News:Mark Streit had two goals and an assist in the Game 4 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Analysis: During the game it was announced that his first goal was actually tipped in by John Tavares, but for now, the goal is still being credited to Mark Streit. He'll pick up an assist even if he loses the tally.
News:Mark Streit had two assists to help the Islanders tie their series against Pittsburgh at one all.
Analysis:Mark Streit may no longer be an asset in the defensive zone but he is still a top notch offensive d-man.
News:Mark Streit had a goal and an assist as the Islanders defeated the Panthers 5-2 on Tuesday.
Analysis:Mark Streit is no longer the defensive player he once was, as his minus-14 suggests, but he is still a force offensively and is the point man on what can be a dangerous power play at times.
News:Mark Streit, who left this past Thursday's game in the third period after taking a hit to the face, saw 19:36 worth of ice time in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis:Mark Streit's 23 points in 42 games to date give him some fantasy value, though his minus-15 rating is a downer for those in formats where that category is factored in. Last season with the Isles, Streit recorded 47 points in 82 games, with a minus-15 rating.
News:Mark Streit had two helpers in a 2-1 win over Boston on Thursday, but did leave the game in the third period after taking a hit to the face.
Analysis: The facial injury is probably not a big deal, but we'll call him day-to-day for now. Mark Streit can no longer be relied on to be a shutdown defender, but there's nothing wrong with his offensive game. It'll be interesting to see whether he and the Isles will be able to work out a contract extension this offseason.
Isles' Streit Has Two Assists In Win Over Winnipeg
News:Mark Streit had two assists in a 5-2 victory over the Jets on Tuesday.
Analysis: The bigger news with Mark Streit is that negotiations seem to have broken down between him and the club regarding contract negotiations. This would seem to increase the likelihood that he gets dealt before the deadline Wednesday, as it would be a big mistake for the Isles to see Streit leave in the offseason without them getting anything in return, especially when they could command a small ransom for his services. Every team in the playoff hunt would like a veteran d-man who can move the puck, and the Isles could always look to sign him in the offseason once again.
News:Mark Streit and the Islanders have yet to come to agreement on a new contract, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: This puts the Isles in a tough spot if they are unable to come to an agreement by the trade deadline tomorrow. They would like to re-sign Mark Streit, he would like to stay, and the team is in a playoff push and need his services, but he could also command a very good trade package, and the Isles can ill afford to let him walk away for nothing in free agency this offseason. Best guess is this contract will get done.
News:Mark Streit and the Islanders are said to be close to a contract extension, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The Islanders just signed Lubomir Visnovsky to an extension and would like to do the same with Mark Streit. If they are unable to do a deal by the trade deadline on Wednesday, then it would make the most sense to deal him rather than risk losing him for nothing in free agency. Streit wants to stay on Long Island and the Isles need d-men, would be an upset if a contract agreement did not get completed.
News:Mark Streit and the Islanders are thought to be in contract negotiations, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis:Mark Streit is in the final year of a five-year $20.5 million deal and could certainly fetch a solid trade package at the trade deadline if the Islanders decide to go that route, but in the end, they know they need as many capable defensemen as possible and will look to keep Streit on a two or three year deal.
News:Mark Streit scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Saturday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: So much for that knee injury he's been dealing with. He now has 10 points in 18 games; seven of those points have come on the power play. His value remains solid in most formats and is only impaired in those that use plus-minus.
News:Mark Streit has been playing with a knee injury, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis:Mark Streit injured the knee in November while playing for the Swiss national team during the lockout. No word yet on the exact nature of the injury but it shouldn't cost him any game action. Streit is also looking for a new contract from the Islanders, in the $10 million for three year range.
News:Mark Streit and the Islanders have begun preliminary talks on a new contract, according to Newsday.
Analysis: The Islanders are weak on defense and have plenty of cap room to sign Mark Streit, but he is 35 years of age and although still productive, is not the same player he used to be. Also clouding his future on Long Island is that if the Isles fall completely out of the playoff picture by the trade deadline, there will be plenty of teams knocking on their door to pick up Streit for the stretch run.
News:Mark Streit (illness) will play Sunday against Winnipeg, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: In four games this season, Mark Streit has two points (one goal and one assist) and a minus-4 rating.
News:Mark Streit will sign a deal with SC Bern of Switzerland in the near future, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The deal will allow Mark Streit to continue to play during the NHL lockout. Streit registered 40 assists and seven goals in just over 23 minutes of ice time per game with the Islanders this past season.
News:Mark Streit stretched his point streak to six games and eight points (one goal, seven assists) in Saturday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: It's his 43rd point of the season, a total that has disappointed his owners who drafted him for a 50-55 year. He might come at 90 cents on the dollar next draft ...
News:Mark Streit notched a pair of primary assists in Thursday's loss to the Flyers, extending his points streak to three games and four total assists.
Analysis: With 39 points and 21 of those on the power play, Mark Streit has real fantasy value, but that minus-23 rating (plus-1 Thursday!) is a real killer. The amazing thing is that Streit's never been worse than a minus-6 in his career. With that in mind, file his name away for next year, when that plus-minus will depress his ADP.
News:Mark Streit notched an assist for the second straight game, doing so in Tuesday's shootout loss to Washington.
Analysis:Mark Streit is having a solid season in relative anonymity, as he appears poised to crack the 40-point mark, albeit currently with a minus-24 rating. If you can take the plus-minus hit, he's well worth the risk.
News:Mark Streit logged 17:27 of ice time in Sunday's win over New Jersey with 6:42 of that total coming on the power play. He has not posted a point in five of his last six games.
Analysis:Mark Streit is going through a rough stretch, but we would be more worried if he was not seeing the type of power-play minutes he has been. The Islanders are still prone to a shutout and scoring only one goal, but Streit has possibly the most secure power-play quarterback job in the league. Expect the points to pick up with the slick Swiss veteran.
News: In the wake of all the injuries to the Isles defense Mark Streit is expected to be a workhorse on the blueline, according to Newsday.
Analysis:Mark Streit missed all of the 2010-11 season after undergoing shoulder surgery and has yet to play his best, but that won't stop the Isles from playing him close to every other shift. Streit played over 27 minutes Tuesday, over 25 Thursday, look for that workload to continue in the near future until some of those injuries to their defensive corps return to health.
News:Mark Streit grabbed a goal in Thursday's win over Philadelphia, giving him three points in the last four games.
Analysis:Mark Streit is factoring much into the Islanders' recent success, with points in each of the last two games. Streit is the team's only viable source of offense from the blue line and has put up six points in the last six games. Play him confidently.
News:Mark Streit racked up three assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: His 22 points in 40 games put Mark Streit on the fringes of fantasy relevance, but this positive night only served to pull his rating up to a still-horrendous minus-15 on the season. Streit had collected no goals and three assists in the prior 12 games, so this breakout was overdue. He still hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 17, though.
News:Mark Streit still seems to be finding his way this season after missing all of last year due to shoulder surgery.
Analysis:Mark Streit has only two goals to go along with 17 assists but is a troubling -15. A slow start was to be expected after missing a full season, but 40 games in should be enough to shake off the cob webs.
News:Mark Streit assisted on two of the Islanders' five goals in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay, giving him three assists the last two games.
Analysis:Mark Streit has a healthy 15 points in 25 games on the season and is seeing his woeful minus rating creep toward positive digits. Streit won't garner much attention playing on Long Island, but his numbers this season are steady, especially as the Islanders are starting to play stronger hockey.
News:Mark Streit notched his first point in over a year with an assist on Frans Nielsen's game-winning goal Monday.
Analysis: The Islanders desperately need Mark Streit to show the 50-plus point production he is capable of. The assist Monday was an excellent slap pass across the slot. Look for Streit to factor much into the Islanders' attack in his return from missing an entire season with a shoulder injury.
News:Mark Streit put in a strong effort Saturday against the Devils. He scored a goal and added two helpers.
Analysis: The goal and one of the assists came on the power play. He's fully recovered from that shoulder injury; draft with confidence. This young Isles team could surprise and Mark Streit is going to be key to that success.
News:Mark Streit was on the ice Monday along with several other Islanders, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Any improvement the Isles might make in the standings and/or on their defensive corps rely on Mark Streit providing a steady influence at the blue line. Streit missed all of last season after undergoing shoulder surgery but will be good to go come Game 1 this season and should not be forgotten about in fantasy leagues.
News: Streit (shoulder) will miss the rest of the regular season, the team's official Twitter reports.
Analysis: Streit skated during Wednesday morning's practice, but was not granted medical clearance for contact and will be shut down for the remainder of the regular season.
News: Streit (shoulder) still hasn't been cleared for contact, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Streit is practicing and taking shots, but has yet to take any hits. He believes it will still be another couple of weeks before that happens. At this point one has to wonder why the Islanders would bother playing him again this season.
News: Streit (shoulder) has been cleared for non-contact practice, Newsday's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: He's technically getting closer to a return, but the Islanders are without both a timetable and an incentive to rush him back sooner than he's ready.
News: Streit (shoulder) is still not close to returning to action, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Streit did skate with teammates at an optional practice on Wednesday and will see his doctor next week in the hope of getting clearance to participate in a full practice. With the Islanders 13 points out of a playoff spot there doesn't seem to be much of a point to rushing Streit back this season.
News: Streit (shoulder) has been shooting since early January, but still isn't taking slap shots, Katie Strang of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The plan for now is that Streit will continue to get some work in for the next two-to-three weeks before he'll visit with his doctors again to come up with an action plan. It's unclear at this time if Streit will be able to return this season, so carefully weigh your alternatives if you're considering an IR spot for him.
News: Streit (shoulder) skated with the team Wednesday, according to Newsday's Katie Strang.
Analysis: The question for the Islanders, once Streit is ready to comeback, will be, is it worth it to play Streit in a handful of games at the end of season when you have no chance at the playoffs? At this point it looks like Streit will play if he doesn't suffer any setbacks, but there is still no definitive timetable for his return to game action.
News: Streit (shoulder) was on the ice skating Monday, the Isles official site reports.
Analysis: This seems to contradict previous reports that Streit isn't going to be returning this season. We'll await further information from the Isles regarding the extent of Streit's activity before getting too excited about his chances of returning in February -- as it was once expected a few months back.
News: Streit (shoulder) is unlikely to return this season, according to Newsday.
Analysis: That's another bad break for the Islanders and his fantasy owners as they were hoping to get Streit back in February. There has been no word whether Streit suffered a setback or if the Isles are just being cautious with their top d-man. Either way this is the second blueliner lost for the season in as many days as Mark Eaton is also out for the season after undergoing hip surgery Monday.
News: Streit is one of two Islanders that are on the All-Star ballot, according to Newsday.
Analysis: We all know the Islanders are a pretty bad team, but surely they must have someone on their roster who might actually play in a game before All-Star Weekend. Streit is not due back until February at the very earliest.
News: A report out of Switzerland says Streit had successful shoulder surgery and there's optimism for a February return, according to Chris Botta of www.islanderspointblank.com.
Analysis: Assuming the timetable holds true, if your league offers a very deep bench then Streit might be worth stashing at the end of it in hopes of two months worth of late-season production.
News: Streit will have a second opinion on his injured shoulder Tuesday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: In all likelihood Streit will require surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff, labrum, and dislocation of the shoulder. He is expected to miss six months and can be safely dropped from your draft list.
News: Streit will miss six months after tearing the labrum and rotator cuff in his left shoulder, FanHouse.com reports.
Analysis: The injury happened during a scrimmage on Saturday when Streit awkwardly fell into the boards after getting a light push from forward Matt Moulson. If the report holds up, Streit could be out for the entire regular season depending on the course of his rehab. We'll await confirmation of the diagnosis from the Isles in a press conference Monday.
News: Streit injured his shoulder falling into the boards during a scrimmage Satruday, according to the Islanders Point Blank.
Analysis: Islanders Point Blank believes Streit will miss 2-6 weeks based upon the editor's PR experience when he worked for the NHL and announced dozens of shoulder injuries. Typical Islanders luck that their best defenseman gets injured in a scrimmage against themselves. Matt Moulson cross-checked Streit, who then fell awkwardly into the boards. Apparently it was just a fluke as the hit wasn't all that hard, and just another case of bad luck for the Isles, a team that needs all hands on deck if they expect to compete for a playoff spot this season. A more definitive update is expected Monday.
News: Streit injured his left shoulder during the third period of Saturday's scrimmage, according to Katie Strang of Newsday.
Analysis: We'll know more Monday once he gets some tests. Streit is far and away the best blueliner for the Isles so an injury that shelves him for any part of the regular season would be pretty important news for player and team.
News: Islanders D Mark Streit tallied three assists during Sunday's series finale against the Penguins. He also had a multi-assist game on Thursday against the Penguins. Streit had six multi-assist games in 2009-10, with five coming after the Olympic break.

News: Thanks to Mark Streit's goal 53 seconds into the extra period, the Islanders had their second overtime win and their third overall victory -- 4-3 over the Washington Capitals. Streit beat Washington goalie Jose Theodore from about 10 feet for his second goal of the season and his first overtime goal. "We kept it simple," said Streit, who also had an assist and finished at plus-2.
Analysis: Streit didn't have a point in seven games before ending his slump on Friday. Despite being on one of the weaker teams in the NHL, Streit has proven he can still be an effective force at both ends of the ice. Continue to start him in all Fantasy formats.
News:The Sports Xchange reports D Mark Streit, the Islanders' leading scorer with 56 points, built on his first season on Long Island with a strong showing as the captain of Team Switzerland at the recent World Championships. "They put a lot on his shoulders," coach Scott Gordon said. "He played close to 30 minutes a game... It's like playing 35 minutes back in the NHL. I bumped into Mark after they were eliminated, and we talked about all the power-play breakouts he had to do. It's a lot of skating."
Analysis: Streit's signing for $20.5 million last summer drew some snickers around the NHL, but the Swiss-born former Canadien proved to be a bargain and far more than the power-play specialist he was branded as in Montreal. Streit led the Isles with more than 25 minutes per game and finished seventh among all NHL defensemen in scoring with 56 points despite missing eight games with injuries. Streit showed no drop-off after going from a contender to NHL bottom feeder. He will remain a must-own Fantasy defenseman heading into 2009-10.

Analysis: It's good to see Streit back in the lineup for those Fantasy owners still active in the final week of the season. Streit continues to be a high-end Fantasy defenseman and will be one of the elite options plucked off draft boards next season.

New York recalled center Trevor Smith and left wing Sean Bentivoglio from Bridgeport of the AHL on Thursday and had both rookies in the lineup when they faced the Canadiens. News: Islanders D Mark Streit scored and assisted in Thursday's loss to the Maple Leafs. The former Canadien has 11 points in his last 11 games.

Analysis: Streit has been the best offensive presences on the Islanders' squad this season despite being a defenseman. His 39 points leads the team with Doug Weight second with 35 points. He can be a high-end option but it's hard to think of him as such playing for the Islanders.

News:Newsday reports Islanders All-Star defenseman Mark Streit, who has missed five games with a left shoulder injury, went through practice Sunday and might be ready to play Monday against the Penguins. "It's different to practice than to play games," Streit said after his second full practice with the team. "I mean, the last couple days helped me a lot to heal it and to feel better out there. It was a little bit physical but not crazy. I'm going to ice it and see how it is (Monday) morning. It's a game-time decision. I could see myself playing soon. But I don't want to rush it. I don't feel any pressure that it has to be (against Pittsburgh). I want to make sure it feels good. I want to help the team."
Analysis: Coach Scott Gordon also added Sunday he is in no rush to get Streit back on the ice since New York isn't playing for a playoff berth. It sounds as though Streit could return Fantasy Week 20 (Feb. 16-22), but still remains an injury-risk start. He obviously has high-end Fantasy potential when healthy.
News: Islanders D Mark Streit (shoulder) did not return to action Saturday against the Flyers. He has missed the last five games and remains questionable heading into Sunday at the Rangers.
Analysis: Streit is one game away from becoming an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period. He hasn't been put on the IR and is still being considered to be day to day. His injury is said to be painful and he'll be able to play when the pain has subsided enough for him to give it a go. When he does come back, Streit is a must-start option.

Analysis: The Islanders continue to treat Streit as a day-to-day candidate and we wish we could offer up more information, but that's about it in a nutshell right now. Streit is dealing with a painful injury and is only expected to play when he can find the discomfort tolerable. Streit is a must-start Fantasy option when healthy.
News: Islanders D Mark Streit was unable to return to action on Saturday against the Lightning with a shoulder injury that also sidelined him for Thursday's game against the Panthers. He remains questionable for the Islanders' game against the Kings on Tuesday.
Analysis: Streit's injury is "a painful one" according to coach Scott Gordon but not one that is going to get worse. It essentially comes down to Streit's tolerance for pain which is apparently not high enough to have him active yet. He is a player who can be started at your own risk, but it is not recommended.
News:Newsday reports Islanders D Mark Streit was not active Thursday against the Panthers and missed his first game of the season with a painful left shoulder injury. The Islanders are listing him as day-to-day and he could play Saturday against the Lightning, but coach Scott Gordon it's a question of "pain tolerance, how much he can handle it. Right now, he's not at the point where he can play... It's not one of those injuries where you can do more damage to it. But it is painful."
Analysis: Streit has a team-high 38 points and is logging close to 25 minutes per game. He is a do-it-all defenseman for New York and a must-start Fantasy defenseman when healthy. If he can't play Saturday against the Lightning, then Streit is an injury-risk start Week 19 (Feb. 9-15).
News: Islanders All-Star defenseman Mark Streit was not in the lineup Thursday against the Panthers because of an upper-body injury. New York hasn't said much about the ailment, so he remains questionable heading into Saturday against the Lightning.

Analysis: Streit is struggling somewhat before heading to his first All-Star game, but he is still among the league leaders in points from a defenseman. As much as he relied on the Canadiens putting him in good situations last season, Streit has managed to make scoring chances of his own with the lowly Islanders. He is still worth a look as a high-end Fantasy defenseman.
News: Islanders D Mark Streit extended his current scoring streak to five games with an assist on RW Richard Park's goal Saturday against the Sharks. Streit has one goal and five assists during his streak.

Streit is coming off a career season and the move to New York might not help his Fantasy value all that much. Granted, he will likely considerable see time on the power play, but Streit has always been more comfortable playing as a forward than defenseman. Also, New York doesn't have as many offensive weapons as Montreal. Consider Streit more of a No. 3 Fantasy defenseman heading into 2008-09 because there is room for disappointment.
