Wings' Howard Stops 22 In Win

News: Jimmy Howard allowed two goals on 24 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard was impressive once again, improving his record to 10-4-4 in 18 games on the season. His 2.09 GAA is fourth best in the league at this point, and he'll continue to get the majority of the starts as long as he stays healthy.

Red Wings' Howard To Start Wednesday

News: Jimmy Howard will start Wednesday's game against the Flyers, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard and the Red Wings will square off against a Flyers team that went 1-4-1 and averaged just two goals per contest over its last six games.

Another Win For Wings' Howard

News: Despite allowing three goals on 26 shots, Jimmy Howard came away with his ninth win of the year in Monday's 4-3 win over the visiting Senators.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard's ninth victory puts him in a six-way tie for ninth most in the league through the season's first quarter. He's posted ratios (2.09 GAA, .920 save percentage) that are slightly better than his career marks (2.40 GAA, .917 save percentage) and he should be able to keep piling up the wins as long as Detroit's big offensive guns stay healthy and productive.

Wings' Howard Will Start Monday

News: Jimmy Howard will start between the pipes Monday against the Senators, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard will get the call again after allowing three goals on 27 shots in a loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday. He's currently 8-4-4 on the season with a .922 save percentage and a 2.03 GAA.

Wings' Howard Folds On Saturday

News: Jimmy Howard surrendered three goals on 27 shot attempts in Saturday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: A couple of egregious turnovers by his defense proved costly to Jimmy Howard, who saw his record dip to 8-4-4 with the defeat. The netminder probably deserves some leeway for the poor outing, as he's otherwise been dazzling with a 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage over 16 outings.

Wings Going With Howard On Saturday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in the crease Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard was rested Thursday in favor of youngster Petr Mrazek, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that he'll step back into the net Saturday. He's played like one of the very best netminders in the league this season, ranking in the league's top 10 in both GAA (1.97) and save percentage (.924).

Wings' Howard Notches Season's First Blanking

News: Jimmy Howard picked up his first shutout of the year Tuesday, stopping all 28 in a 5-0 domination of the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Although he's hit some patches of inconsistency in November, Jimmy Howard's continued to put out strong fantasy stats. He bounced back nicely on Tuesday, pushing his season GAA back under 2.00 after Sunday's four-goal outing had sent it over.

Wings' Howard Will Start Tuesday

Wings' Howard Struggles In Loss

News: Jimmy Howard allowed four goals on just 19 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: Though it wasn't his best performance, and statistically it was his worst of the season, it wasn't as bad as it seemed as unfortunate bounces led directly to two of the goals. Another goal came from a shot behind the net to cap an odd night between the pipes for Jimmy Howard, but he's been great so far this season, so he'll just have to put this one behind him.

Wings' Howard In Net Sunday

News: Jimmy Howard will start in goal against the Canadiens on Sunday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced Friday against the Blackhawks, and will look for another solid performance against the Habs. He is expected to face Dustin Tokarski on Sunday, which could give him the edge in net. He carries a 7-2-4 record with a 1.96 GAA and a .926 save percentage into his 14th start of the season Sunday.

Wings' Howard Wins Friday

News: Jimmy Howard thwarted 25 of 26 shots in a 4-1 win over the visiting Blackhawks on Friday.
Analysis: Corey Crawford played well on the opposite end of the rink with 33 saves of his own, but a 20-shot outburst in the second period that equated to a pair of goals by the Red Wings were all Jimmy Howard needed to earn his seventh win of the season. In 13 games so far, he owns a 7-2-4 record with a 1.96 GAA and .926 save percentage, and he'll continue to be counted on by the Red Wings as their bonafide No. 1 netminder as the season rolls on.

Detroit To Start Howard On Friday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in the net Friday against the Blackhawks, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: With the Red Wings having been off the schedule since last Sunday, the well-rested Jimmy Howard will unsurprisingly take his third straight turn in the crease. Howard has been a little shaky of late with losses in three of his last four games, but his season ratios (2.03 GAA and .923 save percentage) still remain impressive. He'll have his work cut out for him Friday against a Blackhawks squad that has posted a winning record this season despite not playing its best hockey.

Wings' Howard Loses In Shootout

News: Jimmy Howard made 27 saves, but allowed the only goal of the shootout in Sunday's 4-3 loss against the Lightning.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has been solid in net so far with a 6-2-4 record, but was saddled with the loss on Sunday as his team couldn't get it by Lightning goalie Ben Bishop in the shootout. It snapped a five game streak of allowing two goals or less, but he'll continue to be a top option between the pipes.

Wings' Howard Will Start Sunday

News: Jimmy Howard will start between the pipes Sunday against the Lightning, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard only faced 17 shots in his last start against the Devils and ended up earning a 4-2 win. With backup Jonas Gustavsson out for a while with a dislocated shoulder, expect Howard to get the vast majority of the starts moving forward.

Wings' Howard Cruises To Easy Win

News: Jimmy Howard made 15 saves on 17 shots in Friday's win over New Jersey.
Analysis: Quite an easy night for Jimmy Howard, who snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. The 30-year-old is now 6-2-3 on the season with a .925 save percentage and 1.96 GAA. He has been superb so far this season and shows no signs of slowing down. With backup Jonas Gustavsson (shoulder) out approximately two months, Howard will be counted on more than ever.

Wings To Start Howard Friday

News: Jimmy Howard will get the start in net Friday against the Devils, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has dropped two games in a row, but he's been consistently good throughout the season for the Red Wings. He's allowed exactly two goals in six of his 10 starts and no more than three on the campaign, yielding a splendid 1.96 GAA for his efforts.

Detroit's Howard Makes 29 Saves Tuesday

News: Jimmy Howard stopped 29 shots but took a 3-1 loss to the Senators on Tuesday.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard did a magnificent job to hold the Senators to one goal in a first period they utterly dominated, outshooting the Red Wings by a 16-2 margin. The two teams performed more evenly thereafter, but Howard blinked with less than six minutes left to play in the game, allowing Patrick Wiercioch to beat him on a wrist shot. Howard would end up taking his second consecutive loss as a result, but he hasn't been a liability in either of the defeats. He'll get a rest Wednesday, as the Red Wings are expected to go with backup Jonas Gustavsson against the Rangers.

Wings' Howard Starting Tuesday

News: Jimmy Howard will start between the pipes Tuesday against the Senators, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has been hot lately, going 3-0-1 over his last four starts, and will get the call in the crease again Tuesday. He's given up just six goals over his last three starts, and ranks eighth in the NHL with a 1.95 GAA.

Wings' Howard Takes Shootout Loss

News: Jimmy Howard made 19 saves Sunday but gave up the one shootout goal in a 3-2 loss to the Sabres.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard wasn't spectacular but gave his team a chance to win. The Red Wings for some reason have struggled immensely with shootouts recently, so Howard didn't get much help past overtime. Despite the loss, Howard is still 5-1-3 with a sub-2.00 goals against average and a great start every night.

Red Wings Keep Howard In Net Sunday

News: Jimmy Howard will draw the start in goal Sunday against the Sabres, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: With a 1.97 goals-against average and .929 save percentage over eight starts this season, Jimmy Howard has ranked among the league's best netminders. A punchless Sabres attack doesn't figure to pose much of a threat to disrupt Howard's three-game winning streak.

Wing's Howard Continues To Wow

News: Jimmy Howard turned away 28 of 30 shots for his third straight win Friday against Columbus.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard is on fire, posting a 4-0-2 record in his last six games. You really can't do much better right now, as Howard's .929 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average are among the league's best. Keep him rolling.

Wings' Howard Allows Two In Win

News: Jimmy Howard stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard continued his recent streak of stellar play Wednesday, and is now 3-0-1 in his last four starts. He should be back in net Friday when the Red Wings take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings.

Red Wings' Howard To Start Wednesday

News: Jimmy Howard will be in goal for Wednesday's game against the Capitals, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard, who owns a 1.95 GAA and .929 SV%, will look to continue rolling Wednesday in Washington. He could be tested, however, by a team that got him for 12 goals in three overtime games last season.

Wings' Howard Gets Saturday Off

News: Jimmy Howard will yield to Jonas Gustavsson for Saturday's game against the Flyers, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jimmy Howard has played great so far this season, going 3-1-2 with a sub-2.00 goals-against average, but Detroit wants to keep him fresh throughout the season. It helps to have a quality backup like Gustavsson, who had a shutout in his first start of the year.

Wings' Howard Holds On For Comeback, OT Win

News: Jimmy Howard allowed three goals on 26 shots Thursday, but shut the Penguins down completely following Chris Kunitz's mid-second-period goal, allowing the Wings to mount a comeback and come away with an overtime win.
Analysis: Not the greatest of outings for Jimmy Howard, but he did rebound quite effectively after allowing all three goals in the game's first 28-plus minutes. Expect him back out there again Saturday in Philadelphia.
