Franzen On Scoresheet For Wings

News: Johan Franzen assisted on the game's only goal Friday as Detroit beat Boston 1-0 in Game 1 of their Atlantic Division semifinal series.
Analysis: Johan Franzen is one of several experienced playoff performers on Detroit's roster and can be expected to fill a vital role until captain Henrik Zetterberg returns to action. Franzen's regular season was plagued with injury but he still managed 41 points in 54 games.

News: Johan Franzen scored two goals and assisted on two others as the Red Wings beat the Devils 7-4 on Friday.

Red Wings' Franzen Stays Sizzling

News: Johan Franzen continued his post-Olympic surge with a goal and assist in Tuesday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: The Mule has supplied four goals and three assists over three games since returning from the break and a lengthy absence due to a concussion. With the Red Wings at less than optimal health at forward with Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg battling injuries, they'll need Johan Franzen to stay productive if they hope to secure a playoff spot.

Franzen's Hat Trick Carries Wings

News: Johan Franzen put up a huge fantasy line Thursday against Ottawa, scoring a hat trick, going plus-3 and collecting 12 penalty minutes in a 6-1 win.
Analysis: Johan Franzen's lit on fire in the two games since his return to the ice after a monthlong absence due to a concussion and the Olympics. Wednesday and Thursday yielded a total of five points for the veteran winger, and if he can avoid any more blows to the head, he should remain productive the rest of the year.

Wings' Franzen Logs Two Assists In Return

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) assisted on both Red Wings' goals in his return to the ice Wednesday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Playing in just his second game of the Red Wings' last 23 contests, Johan Franzen didn't miss a beat in his return. He set up Todd Bertuzzi's first-period power-play goal and tipped a shot in overtime over to Gustav Nyquist, who potted the game-winner. Most importantly, Franzen said he felt no recurring effects from the concussion after the game.

News: Johan Franzen was activated from injured reserve, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: It's been assumed for a few days now that Johan Franzen would be back in the lineup Wednesday vs. the Canadiens, but it can finally be confirmed now that the roster move was made. Defenseman Ryan Sproul was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids to clear up space for Franzen's return.

Wings' Franzen Will Play Wednesday

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The winger will suit up barring a setback before the game, although he still has to be activated off IR. It seems like a good bet at this point to start him in fantasy leagues Wednesday night at this point.

Wings' Franzen Iffy For Wednesday

News: Coach Mike Babcock said that Johan Franzen (concussion) has been cleared, but a decision regarding the forward's status for Wednesday's game against the Candadiens has yet to be made, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: A decision on that front is slated to be made Wednesday, but either way, it's clear that Johan Franzen's return is on the horizon.

Analysis: Johan Franzen's concussion symptoms returned toward the end of January and he was forced to miss the Olympics as a result. Fortunately, it seems Franzen's condition has improved enough to where he can play, but he'll seek final medical clearance Monday.

Red Wings' Franzen Skates With Team Wednesday

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) skated with the team Wednesday, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Johan Franzen was ruled out of the Olympics after a recurrence of his concussion symptoms in late January, but it appears the extended time off has him feeling better. Though missing the Olympics had to be disappointing for the veteran forward, the Red Wings have reason to be optimistic he'll be available when they resume play next Wednesday against the Canadiens.

Red Wings' Franzen To Miss Olympics

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) will not play for Team Sweden in the upcoming Winter Olympics, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: This was expected after his concussion symptoms resurfaced after his return to the lineup Sunday against the Panthers, resulting in another trip to injured reserve. It's still a bitter pill to take for Johan Franzen, who at 34 years old, may not get another chance to play in the Olympics.

Wings' Franzen Out Again

News: Johan Franzen has been placed back on injured reserve after experiencing concussion symptoms again and will miss Tuesday's game, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: This is not a good sign for the forward, as he returned only for one game and suffered a relapse of concussion symptoms. He may be out for a while, and Joakim Andersson will take his spot in the lineup.

News: Johan Franzen, making his return from a concussion, picked up a helper against the Panthers on Sunday.

Red Wings' Franzen Slated To Return Sunday

News: GM Ken Holland confirmed that Johan Franzen (concussion) plans on playing Sunday vs. the Panthers, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: It will mark Johan Franzen's first game since suffering the concussion in a Dec. 15 contest. The Red Wings already placed Mikael Samuelsson on waivers in anticipation of Franzen's return, and the team figures to activate Franzen from IR once Samuelsson clears. Franzen should provide an immediate boost to the Red Wings on their second line.

Wings' Frazen A Possibility For Sunday's Game

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) could make his return to the lineup Sunday vs. the Panthers, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: After making limited progress for nearly a month after suffering his concussion in mid-December, Johan Franzen has felt no symptoms while skating each of the past three days and looks like he could be ready for a return to action. Coach Mike Babcock said the center would be reevaluated at morning skate, at which point a decision regarding his status for Sunday's contest would likely be made.

Red Wings' Franzen Reports Improvement

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) took part in an optional practice Thursday, stating it was his first "non-foggy" session, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: The fact that Johan Franzen, who has missed the last 15 games with a concussion, didn't experience any headaches or blurred vision during the session would seemingly bode well. However, he'll need to consult with the team's medical staff first before getting cleared for contact duty, and ultimately, a return from IR.

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) will not play in Thursday's game against the Rangers, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Red Wings' Franzen Practices Wednesday

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) took part in Wednesday's practice, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Johan Franzen did not, however, participate in line rushes, a sign that he probably won't be available for Thursday's game vs. the Rangers. If his recovery goes well over the next few days, a return over the weekend might be a possibility.

Wings' Franzen Out Saturday

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) will not play in Saturday's game against the Kings, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Johan Franzen had been targeting a return Saturday, but his limitation at practice Thursday makes it unlikely he will return Sunday either. Check in on his status in case he is cleared over the weekend, but it is likely to expect him to return early next week.

Wings' Franzen Nearing Return From Concussion

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) said he's making progress and hopes to return to the ice Saturday in Los Angeles.
Analysis: Johan Franzen skated at Thursday's practice, but is still limited as he recovers from a concussion. Judging from Wednesday's reports, it seems as though a weekend return is a long shot, but if Franzen shows significant progress, he could return Saturday. On the season, the veteran has 22 points (nine goals) and a plus-7 rating.

Return Not Imminent For Wings' Franzen

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) was a participant in Wednesday's practice, but coach Mike Babcock wasn't particularly bullish on him returning from IR anytime soon, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Although Johan Franzen was on the ice Wednesday, he did so in a very limited capacity, as he continues to be subjected to the league's concussion protocol. Slowly but surely, Franzen figures to incorporate more activities - including full-contact work - into his regimen, but it doesn't look as though he'll be a lineup option for this weekend as previously hoped.

Red Wings' Franzen Cleared To Practice

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) has been cleared to practice, and may return to action as early as Saturday or Sunday, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Johan Franzen has been out since Dec. 15 with concussion symptoms, but finally may be returning to the lineup this weekend. The fact that he can practice is a good sign, as he will likely need some time to get back up to speed after his extended absence. The 34-year-old winger had been productive before going down to injury as he had accumulated 22 points through 30 games, and fantasy owners are hoping he can pick up right where he left off.

Red Wings' Franzen Joins Team For Road Trip

News: Johan Franzen (concussion) is traveling with the Red Wings for their five-game road trip beginning Saturday in Dallas, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings will be hitting five cities over the next two weeks, with the hope that Johan Franzen will hopefully return at some point during the trip. Coach Mike Babcock wouldn't shed any light on Franzen's availability for Saturday's game, but it would seem likely that he needs further practice time.
