Detroit's Helm To Move To Wing

News: Darren Helm has been moved from center to wing in an effort to ease the Red Wings' logjam down the middle, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: After the Red Wings could barely find four healthy centers on several occasions last season, the team now improbably has a glut at the position, with all of Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss and Joakim Andersson progressing well from their respective injuries that cost them large portions of the 2013-14 campaign. As a result, Darren Helm will be the odd man out, but he still has the speed, size (5-foot-11, 192 pounds) and requisite toughness to find a niche on the outside. Helm, who has been limited to 44 games over the past two seasons due to his own injury issues, would likely slot in on either the third or fourth line, minimizing his scoring chances.

Wings' Helm Notches Assist

News: Darren Helm registered his first playoff point in three years Sunday with an assist in a 4-1 Game 2 loss to Boston.
Analysis: Darren Helm missed the previous two playoffs with injury, but seems to be back to full speed at this point. If the Wings are to pull a big upset against the Bruins, Helm may need to be an X-factor.

Wings' Helm Picks Up Assist

News: Darren Helm dished out an assist in a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Analysis: Darren Helm finally appears to be at 100 percent, as he is burning up the ice right now. He has eight points (five goals) in his last eight games and is peaking exactly at the right time for the Red Wings.

Wings' Helm Nets Hattie

News: Darren Helm notched a hat trick in Detroit's 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday night. He has four points in his last two games.
Analysis: Speed burns and that's exactly what Darren Helm did -- he torched the Leafs' playoff chances. His first goal was a shortie; he also scored on a breakaway. His fantasy upside is limited, but he may be able to provide a little burst in deeper formats.

Wings' Helm (Concussion) Likely To Play Sunday

News: Darren Helm will likely play for the second straight night in Sunday's contest, MLive.com's Brendan Savage reports. "Everything felt good last night and this morning," Helm said. "I had a good warmup and I feel good. I was happy yesterday and how everything went, especially with this back-to-back today."
Analysis: Darren Helm will start in games on back-to-back days following his first action on Saturday since Mar. 4. Since everything went well for him on Saturday, he has decided to give it ago again on Sunday. His ice time will likely increase going forward as he builds up his stamina.

Detroit's Helm Questionable For Sunday

News: Darren Helm (concussion) had two shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over Minnesota but may get the day of Sunday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock wants Darren Helm to be healthy down the stretch, so he may give Helm the second half of the back-to-back off. Even when healthy, Helm only has one point in his last 14 games, however.

Red Wings' Helm Rejoins Lineup

News: Darren Helm (concussion) will be back in the lineup Saturday vs. the Wild, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm will be playing for the first time since Mar. 4 following a recurrence of the concussion symptoms that plagued him earlier this season. Prior to missing his second stretch of action on the season, Helm tallied only one point in his last 13 games.

Wings' Helm (Concussion) Game-Time Decision

News: Updating a previous report, Darren Helm will be a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against the Wild, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm believes he'll be ready to play, but the team will wait and see how he feels during pre-game warmups before making an official decision. Regardless, he should be set to return to action regularly soon.

Wings' Helm (Concussion) To Play Saturday

News: Darren Helm (concussion) will play in Saturday's contest against Minnesota, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm has been dealing with concussion symptoms since early March, but looks to be set for a return. Helm had produced 12 points, with seven goals on 53 shots, before taking a seat earlier this month.

Another Setback For Red Wings' Helm

News: Darren Helm (concussion) has hit a setback in his recovery and likely won't be available anytime soon, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock indicated before the weekend that the Red Wings were planning on welcoming Darren Helm back to the lineup during the coming week, but things evidently went sour for the forward shortly after Babcock's pronouncement. Helm was unable to practice Saturday and it remains to be seen when he'll be able to take the ice with his teammates.

Detroit's Helm Hopes To Return Tuesday

News: Detroit coach Mike Babcock said after Friday's win he hopes to have Darren Helm (concussion) back for Tuesday's home game against Toronto.
Analysis: Darren Helm hasn't played in the month of March, and the Red Wings could really use his speed back in the lineup. Concussions are tricky, however, so wait to make any moves until Helm is solidly back in the lineup.

Red Wings' Helm Skates Thursday

News: Darren Helm (head) skated with fellow injured forwards Stephen Weiss and Mikael Samuelsson before Thursday's practice, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Until Darren Helm joins his healthy teammates for a full practice, he shouldn't be viewed as close to getting back in the lineup. He's missed the past four games with concussion symptoms.

Red Wings' Helm Out At Leat Another Week

News: Darren Helm will be out at least another week due to concussion-like symptoms, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm was able to play in a game earlier this week before departing in the second period, but he said he has been dealing with concussion symptoms since last Thursday, when he hit his head on the ice against the Senators. Helm will miss at least the Red Wings' next three games, and it's possible he could still end up on injured reserve if his symptoms linger longer than expected.

Red Wings' Helm (Head) To Miss A Few Games

News: Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Wednesday that Darren Helm is experiencing headaches and will be out for at least a few days, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Given that the headaches would seem to signal that Darren Helm more than likely has a concussion, it's probably safe to assume he'll be out longer than Holland is suggesting at the moment. The team will continue to evaluate him over the next couple of days with the hope that he shows signs of improvement, but fantasy owners probably shouldn't hold their breath and given his modest production (seven points, five assists) over 29 games this season.

Red Wings' Helm To Sit Thursday

News: Darren Helm (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Avalanche, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: After Darren Helm was unable to practice Wednesday, the team determined that allowing him to rest up for at least one game was the best option. Cody Emmerton has already been recalled from AHL Grand Rapids to take Helm's spot in the lineup.

Detroit's Helm Misses Practice Wednesday

News: Darren Helm wasn't at practice Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's game with an upper body injury, the Red Wings' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm has been in and out of the lineup all season and is struggling with yet another injury. The Red Wings have to hope Helm isn't out long, as they can't afford any more injuries to their forwards.

Detroit's Helm Leaves Early Tuesday

News: Darren Helm departed Tuesday's game against the Devils after the second period with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: The Red Wings' injured forward list has reached comical proportions at this point in the season, with Darren Helm the latest to go down. He'll be reassessed after the game with the hope he won't have to miss future action because of the injury.

Detroit's Helm Snaps Point Drought

News: Darren Helm scored for the first time in 2014 with an assist in Thursday's 3-1 victory against the Islanders.
Analysis: Darren Helm hasn't looked completely back since returning from injury Jan. 20, but perhaps he's getting his legs back. The Olympic break should be a good rest for the speedy center.

Wings' Helm To Return Monday

News: Darren Helm (groin) is expected to return to play in Monday's game against the Blues, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm has missed over two weeks of games with the groin injury and will be activated from injured reserve prior to Monday's game. He should return and bring his usual speed to the lineup immediately for the Red Wings on Monday.

Red Wings' Helm Returned To IR

News: Darren Helm (groin) was placed back on injured reserve Tuesday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Because Darren Helm had not played in a game for over a week after being activated from injured reserve, this latest trip to IR won't affect the eligibility of his return. His removal from the active roster clears the way for Tomas Jurco to join the lineup in place of Tomas Tatar, who will be away from the team Thursday for personal reasons. Helm has already been ruled out for Thursday, and it's not certain when he might be back.

Wings' Helm Rules Himself Out For Thursday

News: Darren Helm (groin) said he's not feeling well enough to play Thursday against the Rangers, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The team has held off on deactivating Darren Helm to this point, but may be forced to make a roster move after Pavel Datsyuk (groin) left Tuesday's morning skate early. Helm described himself as day-to-day, but since he has not played since Dec. 30, a trip to IR could be backdated and thus would not affect his eligibility for a return.

Wings' Helm Will Not Play Saturday

News: Darren Helm (groin) will not return to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Kings, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm will not make his return to the ice Saturday for the Red Wings, who are also without Pavel Datsyuk to a groin injury as well. The Red Wings turn around and play Sunday as well, so he will be evaluated prior to that game for Detroit.

Wings' Helm Out Again Thursday

News: Darren Helm (groin) will not play Thursday against the Sharks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The speedy center has been sidelined since Dec. 30 with the groin injury, but has been plagued much of the last two seasons with shoulder and back injuries as well. He's been productive in his 16 appearances this season, registering seven goals and four assists, but his value is severely diminished due to his inability to stay healthy.

Wings' Helm A Game-Time Call Thursday

News: Darren Helm (groin) will be a game-time decision Thursday against the Sharks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: In his first game back after missing most of December with a shoulder injury, Darren Helm emerged with a groin issue. The team will wait until after pregame warmups to decide on Helm's availability against San Jose, but with Pavel Datsyuk (groin) ruled out, they'll likely push to get Helm on the ice.

Wings' Helm Hopes To Play Thursday

News: Darren Helm (groin) is targeting a return to the lineup Thursday vs. the Sharks, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm's presence in the lineup will be contingent on how he performs while skating over the next two morning sessions for the Red Wings. The forward has missed the last two games with the groin injury.
