Jackets' McElhinney Drops Third Straight

News: Curtis McElhinney took his third consecutive loss Thursday, giving up four goals on 26 shots against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Montreal's gotten the best of Curtis McElhinney twice in his last three starts, but this was his first game with a sub-.900 save mark in nearly two weeks. With Sergei Bobrovsky slated to return as soon as this weekend, the Ontarian backup is running out of fantasy relevance.

Blue Jackets Turn To McElhinney On Thursday

News: Curtis McElhinney is in line to start Thursday's game against the Canadiens, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Curtis McElhinney will be backed up by Oscar Dansk on Thursday. Meanwhile, fellow goalie Sergei Bobrovsky continues to progress and could be ready for action as soon as this weekend.

Jackets' McElhinney Falls In Shootout

News: Curtis McElhinney made 34 save on 37 shots in Sunday's shootout loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: A great outing for Curtis McElhinney, who falls to 10-10-2 on the season with a .918 save percentage and 2.69 GAA. While he's lost two straight games, the 31-year-old has suffered just two regulation losses in his last eight appearances. McElhinney makes for a decent fantasy play until starter Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) returns from injury.

Jackets' McElhinney To Start Sunday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start in net Sunday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will make his fourth consecutive start between the pipes Sunday, including back-to-back days with Saturday's contest against Montreal. He's been pretty good in his last three contests, and has won two of them. The netminder will look to continue his streak of performances in net, which could come to an end soon with the anticipated return of Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) in the near future.

Jackets' McElhinney Takes The Loss Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney made 21 saves Saturday, getting beaten twice by Max Pacioretty in a 3-1 loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: The Habs' third goal came on an empty net. Curtis McElhinney's won five of his last seven games, with a cool 2.00 GAA and .940 save percentage over that stretch, but his fantasy value is about to collapse with Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) set to resume his starting duties sometime this week.

Jackets' McElhinney To Start Again Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start Saturday's game against the Canadiens, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) is nearing a return, but with the Blue Jackets' top netminder not quite ready, Curtis McElhinney will get another start. The matchup is a tough one, but McElhinney did just beat the Penguins in Pittsburgh, stopping 29-of-30 shots in the process.

McElhinney, Jackets Stun Penguins

News: Curtis McElhinney held strong on 29 of 30 shot attempts and came away with a 2-1 win Thursday against the Penguins.
Analysis: It's not likely that too many people bet on Curtis McElhinney and the mediocre Jackets in a road game against the powerful Penguins, but if they did, they were handsomely rewarded. He's now on a three-game winning streak (and five out of six), and the last two performances have been particularly impressive. However, McElhinney has had a tendency in his career to fall back to earth in a painful manner, and Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) isn't too far from a return to action.

Jackets Going With McElhinney On Thursday

News: Curtis McElhinney will occupy the Columbus net for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Columbus still remains 13 points off the pace for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, but Curtis McElhinney's competent play in place of Sergei Bobrovsky since late January has kept the team competitive. McElhinney has reeled off wins in four of his last five outings, including a 42-save effort against the Flyers on Tuesday. He's still one of the low-end netminding options in daily leagues for Thursday's slate, but those in formats that start multiple goalies may want to keep McElhinney active in light of his recent play.

McElhinney's 42 Stops Lead Jackets To Win

News: Curtis McElhinney saved 42 of 44 shots Tuesday in a 5-2 victory over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Despite being fired upon 20 more times than opposing counterpart Ray Emery, Curtis McElhinney turned in a terrifically efficient outing -- and his fourth win in the last five starts. He's still just 9-9-1 on the year with so-so rate stats (at best), but things have been trending upward. However, Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) could be back in a week or so.

Blue Jackets Turn To McElhinney On Tuesday

News: Curtis McElhinney is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Flyers, Jeff Rimer of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney continues to fill in for Sergei Bobrovsky, who Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch relays via coach Todd Richards could be back in action by the end of this month.

Jackets' McElhinney Makes 22 Saves In Win

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped 22 of 25 shots in Friday's win over the Flyers.
Analysis: It wasn't an overly busy night for Curtis McElhinney, who picked up his third win in four games. The 31-year-old has put together a decent season, putting up an 8-9-1 record with a .913 save percentage and 2.84 GAA. With Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) sidelined, McElhinney has taken over the starting role. He's played well enough to warrant a look in some deeper leagues while Bobrovsky remains out.

Jackets Plan To Start McElhinney On Friday

News: Coach Todd Richards confirmed Curtis McElhinney would be in the crease for Friday's tilt with the Flyers, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Richards has yet to decide on a starter for Saturday's match on Long Island, but if Curtis McElhinney is able to turn in a credible outing Friday and doesn't face a barrage a shots, the coach will more than likely stick with him. After submitting a string of rotten performances during Sergei Bobrovsky's first stint on injured reserve this season, McElhinney has been much sharper during his current stint as the No. 1 goalie with Bobrovsky sidelined by a groin ailment. Since claiming primary duties on Jan. 27, McElhinney has gone a respectable 3-3-0 with a 2.55 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

McElhinney Stops 40 In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney made 40 saves but still lost 4-3 to the Kings on Monday.
Analysis: It was a valiant effort by Curtis McElhinney, but the Kings simply overwhelmed him with 44 shots. He's filled in admirably for the injured Sergei Bobrovsky, but the 31-year-old sports an unsightly 2.84 GAA on the season.

Jackets' McElhinney To Start Monday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start in net Monday against the Kings, Jeff Rimer of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney allowed just one goal in each of the last two games, receiving a win in both contests of a back-to-back Friday and Saturday. He's back in net again Monday, and will likely continue to receive most of the looks in net until Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) returns.

Jackets' McElhinney: 34 Saves, Second-Straight Win

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped 34 shots in a 4-1 win over the Senators on Saturday night.
Analysis: He made a huge pad save on Clarke MacArthur and got help from his posts. But a win is a win, and it's especially sweet against your former team. He has won two straight and three of his last five.

Jackets Sticking With McElhinney

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Senators, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney surprisingly cruised to an easy 7-1 victory over the Blues on Friday, stopping 33 shots in the upset. That was apparently good enough for coach Todd Richards to stick with the goalie for a second consecutive night. As the Jackets' primary netminder in place of the injured Sergei Bobrovsky (groin), McElhinney has fared better than anticipated, posting save percentages of .900 or better in five of his last six turns.

Jackets' McElhinney Makes 32 Saves In Win

News: Curtis McElhinney made 32 saves on 33 shots in Friday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) out, Curtis McElhinney has taken over starting duties in Columbus. The 31-year-old, who shut down a Blues' team Friday that was riding a 13-game point streak, owns a 6-8-1 record on the season. With a .911 save percentage and 2.88 GAA, McElhinney represents a decent fantasy option in Bobrovsky's absence. The Jackets, who have four wins in eight games, could turn to McElhinney again Saturday against Ottawa, as the 31-year-old was outstanding Friday.

McElhinney Slated To Start For Jackets On Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney is slated to receive the start in goal for Friday's game against the Blues, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Friday will mark the first game of a back-to-back set for the Blue Jackets, who will travel to Ottawa for a game Saturday. While backup Anton Forsberg is seemingly the favorite to make the latter turn in the crease, Curtis McElhinney could get both starts if he's somehow able to slow the St. Louis buzzsaw. That seems highly doubtful, given that he's churned out a mediocre 3.00 GAA and .907 save percentage over his 18 outings (14 starts) this season.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Takes Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney was beaten by the Lightning on Saturday, giving up three goals on 34 shots in a 3-1 loss.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney has now surrendered three goals in each of his last three starts, managing a single win against Washington. Columbus has had a rotten go of it this season, with a plethora of injuries to key players like Brandon Dubinsky, Nathan Horton and -- on multiple occasions -- workhorse netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, who is currently sidelined for another three-to-five weeks with a groin ailment. McElhinney has never appeared in more than 28 games in a season during his seven-year NHL career, so it'll be interesting to see how he holds up if coach Todd Richards keeps turning to him in Bobrovsky's absence. As of now, he's carrying a 5-8-1 record, a 3.00 GAA and a .907 save percentage through 18 appearances.

Jackets Expected To Go With McElhinney On Saturday

News: Curtis McElhinney is expected to draw the start in goal Saturday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Verification that Curtis McElhinney will man the crease should come forth during pregame warmups. McElhinney has backstopped the last two games for the Jackets in place of the injured Sergei Bobrovsky, surrendering three goals apiece in a win over the Capitals and a loss to the Panthers. The goalie is actually 4-1-0 over his last five appearances, but it will be tough to ask him to come away with a win Saturday against one of the Eastern Conference's top teams.

McElhinney Takes Loss For Jackets

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 31 shots in Thursday's loss to Florida.
Analysis: A late-third-period tally by Sean Bergenheim untied a 2-2 game and sent the Jackets to the loss column. But Curtis McElhinney played well enough overall to named the game's third star, so at least he can hang his hat on that.

Jackets' McElhinney Draws Start Thursday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney didn't perform particularly well in his first outing following Sergei Bobrovsky's placement on IR due to a groin injury, stopping just 25 of 28 shots in Tuesday's win over the Capitals. While the win was nice, fantasy owners shouldn't count on stellar numbers from McElhinney during his run as the Jackets' primary netminder. He fared poorly when Bobrovsky missed most of December due to a groin issue, and owns a meager 2.98 GAA and .906 save percentage over 16 outings on the season.

Jackets' McElhinney Unimpressive In Win

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 28 shots, but came away with the win Tuesday against visiting Washington.
Analysis: Not a terribly impressive outing for Curtis McElhinney, but he did win, which will help him to a small head start in his campaign to draw the majority of the action while Sergei Bobrovsky's groin ailment holds him out of action over the next month or so.

McElhinney Gets Start For Columbus

News: Curtis McElhinney is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Capitals, Jeff Rimer of FOX Sports Ohio reports.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky now on injured reserve and set to miss four-to-six weeks, Curtis McElhinney is now on track to see expanded work. Anton Forsberg was added to the Columbus netminding mix Monday, and he could steal starts from McElhinney if the veteran can't get the job done.

Jackets' McElhinney Stops 16 In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney made 16 saves on 17 shots in Wednesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney came on in relief of starter Sergei Bobrovsky midway through the second period after Bobrovsky suffered an undisclosed injury. McElhinney was not saddled with the loss since Bobrovsky allowed the eventual game winner before leaving.
