Wings' Howard Gets Shutout, But Loses

News: Jimmy Howard stopped all 29 shots he faced through regulation and overtime Tuesday against Columbus, but was beaten twice in the shootout to end up with a loss.
Analysis: That's the third consecutive shootout loss for Jimmy Howard, who's only given up three regulation goals in that span. Howard has more overtime losses (seven) than regulation losses (five), so just imagine how good the Wings' record would be if they played better after 60 minutes.

Red Wings To Start Howard On Tuesday

News: Jimmy Howard will be back in the crease Tuesday against the Blue Jackets, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: After suffering shootout losses in each of his last two turns, Jimmy Howard was rested for the second game of the Red Wings' back-to-back over the weekend in favor of backup Petr Mrazek. Despite an inability to come away with victories of late, Howard's play hasn't seemed to deteriorate in December. He owns a 2.15 GAA and .915 save percentage in his five starts this month.

Wings' Howard Falls To Panthers In Shootout

News: Jimmy Howard turned aside 24 of 26 pucks Friday against the Panthers, but took a shootout loss after allowing goals to both shooters.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has been snakebitten in the breakaway contest this year, going 0-5. The good news is, he's more than made up for the bad luck in the shootout with a lovely 13-5-6 record, 2.14 GAA and .918 save percentage. With the Wings ripping up the Atlantic Division with 41 points and a share of the top spot with Tampa Bay, Howard figures to be an excellent source of wins for fantasy owners going forward.

Red Wings To Start Howard On Friday

News: Jimmy Howard will man the net Friday against the Panthers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: That more than likely leaves Saturday's game in Toronto for backup Petr Mrazek, though coach Mike Babcock could reconsider that plan if Jimmy Howard sees light activity Friday. That's not out of the question for a Florida squad that ranks 27th in the league in goals per game, making Howard an ideal play Friday night, as has most often been the case this season.

Wings' Howard Allows One In Loss

News: Jimmy Howard stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in Wednesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard played well, and it's a shame he wasn't able to pick up the win, considering his team outshot Toronto 42-19 on the night. James Reimer was excellent on the other end of the ice, though, so Howard's record now stands at 13-5-5 on the season.

Wings' Howard In Net On Wednesday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in net against Toronto on Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has won five of six games and has returned to being one of the premier fantasy goalies in the NHL again. He should make for a strong option against a Leafs squad that may be fatigued after Tuesday's win over the Flames.

Wings' Howard Gets Fifth Win In Six Games

News: Jimmy Howard settled down after allowing two first-period goals to make 27 stops and pick up a 3-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday.
Analysis: While Jimmy Howard isn't playing spectacular as of late, his offense has been picking him up and he continues to be a dynamite fantasy presence. He now has 13 wins and a 2.21 goals against average and has helped lead Detroit to a 16-6-5 start.

Howard Makes 22 Stops As Wings Roll Over Dallas

News: Jimmy Howard stopped 22 of 24 shots in Thursday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: After suffering a loss Tuesday against Florida, Jimmy Howard got right back at it with his fourth win in five starts. He hasn't been dominant this year, but he's been better than he was last season, and that's been good enough.

Wings To Start Howard Saturday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in goal Saturday against the Rangers, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has won four of his last five starts, but he's been riding the wave of a hot offense more so than creating his own successes. The Red Wings have supported him with at least three goals in each of those five turns, with Howard stopping only 124-of-138 shots (.898 save percentage) during that span.

Red Wings' Howard Gets The Nod Thursday

News: Jimmy Howard will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Stars, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard will look to get back in the win column after seeing a three-game winning streak come to an end his last time out. He will take on a streaky Dallas team that has sandwiched three-game losing streaks around a three-game winning streak over its last nine games.

Red Wings' Howard Suffers Loss Tuesday

News: Jimmy Howard yielded four goals on 31 shots to drop Tuesday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard wasn't on point in this one, squandering a strong performance by his offense, who put up three goals on 41 shots on Florida goalie Roberto Luongo. While Howard previously won his last three games, he hasn't performed well lately. Tuesday's loss marked the third time in five games he posted a save percentage below .900.

Red Wings' Howard Gets Tuesday Nod

News: Jimmy Howard will start Tuesday's game against the Panthers, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard was not as sharp in November as he was in October, but he did win his final three starts of the month, and will look to get off to a good start in December against a Florida team that topped two goals just once in its last seven games.

Wings' Howard Stops 30 In Win

News: Jimmy Howard made 30 saves in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard's now won three in a row to bring his record to 11-4-4. His GAA sits at 2.13 with a .919 save percentage and with the Wings off to a strong start, the wins should continue to come.

Wings' Howard To Start Sunday

News: Jimmy Howard will start Sunday's game against the Canucks, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard's matchup with Vancouver is not ideal. The Canucks are one of the league's best offensive clubs, averaging 3.04 goals per game, good for fourth best in the NHL. However, Howard has been one of the top goaltenders in the league this season, going 10-4-4 with a 2.09 GAA in 18 games.

Wings' Howard Stops 22 In Win

News: Jimmy Howard allowed two goals on 24 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard was impressive once again, improving his record to 10-4-4 in 18 games on the season. His 2.09 GAA is fourth best in the league at this point, and he'll continue to get the majority of the starts as long as he stays healthy.

Red Wings' Howard To Start Wednesday

News: Jimmy Howard will start Wednesday's game against the Flyers, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Another Win For Wings' Howard

News: Despite allowing three goals on 26 shots, Jimmy Howard came away with his ninth win of the year in Monday's 4-3 win over the visiting Senators.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard's ninth victory puts him in a six-way tie for ninth most in the league through the season's first quarter. He's posted ratios (2.09 GAA, .920 save percentage) that are slightly better than his career marks (2.40 GAA, .917 save percentage) and he should be able to keep piling up the wins as long as Detroit's big offensive guns stay healthy and productive.

Wings' Howard Will Start Monday

News: Jimmy Howard will start between the pipes Monday against the Senators, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard will get the call again after allowing three goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday. He's currently 8-4-4 on the season with a .922 save percentage and a 2.03 GAA.

Wings' Howard Folds On Saturday

News: Jimmy Howard surrendered three goals on 27 shot attempts in Saturday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: A couple of egregious turnovers by his defense proved costly to Jimmy Howard, who saw his record dip to 8-4-4 with the defeat. The netminder probably deserves some leeway for the poor outing, as he's otherwise been dazzling with a 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage over 16 outings.

Wings Going With Howard On Saturday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in the crease Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard was rested Thursday in favor of youngster Petr Mrazek, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that he'll step back into the net Saturday. He's played like one of the very best netminders in the league this season, ranking in the league's top 10 in both GAA (1.97) and save percentage (.924).

Wings' Howard Notches Season's First Blanking

News: Jimmy Howard picked up his first shutout of the year Tuesday, stopping all 28 in a 5-0 domination of the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Although he's hit some patches of inconsistency in November, Jimmy Howard's continued to put out strong fantasy stats. He bounced back nicely on Tuesday, pushing his season GAA back under 2.00 after Sunday's four-goal outing had sent it over.

Wings' Howard Will Start Tuesday

Wings' Howard Struggles In Loss

News: Jimmy Howard allowed four goals on just 19 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: Though it wasn't his best performance, and statistically it was his worst of the season, it wasn't as bad as it seemed as unfortunate bounces led directly to two of the goals. Another goal came from a shot behind the net to cap an odd night between the pipes for Jimmy Howard, but he's been great so far this season, so he'll just have to put this one behind him.

Wings' Howard In Net Sunday

News: Jimmy Howard will start in goal against the Canadiens on Sunday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced Friday against the Blackhawks, and will look for another solid performance against the Habs. He is expected to face Dustin Tokarski on Sunday, which could give him the edge in net. He carries a 7-2-4 record with a 1.96 GAA and a .926 save percentage into his 14th start of the season Sunday.

Wings' Howard Wins Friday

News: Jimmy Howard thwarted 25 of 26 shots in a 4-1 win over the visiting Blackhawks on Friday.
Analysis: Corey Crawford played well on the opposite end of the rink with 33 saves of his own, but a 20-shot outburst in the second period that equated to a pair of goals by the Red Wings were all Jimmy Howard needed to earn his seventh win of the season. In 13 games so far, he owns a 7-2-4 record with a 1.96 GAA and .926 save percentage, and he'll continue to be counted on by the Red Wings as their bonafide No. 1 netminder as the season rolls on.
