Nilsson kept out of season finale

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson (undisclosed) did not return to the lineup on Sunday against the Ducks. He missed the final four games of the season.
Analysis: Nilsson's season comes to a close as he produced 11 goals, 27 points and a minus-17 rating in 60 games. He has gotten progressively worse the last few seasons, but with one year left on his contract, Edmonton might have to stick it out with Nilsson in 2010-11. Luckily for Fantasy owners, you can probably leave him on waivers until he gets his act together.

Nilsson not back vs. Kings

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson (undisclosed) missed a second straight game Saturday against the Kings.
Analysis: Nilsson and his 27 points and a minus-17 aren't exactly being missed in Fantasy lineups at the moment. He remains at best a low-end option in deeper leagues.

Nilsson sits out Wednesday

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson did not play in Wednesday's game against the Avalanche due to an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Nilsson has 27 points and a minus-17 this season for the brutal Oilers. He continues to have minimal Fantasy value in just the deepest of leagues.

Nilsson out of lineup with injury

News: CHED radio out of Edmonton reports that Oilers LW Robert Nilsson will miss Wednesday's game vs. Colorado with an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Nilsson has 27 points and a minus-17 this season for the brutal Oilers. He continues to have minimal Fantasy value in just the deepest of leagues.

Nilsson continues to light lamp

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson scored in a second straight game Tuesday as Edmonton edged the Canucks. Nilsson now has five of his 11 goals this season in March.
Analysis: Nilsson put up 41 points in his first season with the Oilers back in 2007-08, but his offensive game has slipped a little since then. He remains a little too inconsistent to rely on in Fantasy play right now, but a strong finish could improve his sleeper value heading into next season.

Nilsson has three goals since break

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson scored a goal and tallied an assist during Monday's game against the Blue Jackets. Nilsson tied the game at 1 just under two minutes into the second period as he beat Steve Mason with a wrister. Nilsson has nine goals on the season and three scores since the Olympic break.
Analysis: With nothing much to play for down the stretch, the Oilers are giving extra playing time to some of their younger talent trying to assess their future standing. Even with a strong finish we aren't sure much with save Nilsson, who has really been disappointing the last two seasons. Nilsson is too unreliable to trust in Fantasy.

Nilsson back in press box

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers LW Robert Nilsson, who never seems to stray very far from the press box, is back in it as he once again is a healthy scratch. He's shown flashes of elite level skill but can't overcome his consistency problems.
Analysis: There was this stretch of games in early December that Nilsson was playing lights out and finally seemed to get the message from the coaching staff that his play needed to improve. Unfortunately, he couldn't sustain. Nilsson is too unreliable to trust in Fantasy.

Nilsson nets a pair of helpers

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson tallied a pair of assists during Friday's game against the Stars. He has three assists in his last six games, however, Nilsson hasn't scored in eight games.
Analysis: Nilsson really showed some life in the first few weeks of December, but his offensive game has since been in the tank since late December. Nilsson is still getting regular power-play minutes and his recent slump hasn't been all his fault. Edmonton is mired in a pretty nasty losing funk. Still, Nilsson has low-end Fantasy appeal because he isn't a trustworthy option yet.

Nilsson has pair of power-play scores

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson scored twice during Thursday's game against the Predators. Edmonton started strong, striking first on the power play three minutes when Nilsson chipped a shot off of the goalie Pekka Rinne's arm. Edmonton pulled within within one with five minutes remaining in the second when Nilsson scored his second power-play goal, stealing the puck from Dan Hamhuis at the blue line and then making a diving deke to beat Dan Ellis.
Analysis: Nilsson has three goals and five assists in his last eight games. This is his best stretch of hockey in a long time. Nilsson was basically hanging on by a thread earlier this season and realized he had to pick up the pace when he returned from a concussion in late November or fear getting cut. Nilsson has responded in a big way. If Nilssson keeps this up, he will develop into a nice Fantasy option. For now, he has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Nilsson scores in return Thursday

News: Oilers LW Robert Nilsson returned to the lineup on Thursday against the Red Wings after missing 10 games with a concussion. He contributed a goal and plus-2 rating in 10:19 of ice time. Nilsson made it 2-0 with 2:51 left in the first on a flashy play in which he put the puck between defenseman Jonathan Ericsson's legs at the bottom of the left circle, made a move on Jimmy Howard and slid a forehand shot into the net for his second goal.
Analysis: Nilsson now has a point in each of his last two games, but still has only two goals in 13 contests this season. Coach Pat Quinn is trying to get the struggling forward back on track, but Nilsson still has low-end Fantasy appeal until further notice.

Stone, Nilsson cleared to return

News: CHED (630 AM) out of Edmonton reports that Oilers C Ryan Stone (knee) and Robert Nilsson (concussion) are both ready to return to the lineup.
Analysis: The Oilers only play twice in Fantasy Week 9 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6), so you won't want to worry about using either of these guys in Head-to-head leagues for the scoring period. Both are just marginal Fantasy options when healthy, anyway.

Nilsson out with a concussion

News: Oilers coach Pat Quinn said Thursday that LW Robert Nilsson is out with a concussion.
Analysis: Nilsson has four points this season and an abysmal minus-12 rating. He was also benched last week. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats until things turn around.

Nilsson understands benching

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers forward Robert Nilsson, benched for the entire third period of Edmonton's 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Nov. 5, approached head coach Pat Quinn after practice Friday for some advice. "He told me to think about the positive stuff and leave the negative behind," Nilsson said. "He's been around a long time, you trust him and you have a lot of respect."
Analysis: Nilsson knows he has to be a lot better. "I knew why he did it," Nilsson said of the benching. "I'm not mad about it. If I was on the top of my game I wouldn't be sitting there. If I feel I'm playing well then of course I'm angry and frustrated. Last night I know I had a (bad) game, so I'm not surprised." The 24-year-old center has a team-worst minus-12 mark and hasn't been a very reliable offensive contributor since he posted 41 points in 2007-08. Nilsson has a long way to go before getting back in our good graces. It's safe to keep him off Fantasy rosters.

Nilsson gets out of press box

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers RW Robert Nilsson, who lost his starting job in training camp, caught a break in his attempt to win it back. Just two games into the season an injury has opened the door for him. Ethan Moreau is out with an ankle infection, so Nilsson draws in from the press box. He had an assist and plus-1 rating in 10:02 of ice time.
Analysis: The Oilers had a lot of high hopes for Nilsson when they acquired him in the Ryan Smyth trade a few years back. Unfortunately, they have been faced with a lot of disappointment. Nilsson has little Fantasy appeal until he becomes a regular contributor.

Oilers keep Nilsson in press box

News: Sportsnet.ca reports Oilers C Robert Nilsson was a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Predators. It was the second straight game he was scratched from the lineup.
Analysis: Nilsson is not set to become a free agent and hasn't been mentioned as trade bait, but perhaps Edmonton is finally upset with his poor performance. He doesn't have a point in his last seven games and has scored just seven times in 51 games. Nilsson has potential, but until his numbers start to increase, he has low-end Fantasy appeal.

Nilsson rededicates himself to hockey

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers LW Robert Nilsson, who has 11 points in his last 14 games, credits a newfound dedication and commitment for his recent roll. "I'm here to produce and I haven't produced like I should," said the 24-year-old winger. "Sometimes you just have to say to yourself, 'That's enough.' That's what I did. And since then I've been feeling good. I have a step more in me and hopefully I can bring that out the last 30 games."
Analysis: It's unfortunate that a hockey player has to rededicate himself to the game he is supposed to love, but at least Nilsson has recognized the problem before he was run out of the NHL. His scoring is a bit down, but Nilsson is still finding ways to get on the stat sheet via assists. Consider him a low-end Fantasy flier for deeper leagues.

Nilsson playing well post-concussion

News: Oilers C Robert Nilsson tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 during Sunday's game against the Wild. He has an assist in three straight games and seven points (one goal) in eight games since returning from a concussion.
Analysis: It seems the concussion has knocked some sense into Nilsson and has awoken him from an offensive slumber. He is still getting top-six time for Edmonton, but before we get overly excited, we need to see long-term success from Nilsson before recommending him in Fantasy play.

Nilsson getting top-line looks

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers LW Robert Nilsson, a hot and cold player with tremendous talent (when he decides to combine it with some desire), has four points in four games since returning from a concussion. He took a lot of shifts on the first line Sunday against the Predators, replacing Dustin Penner, and could start there Tuesday against Chicago.
Analysis: It seems the concussion has knocked some sense into Nilsson and has awoken him from an offensive slumber. The fact he could get time with Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky could only help in his development. But before we get overly excited, we need to see long-term success from Nilsson before recommending him in Fantasy play.

Nilsson has rare two-pointer

News: Oilers C Robert Nilsson had just his second two-point game of the season when he scored and assisted in Tuesday's loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: After putting up 41 points last season, Nilsson has just 15 this campaign. He remains not worth concerning yourself about in any Fantasy league.

Nilsson back from concussion

News: One game after Ales Hemsky returned to the lineup following a concussion, the Oilers had another concussed forward back to play against Columbus Tuesday as Robert Nilsson came back after a five game absence. He didn't have a point in 16:03 of ice time and finished at minus-1.
Analysis: Hemsky had two goals in his first game back and two more Tuesday, but Nilsson couldn't match the feat. He has shown very little scoring presence in 2008-09 and has been one of the more disappointing Oilers skaters. Nilsson has little Fantasy appeal at this time.

Nilsson put on IR with concussion

News: The Sports Xchange reports Oilers LW Robert Nilsson was placed on injured reserve Sunday as he recovers from a Jan. 9 concussion. Nilsson has missed the last five games.
Analysis: When healthy, Nilsson does get a significant amount of playing time on the Oilers' top lines. However, he does little in terms of offense and is not usually a recommended option. Now that he's on the IR, keep him on waivers or on the bench.

Nilsson not back vs. Avs

News: Oilers C Robert Nilsson (undisclosed) did not return to the lineup Friday against the Avalanche. He has missed the last four games and remains questionable heading into Sunday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Nilsson has hardly made an offensive impact in 2008-09 after having a pretty solid 41-point campaign in 2007-08. Nilsson gets a lot of top-six minutes when healthy, but has limited Fantasy appeal.

R. Nilsson not well enough to play

News: The Edmonton Sun reports that Oilers C Robert Nilsson, who slammed hard into the end boards in the third period of Friday's game with San Jose, sat out Sunday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: Nilsson has just 13 points on the season and barely has any Fantasy value in seasonal leagues when healthy. The former first-rounder does have some keeper value, though.
