Franson Struggling To Fit In With Predators

News: Cody Franson recorded an assist in Monday's win over the Coyotes, giving him three points in 10 games with the Predators.
Analysis: Cody Franson hasn't quite had the impact the Predators were expecting after acquiring him from the Maple Leafs in mid-February. While some decline in his role could have been anticipated due to the Preds' depth on defense, Franson has still seen his ice time fall below 15 minutes on three occasions already with his new team. Now that Ryan Ellis seems to be healthy following a bout with a lower-body injury, Franson's minutes count may only diminish further.

Franson Assists In Preds' Win Over Sabres

News: Cody Franson earned his first point back in a Preds' uniform Sunday, assisting on Mike Ribeiro's third-period power-play goal in a 2-1 shootout win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Now on his second tour of duty in Nashville, Cody Franson didn't take long to start contributing with his new (old) team. Against the Sabres, he saw ice time of 19:22, including a whopping 6:23 on the power play. With the Preds' big guns Shea Weber and Roman Josi eating up most of the top blue line minutes, Franson should still continue to see decent ice time playing the second pairing alongside Mattias Ekholm.

Franson Meets Up With Predators

News: Cody Franson (immigration issues) met the Predators for their practice in Philadelphia on Friday.
Analysis: Cody Franson, who was acquired by the Predators in last Sunday's trade with the Maple Leafs, had been forced to miss his new team's past two games while awaiting his immigration paperwork to process. Now that it appears that issue has been resolved, Franson looks on track to make his team debut Saturday against the Flyers.

Predators' Franson Out Again Thursday

News: Cody Franson (immigration issues) will not play Thursday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Both Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli, who were acquired from the Maple Leafs on Sunday, will sit for the second straight game due to their paperwork for immigration not being properly processed. Poor weather in the Northeast the last few days has not helped matters on that front, but the issue figures to be resolved in the near future. Still, it's uncertain if both players will be in the fold for the next game of the Preds' road trip Saturday in Philadelphia.

Predators Debut To Wait For Franson

News: Cody Franson probably won't be available for Tuesday's game against the Sharks due to paperwork issues, The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: According to the Preds' official site, both Cody Franson and forward Mike Santorelli are iffy for Tuesday's game, as the two newcomers still have immigration issues to be worked out before they can suit up for the team. Expect those matters to be sorted out prior to Thursday's game against the Islanders.

Leafs Send Franson To Nashville

News: Cody Franson was traded from the Maple Leafs to the Predators on Sunday.
Analysis: Cody Franson was the biggest name attached to a four-player trade Sunday between the two clubs, as he has now been moved to a playoff team for what essentially could be rental on the Predators' side as they chase a possible Stanley Cup. The blueliner has totaled 32 points in 55 games this season with the Maple Leafs, but will join be joining a more talented team in Nashville. It's possible that his ice time will drop slightly, but his addition to a better team could lead to more assists moving forward.

Leafs' Franson Will Play Saturday

News: Cody Franson (hip) will play Saturday against the Oilers, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Cody Franson didn't take part in pregame line rushes, and there was some speculation that he would be forced to sit due to a hip issue. Apparently, Franson will be fine to play after all, though it's always possible he could see less than the 21-plus minutes he averages.

Leafs' Franson Helps Out, Gets 10 PIM

News: Cody Franson recorded a power-play assist and 10 PIM in Monday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: With offense as scarce as it is these days for the Maple Leafs, picking up penalty minutes is about the only way Toronto skaters can maintain their fantasy value these days. Cody Franson certainly hasn't been immune to the Leafs' evaporating offense, as Monday's assist marked his first point in four games. Even so, he's still been one of the team's more effective performers in January, notching a goal and four assists over nine games.

Leafs' Franson Collects Two Helpers Friday

News: Cody Franson collected a pair of assists in Friday's win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Cody Franson is having himself quite the season. The 27-year-old blueliner now has six points (one goal) in his last seven games, giving him 27 points (six goals) in 40 games on the season. He has appeared on the scoresheet in eight of his last 13 outings and has had six multi-point games this season -- seventh-most among NHL defensemen. Playing on Toronto's' top defensive pairing and first power-play unit with Dion Phaneuf, Franson is a must-start every game.

Toronto's Franson Continuing To Put Up Points

News: Cody Franson's assist Wednesday night gives him 25 points in 39 games. He is just eight points from tying his career mark from last season (33 points in 79 games).
Analysis: He's made massive shifts in his two-way game, not only in terms of points, but also in plus-minus -- he's sitting at plus-3 after finishing last year at minus-20. You probably got him cheap on draft day. Wring every penny out of him.

Leafs' Franson On Pace For 50-Point Season

News: Cody Franson picked up a power-play assist in Sunday's loss to Florida. He now has 22 points on the season and remains on pace to deliver a 50-point season.
Analysis: Can you say money in the bank? Cody Franson will be a free agent at season's end yet again and he'll command a hefty salary for his current body of work. And as a defender, he's just entering his prime (age 27). Use him well. There should be a couple more seasons like this in him.

Leafs' Franson Gets Another Assist

News: Cody Franson picked up his 20th point of the season Thursday when he tallied an assist in a 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Analysis: He's scoring and playing very physical hockey -- he has 90 hits in 30 games this season. Just beware that shooting percentage -- it's sitting at 10.4 percent, but his career mark is 6.1. There will be some regression, but he'll still deliver solid numbers for fantasy owners going forward.

Leafs' Franson: Goal And Assist In Win

News: Cody Franson picked up his first points in six games in Sunday's shootout win over Los Angeles. He scored a goal and added an assist. The helper came on the power play.
Analysis: He also delivered seven hits and five blocked shots. His 19 points lead all Leafs' blueliners.

Leafs' Franson: Streak Now Stands At Eight Games

News: Cody Franson stretched his point streak to eight games and 10 points after he delivered an assist in Tuesday's 9-2 loss to Nashville. Remarkably, he was one of just four Toronto players to finish with an even (or better) rating on the game.
Analysis: It wasn't like he only played a few shifts -- he was out there for almost 18 minutes. His streak (two goals, eight assists) is just about as good as it gets this season. Use him well.

Leafs' Franson Riding Seven-Game Streak

News: Cody Franson's point streak stands at seven games and nine points, including seven assists, after he picked up an assist in Saturday's loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Wow -- that makes 12 points in 16 games. Test the trade waters immediately. He can't keep up this pace and he's not a 50-point defender. But a Leaf fan in your league might think he's the second-coming of Borje Salming.

Toronto's Franson On Five-Game Streak

News: Cody Franson's two assists Wednesday stretch his current point streak to five games and seven points, including six assists.
Analysis: He has 10 points in 14 games and has been surprisingly productive this season. He's also blocking shots and laying hits, so he has multi-categorical value.

Leafs' Franson Rattles Off Two Helpers

News: Cody Franson collected an assist on the power play and another at even strength in Thursday's shootout loss to Colorado.
Analysis: He's got three points in the last two games now and six in 11 games on the year, a more-than-respectable pace for fantasy purposes. Cody Franson's recorded four of his points on the man advantage, but unlike last year, he's been able to keep his plus-minus on the positive side of the ledger so far this season despite a minus-1 on Thursday.

Toronto's Franson Gets First Goal In Nine Games

News: Cody Franson scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: He has just four points in 10 games this season; it was his first goal in nine games and just his second point in that same span. His value is limited right now, although he's delivering lots of hits for those of you in deeper specialty formats.

Leafs' Franson Returns With Two Points

News: Cody Franson (knee) returned to action Sunday against the Rangers, contributing a goal and assist in the 6-3 victory.
Analysis: Cody Franson made his presence felt right from the get-go, staking the Leafs to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 7:45 into the first period. The blueliner had missed the Leafs' first two games of the season while nursing a knee injury, but as Sunday's performance revealed, everything looks to be sound on the health front.

Leafs' Franson (Knee) Activated, But Will Sit

News: Though he was activated from injured reserve earlier in the day, Cody Franson (knee) didn't take part in pregame warmups and looks prepared to sit out Saturday against the Penguins, David Alter of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Cody Franson's participation in morning skate and subsequent activation seemed to signal that the blueliner was ready for a return, but it appears coach Randy Carlyle will take the cautious approach and sit him out for one more game. Stuart Percy will remain in for the Leafs on defense, but it Franson could be ready to take his spot Sunday versus the Rangers.

Leafs' Franson Appears Likely To Play

News: Cody Franson (knee) was activated from injured reserve Saturday and appears likely to suit up against the Penguins, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Coach Randy Carlyle said after Cody Franson took part in morning skate that the defenseman would only be an option to play Saturday, but the Leafs likely wouldn't activate him from IR if they didn't plan on using him. Franson, who missed the team's first two games while dealing with the knee injury, is expected to pair up with Morgan Rielly.

Leafs' Franson Unlikely To Return Until Sunday

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said after Friday's practice that it's more likely Cody Franson (knee) returns to action Sunday against the Rangers rather than Saturday versus the Penguins, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: With the Leafs playing back-to-back games over the weekend, it seems to make more sense that the team would hold Cody Franson out until the second contest, which would keep the team's blue line fresher overall. There's still a chance that Franson could talk his way into Saturday's lineup, but look for the team to play it safe and keep him on target for a Sunday return.

Leafs' Franson Looking Questionable For Saturday

News: Cody Franson (knee) was present at Friday's practice, but didn't rotate in on a defined pairing, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Cody Franson was able take reps on the team's first power-play unit, but it remains uncertain if he'll be ready to go for Saturday's game against the Penguins. In any case, Franson does look like he's closing in on a return, so it's probably best for his fantasy owners to hang on to him for now.

Leafs Move Franson To IR

News: Cody Franson (knee) was placed on injured reserve by the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: The Maple Leafs had already ruled Cody Franson out of Wednesday's season opener against the Canadiens, but because he first suffered the injury Sept. 28, he'll be able to come off IR as soon as he's deemed available. Franson seems to be targeting a return to the lineup Saturday against the Penguins, with his status likely to be determined based on how his workouts go over the next few days. Stuart Percy is expected to assume Franson's spot on the Leafs' third line in the interim.

Maple Leafs' Franson Out For Opener

News: Cody Franson (knee) will not play in Wednesday's season opener against the Canadiens, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Cody Franson was able to skate the last couple days, but the Maple Leafs want to give him a few more days to rest and recover before putting him back in the lineup. Franson may just miss the lone game, as he is targeting Saturday's game for his season debut.
