Pens' Crosby Sets Up Goal In Game 5 Loss

News: Sidney Crosby registered an assist in Friday's series-ending Game 5 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby finished the postseason with two goals and two assists in five games; a fine total, but not nearly enough for a Penguins' attack that struggled all series to generate high-quality scoring opportunities against world-class netminder Henrik Lundqvist. The center will turn 28 in August, and while it might be premature to say that he's on the decline, there's a fair argument to make that he may no longer be the consensus No. 1 fantasy pick heading into the 2015-16 campaign. Though he's seemed to assuage some concern about his ability to stay healthy by missing only seven games over the last two years, Crosby saw his goal total decline to 28 in 2014-15, the lowest output for his career during any season in which he suited up for 60-plus games.

Crosby's Two Goals Lead Pens To Game 2 Victory

News: Sidney Crosby scored two goals in Saturday's Game 2 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: A big performance from the captain, who was held pointless in Thursday's playoff opener. With the series now tied 1-1, Sidney Crosby will need to keep producing if the Penguins hope to get past the Rangers. With 116 points in 97 career playoff games, Crosby is one of the best guys you can have in a playoff pool.

Pens' Crosby Kept Quiet By Blueshirts Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby was held pointless Thursday against the Rangers, finishing with a minus-1 rating and one shot on goal in 19:11 TOI.
Analysis: He collected one goal in a seven-game playoff series against New York in 2013-14 -- his only postseason score in the last twenty contests. The Pens will need more from their captain if they intend to challenge the Rangers in the quarterfinal series. On the bright side, Sidney Crosby won 15 of 20 faceoffs despite registering a 49.9 percent win rate during the regular season.

Pens' Crosby Shoots Blanks In Finale Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby was kept pointless for just the second time in his last nine contests Saturday, falling out of a tie for the Art Ross Trophy.
Analysis: He was in position to win consecutive scoring titles for the first time since Jaromir Jagr won it four years in a row, from 1997-98 to 2000-01. Sidney Crosby finishes third in scoring with 84 points (28G, 56A) behind Jamie Benn (87 points) and John Tavares (86 points), though he still led the league with 1.09 points per game. Crosby scored one goal and three points in a seven-game series against the Rangers -- Pittsburgh's playoff opponent -- last year.

Pens' Crosby Keeping Up Pace

News: Sidney Crosby scored a goal and assisted on a second Tuesday night in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Sens.
Analysis: He endured a rough night physically, taking a stick to the groin that caused him to double over for a good half minute. Sidney Crosby now has 83 points, putting him in a tie with the Isles' John Tavares in the Art Ross Trophy competition. Appropriately enough, he'll face Tavares and the Islanders on Friday. Crosby potted two goals and an assist the last time he saw the boys from Long Island.

Pens' Crosby Scores Third Goal In Four Games

News: Sidney Crosby collected his 27th goal of the season Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby and linemate Patric Hornqvist nearly willed Pittsburgh to a regulation tie, but the team failed to hold a late second-period, two-goal advantage. The star center scored a goal against Philly (the Pens' Sunday opponent) on Wednesday. His team will need its best player to come up big with a playoff bid still teetering unbalanced heading into the final week.

Pens' Crosby Scores In Loss

News: Sidney Crosby netted his team's lone goal -- his 300th career goal -- in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby extended his point streak to four games, and cracked the 80-point threshold for the sixth time in his career. He currently leads the NHL, so the Penguins owe him in no small part for their current position -- one in which they're poised to make another run at the Stanley Cup.

Pens' Crosby Tallies Trio Of Points Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby collected three points -- including a goal and two assists -- in a 3-2 victory over Phoenix on Saturday.
Analysis: The Pens superstar has scored six goals and 20 points in his last 16 games after going through a seven-point, 13-game stretch. He leads the NHL with 78 points (25G, 53A) in 70 games.

Pens' Crosby Smells Art Ross Trophy

News: Sidney Crosby scored one goal and assisted on a second in a 3-1 win over Arizona on Saturday.
Analysis: He now has 16 points (5G, 11A) in his last 13 games despite playing nine of those contests away from Consol Energy Center. The two-point night also gives Sidney Crosby the NHL lead in scoring with 74 points (24G, 50A).

Pens' Crosby Confirmed In Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) will play against the Red Wings on Sunday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: He was tentatively listed on the lineup card (as he was Saturday), but is now confirmed to play Sunday. Sidney Crosby will center his usual line with David Perron and Patric Hornqvist.

Pens' Crosby (Illness) Expected To Play Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) is expected to play Sunday against the Red Wings, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was a late scratch Saturday, and the lineup is considered tentative, but Crosby should be expected to play unless otherwise noted. Assuming he plays, he should be used in lineups as normal.

Pens' Crosby (Illness) A Game-Time Decision Sunday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's contest against the Red Wings, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was a late scratch Saturday due to the illness, and his status for Sunday's contest hinges on his health during warmups, which is likely when his availability will be determined. With Evgeni Malkin already ruled out, Crosby's presence in the lineup would give the offense an added boost offensively, which could be rough without the two stars.

Illness Suspected Reason For Crosby's Absence

News: Coach Mike Johnston said after Saturday's loss to the Bruins that the team decided to make Sidney Crosby a late scratch after the center "wasn't feeling well" following pregame warmups, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Johnston's words would seem to imply that Sidney Crosby is dealing with an illness. Crosby was initially listed in the lineup that Johnston submitted to the official scorers, but the team ended up reversing course at the last minute, substituting Craig Adams in for Crosby. Johnston also said that he thinks Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, who left after the first period of the game with an injury, "might be able to play" Sunday against the Red Wings. However, with Sunday's game being another matinee, the Penguins aren't likely to provide updates on the status of either player prior to warmups.

Pens Make Crosby A Surprise Late Scratch

News: Sidney Crosby, who was a full participant in pregame warmups, was made a late scratch by the Penguins prior to Saturday's tilt with the Bruins, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: There was no indication heading into Saturday that Sidney Crosby was dealing with any kind of injury or illness; in fact, he was listed in the initial lineup the Penguins released about 10 minutes prior to the 1:00 ET puck drop. The late decision to rule him out undoubtedly forced those who slated the center in their daily lineups to eat an immediate loss. Even with the game already underway, it still has yet to be announced what resulted in Crosby's absence. Expect coach Mike Johnston to provide more commentary on the situation after the match concludes. At this time, Crosby should be viewed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Red Wings.

Pens' Crosby Registers Three Points

News: Sidney Crosby scored a power-play goal and handed out two assists Thursday in a 6-4 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby's been, well, Crosby-like over the last few weeks, with a dozen points in his last nine games. He's now hit 70 points on the year; he should clear 80 easily, but a hot finish could see him approach 90.

Crosby Helps Pens To Point Monday

News: Sidney Crosby scored a game-tying, third-period goal (back-handed effort) for his first career goal in seven games against San Jose on Monday.
Analysis: He narrowly missed on a couple golden chances earlier in the tilt. Sidney Crosby's goals-per-game (34.5 percent) represents a career-low. He's tied with teammate Evgeni Malkin with 67 points for the team lead and sits five points behind John Tavares in the Art Ross Trophy race.

Two Points For Pens' Crosby

News: Sidney Crosby scored his 21st goal of the year and added an assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Ducks.
Analysis: Sid's now up to 66 points on the year, just one back of Alex Ovechkin, John Tavares and teammate Evgeni Malkin in the scoring race. We'd hate to call him a disappointment with elite numbers like that, but he's still 38 points back of his total from last year (104) with just 18 games remaining. He also has "just" 178 SOG after throwing 259 pucks on net last season, so he appears set to fall short of several of his totals from 2013-14. Still, it's tough to argue that he isn't the best player in the entire world so look for him to continue to produce at over a point-per-game clip as the Pens chug toward the postseason.

Pens' Crosby Assists Twice In Win

News: Sidney Crosby gathered two power-play assists in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby would find himself on the ice for two even-strength Columbus goals to saddle him with a minus-2 rating for the evening, but the points are probably of more value to fantasy owners. He's now found the score sheet in four straight games, leaving him just one point short of the NHL lead.

Pens' Crosby Hits 20-Goal Mark Wednesday

News: The power-play goal -- Sidney Crosby's eighth of the campaign -- also stood up as the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win against the Capitals on Wednesday.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby has strung together a modest three-game point streak (1G, 3A), giving him 62 points in 57 contests. He entered Wednesday's tilt with the loweet full-season shooting percentage (11.1 percent) of his career and below his career mark of 14.5 percent.

Pens' Crosby Picking Up The Pace

News: Sidney Crosby tallied a pair of assists Sunday -- including one on the power play -- and compiled a plus-2 rating against the Panthers.
Analysis: The two-assist effort was his first in 18 games. Despite the inconsistent production, Sidney Crosby is only three points off the league lead in points with 61 (19G, 42A).

Crosby Regaining Some Power For Pens

News: Sidney Crosby recorded his first power-play assist in 10 games Saturday night against St. Louis.
Analysis: The center also nearly tallied a power-play goal, but an eight-minute review failed to show clear evidence that the puck crossed the goal line. Sidney Crosby had been held pointless in five of his last six contests. After the game, he noted that he jammed his wrist Friday in a fight with Brandon Dubinsky but said it didn't hinder his play against the Blues. Crosby finished the contest with five shots on goal.

Pens' Crosby Fights To A Draw Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby recorded his seventh career fighting major Thursday, squaring off against the Blue Jackets' Brandon Dubinsky.
Analysis: Neither player was injured in the skirmish, but the fight illustrated Sidney Crosby's recent frustration. He failed to point against Columbus and has points in just one of his last six contests. Pittsburgh is 2-5 all-time in games Crosby registers a fighting major.

Pens' Crosby Looking For Paydirt

News: Sidney Crosby was held pointless for the 23rd time in 53 games Tuesday.
Analysis: He was credited with two shots on goal, but passed up numerous good looks during a late third-period power play. Sidney Crosby has scored five goals and 17 points in 11 career games against Columbus, the Pens' opponent at Consol Energy Center on Thursday.

Pens' Crosby Pots Two In Shootout Win

News: Sidney Crosby scored a pair of goals Thursday in a shootout victory over Ottawa.
Analysis: He'd been held off the scoresheet twice in a row after ending his goal-scoring slump, but got back on the horse in this one, though it was a bit of a mixed bag, as he lost 15 of his 23 faceoffs. Still, his scoring should keep picking up as the season intensifies in its final stages.

Pens' Crosby Breaks Out of Goal Scoring Slump

News: Sidney Crosby collected two goals and an assist Friday, leading the Pens to a 4-0 win against the Flames.
Analysis: Prior to Friday, the centerman had scored just six times in 27 games. For only the second time since Nov. 8 the Pens fielded the same line in back-to-back games and the line of Sidney Crosby, David Perron and Chris Kunitz paid dividends. Expect to see the trio skate again Saturday in Vancouver. Crosby now has 17 goals and 56 points in 48 games, two points off the scoring lead.
