Helm Helps Out In Wings' Game 1 Win

News: Darren Helm assisted on both of Pavel Datsyuk's goals -- one on the power play -- in Thursday's Game 1 victory over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: He's skating with Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg right now, and after Darren Helm finished the regular season on a four-game point streak and opened the playoffs with this fine effort, it looks like he could retain that line assignment throughout Detroit's postseason run.

Wings' Helm Practices Tuesday

News: Darren Helm (illness) practiced Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm did not participate in Monday's practice, but his return to the ice Tuesday puts him in line to suit for Thursday's playoff opener against the Lightning.

Detroit's Helm Misses Practice Monday

News: Darren Helm (illness) did not participate in Monday's practice, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: The sickness isn't expected to keep Darren Helm out of Thursday's Game 1, but it's something worth keeping an eye on. He's been a valuable second-line center for the Red Wings, and ended the season on a four-game point streak. Detroit needs his speed in the lineup.

Wings' Helm Ends Slump In Loss

News: Darren Helm scored the team's lone goal -- a power-play tally -- in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: The point was Darren Helm's first since Feb. 21, snapping a 14 game stretch without a point. Despite the slump, the 28-year-old hit the 30-point plateau for just the second time in his career and needs just two points in the team's final three contests to match his career-high output of 32, but he remains on the fringe of fantasy relevance.

Wings' Helm Returns To Lineup

News: Darren Helm registered a plus-1 with a shot on goal in 15 minutes of ice time Thursday.
Analysis: Darren Helm had missed the previous seven games with an oblique injury. It didn't seem to hamper him much on Thursday, but he still is borderline fantasy-relevant, with 29 points in 62 games.

Red Wings' Helm In Line To Play

News: Darren Helm (oblique) will return to the Red Wings' lineup Thursday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Darren Helm has been practicing for the last several days and should be ready to go in what will be his first game in almost three weeks. The winger is expected to slot in on the second line with Tomas Tatar and Riley Sheahan.

Red Wings' Helm Expected Back Thursday

News: Darren Helm (oblique) hasn't been cleared yet but is expected to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's game against the Panthers, Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm returned to practice Friday, giving him nearly a full week to get ready for Thursday's game. The Red Wings were hoping to have him back for Sunday's win over the Penguins, but Helm apparently needed a few extra days. He last played in a game Feb. 28.

Red Wings' Helm Won't Play Saturday

News: Darren Helm (oblique) will not play Saturday against he Flyers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm took part in his first full practice Friday since sustaining the oblique injury, but the Red Wings want him to get at least one more skate in with the team before signing off on his return to action. He'll take to the ice again Saturday morning, and if all goes according to plan, Helm could be ready to go for Sunday's showdown with the Penguins.

Wings' Helm Practices On Fourth Line

News: Darren Helm (oblique) practiced fully Friday on a line with Drew Miller and Joakim Andersson, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: It looks like Darren Helm should be back in the lineup Saturday against Philadelphia, but Saturday's practice should be the final indicator. He has not played in the month of March yet.

Red Wings' Helm Back At Practice

News: Darren Helm (oblique) was a participant in Wednesday's practice, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm left practice about halfway through, so he'll be forced to sit out another game Thursday against the Blue Jackets. However, it appears the Red Wings are still eyeing the weekend for Helm's return, assuming his condition improves as anticipated over the next couple of days.

Wings' Helm (Oblique) Expected Out Until Weekend

News: Darren Helm (oblique) is expected to be out until at least the weekend, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm has skated on his own but has yet to rejoin the team at practice. He will remain sidelined until that happens, and it sounds as though it could still be a little ways off. It appears Saturday against the Flyers would be the earliest return date for the winger.

Detroit's Helm (Oblique) Skating Again

News: Darren Helm (oblique) skated briefly by himself before Saturday's practice, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm didn't do much at practice, but his presence on the ice amounts to a positive sign. He's got an outside chance of playing Monday, but Thursday's game versus Columbus is looking like a more realistic return date if all goes well.

Wings' Helm Dealing With Oblique Injury

News: Darren Helm is dealing with an oblique strain, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Per the report, GM Ken Holland indicated that Darren Helm's injury is not considered serious, but it looks like the forward will be out a week or so.

Wings' Helm Could Miss Some Time

News: GM Ken Holland suggested Sunday that it appears as though Darren Helm (upper body) will be "out for a bit of time," mlive.com reports.
Analysis: With that in mind, Darren Helm is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday, with a timetable thus presumably on tap afterward. While the forward's ailment has yet to be specified, the report confirms that it's not a head injury.

Detroit's Helm Has MRI on Tap

News: Darren Helm is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday to evaluate an upper-body injury that he sustained Saturday, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Though the nature of Darren Helm's issue has yet to be specified, the report notes that it is not a head injury. The forward's status for Wednesday's game against the Rangers is thus cloudy for the time being.

Red Wings' Helm Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Darren Helm suffered an upper-body injury in the first period of Saturday's game against the Predators and will not return, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm logged only 2:41 of ice time over five shifts before departing with the injury. Staying healthy has been a problem for Helm in the previous three seasons, but he's skated in all 61 games for the Red Wings in 2014-15, producing 13 goals, 29 points, and a plus-8 rating. Helm could be at risk of missing his first game Wednesday against the Rangers if he fails to notice much improvement with his condition over the next few days.

Wings' Helm Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Darren Helm collected a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The speedy center was dangerous all night, and almost won the game in overtime after stealing the puck from Michal Rozsival at the Red Wings blue line. He now has 13 goals and 15 assists in 56 games on the year, and has proven to be a productive fantasy forward now that he's finally staying healthy.

Detroit's Helm: Six Points In Last Six Games

News: Darren Helm scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's shootout loss to the Jets. He has six points, including four goals, in his last six games.
Analysis: His 26 points put him within six of tying his career best and his 12 goals equal his best ever (in the NHL, at least). He's a solid roll in deep formats right now.

Red Wings' Helm Tallies Two Points

News: Darren Helm notched a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Darren Helm's goal was an empty netter and marked the game's third score in the final three minutes. It gave the forward his fourth multi-point game of the season, and his third goal in four contests.

Wings' Helm Scores Lone Detroit Goal

News: Darren Helm lit the lamp in a 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Analysis: Darren Helm will score intermittently, with 20 points in 48 games, but often goes through stretches like the five-game scoreless streak he carried into Thursday. He has settled into his role as a bottom-six center, however, and does more for the Wings than shows up on the stat sheet.

Wings' Helm Scores Shorthanded In Win

News: Darren Helm kicked off the Red Wings' scoring with a shorthanded goal Tuesday against the Sabres.
Analysis: It's the second special teams goal and eighth overall tally of the season for Darren Helm, who has compiled 20 points in 43 games. That production doesn't warrant a lineup spot in most leagues, but he represents a quality depth forward for the Red Wings.

Wings' Helm Nets Two In Win

News: Darren Helm scored twice in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Devils. He fired six shots on net.
Analysis: The goals are his first in 11 games and he has just three points in his last 10 games. He isn't particularly consistent and that means his fantasy value is restricted to the very deepest of leagues. There's just too much risk otherwise.

Wings' Helm Notches Assist In Loss

News: Darren Helm recorded an assist Friday in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Darren Helm snapped a four-game point drought with the helper. Helm hadn't lit the world on fire with 16 points in 33 games, but he has provided a great presence on the third line, and most importantly, has played in every game this season.

Wings' Helm Attracting Attention With His Offense

News: Darren Helm broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period of Saturday's game with a wrist shot that fooled Rangers' goalie Cam Talbot.
Analysis: He now has three goals in his last two games and seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last seven. Check your wire -- there's real value in his guy.

Two-Goal Night For Wings' Helm

News: Darren Helm scored a pair of goals on four shots and went plus-2 with three hits Thursday in a 5-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: He was named the game's first star. Darren Helm skated a season-high 19:43 on Thursday, well above his average of 13 or so minutes per game; that bears watching, but Helm isn't a superb offensive talent who can be expected to produce points consistently with heavy minutes.
