Oilers To Sit Fraser On Friday

News: Mark Fraser (groin) will not play Friday.
Analysis: Mark Fraser came away with a goal in Thursday's loss to the Blues, but also seems to have sustained an injury during the course of action. He'll be replaced by Philip Larsen on defense Friday.

Rare Production For Oilers' Fraser

News: Mark Fraser scored his first goal -- just his second point -- of the season and added 14 PIM in Thursday's loss to St. Louis.
Analysis: Almost as importantly, Mark Fraser finished with an even plus-minus despite the Oilers absorbing a 6-2 loss. Still, with just two points in 29 games, he's not a very intriguing fantasy option.

Fraser Traded To Oilers

News: The Maple Leafs traded Mark Fraser to the Oilers on Friday in exchange for Cam Abner and Teemu Hartikainen, TSN's Darren Dreger.
Analysis: Mark Fraser played in just one game for the Maple Leafs after Dec. 17, but the Oilers were willing to bring him in and give him a fresh start. Fraser won't be counted on for a major role, but he will provide some size and added depth on the Oilers' blue line.

Leafs' Fraser: One Game Since Dec. 17

News: Mark Fraser has been a healthy scratch for all of the Leafs' games except for one since Dec. 17.
Analysis: Mark Fraser was a stalwart on the Leafs' D last year and his absence during Game 7 against the Bruins is often noted as a key factor to the team's loss in that game. But he has struggled with chronic injuries this season and his foot speed has been below NHL caliber. Expect him to remain on the sidelines as the Leafs seem to like their current top six.

Leafs' Fraser Scratched Thursday

News: Mark Fraser will not play Thursday against the Coyotes, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser will be replaced in the lineup by John-Michael Liles, as the Leafs get set to host Phoenix. There's no indication that Fraser is injured, so for now it's safest to assume that he's just a healthy scratch.

Leafs' Fraser To Return Saturday

News: Mark Fraser (knee) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday, Davis Alter of SPortsNet 590 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser has been out since injuring his knee during Monday's game against the Sabres. He is expected to suit up for the game against the Capitals with Morgan Rielly heading to the bench.

Leafs' Fraser To Sit Thursday

News: Mark Fraser (knee) will not play Thursday against the Predators, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser was at least able to practice Wednesday, so it seems like he should't miss too many games beyond Thursday's contest. He'll be replaced by Morgan Rielly on Thursday.

Leafs' Fraser Practices

News: Mark Fraser (lower body) practiced Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser left Monday's practice early, and was unable to suit up for Tuesday's game, but was back on the ice with his teammates Wednesday. Fraser has yet to crack the score sheet in seven games for the Leafs, but has spent 20 minutes in the box.

Leafs' Fraser Skates

News: Mark Fraser (knee) skated prior to Wednesday's practice, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser was on the ice with former figure skater, and current Maple Leafs skating consultant, Barb Underhill. He didn't suit up for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, and it looks like he may miss Thursday's game against the Predators too. Keep an eye on his practice status as the week moves on.

Leafs' Fraser Tries To Practice, But Can't

News: Mark Fraser (upper body) was at practice Monday after suffering an injury early in Saturday's win over Buffalo, but left after just five minutes on the ice, reports the Toronto Star.
Analysis: It's unlikely he'll be available Tuesday against the Isles. Keep him benched until you see his name in a box score.

Leafs' Fraser Leaves Saturday's Game

News: Mark Fraser left Saturday's game after just five shifts with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: He had missed most of the season with an MCL sprain, returning just a week ago. It's not known if the injury is related to the previous one or something entirely different.

Leafs' Fraser To Suit Up Friday

News: Mark Fraser (knee) will be activated from injured reserve and play Friday vs. the Devils, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser had been dealing with an MCL strain suffered in the second game of the season and has been on IR ever since. His return will give the Leafs some added depth on the blue line, but he's not likely to receive huge minutes or contribute much offensively.

Leafs' Fraser Healthy

News: Mark Fraser (knee) is healthy enough to play, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser says he's ready to suit up, so now it's up to head coach Randy Carlyle to make a lineup decision. There's a logjam on the Toronto blue line currently, so it's not clear when Fraser will suit up next, even though he's healthy.

Leafs' Fraser Now Expected Back Next Week

News: Mark Fraser (knee) is now expected to return to action next Friday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: There was some thought that Mark Fraser could make his return Saturday against the Canucks, but with six days off until the team's next game Friday vs. the Devils, it makes more sense for the Leafs to wait to make a roster move. Fraser played in just two games before suffering the knee injury.

Leafs' Fraser Could Return Saturday

News: Mark Fraser (knee) could return Saturday against the Canucks, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser has missed the last 12 games with a left knee injury but could be set to return soon after skating with the team for nearly a week. The Leafs didn't expect to have him back until mid-November, so a potential return Saturday would be a better scenario than the Leafs probably could have imagined.

Leafs' Fraser Skates Saturday

News: Mark Fraser (knee) was on the ice and skating with the team again Saturday, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser skated for the first time Thursday, so it was encouraging to see him back on the ice again so quickly. He is targeting a mid-November return.

Leafs' Fraser Resumes Skating

News: Mark Fraser (knee) skated before Thursday's practice with the Leafs' strength and conditioning coach, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser hadn't taken part in any on-ice activity prior to Thursday's skate session and remains far off from a return. He's expected to travel with the team on their upcoming road trip out west beginning next week, but can probably be safely ruled out.

Leafs' Fraser Making Slow Progress

News: Mark Fraser (knee) may not be ready for the start of the team's upcoming road trip as previously expected, THL.ca reports.
Analysis: Both Mark Fraser and teammate Nik Kulemin are believed to be further away than the team once thought, but it's expected that both players will be on the ice with their teammates in a practice setting soon, which should shed more light on their progress.

Leafs' Fraser Set To Begin Skating Soon

News: Mark Fraser (knee) is set to begin skating soon, the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser was previously placed on long-term injured reserve earlier this month after sustaining a knee injury. He'll be a welcome addition to the Leafs' blue line once he's deemed ready to return.

Leafs' Fraser Expected To Miss 3-4 Weeks

News: Mark Fraser (knee) is expected to miss three-to-four weeks, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser was subsequently moved to long-term injured reserve after suffering the injury in Wednesday's win over the Flyers. Morgan Rielly is expected to pick up most of his playing time as a member of the Leafs' third defensive pairing.

Leafs Place Fraser On IR

News: Mark Fraser (knee) was placed on IR on Thursday, Jonas Siegel of TSN reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser hurt his knee Wednesday against the Flyers, and was seen walking with crutches after the game. The move to IR guarantees Fraser will be ineligible for at least seven days, so the earliest he can play again would be October 10 against the Predators. The open spot in the lineup will most likely be filled by former first-round pick Morgan Rielly so he can make his NHL debut.

Leafs' Fraser Suffers Knee Injury In Wednesday's Win

News: Mark Fraser suffered a knee injury during Wednesday's win over the Flyers, the Toronto Star's Damien Cox reports.
Analysis: Mark Fraser appeared to suffer the injury in the third period after he was nailed by the Flyers' Jay Rosehill. He was seen navigating around the locker room with crutches after the game, which could keep him out of Saturday's game and open the door for Morgan Rielly to make his NHL debut.

Leafs, Fraser Avoid Arbitration

News: Mark Fraser and the Maple Leafs avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract worth $1.275 million on Tuesday, reports the Toronto Star.
Analysis: The two sides had been more than a million apart, so the deal lies toward the middle of the two sides. Mark Fraser will hope to continue to build on his strong play in 2012-12 and earn a bigger, multi-year deal next offseason.

Fraser And Leafs Far Apart On Contract

News: Mark Fraser and the Maple Leafs are more than $1 million apart on a contract and they appear headed to their scheduled arbitration date on Tuesday, reports TSN.ca. Toronto has offered him $855,000 per season while the restricted free agent has countered with a request for $2 million per year.
Analysis: He's coming off a season where he tallied just eight assists, but he was a shutdown force, clearing the crease of the opposition and coming out on the plus-18 side of the ledger. It will be interesting to see which side the arbitrator leans toward, as 2012-13 was Mark Fraser's first real dominant season in the NHL.

Leafs' Fraser Out Friday

News: Mark Fraser is out "for a while" following Wednesday's surgery to repair a fracture in his "cranial area," James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: This does not come as a surprise considering this injury required surgery and appeared to be serious. John-Michael Liles will fill in during Mark Fraser's absence. A timetable has not been provided for his return.
