team-high six shots and was credited with two hits. He took 26 faceoffs (winning 13) and showed his best burst in weeks.

Pens' Crosby Chugging Along, But Still Goalless

News: Sidney Crosby picked up a power-play assist Monday against the Jackets -- his sixth helper in the six-game series -- and finished with a plus-1 rating.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was held without a goal for the 11th straight playoff game. He registered 19 shots on goal in the series, but also finished with 17 missed shots -- more than twice as many as any other Penguin. For the second straight game, Crosby missed an empty-net chance. If he's not totally healthy, the Game 6 win will likely give Crosby a couple days extra rest, as the team's first game in Round 2 might not start until Saturday.

Pens' Crosby Picks Up Game 5 Helper

News: Sidney Crosby tallied a power-play assist Saturday, registering six shots on goal and five missed shots while centering a line with Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz.
Analysis: There's a good chance Sidney Crosby is not playing with his full health, as his usual burst and trademark wide stance are both missing. The team has said its star is fine, but it wouldn't be surprising to find out at some point that he's actually playing while hurt. Crosby has five assists in five postseason contests and has yet to score a goal.

Pens' Crosby Searching For Game

News: Pens coach Dan Bylsma is looking for better production from Sidney Crosby, who hasn't scored a playoff goal in nine games (dating back to 2012-13). "We've talked about this question with Evgeni (Malkin) and Sidney scoring goals," Bylsma told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "Do they need to score goals? Do we need more? They're our best players. We need more from our whole team. And we need more from them."
Analysis: Sidney Crosby has tallied four assists and holds a minus-3 rating (second-worst on the team). Bylsma dismissed the notion that his center is injured, but there seems to be something wrong with a player who won the Art Ross Trophy by 17 points in 2013-14.

Pens' Crosby Gets Two Assists

News: Sidney Crosby delivered two assists in Saturday's 4-3, double-OT loss to Columbus.
Analysis: That gives him three helpers this postseason. He's still seeing a lot of Brandon Dubinsky and that means his possible scoring lanes will be narrow. Very narrow.

Pens' Crosby Ready For Playoffs

News: Sidney Crosby scored two goals and seven points in five games against Columbus in 2013-14.
Analysis: The Penguins captain averaged nearly five shots per game against the Blue Jackets (24 shots in five games). Surprisingly, he finished with just one power-play point on a team which went 6-for-17, but the Pens are healthier now than they've been all season long.

Penguins Rest Crosby

News: Based on warmups, Sidney Crosby is not in Sunday's lineup against the Senators.
Analysis: Unless we hear otherwise, we'll operate under the assumption that Penguins are simply resting Sidney Crosby in advance of the upcoming NHL playoffs.

Pens' Crosby Not At Warmups Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby is not taking part in the Penguins' warmup skate Sunday, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: This may or may not be an indication that the Penguins will rest the Art Ross Trophy winner, but it wouldn't be surprising if they did.

No Guarantee Pens' Crosby Plays Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby tallied an assist, finished plus-2 and took five shots on goal Saturday against the Flyers.
Analysis: He skated more than 26 minutes in the overtime loss. As a result, there's a chance Pittsburgh rests him Sunday night in the meaningless, regular-season finale. He leads the NHL in scoring with 104 points (36G, 68A) and will win the second Art Ross Trophy of his career.

Penguins' Crosby Could Return Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby (upper body) skated with both the Penguins' first line and the team's first power-play unit Wednesday morning, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby sat out Sunday's game against the Avs, but his on-ice participation Wednesday morning bodes well for his status for the Penguins' evening tilt against the Red Wings.

Pens' Crosby To Play Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby (upper body) is in the lineup Wednesday night against the Red Wings.
Analysis: After Sidney Crosby missed Sunday's game, there had been some question about his availability for Wednesday, but he skated with the Pens during their morning skate and looks to be good to go. He'll skate alongside Chris Kunitz and Beau Bennett on the Penguins' first line.

Penguins' Crosby Out Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby (upper body) will not play Sunday against the Avs.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby, as well as Chris Kunitz, Olli Maatta and Brooks Orpik will sit Sunday, with the report suggesting that none of the four players' injuries is thought to be long-term in nature.

Pens' Crosby Up To 102 Points After Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby tallied two assists, including one on the power play, in Thursday's 4-2 win against the Jets.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was beaten up physically for the second straight game, but didn't miss a shift. One Dustin Byfuglien hit, in particular, rocked the Pittsburgh superstar, leading to a retaliatory penalty by Crosby. The league's top player seems to be back on his game -- he's riding a six-game point streak (two goals, six assists) -- after a short lull.

Pens' Crosby Reaches Triple Digits On Tuesday

News: Sidney Crosby tallied an assist on linemate Chris Kunitz's goal Tuesday, giving him an NHL-leading 100 points (36G, 64A).
Analysis: The Pens have six regular-season games remaining, giving Sidney Crosby a shot at reaching his second-best point total (109 points). There is a chance Pittsburgh might rest its captain at some point -- Crosby has played in every one of his team's 76 games.
