Wild's Suter: Two Power-Play Assists

News: Ryan Suter delivered two power-play assists in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over Arizona.
Analysis: He missed time with the mumps, but has still strung together seven points -- all assists -- in his last five games. He's a top-15 offensive defender and that makes him a great number two man on any fantasy blue line.

Wild's Suter Notches Assist Trick In Return

News: Ryan Suter returned from the mumps with three assists -- one on the power play -- Tuesday in a 5-4 win over the Isles.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was key to the Wild's comeback from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits, assisting on Jason Pominville's goal to get the Wild on the board and then helping out on the game-tying and game-winning tallies. He ended up missing just two games with the ailment and now has a three-game point streak dating back to before his illness.

Wild's Suter Expected To Play Tuesday

News: Ryan Suter (illness) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Islanders, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild missed their TOI leader while he was out, but he looks poised to return now that he's over his recent case of the mumps. The blueliner racked up a goal, 12 assists, and a plus-10 rating in 23 games before suffering the injury.

Analysis: He was able to participate in the pregame skate which suggests he could return shortly.

Wild's Suter (Mumps) Present At Morning Skate

News: Ryan Suter (mumps) was present for the Wild's morning skate Friday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter was formally diagnosed with the mumps Thursday morning, but it sounds like the worst of the symptoms have subsided at this point. Still, the Wild have yet to rule him active for Friday's game against the Ducks, so it's worthwhile to follow up on his status during the Wild's pregame warmups in the event he's held out for a second straight game.

Wild's Suter Diagnosed With Mumps

News: Ryan Suter (illness) has been diagnosed with the mumps virus, but isn't being ruled out from playing Friday versus the Ducks, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter becomes the fifth Minnesota defenseman to succumb to the illness, which quite remarkably, hasn't afflicted a player from any other position on the Wild roster. While the mumps has caused multi-game absences for all of those who have previously been diagnosed with it, Suter reported improvement with his condition Thursday, though he wasn't able to practice. Still, he'll need to show some dramatic progress in his recovery over the next 24 hours to have a legitimate chance at playing Friday. If he can't go as expected, look for Marco Scandella to assume his spot on the Wild's top pairing once again.

Wild's Suter Out Wednesday, To Get Tests For Mumps

News: Ryan Suter (illness) will not play Wednesday against the Canadiens and had blood work done to see if he might be dealing with the mumps, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: While Ryan Suter hasn't experienced the swollen glands typical of the virus, coach Mike Yeo did say that the defensemen had some symptoms that concerned the team. If doctors determine that Suter has the mumps, he'd become the fifth blueliner on the team to have been affected by it. Jonas Brodin, Christian Folin, Marco Scandella and Keith Ballard all missed multiple games with the virus.

Wild's Suter Expects To Play Despite Illness

News: Ryan Suter sat out Tuesday' practice due to an illness but expects to play Wednesday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter is not totally healthy, but it sound like he will be healthy enough to play Wednesday against the Canadiens.

Wild's Suter Racks Up PIM In Win

News: Ryan Suter was charged with four penalties and spent a total of eight minutes in the box during Sunday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The penalties didn't put too much of a dent into Ryan Suter's league-leading minutes total, as he saw only about 50 seconds less of ice time than the 29:13 he's averaging for the season. The blueliner was able to finish the game with a plus-1 rating to bring his mark up to plus-10 over 17 games, but he's fallen into a bit of a scoring drought of late. Suter has collected only one point over his last six contests.

Wild's Suter Registers Assist

News: Ryan Suter picked up an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Ryan Suter has now registered an assist in five of the team's last six contests, to give him seven on the season. He's been as dependable on the blue line as expected, with a plus-10 rating and an average of 29:00 minutes of ice time to go along with his eight points in 11 games. He should continue to be among the top defensemen going forward.

Wild's Suter Picks Up Point

News: Ryan Suter registered an assist in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: As was expected heading into the season, Ryan Suter leads the league in average ice time (28:25) over his seven games, but it's his contributions in the scoring categories and plus/minus rating that have made him one of the most valuable fantasy blueliners thus far. Suter's plus-7 rating is good for a tie for second place among all defensemen, while his five points in seven games are also a tick better than the per-game point production he provided in 2013-14.

Suter Has Goal And Assist in Season Opener

News: Ryan Suter had a goal and an assist in 26 minutes of ice time in Thursday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: Ryan Suter led the NHL in ice time by averaging 29:25 last season. His 25:63 in Thursday's game may be a byproduct of a blowout rather than the team trying to give him more rest this year. Either way, Suter should contribute heavily in the Wild's offense.

Wild's Suter Gathers Two Assists In Game 6

News: Ryan Suter picked up two assists in Friday's Game 6 win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ryan Suter also exceeded the 30-minute mark for the fifth time this postseason, hardly a surprise given the massive minute total he accumulated during the regular season. He has a goal and six assists to go along with a minus-3 rating over the Wild's 11 playoff games.

Wild's Suter Picks Up Two Helpers In Game 6

News: Ryan Suter gathered two assists in Monday's Game 6 win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Ryan Suter did well to find Zach Parise for the game's first goal less than a minute in, but had a bad turnover later in the first period that resulted in a short-handed goal for the Avs' Paul Stastny. As was common during the regular season, Suter has seen heavy minutes throughout the series, providing a goal and three assists in his six contests.

Minnesota's Suter Getting Some Rest

News: Ryan Suter was on the ice for just 11:19 in Thursday's win over St. Louis, which is 18 minutes lower than his average, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter entered the game as the NHL leader in ice time per game (29:30), but it looks like the Wild will give him some rest for the final games of the regular season with Minnesota clinching a playoff spot.

Wild's Suter Scores Point In Fourth Straight Game

News: Ryan Suter registered an assist in Wednesday's loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: That gives Ryan Suter points in four straight games, boosting his season total to 41 over 73 contests. While Suter doesn't score at the same prodigious rate as some of the elite fantasy options at his position, like Erik Karlsson, Duncan Keith and Shea Weber, he's especially valuable in leagues that use time on ice as a statistic. Suter's 29:46 average TOI per game leads the NHL by almost two-and-a-half minutes.

Wild's Suter Picks Up Three Assists For Americans

News: Ryan Suter picked up three assists in the Americans' 5-2 win over the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
Analysis: They were the first points of the Olympics for Ryan Suter, who has typically provided his best work at the back end for the United States. He'll be counted on heavily to prop up goalie Jonathan Quick on Friday against a Canada squad with tons of firepower offensively.

Wild's Suter Without Points Thus Far In Sochi

News: Ryan Suter hasn't yet provided any scoring over three games for the United States in the Winter Olympics.
Analysis: The Americans are relying on Ryan Suter more for his solid play in front of the net, and he's done just fine in that regard, leading the team in shifts in two of their three games. Given the ample workload he's received in Sochi thus far in addition to the league-leading 29:50 of ice time he was averaging for the Wild, there's some legitimate concern about Suter wearing down after the break.

Suter Tallies In Wild's Home Win

News: Ryan Suter notched his sixth goal of the campaign in Saturday's 3-2 win over Dallas.
Analysis: Minnesota doesn't have any elite scorers, but since Ryan Suter's a blueliner, his 6-25-31 slate makes him very attractive in leagues with position-eligibility requirements.

Wild Man Suter Nets Hat Trick

News: Ryan Suter scored three goals in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Capitals. He's currently on a four-game, seven-point (five goals, two assists) streak and he's been held off the scoresheet just once in his last 12 games.
Analysis: Yes, you read that right -- Ryan Suter is on fire with 14 points in his last 12 games (he'd been pointless in eight games prior). His 29 points now rank seventh in the NHL. You know what to do.

Preds' Suter Scoring Steadily

News: Ryan Suter dished out a pair of assists and went plus-3 Thursday against Buffalo, his third straight game with a point.
Analysis: He'd scored his first two goals of the year in the prior two games. Ryan Suter's quite hot right now, having recorded a point in 10 of his last 11 contests after suffering through an extended slump in late November and early December.

Suter Scores Again In Wild Loss

News: Ryan Suter scored Minnesota's lone goal in Tuesday's loss to St. Louis, giving him four points in the last five games.
Analysis: Owners won't be too happy with his minus-5 rating over the last four games, but they won't complain much about his snagging his first two goals of the season. Ryan Suter has never been a huge goal scorer in his career, but he appears on pace for another solid season challenging 50 points.

News: Ryan Suter scored his first goal of the season Sunday against the Islanders. He also logged 33:14 of ice time and had five shots on goal.

Suter Pads Assist Total In Wild's Road Win

News: Ryan Suter logged his 18th assist of the season in Saturday's win at Colorado.

Minutes Piling Up For Wild's Suter

News: Ryan Suter has accumulated 108 minutes of ice time over the Wild's last three games, the most in a three-game stretch since time on ice became an official stat in 2000, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Ryan Suter's average TOI of 29:44 per game leads the NHL and is a full two minutes more than the second-place skater, Calgary's Dennis Wideman, making him gold in leagues that use TOI as a fantasy stat. While Suter will continue to log heavy minutes for the Wild moving forward, it's not hard to envision him wearing down from the heavy workload sooner or later, particularly with the Olympic schedule not granting him much respite.
