Canucks' Edler Picks Up Power-Play Assist

News: Alexander Edler assisted on a Radim Vrbata power-play goal in Tuesday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: While his offensive production hasn't been great, Alexander Edler is playing a much better all-around game this season than he did in 2013-14. With three goals and nine points in 25 games, Edler is still on pace to hit the 30-point mark for the fifth time in his career. With Dam Hamhuis (groin) sidelined, Edler will be counted on even more than he was before, meaning we should see a spike in his production. His plus-5 rating this season is a huge improvement over his NHL-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Tally

News: Alexander Edler bagged a power-play goal in Thursday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has recorded three goals this season -- all on the power play. The 28-year-old is having a great bounce-back season thus far, tallying seven points in 14 games, to go with a plus-5 rating. With Vancouver's new offensive acquisitions continuing to produce, expect Edler to continue piling up points, especially on the power play.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Edler netted a power-play goal in Sunday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis: Alexander Edler had gone four straight games without a point, but ended the drought Sunday against the Predators. Edler, who logged a season-high 28:09 of ice time in the loss, now has five points (two goals) in 12 games on the year. Edler is looking much better than he was last last season and should post 30-40 points in 2014-15. After posting an league-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14, Edler is a plus-2 so far this season.

Canucks' Edler Scores First Of Season

News: Alexander Edler scored his first goal of the season on the power play and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has opened the season with three points in his first four games, to go with a minus-1 rating. Edler is a workhorse on the blueline, where he averages 23:08 of ice time per game, including 3:27 on the power play, where he lines up alongside the likes of Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Radim Vrbata. If four games is any indication, Edler is on his way to a nice rebound season with Vancouver.

Canucks' Edler Tallies Two Points In Preseason Win

News: Alexander Edler picked up a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating in 21:11 of ice time in Thursday's preseason win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Alexander Edler looked very good on Thursday, showing reminiscence of the 49-point player he was in 2011-12. With some new offensive firepower up front in Radim Vrbata, Nick Bonino, and Linden Vey, there is a very good chance Edler rebounds in 2014-15 after two seasons of declining production. Edler could very well be the steal of your fantasy draft.

Canucks' Edler Is Fine After Taking Puck To Face

News: Alexander Edler is fine after taking a puck to the face in Tuesday's preseason win over San Jose. He chipped a tooth and should be skating Friday, Sportsnet's Irfaan Gaffar reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler, who left Tuesday's game and didn't return, will miss Thursday's preseason tilt with the Flames. He'll slot back into the lineup in the next few days.

Canucks' Edler Leaves Tuesday's Game With Injury

News: Alexander Edler left Tuesday's preseason game against the Sharks after taking a puck to the face. He did not return, TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: It's unknown the severity of Alexander Edler's injury, but he will be evaluated Wednesday. The 28-year-old blueliner logged just 2:02 of ice time on Tuesday before being forced to leave the game with an "upper-body injury". After posting a league-worst minus-39 rating last season, Edler will be looking for a big bounce back campaign in 2014-2015.

Canucks' Edler Likely To Remain In Vancouver

News: The Canucks are unlikely to ask Alexander Edler to waive his no-trade clause, according to hockey operations president Trevor Linden.
Analysis: Even though Alexander Edler had a disastrous season, finishing with the worst plus-minus rating in the league (minus-39), Linden believes Edler possesses all the tools to be a dominant No. 1 defenseman. "There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't have it's hand up for the opportunity to have an Alex Edler. It's not in our consideration. We want to work with Alex; we have to get his game back, and I know he's committed to doing that." A new coach and fresh start might be what is needed for Edler, who has seen his production dip after posting a career-high 11 goals and 49 points in the 2011-2012 season.

Canucks' Edler Finishes With Worst Plus-Minus

News: Alexander Edler finished the season with the worst plus-minus rating (minus-39) in the entire NHL.
Analysis: It was quite the disastrous season for Alexander Edler, who went minus-7 over the final four games of the season. He finished with seven goals and 22 points in 63 games -- his lowest full-season point total since the 2007-2008 campaign. Edler's power-play time dipped to 2:51 per game, which is the lowest it has ever been in his six NHL seasons thus far. Looking at the positives, his 178 shots on goal were the second-highest of his career, and he collected a somewhat fantasy-relevant 50 PIM.

Edler's PPG Carries Canucks Over LA

News: Alexander Edler bagged an assist and a power-play goal during a third-period surge that carried the Canucks past the Kings on Saturday.
Analysis: His plus-1 rating on the night barely puts a dent in his ghastly season-long rating, which now stands at minus-32. This season has been a major disappointment for Alexander Edler in nearly every relevant metric.

Canucks' Edler Fires Seven Shots On Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Edler fired seven shots on goal, but was held off the scoresheet in 24:38 of ice time in Thursday's overtime loss to Colorado.
Analysis: A strong performance from Alexander Edler, who was held without a point for the third straight game. He did see 3:30 of power-play time on Thursday, so the offensive opportunities are definitely there. Edler has six goals and 19 points in 56 games this season.

Canucks' Edler Scores On Power Play In Win

News: Alexander Edler blasted home his sixth goal of the season -- a power-play tally -- in Wednesday's win over Nashville.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has now notched a point in three straight games, giving him six goals and 13 assists in 53 games on the season. His offensive game is picking up, but he continues to struggle defensively. Edler's minus-29 rating is tied for third-worst in the NHL.

Canucks' Edler Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Alexander Edler racked up an assist in Thursday's loss to Dallas. It was his first point in five games.
Analysis: Alexander Edler only has 16 points in 46 games this season, putting him on pace for his worst offensive season since the 2007-08 campaign. He is a team-worst minus-27 this season, and has struggled to provide offense to a Canucks team that has lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Canucks' Edler Returns To NHL Action Wednesday

News: Alexander Edler will return to NHL action on Wednesday after winning a silver medal with Team Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
Analysis: Alexander Edler only played in four games in the tournament due to suspension, but still racked up a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating. Edler had picked up his offense heading into the break, recording two goals and two assists in his last six NHL games.

Canucks' Edler: Picks Up Two Points For Swedes

News: Alexander Edler (suspension) had a goal and assist in his return to the ice for Sweden on Saturday.
Analysis: Suspended for the first two games of the Olympics due to an illegal hit in a previous international tournament, Alexander Edler returned in a big way to help the Swedes dispatch Latvia and claim a spot in the quarterfinals. His third-period goal was the final tally of the game, giving Sweden some necessary breathing room in the 5-3 win.

Canucks' Edler To Miss Sweden's First Two Games

News: Alexander Edler will miss Team Sweden's first two games of the 2014 Winter Olympics due to suspension, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: The banishment stems from a knee-to-knee hit on Eric Staal of Canada during Alexander Edler's previous international appearance in the 2013 World Championship. He'll be eligible to return to the ice Saturday against Latvia, at which point the Swedes may have already clinched a spot in the next round.

Canucks' Edler Nets Fifth Of Season

News: Alexander Edler scored his fifth goal of the season in Thursday's loss to Montreal. He also led all players with eight shots on goal.
Analysis: Alexander Edler also finished the night with four hits, while leading the team with 23:47 of ice time. His goal came on the power play, where he logged over five minutes of man advantage time. Edler now has five points in 13 games since returning from a knee injury in mid-January. His offensive game is picking up, but he was a minus-3 on Thursday, giving him a horrific minus-22 rating on the season.

Canucks' Edler Scores Goal Friday

News: Alexander Edler scored his fourth goal of the season during Friday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Alexander Edler's goal came on the power play and was his fist since November 22. He's got points in his last two games, but just four throughout the month of January. The 27-year-old defenseman is more stay-at-home and shouldn't be counted on for much in the way of points.

Canucks' Edler Nabs Power-Play Assist In Win

News: Alexander Edler picked up a power-play assist while logging a season-high 29:22 in Saturday's shootout win over the Flames. He now has two points in four games since returning from a knee injury.
Analysis: After putting up only nine points in 28 games prior to his injury, Alexander Edler has impressed since his return. Even though he has been bumped of the top power-play unit, his last two assists have come with the man advantage. Do not be put off by his early-season struggles, Edler is an elite defenseman who is worth a look in all leagues.

Canucks' Edler Logs 21:55 In Return

News: Alexander Edler logged 21:55 of ice time in Monday's loss to the Kings. It was his first game back after missing 16 games with a knee injury.
Analysis: Alexander Edler didn't look out of place in his return on Monday, dishing out six hits and firing two shots on goal. He only has nine points in 28 games, but has the potential to put up good totals in the second half of the season. If he is available in your league, he is worth keeping an eye on, as he possesses some great offensive talent.

Canucks' Edler Returns Monday

News: Alexander Edler (knee) will return to the lineup for Monday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: Alexander Edler had missed the past 16 games with the injury, and has struggled when healthy this season, collecting only nine points in 27 games to go alongside a minus-12 rating. Despite his struggles, Edler has tremendous offensive capability, and his return will provide a big boost to a Vancouver team that has lost five of their last six games.

Canucks Activate Edler From IR

News: Alexander Edler (knee) has been activated from injured reserve, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler will likely be in the lineup Monday against the Kings, marking his first game action since Dec. 3. Prior to landing on IR, the defenseman was marginally productive on the offensive end with three goals and six assists in 27 games, but a minus-12 rating might have submarined some of that value.

Canucks' Edler Out Friday

News: Alexander Edler (knee) will not play Friday vs. the Blues.
Analysis: Despite reportedly making good progress in his recovery in recent days, Alexander Edler has yet to receive clearance to return to game action. The Canucks have offered no official timetable for when that might finally happen.

Canucks' Edler Skating With Team

News: Alexander Edler (knee) has been skating with the team and is close to returning, the Vancouver Province's Jim Jamieson reports.
Analysis: There is yet to be a set date for Alexander Edler's return, but he appears very close to getting back into action. Edler has missed 15 games with the knee injury and has struggled when healthy, collecting only nine points in 27 games to go along with a minus-12 rating. He has offensive potential, though, meaning he could put up some decent totals when he returns.

Canucks' Edler Tests Knee

News: Alexander Edler took the ice to test out his injured knee Monday morning, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler was simply testing the knee out, so this shouldn't be viewed as a true return to practice. He's been out for nearly four weeks and remains without a timetable. Prior to suffering the injury, Elder had a disappointing nine points through 27 appearances.
