Big Tuesday Ahead For Pens' Crosby?

News: Sidney Crosby collected an assist and compiled a plus-2 rating Monday night against Florida.
Analysis: He has yet to play against Tampa Bay -- Pittsburgh's opponent Tuesday -- in 2014-15, but recorded four goals and 10 points in three games against the Lightning last season. Sidney Crosby fantasy owners could use a big game from the center, who trails the Flyers' Jakub Voracek in the Art Ross Trophy race, 44 points to 37.

Pens' Crosby Shoots (And Scores) Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby netted his first post-mumps goal and third in 21 games Saturday against Florida.
Analysis: He could've had more if not for Roberto Luongo (and an empty-net near miss). Sidney Crosby's goal was his first since Nov. 24 and his team-high seven shots represent a season high for the centerman. The Panthers' Dave Bolland slashed Crosby's wrist/hand area, but Crosby said after the game that he was fine. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if the team takes X-rays -- just to make sure.

Crosby Returns Thursday For Pens

News: Sidney Crosby returned Thursday following a three-game absence, finishing pointless with three shots on goal in 20:19 TOI.
Analysis: Pens coach Mike Johnston said after the game that Sidney Crosby probably played a couple minutes too many, given his recent quarantined inactivity. The center went 13-9 in the faceoff circle and nearly converted a breakaway courtesy of an Evgeni Malkin flip-pass, but was stopped by goalie Calvin Pickard's glove save. Crosby now has just two goals (and 19 assists) in his last 20 contests.

Pens' Crosby (Illness) Looks To Be Active Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) is on the ice for pregame warmups and appears to be back in the lineup Thursday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: It was expected that Sidney Crosby would sit out another game after he just returned to the ice Wednesday following his battle with the mumps, but after coming out of Thursday's morning skate looking healthy and ready to go, it sounds like Mike Johnston signed off on his return to the lineup. Though he skated on a line with Evgeni Malkin during the morning session, he'll be slotted next to Nick Spaling and Patrick Hornqvist for Thursday's game.

Penguins' Crosby: Game-Time Call Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was able to participate in Thursday's morning skate, but the Penguins won't make a final call on his status for Thursday's contest until just before game time. Be sure to check for another update on Crosby's status before the first puck drops.

Penguins' Crosby Could Return Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) took the ice for Thursday's morning skate, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The Penguins have not said whether or not Sidney Crosby will return to action Thursday after missing the last three games, but his presence at the team's morning skate gives him a chance to suit up Thursday night. The Penguins figure to update his status at some point prior to game time.

Pens' Crosby (Illness) Skates Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) skated on his own prior to Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby is past the infectious stage in his recovery from the mumps and is now starting the process of regaining conditioning after battling the nasty virus. He hasn't been ruled out as an option for Thursday's game against the Avalanche, but a return to the lineup Saturday against the Panthers looks to be more realistic at this point.

Pens' Crosby Could Return Mid-Week

News: Sidney Crosby is past the infectious stage of his case of the mumps and will return to the team either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Analysis: Although it appeared Wednesday was the day Sidney Crosby figured to be cleared of the infectious phase (according to CDC guidelines), fantasy owners will benefit from the bumped-up schedule. As a result, it looks more and more likely that Crosby might return Thursday rather than Saturday.

Pens' Crosby Past Contagious Stage

Pens' Crosby Out Monday And Possibly Longer

News: Sidney Crosby (mumps) has been ruled out for Monday's home game against the Lightning.
Analysis: Medical guidelines from the CDC suggest that Sidney Crosby should remain in isolation for five days. Presuming that period began Friday evening (he took part in the team's morning skate), then it's possible he could resume activity Wednesday evening. The Pens also play Thursday and Saturday in Week 11, so it stands to reason that Crosby's first game back might not be until Saturday against Florida.

Pens' Crosby Dealing With The Mumps

News: Sidney Crosby is dealing with a case of the mumps, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby has apparently been hit with the virus that has been flying around the NHL this season. The illness can force people to miss different lengths of time, making it unclear how much time he may be out. Through 27 games this season, Sid the Kid has nine goals and 26 assists, which will remain the case until he returns. The discussion surrounding the spreading of the virus figures to reach a fever pitch now that the game's most prominent player has been afflicted.

Pens Still Awaiting Test Results For Crosby

News: Coach Mike Johnston said Saturday that the Penguins are still waiting on the test results for Sidney Crosby's illness, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: After missing Thursday's practice with an illness, Sidney Crosby took part in Friday's optional skate, but did so with obvious swelling on the right side of his face. Though the Penguins don't believe Crosby is dealing with the mumps, the widespread nature of the virus around the league influenced the team;s decision to sit him out of their games Friday and Saturday as a precaution. The Penguins should have more clarity regarding their star's illness before the weekend comes to a close.

Pens' Crosby Out Friday And Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) will sit out both of the Penguins' games Friday and Saturday due to ongoing swelling on the right side of his face.
Analysis: The center is suffering from an undiagnosed condition which could be the mumps virus, an illness that has been a scourge throughout the NHL this season. "There is no indication at this time that [Sidney Crosby has] the mumps, but we are going to hold him out as a precaution," GM Jim Rutherford said. "We'll have additional test results in a few days." The decision comes as a surprise after Crosby was cleared by the medical staff to play Friday, but after second thought, the Penguins didn't want to risk the possibility of Crosby infecting the rest of the team.

Pens' Crosby (Illness) To Play Friday

News: Sidney Crosby (illness) indicated after the Pens' optional morning skate that he would be ready to play Friday against the Flames, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby's participation in the morning skate verifies that the star forward will draw back in after the illness kept him out of Thursday's practice. The report notes that Crosby still had some visible swelling on the right side of his face, but he said it wasn't related to the mumps virus that has been spreading across the NHL. Coach Mike Johnston said that Crosby has been cleared to play by the team's medical staff, so whatever residual swelling he's still experiencing shouldn't impact his effectiveness.

Pens' Crosby Misses Practice With Illness

News: Sidney Crosby missed Thursday's practice due to an illness, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Given the league-wide concern over the spreading of the mumps virus, even the slightest strains of illness should warrant attention. It's more likely than not that Sidney Crosby is just battling a minor flu bug, but the Penguins decided to have him stay at home as a precaution. Though Crosby is still expected to play Friday against the Flames, it's still worthwhile to check back on his status in advance of the team's morning skate.

News: Sidney Crosby didn't take part in Pittsburgh's optional morning skate Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Pens' Crosby Working Well With Hornqvist

News: Sidney Crosby scored his ninth goal of the season and added two assists in a 3-2 OT win over Boston on Monday.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was reunited with Patric Hornqvist and potted a goal less than four minutes into the game with Hornqvist on the ice. The three-point effort snapped a two-game pointless streak for the NHL's biggest star. The Pittsburgh captain benefited from the absence of Zdeno Chara, but given his struggles of late, he'll surely take whatever he can get.
