Three Goals In Four Games For Caps' Brouwer

News: Troy Brouwer scored a goal for the third time in the last four games Tuesday, notching a power-play goal for Washington's lone tally in a marathon 2-1 shootout loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer missed on his shootout try, but he's found some offensive touch of late with this little goal-scoring run. Nonetheless, he remains unlikely to contribute more than his typical totals of approximately 20 goals and 35-40 points.

Caps' Brouwer Notches Goal In Win

News: Troy Brouwer found the back of the net on one of his four shots on goal in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer scored his first goal since Nov. 29 against Toronto. While he certainly isn't as adept of a scorer as Alexander Ovechkin, Brouwer has contributed nicely to the Capitals' offense this season, scoring seven goals and adding six assists in 27 games.

Caps' Brouwer: Goals In Three Straight

News: Troy Brouwer found the net for the third straight game Sunday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: While not a premier sniper, Troy Brouwer is a capable contributor in a number of categories for both the Capitals and fantasy owners. The 29-year-old has compiled seven points in 11 games this season and has historically been a useful source of hits and penalty minutes as well. His run of goal scoring figures to phase out eventually, but that won't spell the end of his utility in deeper formats with specialty categories.

Caps' Brouwer Scores In Loss

News: Troy Brouwer tallied a goal in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: The goal gave Troy Brouwer his first point in his last five games, which will hopefully break him out of his slump. He started the year off hot with four points in his first four games, so he certainly has the potential to be a valuable fantasy winger.

Caps' Brouwer Grabs Two Helpers

News: Troy Brouwer picked up a pair of assists in Thursday's 6-2 triumph over the Devils.
Analysis: He assisted on goals by new linemates Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, and he could provide a nice boost for fantasy purposes as long as he's able to hold that position. He's got four points in as many games to start the year.

Caps' Brouwer Skates With Top Line

News: Troy Brouwer skated on the team's top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom during Wednesday's practice, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The move comes after Washington's 6-5 shootout loss to San Jose on Tuesday night, so it's reasonable to expect the lines to be shuffled after such a game. However, given that Troy Brouwer's face-off prowess is crucially important to the productivity of the second line, it's hard to see him being separated from Marcus Johansson and Andre Burakovsky for very long given that neither player is adept at handling face-offs. In any case, Brouwer's blend of goal-scoring and physical play makes him a worthwhile winger in all formats, and this move should do nothing to decrease his value.

Caps' Brouwer Sends Game To Overtime

News: Troy Brouwer's goal with less than five minutes remaining in the third period sent Tuesday's game against the Sharks into overtime.
Analysis: The Sharks would ultimately prevail in the shootout, but Troy Brouwer's heroics briefly delighted a packed Verizon Center crowd that likely thought the game's outcome had already been decided when the Sharks raced to a two-goal lead earlier in the period. With two points in three games, Brouwer looks set to reprise his role as a reliable secondary scorer for the Capitals. He's mostly of interest to those in mid-sized or deeper formats, particularly those in which penalty minutes and hit totals are counted.

Caps' Brouwer Nets Game-Winner Friday

News: Troy Brouwer scored the winning goal to propel the Capitals to a 5-4 OT win over the Bruins on Friday.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer cashed in on great forechecking by Jason Chimera during the extra frame. Brouwer has looked sharp in the first week of preseason, and seems poised to start the season on the team's second-line. Brouwer is also getting significant time on the team's primary power-play unit and getting chances with the man advantage. Given that he's available in mid to late rounds, Brouwer has significant sleeper upside as the regular season approaches, and is worth a flier in all fantasy drafts.

Caps' Brouwer Has Goal, Assist In Loss To Flyers

News: Troy Brouwer finished with a goal and an assist to go along with three SOG in 18:00 of ice-time during the Capitals' 5-4 loss to the Flyers on Monday.
Analysis: Both of Troy Brouwer's points came on the power-play. He played on an even-strength line with Evgeny Kuznetsov, believed to have the inside track on the team's second-line center job. It's looking like Brouwer will be a fixture on a scoring line in DC this coming season, giving the power-forward some sleeper potential in deeper leagues.

Caps' Brouwer To Play In World Championship

News: Troy Brouwer has been selected to Team Canada's roster for the upcoming IIHF World Championships in Belarus, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer had a rough start to the 2013-2014 NHL season, but finished the campaign strong as he finished with a career high 25 goals and 43 points, enough to win favor with the Team Canada brass. Brouwer's penchant for physical play and face-off prowess make him an ideal candidate for deeper leagues heading into next season.

Brouwer's Two Goals Help Caps To Victory

News: Brower scored his 24th and 25th goals of the year in Thursday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: Because he scored the Caps' third goal in a 5-2 win, Troy Brouwer was credited with the game-winner. This has been the best season of his career in multiple offensive categories, including goals, but Brouwer still has just 43 points on the year, which simply won't play in shallower formats.

Caps' Brouwer Gets Two Helpers Tuesday

News: Troy Brouwer assisted on two goals in Tuesday's shootout loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer got off to a quick start in having a hand in both of Alex Ovechkin's first-period power-play goals, but suffered an injury scare later on during the game. Following a brief skirmish with Willie Mitchell, Brouwer was down on the ice for a bit before retreating to the locker room. He would later return and finish with 16:01 of total ice time in the contest.

Capitals' Brouwer Tallies Two Goals

News: Troy Brouwer scored two goals, including a power-play tally, against the Maple Leafs on Sunday.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer now has 20 goals on the season for the second time in his career, although he did score 19 goals in 47 games last season. Ten of them have been on the power-play, which is sixth best in the NHL.

Caps' Brouwer Nets Winner; Eight Goals In Last 10

News: Troy Brouwer scored the winner on a third-period power play in Saturday's victory over the Coyotes. It was his 18th goal of the season and ninth power-play marker.
Analysis: He's inching close to his career mark of 22, but those nine PPGs are a new high. He's ripping right now with eight goals in his last 10 games. Squeeze every ounce of goodness out of him before you have to bench him again.

Brouwer's Two Power-Play Goals Lift Caps

News: Troy Brouwer scored twice on the man advantage in Thursday's 5-4 victory over Florida.
Analysis: He opened the scoring and later scored a key goal that gave the Caps a 4-2 lead at the time. Troy Brouwer entered the Olympic break hot, and he's left it hot as well, scoring five goals in his last three games.

Caps' Brouwer Scores A Pair

News: Troy Brouwer scored two goals in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Following an 11-game goalless streak, Troy Brouwer has four marks in his last six games. There's really nothing out of the ordinary to see here, as the goalless streak coincided with a stretch where the Capitals were playing AHL-quality hockey. Brouwer's still disappointing if you were expecting more of what he did last season, but his 13 goals and 13 assists through 58 games are right in line with his pre-2012-13 production.

Caps' Brouwer Ends Monthlong Goal Slump

News: Troy Brouwer scored his first goal in nearly a month Tuesday, adding an assist in a 5-4 win over Buffalo. Both points came on the power play.
Analysis: He hadn't found the net since Dec. 29, going 11 games without hitting twine between then and Tuesday and only collecting two helpers in that span. Despite very consistent ice time -- nearly 19 minutes per game -- Troy Brouwer's been totally unreliable as a fantasy asset this year. His only meaningful contribution has been in the area of power-play points, which account for 13 of his 23 points on the season.

Capitals Need Brouwer To Be Better

News: In the midst of a nine game goal-less streak, Troy Brouwer knows he's "not achieving as much" as he should, Katie Carrera of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The Capitals are mired in a terrible slump, and Troy Brouwer's lack of positive consistency on the scoresheet is partly to blame. Brouwer set high expectations for himself after netting 19 goals and 33 points in 47 games last season, but only has nine goals and 11 assists in 50 games this year, notes Carrera. The hard-nosed Stanley Cup winner is getting plenty of opportunities to jumpstart his offense, but nothing has worked to this point. Though he collects a great deal of hits, his total of two points in the last 10 games keeps him off the fantasy radar in all but the deepest of leagues.

Caps' Brouwer Moved To Top Line

News: With Alex Ovechkin's status for Tuesday's game uncertain, Troy Brouwer practiced on Washington's top line with Marcus Johansson and Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Vogel of WashingtonCaps.com reports.
Analysis: If Ovechkin is unable to go, the Capitals will turn to Troy Brouwer to fill his shoes. While Brouwer plays a similar style to Ovechkin, he doesn't possess anything resembling the same degree of talent and skill. Brouwer has nine goals and 11 assists on the season, but only two points in the month of January, so temper expectations even if he picks up this extra ice time.

News: Troy Brouwer scored a goal and had five shots on nets against the Sabres on Sunday.

Caps' Brouwer Cooling Off

News: Troy Brouwer has just one point on one goal in his last five games.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer has been streaky to start the season. After going pointless in his first five games, Brouwer notched three points in his next four games. Since then, he has just one point in five games. Despite the streakiness, Brouwer looks to be on track with his career numbers.

Caps' Brouwer Heating Up

News: After failing to notch a single point in his first five games, Troy Brouwer has earned two points in his last three games.
Analysis: Troy Brouwer's two points both came on goals. He's earned 33 points in each of his last two seasons, one of which was strike shortened. Brouwer will hope to build off last season, where he scored 19 goals in 47 games. His career high in goals is 22, back in 2009-2010.

Caps' Brouwer Contributes Two Goals

News: Troy Brouwer scored two goals -- the first on a power play, the second into an empty net -- in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The points were Troy Brouwer's first of April, as he'd gone five games without getting on the board. Still, fantasy owners in deeper leagues have to be happy with his scoring outburst this year. The power-play goal gave him a new career best in man-advantage points (14), and his 0.7 points per game is by far a career-high rate.

Caps' Brouwer: Career Pace

News: Troy Brouwer scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Buffalo. He now has eight points (four goals, four assists) in his last seven games.
Analysis: His 25 points in 33 games is a career-best pace. Keep him rolling, but keeper leaguers should seriously weigh his value in an offseason trade. Is he the guy who's on a 60-plus point pace right now or is he the guy whose best season was 40 points?
