Blue Jackets' McElhinney Takes Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney was beaten by the Lightning on Saturday, giving up three goals on 34 shots in a 3-1 loss.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney has now surrendered three goals in each of his last three starts, managing a single win against Washington. Columbus has had a rotten go of it this season, with a plethora of injuries to key players like Brandon Dubinsky, Nathan Horton and -- on multiple occasions -- workhorse netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, who is currently sidelined for another three-to-five weeks with a groin ailment. McElhinney has never appeared in more than 28 games in a season during his seven-year NHL career, so it'll be interesting to see how he holds up if coach Todd Richards keeps turning to him in Bobrovsky's absence. As of now, he's carrying a 5-8-1 record, a 3.00 GAA and a .907 save percentage through 18 appearances.

Jackets Expected To Go With McElhinney On Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney is expected to draw the start in goal Saturday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Verification that Curtis McElhinney will man the crease should come forth during pregame warmups. McElhinney has backstopped the last two games for the Jackets in place of the injured Sergei Bobrovsky, surrendering three goals apiece in a win over the Capitals and a loss to the Panthers. The goalie is actually 4-1-0 over his last five appearances, but it will be tough to ask him to come away with a win Saturday against one of the Eastern Conference's top teams.

McElhinney Takes Loss For Jackets

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 31 shots in Thursday's loss to Florida.
Analysis: A late-third-period tally by Sean Bergenheim untied a 2-2 game and sent the Jackets to the loss column. But Curtis McElhinney played well enough overall to named the game's third star, so at least he can hang his hat on that.

Jackets' McElhinney Draws Start Thursday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney didn't perform particularly well in his first outing following Sergei Bobrovsky's placement on IR due to a groin injury, stopping just 25 of 28 shots in Tuesday's win over the Capitals. While the win was nice, fantasy owners shouldn't count on stellar numbers from McElhinney during his run as the Jackets' primary netminder. He fared poorly when Bobrovsky missed most of December due to a groin issue, and owns a meager 2.98 GAA and .906 save percentage over 16 outings on the season.

Jackets' McElhinney Unimpressive In Win

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 28 shots, but came away with the win Tuesday against visiting Washington.
Analysis: Not a terribly impressive outing for Curtis McElhinney, but he did win, which will help him to a small head start in his campaign to draw the majority of the action while Sergei Bobrovsky's groin ailment holds him out of action over the next month or so.

McElhinney Gets Start For Columbus

News: Curtis McElhinney is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Capitals, Jeff Rimer of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky now on injured reserve and set to miss four-to-six weeks, Curtis McElhinney is now on track to see expanded work. Anton Forsberg was added to the Columbus netminding mix Monday, and he could steal starts from McElhinney if the veteran can't get the job done.

Jackets' McElhinney Stops 16 In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney made 16 saves on 17 shots in Wednesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney came on in relief of starter Sergei Bobrovsky midway through the second period after Bobrovsky suffered an undisclosed injury. McElhinney was not saddled with the loss since Bobrovsky allowed the eventual game winner before leaving.

Jackets' McElhinney: 34 Saves In Win Over Bruins

News: McEhinney was sparkling Saturday, making 34 saves in a 3-1 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: He was instrumental in the win, which halted the Jackets' four-game losing skid. He's actually been a decent roll of late -- he has won all three of his last start starts, two of which have come over Boston. And he's allowed just six goals in those three. His overall record might seem queasy, but smart owners will weigh his recent work in daily formats.

Jackets Go With McElhinney On Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the net for Saturday's game against the Bruins.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will relieve No. 1 goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who lost his fourth straight game Friday against the Rangers. Despite the losing streak, Bobrovsky's job security is about as strong as possible, so even if McElhinney shines Saturday, don't expect much to come of it. As it is, McElhinney has been subpar even by backup goalie standards this season, going 3-6-1 with a 3.22 GAA and .899 save percentage over his 13 appearances.

Jackets' McElhinney Picks Up Win

News: Curtis McElhinney recorded 26 saves on 29 shots in Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney picked up his third win of the season to improve his record to 3-6-1. His other numbers are still not particularly impressive as the 31-year-old has a 3.22 GAA and .899 save percentage, and will continue to see limited playing time backing up Sergei Bobrovsky.

Jackets' McElhinney To Start Sunday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start against the Avalanche on Sunday, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will get the start for the back end of back-to-back games Sunday. He came in to relieve Sergei Bobrovsky in the third period of Saturday's blowout loss to the Coyotes, but faced just three shots the remainder of the game. He will look for a solid 60 minutes Sunday against the Avanlache, who average 2.45 goals per game on the season.

Jackets' McElhinney Stops Three In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped all three shots he faced in relief of Sergei Bobrovsky in the third period of Saturday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: The Coyotes dialed back their attack a bit after racing out to a 6-2 lead over Bobrovsky, so don't make much of Curtis McElhinney's showing in relief. The Blue Jackets will play the second half of a back-to-back set Sunday in Colorado, and after a rotten outing from Bobrovsky, coach Todd Richards may be inclined to turn to McElhinney for the starting nod.

Jackets' McElhinney Beats Bruins

News: Curtis McElhinney allowed two goals on 28 shots in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky out sick, Curtis McElhinney filled in admirably on short notice, playing far better than expected given his struggles earlier this season. Bobrovsky figures to be back in net Wednesday against the Wild assuming he feels healthy enough.

Jackets' McElhinney To Get Rare Start Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney will man the net Saturday against the Bruins, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney was informed of the surprise start prior to the team's morning skate, when it was then revealed that Sergei Bobrovsky would be unavailable due to a stomach bug. The expectation is Bobrovsky will be available for the Jackets' next game Wednesday versus the Wild, making McElhinney a rather poor speculative pickup in weekly leagues that start multiple netminders. McElhinney, who was horrendous in his previous run as the team's starter in the first half of November when Bobrovsky was out with a fractured finger, owns an ugly 1-6-1 record, 3.49 GAA and .895 save percentage on the season. Even in daily formats for Saturday's slate of games, McElhinney looks like one of the weaker starting goalie options on the board.

Jackets' McElhinney: 40 Saves In Loss

News: Columbus' Curtis McElhinney made 40 saves in a losing effort Saturday. Nashville won the game 2-1.
Analysis: He held off the Preds for most of the game; the winning goal wasn't scored until the 17:48 mark of the third. He doesn't get many starts, so his fantasy value is truly limited. But it was an outstanding effort.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Gets Rare Start Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start Saturday against the Predators.
Analysis: The Predators will give regular goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky the night off, so Curtis McElhinney will start for the first time since Nov. 14. He will take on a Predators team that is tied for the league lead with just 2.00 goals allowed per game.

Jackets' McElhinney Stymies Flyers For First Win

News: Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves on 27 shots for his first win of the season Friday against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney may have earned his first win, but he's about to take a seat on the bench, as Sergei Bobrovsky (finger) has been activated off injured reserve and could resume his starting duties as early as Saturday. McElhinney has struggled with Bobrovky injured, posting a 1-5-1 record to go with a .887 save percentage and 3.65 GAA. Once Bobrovsky officially returns, McElhinney loses the majority of his fantasy value, as the 31-year-old has done nothing to show he can be trusted in any league.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney To Start Again Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney is set to make another start Friday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Though Sergei Bobrovsky will travel with the Blue Jackets to Philadelphia, it doesn't appear that he's comfortable enough with how his glove is fitting on his broken finger to return to the net just yet. As a result, Curtis McElhinney's run as the Blue Jackets' No. 1 option in goal figures to be extended for yet another game, though he's hardly deserved that reward. McElhinney is 0-5-1 with a 3.76 GAA and .887 save percentage over seven outings this season, as the Blue Jackets have failed to win a single game this season when Bobrovsky hasn't played.

McElhinney Takes Another Loss For Jackets

News: Curtis McElhinney took yet another loss Tuesday, giving up four goals on 32 shots in Washington.
Analysis: He's now 0-5-1 in seven games (six starts) with the Jackets this year, which has the entire city of Columbus waiting with bated breath for the return of Sergei Bobrovsky (finger), which is slated for next week.

Columbus Returns Net To McElhinney

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the cage Tuesday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney played well in relief of Anton Forsberg on Saturday against the Lightning, but still saw his record drop to 0-5-1 in the 7-4 defeat. The Blue Jackets have yet to record a victory since Sergei Bobrovsky hit injured reserve with a broken finger, and with no definitive timetable for the netminder's return, McElhinney will be the team's top option by default.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Adequate In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney relieved Anton Forsberg for the final two periods Saturday against the Lightning, ultimately taking the loss in the 7-4 defeat.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney entered the game with the Jackets facing a 4-0 deficit, so he was probably unfairly credited with the loss when the second-period tally he allowed to Ryan Callahan ended up going down as the nominal game-winner in a contest that wasn't as close as even the three-goal margin would indicate. On the whole, McElhinney generally performed competently in stopping 20 of 22 shots, but the fact that it qualified as a good outing for him speaks volumes about how putrid he's played this season. The 31-year-old is 0-4-1 with a 3.70 GAA and .889 save percentage, but because of the Jackets' lack of quality organizational goalie depth, he'll remain the primary option in the net until Sergei Bobrovsky (broken finger) is ready to return from IR.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Continues To Struggle

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 35 shots in Friday's overtime loss to Carolina.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky (finger) sidelined, the team has had no choice but to rely on Curtis McElhinney in the cage. Unfortunately, it just hasn't worked out, as McElhinney is now 0-3-1 with a .866 save percentage and 3.78 GAA on the season. Bobrovksy can't return soon enough, as Columbus has now dropped seven straight games.

Jackets To Start McElhinney On Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the crease Friday against the Hurricanes, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets are just trying to tread water in goal until Sergei Bobrovsky returns from a broken finger, but Curtis McElhinney figures to be the team's default option in goal until that time comes. McElhinney has been dreadful in four outings with a 4.08 GAA and .877 save percentage, making it difficult to trust him even against weak teams like the Hurricanes.

Jackets' McElhinney Stops 33 In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney took his third straight loss Tuesday against Carolina, surrendering three goals on 36 shots.
Analysis: Despite the unfavorable outcome, this represents Curtis McElhinney's finest start of the year. Sergei Bobrovsky can't return soon enough, as neither McElhinney nor Anton Forsberg has been able to win a single game in his absence.

Jackets' McElhinney Starting Tuesday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start in net Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will look to break out of his slump Tuesday after losing both of his last two starts and allowing nine goals in the process.
