Rangers' Sauer To Start On IR

News: Michael Sauer remains out indefinitely with concussion symptoms and is not even in camp this week, according to the New York Daily News.
Analysis: The team placed Michael Sauer on IR Wednesday. He's not a huge part of the team's plans for the 2013 season, but it's scary injury because he suffered it all the way back in December of 2011.

Rangers' Sauer Unlikely To Be Ready To Start Season

News: Rangers coach John Tortorella said Sunday that Michael Sauer (concussion) "has not responded that well," and that he doesn't believe Sauer will be ready to begin the season, the team's official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: Tortorella even said, "I think it's going to be a little bit of time before [Michael Sauer] resumes his career." The 25-year-old defenseman only appeared in 19 games last season due to concussion symptoms, but he did post a plus-9 ratio in those contests.

Rangers' Sauer Remains Out Monday

News: Michael Sauer (concussion) did not skate Monday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: He suffered a setback prior to the All-Star break and is being brought along very slowly for the time being. Keep him reserved indefinitely given his current distance from a return to the lineup for the Rangers.

Rangers' Sauer (Concussion) Misses Monday's Practice

News: Michael Sauer (concussion) missed practice Monday, the Rangers' official site reports.
Analysis: After skating early last week, Michael Sauer seemed to be making progress in his recovery from a concussion. However, he missed practice over the weekend, did not travel to Boston and now missed practice Monday. Sauer has a ways to go before he can return to action.

Rangers' Sauer Misses Practice Again

News: Michael Sauer, currently on injured reserve with a concussion, did not skate or practice Friday for the second straight day and did not make the road trip with the team to Boston, according to the New York Daily News.
Analysis: There was no morning skate on Saturday so it really made no sense for Michael Sauer to travel with the team, however, after skating Tuesday and participating in a limited practice Wednesday, the concern is whether or not the defenseman had a setback in his recovery. Expect further details after the team's big weekend matchup with the Bruins.

Rangers' Sauer Placed On IR

News: Michael Sauer (concussion) is listed on IR, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The penalty minutes machine (21 in 19 games) will miss at least the next week of games. Until the severity of the concussion is known, it's difficult to tell if he'll just miss the upcoming road trip or a longer period of time.

Rangers' Sauer Won't Travel To Buffalo

News: Michael Sauer (concussion) will not travel with the team Buffalo, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: He won't play Saturday against the Sabres after missing Thursday's game the Lightning. Michael Sauer isn't much of a scorer, but if you're using him for penalty minutes (21 PIM in 19 games) make sure he's out of your lineup Saturday.

Rangers' Sauer Has Concussion, Will Sit Out Thursday

News: Michael Sauer (concussion) will not play Thursday against Tampa Bay because of a confirmed concussion, the Rangers' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: Michael Sauer has been plagued by injuries all season, with his shoulder constantly acting up and now a concussion. Hopefully, the defenseman can get back on the ice soon.

Sauer Returns For Rangers

News: Michael Sauer returned to the lineup Thursday, skating 21:42 after missing almost three weeks with a shoulder injury. He blocked three shots, but recorded no hits, shots or points.
Analysis: Michael Sauer had been out since October 8 with a recurrence of a shoulder injury that had been bothering him in camp. The Rangers are hoping the time off has him back to full strength. Sauer's fantasy potential is quite limited, however.

Analysis: Michael Sauer will be activated from injured reserve and return to the lineup Thursday night, likely at the expense of Jeff Woywitka. Expect him to be part of the Rangers' third defensive pairing.

Rangers' Sauer Practices Wednesday

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) was on the ice for practice with his teammates Wednesday, Katie Strang of ESPN New York reports.
Analysis: This ultimately bodes well for his chances of returning to action Thursday night as reports have previously suggested.

Rangers' Sauer Expected To Play Thursday

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) could return to the lineup as soon as Thursday night against the Maple Leafs, the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: This is excellent news for a team that is also awaiting the return of Marc Staal to shore up a defense that has been carried by the strong play of goalie Henrik Lundqvist thus far.

Rangers' Sauer Will Miss Fifth Straight

News: As expected, Michael Sauer (shoulder) will miss his fifth straight game Monday night against the Jets, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The Rangers are clamoring for the return of two top-four defensemen in Michael Sauer and Marc Staal (concussion) to help settle down and reign in the Rangers' sloppy defensive play. Sauer is listed as day-to-day and is expected back soon.

Rangers' Sauer (Shoulder) Returns To Practice Monday

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) returned to practice Monday, but he isn't ready to return to game action, the Rangers' official site reports.

Rangers Uncertain About Sauer

News: The Rangers' recall of defensemen Brandan Bell is an indicator of an uncertain timetable for Michael Sauer's (shoulder) return, according to the NY Post.
Analysis: The Rangers had hoped a week of rest and shoulder strengthening would get Michael Sauer back into the lineup. With the recall of Bell, as the Rangers depart on a four-game western road trip, there doesn't look to be an immediate return in sight. Sauer himself has little fantasy value, but the continued long-term absence of him and fellow top four defenseman Marc Staal from the roster has to make some Henrik Lundqvist owners uncomfortable.

Rangers' Sauer (Shoulder) Won't Play Saturday

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) will not play Saturday against the Islanders, the Rangers' official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: Head coach John Tortorella is reportedly not concerned about Michael Sauer's long-term health. This is good news considering Sauer's initial return from the shoulder injury was short-lived. Sauer only missed six games last season.

Rangers' Sits Out Practice Again Friday

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) did not practice Friday, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Michael Sauer has not practiced since the Rangers returned from Europe last weekend. He was able to play in the first two games, but his availability for Saturday's game against the Islanders is in question. If Sauer is unable to go, Jeff Woywitka is expected to make his Rangers debut in his place.

Rangers' Sauer Sits Out Practice Wednesday

News: Michael Sauer was held out of practice Wednesday to rest his sore shoulder, according to the Rangers' official Twitter page.
Analysis: The Rangers are off until Saturday, so they decided to give Michael Sauer a couple days to rest this week. He has yet to miss a game this year, so it would appear likely that he suits up Saturday despite the mid-week break.

Rangers' Sauer Returns to Practice

News: Michael Sauer practiced Wednesday for the first time since injuring his shoulder 10 days ago, NHL.com reports.

Rangers' Sauer: (Shoulder) Improves To Day-to-Day

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) is improving but is still day-to-day, Newsday reports.
Analysis: His goal of playing in one of the last two preseason games is starting to look more realistic. Michael Sauer's return will be much-needed for the Rangers, who may be without their top defenseman in Marc Stall to begin the 2011 season.

Rangers' Sauer Hopes To Play Again In Preseason

News: Michael Sauer (shoulder) skated with the game scratches and worked with coaches Friday. He said his goal is to play in one of the last two preseason games, though he couldn't say for sure yet, according to Dan Rosen of NHL.com.
Analysis: This is certainly encouraging news as the Rangers' defense has been banged up a bit this preseason. Michael Sauer's return would do a lot for a defense still unsure if they'll have their top defenseman in Marc Staal to start the season.

News: Michael Sauer suffered a sprained right shoulder in Monday's exhibition game and will be out about a week, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Michael Sauer suffered the injury when he fell into the boards after being hit from behind. He should still be ready for the regular season opener as long as his recovery goes as planned.
