Wild's Suter Gets PP Assist

News: Ryan Suter captured a power-play assist in Friday's Game 5 victory over the Blues.
Analysis: Ryan Suter's first point of the postseason came when he set up Mikko Koivu, whose shot attempt deflected off the skate of the Blues' Jay Bouwmeester and into the net. The blueliner logged 27:19 of action Friday and is still viewed as the team's top defenseman, but his offensive production has slid this season. In the 82 games he's played (including the postseason), Suter has generated just two goals on 154 shots, resulting in a 1.2 percent shooting rate.

Wild To Hold Out Suter On Saturday

News: Ryan Suter (rest) will not play Saturday against the Blues, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Both the Blues and Wild are resting a number of key players with their playoff spots secure, while also exhibiting a bit of gamesmanship due to the high probability of the two teams facing each other in the first round. Ryan Suter will finish the regular season with two goals and 38 points over 77 games.

Wild's Suter Sets Up Two In Win

News: Ryan Suter was credited with two assists and a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Blues.
Analysis: With 33 assists in 68 games, Ryan Suter is on track to surpass his production from a season earlier in the category, despite averaging less ice time and already missing four games due to injury. However, it's looking likely that he'll fail to crack the 40-point mark for a second straight season, due mainly to some rotten luck in the goal-scoring department. He's lit the lamp just twice this season, with his 1.5 percent shooting rate representing his lowest mark since his rookie year with Nashville in 2005-06.

Wild's Suter Breaks Out Of Slump With Assist

News: Ryan Suter picked up a secondary assist in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Ryan Suter had gone the previous eight games without a point, so the helper was sorely needed. The veteran defenseman is averaging 29:11 of ice time per game, which ranks second in the NHL behind defenseman Drew Doughty of the Kings. It must be discouraging for Suter's fantasy owners that he's doing so little with heavy ice time, but he's a proven commodity and not someone you want to give up on.

Wild's Suter Tallies Two Points In Win

News: Ryan Suter registered a power-play goal and an assist in Monday's 5-3 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: Ryan Suter has been finding his way back onto the scoresheet with more regularity lately. With 28 points in 48 contests he's on pace for a career-high and could reach the 50-point mark with a strong final push to end the season. The goal was just his second of the season, and the first since the opening game of the year, but his assists keep him as a decent point-scoring option on the blueline.

Wild's Suter Healthy, On Hot Streak

News: Ryan Suter (lower body) had an assist and was plus-1 in 27:55 of ice time in Sunday's win over Vancouver. "We were going to give it a break. But I felt better," Suter told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Yesterday when I went to sleep, I didn't think I was going to play. This morning I woke up and it felt good."
Analysis: The Wild were considering giving him a rest not worsen the injury, but apparently that is no longer a concern. Ryan Suter has turned around his season after a six-week slump as he has three assists and is plus-4 in his last four games.

Wild's Suter (Lower Body) Will Play Sunday

News: Ryan Suter (lower body) will play against the Canucks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was initially expected to miss Sunday's contest, ending a long streak of consecutive starts, but it appears he will give it a go Sunday. The star blueliner still hasn't missed a game since joining the Wild.

Wild's Suter (Lower Body) Expected To Take Warmups

News: Ryan Suter (lower body) is expected to attempt warmups before Sunday's game before determining his official status for the game, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Tribune reports.
Analysis: The news gives owners some hope that Ryan Suter could be in the lineup, as he was reportedly expected to miss the contest. He should receive an update with an official status closer to the opening faceoff.

Status Of Wild's Suter In Question For Sunday

News: Coach Mike Yeo indicated that Ryan Suter (lower body) isn't certain to play Sunday against the Canucks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: The injury had previously put Ryan Suter's status in question for Thursday's game against the Flames, but he ended up suiting up, though he saw his a nearly six-minute reduction in ice time from his usual average. Yeo said the team would revisit Suter's condition Sunday morning before a decision on his availability is made.

Wild's Suter Confirmed To Play Thursday

News: Coach Mike Yeo confirmed Ryan Suter (lower body) would play Thursday against the Flames, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The injury prevented Ryan Suter from taking part in Wednesday's practice, but he was back on the ice for Thursday's morning skate to verify his availability for the game. Suter has seen his offensive contributions tail off a bit this season, particularly as a goal scorer, but he still paces the NHL with an average of 29:37 TOI per game.

Wild's Suter (Lower Body) Misses Practice

News: Ryan Suter didn't participate in practice Wednesday due to "a little discomfort," head coach Mike Yeo told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was limping after Tuesday's game, but the injury wasn't though to be serious. He is expected to play Thursday against Calgary.

Wild's Suter Helps Out Twice

News: Ryan Suter assisted on Mikko Koivu's power-play goal and Thomas Vanek's even-strength tally Tuesday in a shootout loss to Detroit. He finished plus-2 with one shot on goal.
Analysis: Goals are still hard to come by for Ryan Suter, who remains stuck on one for the year, but he does have three assists in the last three games on the heels of a nine-game stretch without a point. The nice plus-minus was good to see, too, as he'd gone a stunningly awful minus-12 over the prior seven games.

Wild's Suter Returns From Suspension

News: Ryan Suter had four shots on goal, but was a minus-2, in Monday's loss to Columbus. He had missed the prior two games due to a suspension.
Analysis: Ryan Suter had 30:11 of ice time as he continues to lead the NHL in average ice time. At least the two-game suspension gave him some rest.

Minnesota's Suter Suspended Two Games

News: Ryan Suter has been suspended for two games for elbowing Pittsburgh's Steve Downie on Tuesday, the Wild's official site reports.
Analysis: As a result, Ryan Suter will sit out Thursday's game at Buffalo and Saturday's home contest against Arizona. He'll be eligible to return to action on Jan. 19, against Columbus. With Suter -- who has 23 points in 40 games to date -- currently suspended and Justin Falk injured, the Wild have recalled fellow blueliner Matt Dumba from AHL Iowa.

Wild's Suter Faces Possible Suspension

News: Ryan Suter will have a hearing with the NHL on Wednesday and faces a possible suspension for hitting Steve Downie in the head with an elbow in Monday's loss to Pittsburgh, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter said the incident was an acccident as he was reaching for the puck when Downie skated into his arm. Suter had an assist during the game, but was a minus-4 as the Wild's blue line continues to struggle.

Wild's Suter Contributes Two Assists In Loss

News: Ryan Suter contributed a pair of assists in Saturday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis: It's good times for Ryan Suter's fantasy owners. The 29-year-old has delivered 10 assists in his last eight games, putting him at 21 points (one goal) in 29 games on the season. While his goal total is shockingly low, his 66 shots on goal suggest he will start finding twine soon. He's one of the best fantasy defensemen around.

Wild's Suter: Two Power-Play Assists

News: Ryan Suter delivered two power-play assists in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Arizona.
Analysis: He missed time with the mumps, but has still strung together seven points -- all assists -- in his last five games. He's a top-15 offensive defender and that makes him a great number two man on any fantasy blue line.

Wild's Suter Notches Assist Trick In Return

News: Ryan Suter returned from the mumps with three assists -- one on the power play -- Tuesday in a 5-4 win over the Isles.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was key to the Wild's comeback from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits, assisting on Jason Pominville's goal to get the Wild on the board and then helping out on the game-tying and game-winning tallies. He ended up missing just two games with the ailment and now has a three-game point streak dating back to before his illness.

Wild's Suter Expected To Play Tuesday

News: Ryan Suter (illness) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Islanders, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild missed their TOI leader while he was out, but he looks poised to return now that he's over his recent case of the mumps. The blueliner racked up a goal, 12 assists, and a plus-10 rating in 23 games before suffering the injury.

Wild's Suter (Mumps) Present At Morning Skate

News: Ryan Suter (mumps) was present for the Wild's morning skate Friday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was formally diagnosed with the mumps Thursday morning, but it sounds like the worst of the symptoms have subsided at this point. Still, the Wild have yet to rule him active for Friday's game against the Ducks, so it's worthwhile to follow up on his status during the Wild's pregame warmups in the event he's held out for a second straight game.

Wild's Suter Diagnosed With Mumps

News: Ryan Suter (illness) has been diagnosed with the mumps virus, but isn't being ruled out from playing Friday versus the Ducks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter becomes the fifth Minnesota defenseman to succumb to the illness, which quite remarkably, hasn't afflicted a player from any other position on the Wild roster. While the mumps has caused multi-game absences for all of those who have previously been diagnosed with it, Suter reported improvement with his condition Thursday, though he wasn't able to practice. Still, he'll need to show some dramatic progress in his recovery over the next 24 hours to have a legitimate chance at playing Friday. If he can't go as expected, look for Marco Scandella to assume his spot on the Wild's top pairing once again.

Wild's Suter Out Wednesday, To Get Tests For Mumps

News: Ryan Suter (illness) will not play Wednesday against the Canadiens and had blood work done to see if he might be dealing with the mumps, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: While Ryan Suter hasn't experienced the swollen glands typical of the virus, coach Mike Yeo did say that the defensemen had some symptoms that concerned the team. If doctors determine that Suter has the mumps, he'd become the fifth blueliner on the team to have been affected by it. Jonas Brodin, Christian Folin, Marco Scandella and Keith Ballard all missed multiple games with the virus.

Wild's Suter Racks Up PIM In Win

News: Ryan Suter was charged with four penalties and spent a total of eight minutes in the box during Sunday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The penalties didn't put too much of a dent into Ryan Suter's league-leading minutes total, as he saw only about 50 seconds less of ice time than the 29:13 he's averaging for the season. The blueliner was able to finish the game with a plus-1 rating to bring his mark up to plus-10 over 17 games, but he's fallen into a bit of a scoring drought of late. Suter has collected only one point over his last six contests.
