Coyotes Acquire Grossmann

News: The Coyotes acquired Grossman and Chris Pronger's contract in exchange for Sam Gagner on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: The Coyotes were extremely thin at defense, so making a move for a proven defender like Nicklas Grossmann in the offseason was somewhat of a necessity. Unfortunately, they had to give up Gagner in order to bolster their defensive core. However, this may not be as big of a blow to the Coyotes as it seems, as there were reports surfacing that the team was considering buying out the rest of Gagner's contract if they were unable to figure out a trade with another club. His offensive production will be hard to replace, but Arizona will hope that an improved defensive group will more than make up for any decrease in scoring the team might experience in 2015-16. Grossmann is a solid NHL defender, but lacks offensive skill, so don't expect too much from the 30-year-old in terms of fantasy relevance.

Flyers' Grossmann Records Assist In Win

News: Nicklas Grossmann recorded an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann and defensive partner Mark Streit combined for four helpers on the evening, though Streit did most of the heavy lifting offensively, as he usually does. With a respectable 126 hits and 87 blocks over his 66 games, Grossmann typically focuses his efforts on protecting the crease in front of goalie Steve Mason, which limits his output on the other end of the ice. The blueliner has only five goals and 14 points on the season.

Flyers' Grossmann Returns Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (head) is slated to return to action Tuesday against the Stars, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann, who missed the team's last four games, checks back into the Flyers' lineup with a modest total of nine points in 53 games, though he has added 97 hits and 71 blocks in that span.

Flyers' Grossmann Could Play Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) could return for Tuesday's game against the Stars, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: According to general manager Ron Hextall, Nicklas Grossmann has only an outside chance to return Tuesday, but the outlook is much more likely for Thursday's game against the Blues. Carlo Colaiacovo should continue to fill in on the third defensive pairing if Grossmann is forced out of another contest.

Flyers' Grossmann Ruled Out Thursday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Blues, Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Coach Craig Berube wasn't willing to rule Nicklas Grossmann out from playing over the weekend, but he didn't seem optimistic that the defenseman would be available for either of the team's games Saturday or Sunday. Carlo Colaiacovo is slated to fill Grossmann's spot on the Flyers' third defensive pairing.

Flyers' Grossmann Iffy For Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Flames, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Barring a positive turn in the next day, it looks like the soonest we'll see Nicklas Grossmann suit up for the Flyers again is Thursday against the Blues.

Flyers' Grossman Hit In Head With Shot

News: Updating an earlier report, Grossman was struck in the head, not the shoulder, by a puck, according to the Associated Press. He was helped off the ice and did not return.
Analysis: He was hit while attempting to block Rick Nash's shot with 15:19 left in the second period. God speed, young man.

Flyers' Grossman Leaves With Shoulder Injury

News: Grossman left Saturday's game with shoulder injury and will not return, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: He was lying face down on the ice after getting hit by a puck and was then helped off. It is not clear how serious the injury is, but for now owners should consider him day-to-day.

Flyers Activate Grossmann From IR

News: Nicklas Grossmann (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve and will play Thursday against the Islanders.
Analysis: He's set to play for the first time since Jan. 8, joining Andrew MacDonald on the Flyers' third pairing. Nicklas Grossmann hasn't shown much on the offensive end this season (three goals, five assists in 41 games), but has averaged nearly two hits and more than one block per contest.

Flyers' Grossmann In Line To Play Thursday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (shoulder) is on track to return to the lineup Thursday against the Islanders, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, skating on the second pairing with Andrew MacDonald. His official activation from IR should come following Thursday's morning skate.

Flyers' Grossmann To Remain Out Saturday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (shoulder) will not return to the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: The Flyers suggested after Friday's practice that Nicklas Grossmann was closing in on a return to the lineup, but his shoulder is apparently still bugging him enough that the team decided to keep him out for another game. The rearguard last suited up for the Flyers on Jan. 8.

Flyers' Grossmann Being Considered For Saturday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (shoulder) hasn't been ruled out as a lineup option for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The Flyers medical staff has already cleared Nicklas Grossmann for a return, and his participation in Friday's practice lends further credence to the belief that he might be cleared to play Saturday. At this point, the decision seems to remain solely up to coach Craig Berube, who will likely evaluate Grossmann during Saturday's morning skate before determining his status for the game that evening.

Flyers' Grossmann Not Ready To Go

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) won't be a lineup option for Thursday's game against the Jets, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann has been cleared to play at this point after missing the previous three weeks with the injury, but the coaching staff believes the blueliner is in need of some more practice time. His return to action could come over the weekend against the Leafs, with Carlo Colaiacovo likely moving out of the lineup to accommodate him.

Flyers' Grossman Nearing Return

News: Grossman (upper body) has been cleared to play, and while he won't be available for Tuesday's game against the Coyotes, he hope to return by the end of the week, CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Grossman is approaching the end of his three-week timetable, which seems to have been a near-perfect estimation. He still needs to log a few practices, but he hasn't been ruled out beyond Tuesday.

Flyers' Grossmann (Upper Body) On IR

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Analysis: The move allowed the Flyers to recall goalie Rob Zepp from AHL Lehigh Valley. Nicklas Grossmann is set to miss at least three weeks due to the injury he suffered during last Thursday's game.

Flyers' Grossmann (Upper Body) Out Three Weeks

News: Nicklas Grossmann is expected to miss three weeks due to the upper-body injury he suffered Thursday against the Capitals, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The injury appeared to be related to Nicklas Grossmann's right shoulder. Grossmann had been holding down a top-pairing spot next to Mark Streit, but those duties are now likely to go to Andrew MacDonald for the next several games. With eight points in 41 games, Grossmann wasn't really on the radar in most fantasy formats, but his physicality will be missed on the Flyers' blue line.

Grossman Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Nicklas Grossmann left during the first period of Thursday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann will finish the game with just 5:46 of ice time, leaving the Flyers with just five defensemen for the remainder of the game. He appeared to have injured his shoulder and possibly suffered a concussion, but the team should provide an update prior to Saturday's game against the Bruins.

Flyers' Grossman Still On Pace For Best Season

News: Nicklas Grossmann hasn't tallied a point in six games, but remains on pace for his best NHL season.
Analysis: He's on pace to best his personal records in plus/minus and points. That said, he's minus-4 in his last three games, and the Flyers' defense has played woefully. If he's on your roster, monitor him accordingly.

Flyers' Grossman Scores In Loss

News: Grossman potted a goal in Saturday's 5-2 loss against the Rangers.
Analysis: Grossman ended the Flyers' 133-minute goalless drought against the Rangers in the first period. It's his second goal of the season, and just his fifth point. The defenseman only has value in the deepest of leagues.

Flyers' Grossmann Notches First Point

News: Nicklas Grossmann finished with a goal and a team-high six blocked shots and five hits in Saturday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: The point was Grossman's first of the season in eight games, but the Flyers will primarily depend on him to help support their goaltending, a role he filled admirably Saturday. With both Andrew MacDonald and Braydon Coburn out for the next four weeks with lower-body injuries, Nicklas Grossmann's defensive responsibilities on a weak Flyers blue line will become more important than ever.

Flyers' Grossmann Expected To Return Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (illness) is expected to play Tuesday against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann missed Monday's practice with a stomach virus, but all indications are that he'll be healthy enough to play Tuesday. He's set to pair up with Mark Streit.

Flyers' Grossmann Day-to-Day

News: Nicklas Grossmann will not practice Monday due to a stomach virus.
Analysis: The Flyers are back in action Tuesday night, which likely makes Nicklas Grossmann questionable for that tilt, depending on how much he recovers over the next 24 hours.

Flyers' Grossmann (Ankle) Will Be Ready For Camp

News: Nicklas Grossmann (ankle) was on the ice this week and will be ready for training camp, reports the Courier-Post. "It's a matter of just getting better and better, but I'm feeling pretty good," said the defender.
Analysis: The surgery to repair tendons in his right ankle required six-to-eight weeks of rehab. The big Swede delivered one goal, 13 assists and 55 PIMs in 78 games with the Flyers last season and should replicated those totals this season. Unfortunately, that won't make him much of a fantasy play.

Flyers' Grossman To Begin Rehab

News: Grossman will begin rehabbing his surgically-repaired ankle later this week.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann underwent the ankle procedure Apr. 29 and is expected to make a full recovery after six-to-eight weeks of rehab. He appeared in the first four games of the Rangers' first-round series loss to the Rangers, averaging 19:10 of ice time and blocking six shots.
