Pens' Crosby Racks Up Career Achievement Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby became the sixth-fastest player to reach 500 assists Saturday, picking up a pair of power-play helpers in his 544th career contest.
Analysis: He has four goals and nine points (including five on the man advantage) in four games, tying the fastest start in his 10 NHL seasons. Sidney Crosby already has as many goals in four games as he did in the team's final 25 games of 2013-14 (including the playoffs).

Pens' Crosby With Mixed Results Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby scored his fourth goal of the season -- a power-play marker -- Thursday against Dallas.
Analysis: The center, who also hit a post, took an ill-advised tripping penalty with 10 ticks left in regulation -- leading to Tyler Seguin's game-winning goal. Sidney Crosby will look to add to total of seven points in three games Saturday against New York. The captain has 83 points (25G, 58A) in 45 contests versus the Islanders.

Pens' Crosby Red Hot To Start Season

News: Sidney Crosby rang up three power-play points, including a goal and two assists, in Saturday's 5-2 win over Toronto.
Analysis: He now has back-to-back three-point efforts and has prospered in coach Mike Johnston's puck possession system. Sidney Crosby totaled just 16:38 TOI as the Pens cruised to an easy victory. He was named the game's No. 1 star for his efforts. Crosby, who missed the bulk of preseason with an undisclosed injury, has found early success on a line including Chris Kunitz and newcomer Patric Hornqvist (who registered nine shots on goal).

Ho Hum, Three Points For Pens' Crosby On Thursday

News: Sidney Crosby registered three points Thursday, scoring two goals -- including a power-play marker -- and an assist against the Ducks.
Analysis: He led all Pittsburgh forwards in total ice time (20:19), power-play ice time (4:37) and shots (5). Sidney Crosby collected two points in the first eight minutes and never looked back. After the centerman netted just one goal in 13 playoff contests -- mostly due to a wrist injury --last spring, fantasy owners have to be happy that the captain potted two goals Thursday (especially since both were wrist shots).

Pens' Crosby Makes Preseason Debut Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby made his preseason debut Wednesday, skating 18:47 while taking a game-high seven shots in a scoreless effort against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby, who made it through the game unscathed, took just nine shots combined in his final four spring playoff games, making Wednesday's shot total somewhat impressive. Injury speculation will likely dog him until he shows that he can score and be the player he was for the first five months of 2103-14, but Wednesday proved to be an encouraging start. The Penguins are off now until Oct. 9, when they host Anaheim in the regular-season opener.

Pens' Crosby To Make Preseason Debut Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby (personal) will make his preseason debut Wednesday against the Red Wings, Craig Custance of the ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was limited early in camp due to an undisclosed injury, but he's since returned to full health and was away from the team the last few days to the death of a family member. Penguins coach Mike Johnston has been pleased with how Crosby has acclimated himself in camp despite the missed action, so as long as health permits in the regular season, another Hart Trophy could be in sight.

Pens' Crosby Out Monday

News: Sidney Crosby will miss Monday's tilt in Minnesota due to the death of his grandmother.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby practiced Monday and then left for the funeral in Nova Scotia. If he plays Thursday, then that will be his first and only preseason game. Crosby decided against summer wrist surgery and an undisclosed second injury -- possibly a shoulder ailment -- has kept him out of preseason action. There's an element of risk to owning Crosby in 2014-15 which hasn't been highlighted very much.

Penguins' Crosby Will Not Play Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby will not play in Saturday's preseason game due to a death in his family, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was planning to play in Saturday's contest, but he will instead sit out in order to be with his family. It remains to be seen when he will return to the team.

Pens' Crosby Will Play Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby (undisclosed) will play in the Penguins' preseason game Saturday, Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby surprised everyone by practicing earlier this week after reports emerged that he would miss a significant portion of the preseason. Now that he is ready to play in the preseason, the injury should not factor into any fantasy decisions.

Pens' Crosby In Line For Preseason Debut Saturday

News: Coach Mike Johnston said Thursday that he hopes to have Sidney Crosby available for Saturday's preseason game against the Blue Jackets, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was on the ice again for Thursday's practice, so it seems whatever ailment he was dealing with coming into camp has almost fully dissipated. Assuming he's able to participate in a few exhibitions before the start of the regular season, it's probably safe to mark Crosby down for another fantasy-friendly season.

Pens' Crosby Skates Again Tuesday

News: Sidney Crosby was on the ice for Tuesday's practice, Josh Yohe of the Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby also skated Monday, and his presence Tuesday offers further credence to the notion that he's fully healthy.

News: Sidney Crosby (undisclosed) skated Monday morning.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was held out of Saturday's practice for precautionary reasons, but returned to the ice Monday, and appears fully healthy heading into the season.

Pens' Crosby (Undisclosed) Held Out Saturday

News: Sidney Crosby (undisclosed) was held out of practice for precautionary reasons Saturday.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby was held out after reportedly having a good practice Friday. The star doesn't appear to be in danger of missing any regular season time barring a setback or another injury.

Pens' Crosby Practices Friday

News: Sidney Crosby (undisclosed) practiced Friday, despite an early report that stated the MVP would be held out of the beginning of training camp, ABC News reports.
Analysis: Not only did Sidney Crosby practice, but he did not wear a red non-contact jersey, and participated in most of the practice. If Crosby is still battling an injury, it appears that it is not serious enough to keep him off the ice. If he is already healthy enough to participate in training camp, expect Crosby to be near 100 percent when the regular season rolls around, though we'll place the caveat that obviously something's been bugging him to some degree - such as a shoulder injury or minor soreness from his wrist issues last season. Or it could be some combo of both, that again, is not enough to keep him off the ice.

Pens' Crosby's Health Not A Sure Thing

News: Sidney Crosby will miss the beginning of training camp with an undisclosed injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby played with an injured wrist toward the end of last season and it's also possible he's suffering from another ailment such as a shoulder injury. It appears he'll be able to play in the regular season, but there's an added measure of risk with Crosby after he decided against summer wrist surgery and the additional mystery injury.

Pens' Crosby Being Held Out Of Camp Early On

News: Sidney Crosby will be held out of the early part of training camp after suffering an injury while preparing for camp.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin is similarly being held out in the early going, so it's more than likely just the case where the organization wants to keep its two stars fresh for the start of the regular season. Sidney Crosby said last week that he was fully recovered from the wrist injury that bothered him during the postseason, so don't let his delay for camp concern you too much.

Pens' Crosby Says Wrist Is 100 Percent Healthy

News: Sidney Crosby declared that he was 100 percent healthy Monday, after he dealt with a nagging wrist injury for much of the postseason, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby entertained the idea of surgery to correct the wrist issue in the summer, but rest and rehab ultimately proved to be a less stressful solution. He's back working out in Pittsburgh in preparation for training camp, and should be poised for another run at the Art Ross Trophy in 2014-15. If Crosby wasn't already being drafted as the top overall fantasy skater, the news that he's fully healthy should do the trick.

Pens' Crosby (Wrist) Progressing Well

News: Sidney Crosby (wrist) is pleased with the the way his wrist has responded to treatment this summer, reports the New York Times. "It's good," said Crosby, who added, "You want to see how things progress throughout the summer once you start skating and get back to that regular routine. You want to see how it reacts, so I'm happy with the way it's gone."
Analysis: Sidney Crosby is working out in Florida with several other NHLers under the direction of trainer Matt Belfry. He likened it to a "hockey school" because there's increased focus on fundamentals and individual skill work. And he hasn't looked out of place among the likes of John Tavares, Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon. Great news for fantasy owners -- he should be on track to compete for both the Art Ross and Hart trophies again this year.

Pens' Crosby (Wrist) Won't Have Surgery

News: After seeking medical advice, it was determined that Sidney Crosby (wrist) will not require surgery.
Analysis: Last week, the team acknowledged Sidney Crosby is dealing with a wrist issue, but after meeting with a medical team, it's been determined that surgery will not be necessary. Crosby will continue to be treated and evaluated regularly leading up to training camp. The Penguins are hoping non-invasive treatment will be sufficient, but if he doesn't show significant progress it's still possible that he could require surgery down the road.

Crosby Dealing With Wrist Issue

News: GM Jim Rutherford acknowledged Wednesday that Crosby is dealing with a right wrist injury, but indicated that it has yet to be determined whether the star center will require a procedure to address the issue, the team's official site reports. "Sidney Crosby has been undergoing treatment on a right wrist injury that he suffered during the season," Rutherford noted Wednesday. "Sid is continuing to get medical advice to determine the best path moving forward, including the possibility of arthroscopic surgery."
Analysis: While there had been reports that Sidney Crosby was slated to have arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist in the next few days, Rutherford indicated that a final decision on that front has yet to be made. With that in mind, Rutherford added that the team expects to have a decision on how to handle Crosby's injury "by early next week."

Wrist Procedure On Tap For Penguins' Crosby

News: Sidney Crosby is reportedly slated to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right wrist in the next few days, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: The report notes that the procedure, which is described as not major, will repair a wrist issue that hampered Sidney Crosby during the NHL postseason. Moreover, the report adds that the star center is not expected to miss any time this coming season.

Crosby Silent As Pens' Season Ends

News: Sidney Crosby went minus-1 with just two shots on goal in Tuesday's Game 7 defeat at the hands of the Rangers.
Analysis: The Rangers did quite a job on the NHL's regular-season points leader, holding him off the scoreboard for five of the seven games. He went minus-4 without a single point during the Penguins' four home games in the series and will surely be eviscerated by the Pittsburgh media after another too-early playoff exit.

Crosby Assists In Pens' Victory Wednesday

News: Sidney Crosby tallied two assists Wednesday in a 4-2 victory over the Rangers.
Analysis: He now has a goal and nine points in 10 postseason contests. The Rangers' primary plan of attack seems to be contacting Sidney Crosby above the neck, but so far the center has avoided injury. Pittsburgh used Crosby with Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz for long stretches of time in Game 4, with good success.

Penguins' Crosby Breaks 13-Game Scoreless Drought

News: Sidney Crosby snapped a 13-game playoff goal drought Monday as the Penguins beat the Rangers in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Analysis: Sidney Crosby broke a scoreless tie in the second period for his first playoff goal since last season. Crosby showed signs of breaking through in Sunday's Game 2 when he took a team-high six shots. It was his 41st career playoff goal.

Pens' Crosby Getting Closer To Scoring?

News: Sidney Crosby was held without a goal for the 13th straight playoff game Sunday.
Analysis: Although Sidney Crosby is pointless in the first two games against the Rangers, he likely played his best game in the postseason Sunday. The center registered a team-high six shots and was credited with two hits. He took 26 faceoffs (winning 13) and showed his best burst in weeks.
