Canucks' Edler Assists In Win

News: Alexander Edler handed out an assist on Nick Bonino's second-period goal in Thursday's Game 5 win over the Flames.
Analysis: The Canucks have largely been bereft of offensively production from their blue line this season, but Alexander Edler has done his part to alter that narrative over the last month-plus. Dating back to March 17, Edler has posted three goals and 14 assists over 19 games. That's elite production for a defenseman, and until he cools over an extended period of time, Edler should be held in high regard by those in playoff pools.

Canucks' Edler Takes Ice For Warmups

News: Alexander Edler (undisclosed) is on the ice for pregame warmups, and he is expected to play in Sunday's Game 3 against the Flames, TSN's Farhan Lalji reports.
Analysis: The same goes for Kevin Bieksa (undislocsed), after both defensemen missed morning skate. Barring a setback during warmups, Alexander Edler and Bieksa will play.

Canucks' Edler Skips Sunday Skate

News: Alexander Edler (undisclosed) did not participate in Sunday's pre-game skate, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: The same applies to fellow blueliner Kevin Bieksa, with the report suggesting that the duo will likely play Sunday against the Flames. Confirmation of that outcome -- either way -- is thus slated to arrive during warmups in advance of Game 3.

Canucks' Edler Nets Three Points In Win

News: Alexander Edler potted the overtime-winning goal and added two assists Saturday against Edmonton.
Analysis: Alexander Edler is on fire and enters the playoffs having recorded back-to-back three-point games. He finishes the regular season on a four-game point streak, giving him eight goals and 31 points in 74 games on the season. Considering that he's on fire right now and has historically been a decent playoff performer, Edler wouldn't be a bad pick in a playoff pool, especially if you're counting on the Canucks getting past the Flames.

Canucks' Edler Experiencing Late-Season Warming

News: Alexander Edler picked up a hat trick of assists -- two of them on power plays -- Thursday in a win over Arizona, marking his third straight game on the scoresheet.
Analysis: He's dishing out helpers with alacrity as the season winds down, and hey, another multi-point game in the season finale Saturday would push him to the 30-point mark for the first time since 2011-12.

Canucks' Edler Gets Assist In Second Straight

News: Alexander Edler picked up an assist in his second straight game Monday against the Kings.
Analysis: Alexander Edler's goal and point totals are quite similar to a season ago, but he's made his most significant jump in the plus-minus department. After going a horrid minus-39 in 2013-14, Edler is up to plus-10 this season, mostly a byproduct of playing on a far more competitive squad.

Canucks' Edler Nets Game-Winner Sunday

News: Alexander Edler tallied the game-winning goal on the power play and fired five shots on goal Sunday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Alexander Edler's been heating up of late, picking up four points in his last four games and recording 13 shots on goal in his last two outings. While's he's been inconsistent this season, the 28-year-old has recorded 21 points and a plus-12 rating in 64 games. He may be hard-pressed to hit the 30-point mark this season, but with five power-play goals and 155 shots on goal, he's a solid all-around fantasy defenseman.

Canucks' Edler Snaps Lengthy Drought

News: Alexander Edler recorded a goal and an assist Tuesday in a win over the Flyers, snapping a nine-game pointless skid.
Analysis: Nice to see Alexander Edler back on the scoresheet, picking up as many points Tuesday as he had in the prior 18 games combined, but he simply hasn't provided much fantasy utility this year. While he has at least reversed course on last season's league-worst minus-39 rating, his scoring rate has gotten even worse -- 19 points in 61 games -- and his shooting rate has dropped precipitously.

Canucks' Edler Set To Return Thursday

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) is no longer listed on the Canucks' injured reserve list and is on track to play Thursday against the Coyotes, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler resumed practicing fully earlier this week and was a full participant in morning skate without any issues. He'll slot in on a defensive pair with Yannick Weber, while also assuming on spot on the Canucks' top power-play unit. Frank Corrado will exit the lineup to make room for Edler, who will make his first appearance since Feb. 14.

Canucks' Edler Gets In Full Practice

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler's involvement with his teammates could suggest that a return is on the horizon. While it appears unlikely that he would be activated from IR in advance of Tuesday's tilt with the Sharks, if Edler is able to practice the next two days, he could be ready to play Thursday in Arizona.

Canucks' Edler Resumes Skating

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) resumed skating back in Vancouver on Wednesday, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: The news offers some indication that Alexander Edler is making progress, but he still shouldn't be considered close to a return until he starts taking full-contact practice with the rest of the team. The Canucks are still listing him as week-to-week.

Canucks Move Edler To IR

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Alexander Edler is being listed as week-to-week and had already been ruled out for the Canucks' five-game road trip that begins Thursday in New York. By placing Edler on IR, the team was able to open up a roster spot for an extra defenseman in Bobby Sanguinetti, who was recalled from AHL Utica on Thursday.

Canucks' Edler Considered Week-To-Week

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) is considered week-to-week, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
Analysis: The distinction hints that Alexander Edler is unlikely to play in Thursday's game against the Rangers after he missed Monday's win over the Wild. Meanwhile, fellow defenseman Chris Tanev (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day.

Canucks' Edler Sidelined On Monday

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) won't play Monday against the Wild, the Province reports.
Analysis: Consider Alexander Edler day-to-day as Thursday's game against the Rangers approaches. In Edler's absence Monday, look for Yannick Weber to join the Canucks' blue line mix after being a scratch the last three games.

Canucks' Edler Not On The Ice Monday

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was not present for Monday's morning skate, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler, who suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's game against the Flames, thus remains in the day-to-day category in advance of Monday's game against the Wild.

Canucks Rule Edler Out With Upper-Body Injury

News: Alexander Edler suffered an upper-body injury in the second period of Saturday's game against the Flames and will not return, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: This is certainly a troubling scenario for a Vancouver defensive unit that is already down a top-four member in Kevin Bieksa (broken hand). Alexander Edler should be viewed as day-to-day until the team provides a clearer update on his injury situation.

Orca's Edler Leaves Game In Second Period

News: Alexander Edler did not play the last 13:16 of the second period of Saturday's game; there is no word on the reason for his absence.
Analysis: Analysts from CBC's Hockey Night in Canada have been poring over the footage to see what might have happened, but nothing seems all that out of place. The Orcas will struggle without him if it's serious.

Canucks' Edler Finds Twine In Loss

News: Alexander Edler scored the lone Canucks' goal in Tuesday's loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Alexander Edler is having a decent season for the Canucks, but fantasy-wise, we're left wanting more. The 28-year-old has notched five goals and 14 points in 41 games, putting him on track to fall just short of the 30-point barrier. Edler has helped fantasy owners with a healthy 111 shots on goal and 75 blocked shots, but the Canucks are fading, meaning it's unlikely we see a second-half surge from the former 49-point-getter. Averaging a whopping 24:25 of ice time, Edler could see his production increase if the Canucks get back on track, but keep in the mind the blueliner had just six points in 22 games during the playoff-push stretch at the end of last season.

Canucks' Edler Scores Power-Play Goal

News: Alexander Edler scored a power-play goal, had an assist, fired five shots on goal, and logged a game-high 27:17 of ice time in Saturday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Alexander Edler now has four points in his last five games, giving him four goals (all on the power play) and 13 points in 37 games on the season, to go with a plus-5 rating. While he hasn't been a huge offensive force this season, the 28-year-old is still on track for 25-30 points, making him a dependable fantasy option in most formats.

Canucks' Edler Helps Out

News: Alexander Edler gathered an assist and finished with a plus-2 rating over his 25:13 of ice time Tuesday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Alexander Edler boosted his season plus/minus mark to plus-4, a drastic jump from the league-worst minus-39 he posted in 2013-14. Despite that improvement, Edler hasn't quite reemerged as the above-average offensive threat the Canucks were counting on from the blue line. The two-time 40-point scorer has a modest three goals and eight assists over 35 contests.

Canucks' Edler Picks Up Power-Play Assist

News: Alexander Edler assisted on a Radim Vrbata power-play goal in Tuesday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: While his offensive production hasn't been great, Alexander Edler is playing a much better all-around game this season than he did in 2013-14. With three goals and nine points in 25 games, Edler is still on pace to hit the 30-point mark for the fifth time in his career. With Dam Hamhuis (groin) sidelined, Edler will be counted on even more than he was before, meaning we should see a spike in his production. His plus-5 rating this season is a huge improvement over his NHL-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Tally

News: Alexander Edler bagged a power-play goal in Thursday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has recorded three goals this season -- all on the power play. The 28-year-old is having a great bounce-back season thus far, tallying seven points in 14 games, to go with a plus-5 rating. With Vancouver's new offensive acquisitions continuing to produce, expect Edler to continue piling up points, especially on the power play.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Edler netted a power-play goal in Sunday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis: Alexander Edler had gone four straight games without a point, but ended the drought Sunday against the Predators. Edler, who logged a season-high 28:09 of ice time in the loss, now has five points (two goals) in 12 games on the year. Edler is looking much better than he was last last season and should post 30-40 points in 2014-15. After posting an league-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14, Edler is a plus-2 so far this season.

Canucks' Edler Scores First Of Season

News: Alexander Edler scored his first goal of the season on the power play and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has opened the season with three points in his first four games, to go with a minus-1 rating. Edler is a workhorse on the blueline, where he averages 23:08 of ice time per game, including 3:27 on the power play, where he lines up alongside the likes of Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Radim Vrbata. If four games is any indication, Edler is on his way to a nice rebound season with Vancouver.

Canucks' Edler Tallies Two Points In Preseason Win

News: Alexander Edler picked up a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating in 21:11 of ice time in Thursday's preseason win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Alexander Edler looked very good on Thursday, showing reminiscence of the 49-point player he was in 2011-12. With some new offensive firepower up front in Radim Vrbata, Nick Bonino, and Linden Vey, there is a very good chance Edler rebounds in 2014-15 after two seasons of declining production. Edler could very well be the steal of your fantasy draft.
