Jackets' McElhinney Stymies Flyers For First Win

News: Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves on 27 shots for his first win of the season Friday against Philadelphia.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney may have earned his first win, but he's about to take a seat on the bench, as Sergei Bobrovsky (finger) has been activated off injured reserve and could resume his starting duties as early as Saturday. McElhinney has struggled with Bobrovky injured, posting a 1-5-1 record to go with a .887 save percentage and 3.65 GAA. Once Bobrovsky officially returns, McElhinney loses the majority of his fantasy value, as the 31-year-old has done nothing to show he can be trusted in any league.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney To Start Again Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney is set to make another start Friday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Though Sergei Bobrovsky will travel with the Blue Jackets to Philadelphia, it doesn't appear that he's comfortable enough with how his glove is fitting on his broken finger to return to the net just yet. As a result, Curtis McElhinney's run as the Blue Jackets' No. 1 option in goal figures to be extended for yet another game, though he's hardly deserved that reward. McElhinney is 0-5-1 with a 3.76 GAA and .887 save percentage over seven outings this season, as the Blue Jackets have failed to win a single game this season when Bobrovsky hasn't played.

McElhinney Takes Another Loss For Jackets

News: Curtis McElhinney took yet another loss Tuesday, giving up four goals on 32 shots in Washington.
Analysis: He's now 0-5-1 in seven games (six starts) with the Jackets this year, which has the entire city of Columbus waiting with bated breath for the return of Sergei Bobrovsky (finger), which is slated for next week.

Columbus Returns Net To McElhinney

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the cage Tuesday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney played well in relief of Anton Forsberg on Saturday against the Lightning, but still saw his record drop to 0-5-1 in the 7-4 defeat. The Blue Jackets have yet to record a victory since Sergei Bobrovsky hit injured reserve with a broken finger, and with no definitive timetable for the netminder's return, McElhinney will be the team's top option by default.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Adequate In Relief

News: Curtis McElhinney relieved Anton Forsberg for the final two periods Saturday against the Lightning, ultimately taking the loss in the 7-4 defeat.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney entered the game with the Jackets facing a 4-0 deficit, so he was probably unfairly credited with the loss when the second-period tally he allowed to Ryan Callahan ended up going down as the nominal game-winner in a contest that wasn't as close as even the three-goal margin would indicate. On the whole, McElhinney generally performed competently in stopping 20 of 22 shots, but the fact that it qualified as a good outing for him speaks volumes about how putrid he's played this season. The 31-year-old is 0-4-1 with a 3.70 GAA and .889 save percentage, but because of the Jackets' lack of quality organizational goalie depth, he'll remain the primary option in the net until Sergei Bobrovsky (broken finger) is ready to return from IR.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney Continues To Struggle

News: Curtis McElhinney gave up three goals on 35 shots in Friday's overtime loss to Carolina.
Analysis: With Sergei Bobrovsky (finger) sidelined, the team has had no choice but to rely on Curtis McElhinney in the cage. Unfortunately, it just hasn't worked out, as McElhinney is now 0-3-1 with a .866 save percentage and 3.78 GAA on the season. Bobrovksy can't return soon enough, as Columbus has now dropped seven straight games.

Jackets To Start McElhinney On Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the crease Friday against the Hurricanes, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets are just trying to tread water in goal until Sergei Bobrovsky returns from a broken finger, but Curtis McElhinney figures to be the team's default option in goal until that time comes. McElhinney has been dreadful in four outings with a 4.08 GAA and .877 save percentage, making it difficult to trust him even against weak teams like the Hurricanes.

Jackets' McElhinney Stops 33 In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney took his third straight loss Tuesday against Carolina, surrendering three goals on 36 shots.
Analysis: Despite the unfavorable outcome, this represents Curtis McElhinney's finest start of the year. Sergei Bobrovsky can't return soon enough, as neither McElhinney nor Anton Forsberg has been able to win a single game in his absence.

Jackets' McElhinney Starting Tuesday

News: Curtis McElhinney will start in net Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will look to break out of his slump Tuesday after losing both of his last two starts and allowing nine goals in the process.

Jackets' McElhinney Gives Up Four Goals In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney surrendered four goals on 27 shots in Friday's loss to Toronto.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney has struggled of late, giving up nine goals in his last two games. Although he has taken over starting duties with Sergei Bobrovsky (fractured finger) on injured reserve, don't expect anything special. McElhinney has yet to win a game this season and currently sports a .859 save percentage and 4.49 goals-against average.

Jackets To Start McElhinney On Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be in the crease Friday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Despite getting shellacked for five goals on 34 shot attempts his last time out against the Senators on Tuesday, Curtis McElhinney will continue to enjoy a run as the team's No. 1 starter with Sergei Bobrovsky (fractured finger) on IR. He'll more than likely fare a little bit better in Friday's start than he did against the Senators, but McElhinney represents far from a dependable option for those looking to maintain strong ratios. Friday's game will be the first of a back-to-back set for the Blue Jackets, so it's possible that the team will turn to Anton Forsberg for Saturday's turn in New Jersey.

Jackets' McElhinney Pummeled In Loss

News: Curtis McElhinney surrendered five goals on 34 shot attempts in Tuesday's loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Making the start for the injured Sergei Bobrovsky, Curtis McElhinney turned in a decent effort through the first two periods, before collapsing over the final 20 minutes. The Senators overwhelmed McElhinney for 16 shot attempts in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals to salt the game away. The poor outing shouldn't affect McElhinney's standing as the Jackets' top option while Bobrovsky remains unavailable for at least the next week, though newly-appointed backup Anton Forsberg could receive one of the starts during the weekend back-to-back with the Maple Leafs and Devils.

Jackets Tap McElhinney For Tuesday Start

News: Curtis McElhinney will start against Ottawa on Tuesday night, Rob Mixer of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Analysis: Sergei Bobrovsky has been placed on IR with a fractured finger, and he's expected to miss at least one week. Curtis McElhinney figures to take the larger share of a split in playing time with Anton Forsberg while Bobrovsky is on the shelf.

Jackets' McElhinney (Upper Body) Activated Off IR

News: Curtis McElhinney (upper body) was activated off injured reserve Sunday.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney rejoined the team when they traveled to Anaheim on Friday, and now has been activated off injured reserve. He should resume his role as Sergei Bobrovsky's backup as the team assigned Anton Forsberg to AHL Springfield in a corresponding move.

Jackets' McElhinney Has Joined the Club in Anaheim

News: Curtis McElhinney (head/neck) has rejoined the Blue Jackets in Anaheim, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney seems to have recovered from the head injury he suffered in last Saturday's game. He will resume his role as Sergei Bobrovsky's backup moving forward.

Jackets' McElhinney Expected To Return Soon

News: Curtis McElhinney (head, neck) is feeling better and is expected to rejoin the team later this week, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney suffered a head injury and was placed on injured reserve on Sunday. As a result, he won't be able to return until the end of the weekend at the earliest, but it's an encouraging sign that he's feeling better. He should travel with the club on their upcoming three-game trip to California beginning Thursday.

Blue Jackets Place McElhinney On Injured Reserve

News: The Blue Jackets placed Curtis McElhinney on injured reserve Sunday with an upper body injury.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney will be out at least another week with a head injury suffered in Saturday's game, so the Blue Jackets placed him on injured reserve to open up a roster spot. Anton Forseberg was called up on an emergency basis from AHL Springfield to take McElhinney's place on the roster.

Jackets' McElhinney May Have Concussion

News: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards didn't dismiss the suggestion that Curtis McElhinney suffered a head injury or concussion during Saturday's game, the Columbus Dispatch reports. "I'm careful about saying that right now, but obviously he got hit," Richards said. "He was bent over, and Nicky [Foligno] comes sliding into him full-speed."
Analysis: Should Curtis McElhinney be sidelined for any length of time, Anton Forsberg would likely be recalled from AHL Springfield to back up Sergei Bobrovsky.

Jackets' McElhinney Leaves With Injury

News: Curtis McElhinney left Saturday's game against Ottawa with an undisclosed injury, the Columbus Dispatch's Shawn Mitchell reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney was hurt on a strange play in which Nick Foligno accidentally crashed his own goal and left McElhinney down on the ice on all fours. He was down for quite a while before eventually skating off on his own. The extent of the injury is unknown, but Sergei Bobrovksy will finish this one out for Columbus. McElhinney allowed two goals (including one on the play he was injured) on 16 shots before departing.

Jackets Plan To Start McElhinney On Saturday

News: Coach Todd Richards said the Blue Jackets plan to use Curtis McElhinney in the net Saturday against the Senators, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Assuming Sergei Bobrovsky isn't pulled early from his scheduled start Friday, Curtis McElhinney will see his first action of the season against his former team in Ottawa. The 31-year-old backup was merely adequate in 28 games with the Jackets last season, accumulating a 2.70 GAA and .909 save percentage. He figures to see an extremely light workload so long as Bobrovsky remains healthy.

News: Curtis McElhinney will likely start either Friday or Saturday, the The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney has yet to play this season, but it appears he will make his debut and give starter Sergei Bobrovsky a rest sometime this weekend.

Blue Jackets Re-Sign McElhinney

News: The Blue Jackets have signed Curtis McElhinney to a one-year contract extension.
Analysis: Curtis McElhinney, who recorded a 10-11-1 record with a 2.78 GAA, .909 save percentage and two shutouts in 28 games for the Blue Jackets this past season, is thus in line to reprise his role as backup to Sergei Bobrovsky in 2014-15.

McElhinney, Jackets Fall To Bolts

News: Curtis McElhinney stopped 19 of 22 shots in Friday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: With the Blue Jackets working to secure a playoff spot over the last couple of weeks, Curtis McElhinney has collected dust on the bench most nights. He seemed understandably rusty in his first start since Mar. 29, and might not get a chance at redemption the rest of the way. Top netminder Sergei Bobrovsky is scheduled to start the team's season finale Saturday against the Panthers.

Blue Jackets' McElhinney To Start Friday

News: Curtis McElhinney will be between the pipes for Friday's game against the Lightning, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Columbus is still battling for playoff positioning, but head coach Todd Richards wanted to give regular goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky a night off with the Blue Jackets playing back-to-back nights and the playoffs coming up. Curtis McElhinney will take on a Lightning team that sits eighth in the league with 2.86 goals per game.
