Jets' Slater Breaks Finger In Finale

News: Jim Slater broke his finger in the Jets' season-ending win over the Flames on Friday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater has had tough luck with injuries this season. He missed over four months of action following sports hernia surgery, and now enters the summer with a new ailment to address. The broken finger shouldn't delay his availability for training camp, but it's an annoying inconvenience to deal with nonetheless. Slater finished the 2013-14 campaign with just two points over 27 games.

Jets' Slater Expected To Play Saturday

News: Jim Slater (lower body) is expected to play against the Hurricanes on Saturday, according to TSN's Sara Orlesky.
Analysis: Jim Slater has one point on the season and has never been a fantasy factor in his career. His return adds depth and veteran leadership to the lineup, but that doesn't translate into point production.

Jets' Slater Day-To-Day With Lower-Body Injury

News: Jim Slater is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater was banged up during Saturday's game against the Rangers and looks like he could be out for a couple of days. Consider him day-to-day and expect the Jets to update his condition shortly.

Jets Activate Slater From IR

News: Jim Slater (sports hernia) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Jim Slater has been practicing with the team for the past week, and after coach Paul Maurice came away confident that the forward was 100 percent healthy following morning skate, he'll be back in the lineup for the first time since Oct. 18. He'll man the fourth-line center spot in his return.

Jets' Slater Receives Full Medical Clearance

News: Jim Slater (sports hernia) has received full medical clearance to return to the lineup, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The only issue standing in his way is a crowded roster that's similarly healthy and might not have any immediate openings. The Jets would have to demote a player to the minors to make room for Jim Slater's return from IR, which might lead coach Paul Maurice to simply let the forward rest up for a few more games before making any roster decisions.

Jets' Slater Back At Work

News: Jim Slater (sports hernia) was on the ice with his teammates Wednesday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater last suited up for the Jets on Oct. 18, but his presence on the ice Wednesday suggests that he could be nearing a return to the team's lineup. With just one goal and three points in his last 34 NHL games over the last two seasons, though, Slater's fantasy utility is restricted to deeper formats.

Jets' Slater Gradually Improving

News: Jim Slater (sports hernia) is making slow but steady progress in his recovery, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports. "I don't know where he's at percentage-wise, but he's above 50 percent," coach Claude Noel said of Slater's health.
Analysis: Jim Slater has been able to skate for over a month and seems to be nearing a return from IR in the weeks to come. He'll likely occupy a third- or fourth-line role with the Jets once healthy.

Jets' Slater Resumes Skating

News: Jim Slater (sports hernia) resumed skating Thursday morning, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater only saw light work on the ice, as he is still considered a long ways off of returning from surgery. He won't be viewed as close to coming back until he logs at least a few consecutive full practices.

Jets' Slater Undergoes Surgery, Out Indefinitely

News: Jim Slater underwent surgery for a sports hernia Thursday, and will be out indefinitely, Scott Brown of True North Sports reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater was listed as day-to-day with a mysterious injury for a while, so at least fantasy owners finally know the extent of the injury. The center has just one assist in eight games to date, so he's probably not worth holding onto in most fantasy leagues now that he's out long-term.

Jets' Slater Out Indefinitely

News: It's not certain when Jim Slater (undisclosed) will return to action, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater last suited up Oct. 18, and though he was initially labeled as day-to-day, the nearly two-week absence suggests his injury is a little more concerning than the Jets have let on. With only one point in eight contests this season, he's waiver-wire bait in most fantasy leagues.

Jets' Slater To Miss Start Of Road Trip

News: Jim Slater (undisclosed) will not join the team for the start of its upcoming road trip, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Jets head out Thursday for Nashville, the first stop on their four-game trip, but Jim Slater will stay behind. There's still a chance, however, that Slater could join the team in Colorado or St. Louis, as it was reported Monday that he would miss about a week of action.

Jets' Slater Likely Out A Week

News: Jim Slater, previously considered day-to-day, could be out up to a week, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The nature of Jim Slater's injury still isn't known, but given his depth-line role, he's not really a fantasy factor even in deep leagues.

Jets' Slater Out Against Nashville

News: Jim Slater (undisclosed) will not play against the Predators, according to Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Analysis: Devin Setoguchi will work his way back into the lineup in Jim Slater's place. Slater is more of a depth player on the team's bottom two lines and is not a fantasy worthy player.

Jets' Slater Dealing With Injury

News: Jim Slater is dealing with an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Coach Claude Noel would only say that Jim Slater has "nagging issues," so it's not apparent what the exact nature of his injury is. In any case, he's questionable to play Sunday against Nashville.

Jets' Slater Ready To Play

News: Jim Slater (undisclosed) would not discuss the nature of the issue that kept him off the ice the past two days, but he said he is ready to play Friday against the Blues, the Winnipeg Sun's Ken Wiebe reports.
Analysis: Media reports called it an "undisclosed injury," and it looks like that's the most information we're going to get. In any case, Jim Slater will be available Friday.

Jets' Slater Day-to-Day With Undisclosed Injury

News: Jim Slater is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Of the three players coach Claude Noel described as day-to-day (Jim Slater, Evander Kane, and Bryan Little), only Kane was mentioned as having the potential to go Friday against St. Louis. Patrice Cormier figures to step up to the fourth line in Slater's absence.

Jets' Slater Pots First Point Of Season On Devils

News: Jim Slater assisted on a late goal by captain Andrew Ladd in the third period of a 3-0 win over the Devils on Sunday.
Analysis: Jim Slater had just one goal and one assist in 26 games last season and has been regarded as little more than a hard-nosed checker throughout most of his career. He's fortunate to be on an NHL roster given his past performance and is not a factor in fantasy leagues.

Jets' Slater Has Upper Body Injury

News: Jim Slater is week-to-week with an upper body injury, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater was injured during the Jets' loss to the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, and there are rumors swirling that he has a broken hand, although that has not been confirmed. The Jets called up Patrice Cormier from AHL St. Johns to take Slater's place.

Jets' Slater: Notches Helper In Loss To Bruins

News: Jim Slater picked up an assist on Chris Thorburn's first period goal during Monday's 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins,
Analysis: Jim Slater is considered more of a grinder rather than a consistent source of fantasy production, so his helper on Monday is a rare ink blot on the score sheet. The Jets' top young guns and Slater's 122 points in 451 career games make him no better than a free agent floater fantasy wise.

Slater Re-Signs With Jets

News: Jim Slater agreed to a three-year, $4.8 million contract extension with the Jets on Wednesday, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater picked up 13 goals and eight assists in a career-high 78 games with the Jets last season. Expect him to center one of the Jets' reserve lines again when the new campaign kicks off.

Winnipeg's Slater To Represent USA At World Championships

News: Jim Slater will don the "USA" sweater in May at the IIHF's upcoming World Championships, TSN's Sara Orlesky reports.
Analysis: Jim Slater had one of his most offensively productive seasons in 2012 and finished the year by recording three points in his last two games. With any luck, he can maintain that momentum when he takes his game to the international stage.

Slater Buries Two For Jets

News: Jim Slater netted two of Winnipeg's three goals in an overtime loss to the visiting Lightning on Saturday night. The 29-year-old finished the season with 13 scores in all.
Analysis: When it came to ice time in 2011-12, Jim Slater was admirable in his ability to do more with less. Nonetheless, a forward outside of the Jets' top two units is a hard sell for fantasy purposes.

Slater Finds 11th Of Season

News: Jim Slater buried his 11th score of the year Friday night in Carolina as the Jets defeated their divisional rivals in overtime, 4-3.
Analysis: Now with 18 points on the season, Jim Slater is a safe bet for 15-20 in that column each year moving forward.

Jets' Slater Notches 10th Goal Of Season

News: Jim Slater recorded his 10th score of the year Tuesday night as the Jets came up short against the Penguins by a final score of 4-8.
Analysis: Though Jim Slater along with teammates Tanner Glass and Chris Thorburn constitute the fan-favorite "GST" (Glass, Slater, Thorburn) line in Winnipeg, the former first-round selection is slightly less adored in fantasy circles. The Michigan native has accumulated just 16 points in 69 games played, not to mention a minus-11 rating on the year.

Winnipeg's Slater Scores Eighth Of Season

News: Jim Slater notched his eighth goal on the year just 49 seconds into Monday's game in Ottawa, helping the Jets to a 2-0 victory.
Analysis: Though Jim Slater will give you a productive night here or there, he is a long way from fantasy relevance. Unless head coach Claude Noel permanently moves him to one of Winnipeg's first two offensive units, the American veteran is an unlikely candidate to surpass 30 points this season, or make a significant impact in any other category.
