Flyers' Grossmann Notches First Point

News: Nicklas Grossmann finished with a goal and a team-high six blocked shots and five hits in Saturday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: The point was Grossman's first of the season in eight games, but the Flyers will primarily depend on him to help support their goaltending, a role he filled admirably Saturday. With both Andrew MacDonald and Braydon Coburn out for the next four weeks with lower-body injuries, Nicklas Grossmann's defensive responsibilities on a weak Flyers blue line will become more important than ever.

Flyers' Grossmann Expected To Return Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (illness) is expected to play Tuesday against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann missed Monday's practice with a stomach virus, but all indications are that he'll be healthy enough to play Tuesday. He's set to pair up with Mark Streit.

Flyers' Grossmann Day-to-Day

News: Nicklas Grossmann will not practice Monday due to a stomach virus.
Analysis: The Flyers are back in action Tuesday night, which likely makes Nicklas Grossmann questionable for that tilt, depending on how much he recovers over the next 24 hours.

Flyers' Grossmann (Ankle) Will Be Ready For Camp

News: Nicklas Grossmann (ankle) was on the ice this week and will be ready for training camp, reports the Courier-Post. "It's a matter of just getting better and better, but I'm feeling pretty good," said the defender.
Analysis: The surgery to repair tendons in his right ankle required six-to-eight weeks of rehab. The big Swede delivered one goal, 13 assists and 55 PIMs in 78 games with the Flyers last season and should replicated those totals this season. Unfortunately, that won't make him much of a fantasy play.

Flyers' Grossman To Begin Rehab

News: Grossman will begin rehabbing his surgically-repaired ankle later this week.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann underwent the ankle procedure Apr. 29 and is expected to make a full recovery after six-to-eight weeks of rehab. He appeared in the first four games of the Rangers' first-round series loss to the Rangers, averaging 19:10 of ice time and blocking six shots.

Flyers' Grossmann Out 8-10 Weeks After Surgery

News: Nicklas Grossmann underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair damage to the tendon in his right ankle. He'll be sidelined for the next eight-to-10 weeks with the injury.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann left Game 4 of the Flyers' first-round series with the Rangers due to the injury, and now it looks like he'll be shut down for the rest of the postseason with surgery apparently unavoidable. The 29-year-old led the Flyers with 174 blocked shots over his 78 games.

Flyers' Grossmann Out For Game 6

News: Grossman (lower body) will not play in Tuesday's Game 6 against the Rangers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann's continued absence presumably paves the way for Hal Gill to remain in the Flyers' blue line mix after seeing 12:02 worth of ice time in Sunday's Game 5 loss to the Rangers.

Flyers' Grossman (Lower Body) Out Sunday

News: Grossman (lower body) has been ruled out for Sunday's Game 5 against the Rangers, TSN reports.
Analysis: The defenseman left Friday's Game 4 early in the second period with a lower-body injury and did not return. While little is known about the injury, the fact that he's been ruled out nearly 24 hours before game time isn't exactly a positive indication. Expect Erik Gustafsson or Hal Gill to see more ice time in his place.

Flyers' Grossmann Out With Lower-Body Injury

News: Nicklas Grossmann left Friday's game early in the second period with a lower-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: With Nicklas Grossmann in the locker room, the Flyers will have to finish the game with just five defensemen. If he misses any games past Friday, Erik Gustafsson or Hal Gill could find themselves suiting up for the Flyers.

Flyers' Grossmann Scores In Loss

News: Nicklas Grossmann snuck a wrist shot by Devils goalie Martin Brodeur in Tuesday's 2-1 loss.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann was held pointless and PIM-less in his previous five games, a rare feat for the defenseman. This marks his first goal this season, so don't expect too many more such gifts.

Flyers' Grossman: Assist In Blowout Loss

News: Grossman collected an assist but was held out of the penalty box in Thursday's 7-3 drubbing by San Jose.
Analysis: The other positive is that the upper-body injury he suffered in the game before the Olympic break doesn't seem to be holding him back. Grossman has been a solid PIM collector this season, but his lack of offensive production and disgusting plus-minus rating (minus-10) leave much to be desired.

Flyers' Grossman Set To Play Thursday

News: Grossman (upper body) will play against the Sharks on Thursday, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
Analysis: Grossman exited the Flyers' final game before the break with the upper-body injury, but he seemed to check out fine after taking the Olympic break off to rest up. The 29-year-old is still in search of his first goal on the season, but has provided 10 assists to go along with his 137 hits and 142 blocks over 58 games.

Flyers' Grossman Sustains Upper-Body Injury

News: Grossman sustained an upper-body injury in Saturday's win over the Flames.
Analysis: The injury limited Grossman to 13:05 of ice time Saturday -- about six minutes less than he's been averaging this season. The Flyers plan to reevaluate him Sunday and should have an update on his condition at that time.

Flyers' Grossman Assists Twice

News: Grossman grabbed two assists in Tuesday's overtime win over the Devils, including the primary helper on Brayden Schenn's game-winner.
Analysis: The points snapped a five-game scoreless streak for Grossman, who in fact had gathered one single lonely point in his last 21 games. Needless to say, don't get overly excited about this one.

Flyers' Grossman Back In Action Monday

News: Grossman (illness) will play Monday against the Wild, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Grossman missed Saturday's game due to the flu, but it appears his symptoms have dissipated over the past 48 hours. He'll likely draw back in on the second pairing with Mark Streit.

Flyers' Grossman Out Saturday With Flu

News: Grossman is dealing with flu-like symptoms and will not play Saturday vs. the Blue Jackets, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Assuming his case of the flu isn't too grave, Grossman will more than likely miss just one contest. Hal Gill steps into the lineup in his stead Saturday.

Flyers' Grossman Blocks Four Shots In Opener Loss

News: Grossman blocked four shots in Wednesday's season-opening loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Grossman missed the last 18 games of the previous season, and the Flyers certainly missed his ability to stymie opposing shooters. While the Flyers figure out how to let fewer shots into the net, Grossman figures to have plenty of opportunities to block shots.

Grossman Flying In Philly Again

News: Grossman (concussion) is minus-1 through four preseason games.
Analysis: The Flyers have a couple of vacancies on the back end at the present time, so Grossman is getting an opportunity to carve out a role for Opening Night.

Flyers' Grossmann (Concussion) To Have Follow-Up Visit

News: Nicklas Grossmann (concussion) will visit with Dr. Micky Collins once again at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on May 6, philly.com reports. While being sidelined, he has been wearing glasses and his balance system has been damaged due to the head trauma.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann hasn't played in a game since Mar. 28. He will continue to recover over the offseason in order to be ready for the 2013-14 season.

Flyers' Grossmann Remains Sidelined

News: Nicklas Grossmann will miss another 2-3 weeks with concussion issues, CSN Philly's Tim Panaccio reports.
Analysis: Such a timetable suggests that Nicklas Grossmann's regular season could be over, especially if the Flyers drop further out of the playoff race over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Flyers' Grossmann Not Practicing Monday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (concussion) was unable to practice Monday, philly.com reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann had been practicing with the team, but the fact that he couldn't participate in Monday's workout does not bode well for his chances of suiting up Tuesday against the Islanders.

Flyers' Grossmann (Upper Body) Doubtful For Tuesday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann has been increasing his ice time during practices of late but remains at least a few more days away from returning to action. The Flyers will likely evaluate Grossmann's progress during practices earlier in the week before determining whether he'll be able to give it a go Thursday against the Senators.

Grossmann Closer To Return For Flyers

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) extended his practice time Wednesday, as reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Analysis: Nicklas Grossmann, who has missed the last six games, was the last player off the ice after Wednesday's practice. Despite the extra work GM Paul Holmgren was quoted as saying, "He's coming along but not enough to change his status." Grossmann's calling card is hits and blocked shots so his absence effects the Flyers much more than fantasy teams.

Flyers' Grossmann Day-To-Day

News: Nicklas Grossmann is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: As a result, Nicklas Grossmann is iffy for Tuesday's game against the Rangers, on the heels of sitting out Sunday's game against the Penguins.

Flyers' Grossmann Out Sunday

News: Nicklas Grossmann (upper body) won't play Sunday against the Penguins, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: With four points in 30 games to date, Nicklas Grossmann hasn't been much of a factor on offense, but he has dished out 81 hits and blocked 82 shots in that span.
