Blue Jackets Place McElhinney On Injured Reserve

News: The Blue Jackets placed Curtis McElhinney on injured reserve Sunday with an upper body injury.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will be out at least another week with a head injury suffered in Saturday's game, so the Blue Jackets placed him on injured reserve to open up a roster spot. Anton Forseberg was called up on an emergency basis from AHL Springfield to take McElhinney's place on the roster.

Jackets' McElhinney May Have Concussion

News: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards didn't dismiss the suggestion that Curtis McElhinney suffered a head injury or concussion during Saturday's game, the Columbus Dispatch reports. "I'm careful about saying that right now, but obviously he got hit," Richards said. "He was bent over, and Nicky [Foligno] comes sliding into him full-speed."
Analysis: Should Curtis McElhinney be sidelined for any length of time, Anton Forsberg would likely be recalled from AHL Springfield to back up Sergei Bobrovsky.

Jackets' McElhinney Leaves With Injury

News: Curtis McElhinney left Saturday's game against Ottawa with an undisclosed injury, the Columbus Dispatch's Shawn Mitchell reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney was hurt on a strange play in which Nick Foligno accidentally crashed his own goal and left McElhinney down on the ice on all fours. He was down for quite a while before eventually skating off on his own. The extent of the injury is unknown, but Sergei Bobrovksy will finish this one out for Columbus. McElhinney allowed two goals (including one on the play he was injured) on 16 shots before departing.

Jackets Plan To Start McElhinney On Saturday

News: Coach Todd Richards said the Blue Jackets plan to use Curtis McElhinney in the net Saturday against the Senators, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Assuming Sergei Bobrovsky isn't pulled early from his scheduled start Friday, Curtis McElhinney will see his first action of the season against his former team in Ottawa. The 31-year-old backup was merely adequate in 28 games with the Jackets last season, accumulating a 2.70 GAA and .909 save percentage. He figures to see an extremely light workload so long as Bobrovsky remains healthy.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney To Get Start Soon

News: Curtis McElhinney will likely start either Friday or Saturday, the The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney has yet to play this season, but it appears he will make his debut and give starter Sergei Bobrovsky a rest sometime this weekend.

Jackets' McElhinney Notches Preseason Shutout

News: Curtis McElhinney made 36 saves Monday as the Blue Jackets downed the Predators 2-0 in preseason action.
Analysis: He won't see much action behind Sergei Bobrovsky, but Curtis McElhinney looks ready for the regular season to begin.

Blue Jackets Re-Sign McElhinney

News: The Blue Jackets have signed Curtis McElhinney to a one-year contract extension.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney, who recorded a 10-11-1 record with a 2.78 GAA, .909 save percentage and two shutouts in 28 games for the Blue Jackets this past season, is thus in line to reprise his role as backup to Sergei Bobrovsky in 2014-15.

McElhinney, Jackets Fall To Bolts

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped 19 of 22 shots in Friday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: With the Blue Jackets working to secure a playoff spot over the last couple of weeks, Curtis McElhinney has collected dust on the bench most nights. He seemed understandably rusty in his first start since Mar. 29, and might not get a chance at redemption the rest of the way. Top netminder Sergei Bobrovsky is scheduled to start the team's season finale Saturday against the Panthers.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney To Start Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be between the pipes for Friday's game against the Lightning, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Columbus is still battling for playoff positioning, but head coach Todd Richards wanted to give regular goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky a night off with the Blue Jackets playing back-to-back nights and the playoffs coming up. Curtis McElhinney will take on a Lightning team that sits eighth in the league with 2.86 goals per game.

Jackets Stick With McElhinney On Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney will receive the start Saturday against the Hurricanes, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky (illness) feeling well enough to serve as the backup goalie, it appears Curtis McElhinney's temporary run as the starter will come to a halt after Saturday. McElhinney did well to keep the Blue Jackets in the game in Friday's loss to the Penguins, stopping 29 of 31 shots.

Jackets' McElhinney: 25 Saves In OT Win

News: Curtis McElhinney made 25 saves in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over Carolina.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky's illness is gone, so Curtis McElhinney will be back to the bench. But he did well to keep his team in the playoff hunt.

McElhinney, Jackets Fall

News: Curtis McElhinney allowed two goals on 31 shots in Friday's 2-1 loss to Pittsburgh, in just his fourth since late January.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney was pressed into action Friday due to starter Sergei Bobrovsky battling the flu. If goalie Bob is out again on Saturday, McElhinney could get the nod against Carolina as the Jackets fight to stay in the playoff race.

Jackets' McElhinney Draws Friday Start

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in net against the Penguins on Friday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky is still battling the flu, so Curtis McElhinney will draw his 19th start of the season. McElhinney entered Tuesday's game in the second period and picked up the win, making 22 saves on 23 shots. Bobrovsky did take the ice for Friday's optional skate, and will likely return soon, so McElhinney is not long for the starting job.

Columbus' McElhinney Picks Up Win In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney entered the game in the second period Tuesday against the Red Wings, picking up the win after stopping 22 of 23 shot attempts.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky battling the flu throughout the first period, coach Todd Richards opted to make a goalie change at the start of the second, and Curtis McElhinney proved up to the task. Despite not seeing much work of late behind Bobrovsky, he held serve for most of the night to give the Blue Jackets an important win over a fellow contender for one of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference. Assuming Bobrovsky has sufficiently recovered from the illness heading into Friday's tilt with the Penguins, McElhinney should resume backup duty.

Blue Jackets Turn To McElhinney On Monday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start against the Stars on Monday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: With the team playing again on Tuesday, Curtis McElhinney will draw Monday's start, with Sergei Bobrovsky presumably in line to get the nod Tuesday against the Red Wings.

McElhinney Can't Stop Jackets' Slide

News: Curtis McElhinney allowed three goals on 28 shots in Tuesday's loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: The Jackets had dropped their last two games with Sergei Bobrovsky in goal following an eight-game winning streak, but turning to Curtis McElhinney didn't change the mojo. While the backup has had some nice moments this year, he's a highly risky fantasy start even when he gets his chances.

Columbus To Start McElhinney Tuesday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start Tuesday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will get his first start since Jan. 11, with Sergei Bobrovsky having manned the Columbus net Monday against the Hurricanes.

Jackets' McElhinney Picks Up Win Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney made 28 saves in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Now that Sergei Bobrovsky is back, Curtis McElhinney's opportunities will be few and far between. The Blue Jackets have just two more sets of back-to-back games before the Olympic break, and those might be the only chances McElhinney gets to play for the next month.

Jackets Expected To Start McElhinney On Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney is expected to get the starting nod Saturday vs. the Jets.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky started Friday's game and was skating with the expected healthy scratches at morning skate, a strong indication that Curtis McElhinney will handle the net for the Blue Jackets on Saturday. With the reigning Vezina winner healthy and looking strong since returning from injury, McElhinney figures to be limited to spot duty in the games to come.

Jackets Confirm McElhinney As Saturday Starter

News: As expected, Curtis McElhinney will get the start in goal Saturday vs. the Jets.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney carries a 7-8-1 record and 2.81 GAA and .909 save percentage into Saturday's game. He'll oppose the struggling Ondrej Pavelec, who has lost in four of his last five turns.

Jackets' McElhinney: 31 Saves In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney made 31 saves in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Blues. He also picked up an assist.
Analysis: The Blues are a tough, tough opponent and he had the Jackets up 2-0 after one. But the team had no answer for the relentless attack after attack from the strong St. Louis squad. Sergei Bobrovsky is set to return, so this will likely be Curtis McElhinney's last start for a while.

McElhinney To Start For Columbus

News: Curtis McElhinney will start Saturday's contest against St. Louis, the Columbus Post-Dispatch's Aaron Portzline reports.
Analysis: There was some possibility that Sergei Bobrovsky would return to action on Saturday, but that likely will wait until at least Monday. Curtis McElhinney draws the difficult assignment of facing one of the league's hottest teams in St. Louis.

Jackets' McElhinney Delivers 34-Save Shutout

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped all 34 shots that came his way in Thursday's 2-0 win over Phoenix.
Analysis: This is great timing for the veteran backup, who had just given up five goals in consecutive games and now has Sergei Bobrovsky healthy and ready to take his job back. Perhaps this will help Curtis McElhinney keep a greater share of the starts with Bob back.

Jackets Starting McElhinney On Thursday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in goal Thursday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will be making his fourth straight start Thursday, but with Sergei Bobrovsky cleared to return from IR to serve as his backup, it could be McElhinney's last turn as the Jackets' No. 1 netminder. He's done well to help keep Columbus afloat in Bobrovsky's stead, but McElhinney has little chance of permanently displacing the reigning Vezina winner.

Jackets' McElhinney Shelled Again Tuesday

News: For the third time in five games Curtis McElhinney got beat five times, as he made just 23 saves in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: Needless to say, the Blue Jackets have lost all three of those games. Sergei Bobrovsky can't get back soon enough for Columbus.
