Red Wings' Helm Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Darren Helm suffered an upper-body injury in the first period of Saturday's game against the Predators and will not return, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm logged only 2:41 of ice time over five shifts before departing with the injury. Staying healthy has been a problem for Helm in the previous three seasons, but he's skated in all 61 games for the Red Wings in 2014-15, producing 13 goals, 29 points, and a plus-8 rating. Helm could be at risk of missing his first game Wednesday against the Rangers if he fails to notice much improvement with his condition over the next few days.

Wings' Helm Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Darren Helm collected a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: The speedy center was dangerous all night, and almost won the game in overtime after stealing the puck from Michal Rozsival at the Red Wings blue line. He now has 13 goals and 15 assists in 56 games on the year, and has proven to be a productive fantasy forward now that he's finally staying healthy.

Detroit's Helm: Six Points In Last Six Games

News: Darren Helm scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's shootout loss to the Jets. He has six points, including four goals, in his last six games.
Analysis: His 26 points put him within six of tying his career best and his 12 goals equal his best ever (in the NHL, at least). He's a solid roll in deep formats right now.

Red Wings' Helm Tallies Two Points

News: Darren Helm notched a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Darren Helm's goal was an empty netter and marked the game's third score in the final three minutes. It gave the forward his fourth multi-point game of the season, and his third goal in four contests.

Wings' Helm Scores Lone Detroit Goal

News: Darren Helm lit the lamp in a 5-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Analysis: Darren Helm will score intermittently, with 20 points in 48 games, but often goes through stretches like the five-game scoreless streak he carried into Thursday. He has settled into his role as a bottom-six center, however, and does more for the Wings than shows up on the stat sheet.

Wings' Helm Scores Shorthanded In Win

News: Darren Helm kicked off the Red Wings' scoring with a shorthanded goal Tuesday against the Sabres.
Analysis: It's the second special teams goal and eighth overall tally of the season for Darren Helm, who has compiled 20 points in 43 games. That production doesn't warrant a lineup spot in most leagues, but he represents a quality depth forward for the Red Wings.

Wings' Helm Nets Two In Win

News: Darren Helm scored twice in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Devils. He fired six shots on net.
Analysis: The goals are his first in 11 games and he has just three points in his last 10 games. He isn't particularly consistent and that means his fantasy value is restricted to the very deepest of leagues. There's just too much risk otherwise.

Wings' Helm Notches Assist In Loss

News: Darren Helm recorded an assist Friday in a 2-1 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Darren Helm snapped a four-game point drought with the helper. Helm hadn't lit the world on fire with 16 points in 33 games, but he has provided a great presence on the third line, and most importantly, has played in every game this season.

Wings' Helm Attracting Attention With His Offense

News: Darren Helm broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period of Saturday's game with a wrist shot that fooled Rangers' goalie Cam Talbot.
Analysis: He now has three goals in his last two games and seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last seven. Check your wire -- there's real value in his guy.

Two-Goal Night For Wings' Helm

News: Darren Helm scored a pair of goals on four shots and went plus-2 with three hits Thursday in a 5-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: He was named the game's first star. Darren Helm skated a season-high 19:43 on Thursday, well above his average of 13 or so minutes per game; that bears watching, but Helm isn't a superb offensive talent who can be expected to produce points consistently with heavy minutes.

Wings' Helm Assists Twice In Victory

News: Darren Helm collected two helpers in Wednesday's victory over the Flyers.
Analysis: The all-center line of Darren Helm, Pavel Datsyuk and Stephen Weiss powered the Detroit offense Wednesday, as all three players gathered at least two points. Those accomplishments should be enough for coach Mike Babcock to keep that trio together for at least one more game, which could prove quite fruitful for Helm. He's bounced back from a season marred by injury to produce two goals and eight assists over 22 games.

Wings' Helm Lights Lamp Tuesday

News: Darren Helm picked up a goal with only a minute left in Tuesday's 5-0 shutout of Columbus.
Analysis: Darren Helm has increased his production as of late, with three points in five games. Most importantly, he has played in every game this season, something he hasn't been able to do since 2010-11.

Wings' Helm Adds Helper In Win

News: Darren Helm picked up an assist in Friday's 4-2 victory over the Devils.
Analysis: Darren Helm has scored points in bursts this season, as he is still searching for his first goal but has six assists in 14 games. He doesn't have a ton of fantasy value, but is a valuable asset to the Red Wings when healthy.

Detroits' Helm Tallies Assist In Loss

News: Darren Helm registered an assist in a 4-2 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.
Analysis: Darren Helm now has an assist in each of his last two games. He's getting a middling amount of ice time -- anywhere between 12 to 15 minutes a night -- but is staying healthy and producing a decent amount of offense. He is yet to score a goal, but does have four helpers in eight games.

Wings' Helm Seeing Power Play Time

News: Darren Helm spent a decent amount of time on the power play in Thursday's win and appears 100 percent healthy, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm is immensely talented and fast, but he has not been able to stay healthy for the past three seasons. If he could ever put together a full season, he'd have a little bit of fantasy value, but that's a big risk to take.

Red Wings' Helm To Return Soon

News: Darren Helm (groin) is planning to play in one of the Red Wings' two remaining preseason games, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm has not played since since the Red Wings' Sept. 22 preseason opener, but he is on track to return to action before the regular season begins, so it seems likely be will be available for Opening Night.

Wings' Helm Recovering

News: Darren Helm (groin) hopes to play in Wednesday's preseason game, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm is also dealing with a recently broken nose, but was on the ice skating Monday, and hopes to be available Wednesday. The speedy winger battled through injuries last season too, recording 12 goals and eight assists in just 42 games.

Wings' Helm Leaves Practice Early Thursday

News: Darren Helm (broken nose) didn't make it through the Red Wings' full practice Thursday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Although coach Mike Babcock presumed that Darren Helm would be sufficiently recovered by Thursday from the broken nose he sustained three days earlier, the veteran forward may need an extra day or two to get over the issue. The Red Wings are still treating him as if he's day-to-day, but the injury doesn't sound like something that will keep him out of commission for much longer.

Wings' Helm Breaks Nose Monday

News: Darren Helm took a stick to the face and suffered a broken nose in Monday's preseason tilt, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Darren Helm isn't expected to miss any regular season time, but this is just another setback for the oft-injured winger. Hopefully this will not affect his game heading into the season.

Detroit's Helm To Move To Wing

News: Darren Helm has been moved from center to wing in an effort to ease the Red Wings' logjam down the middle, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: After the Red Wings could barely find four healthy centers on several occasions last season, the team now improbably has a glut at the position, with all of Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Stephen Weiss and Joakim Andersson progressing well from their respective injuries that cost them large portions of the 2013-14 campaign. As a result, Darren Helm will be the odd man out, but he still has the speed, size (5-foot-11, 192 pounds) and requisite toughness to find a niche on the outside. Helm, who has been limited to 44 games over the past two seasons due to his own injury issues, would likely slot in on either the third or fourth line, minimizing his scoring chances.

Wings' Helm Notches Assist

News: Darren Helm registered his first playoff point in three years Sunday with an assist in a 4-1 Game 2 loss to Boston.
Analysis: Darren Helm missed the previous two playoffs with injury, but seems to be back to full speed at this point. If the Wings are to pull a big upset against the Bruins, Helm may need to be an X-factor.

Wings' Helm Picks Up Assist

News: Darren Helm dished out an assist in a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
Analysis: Darren Helm finally appears to be at 100 percent, as he is burning up the ice right now. He has eight points (five goals) in his last eight games and is peaking exactly at the right time for the Red Wings.

Wings' Helm Nets Hattie

News: Darren Helm notched a hat trick in Detroit's 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday night. He has four points in his last two games.
Analysis: Speed burns and that's exactly what Darren Helm did -- he torched the Leafs' playoff chances. His first goal was a shortie; he also scored on a breakaway. His fantasy upside is limited, but he may be able to provide a little burst in deeper formats.

Wings' Helm (Concussion) Likely To Play Sunday

News: Darren Helm will likely play for the second straight night in Sunday's contest, MLive.com's Brendan Savage reports. "Everything felt good last night and this morning," Helm said. "I had a good warmup and I feel good. I was happy yesterday and how everything went, especially with this back-to-back today."
Analysis: Darren Helm will start in games on back-to-back days following his first action on Saturday since Mar. 4. Since everything went well for him on Saturday, he has decided to give it ago again on Sunday. His ice time will likely increase going forward as he builds up his stamina.

Detroit's Helm Questionable For Sunday

News: Darren Helm (concussion) had two shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over Minnesota but may get the day of Sunday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock wants Darren Helm to be healthy down the stretch, so he may give Helm the second half of the back-to-back off. Even when healthy, Helm only has one point in his last 14 games, however.
