Canucks' Edler Gets In Full Practice

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler's involvement with his teammates could suggest that a return is on the horizon. While it appears unlikely that he would be activated from IR in advance of Tuesday's tilt with the Sharks, if Edler is able to practice the next two days, he could be ready to play Thursday in Arizona.

Canucks' Edler Resumes Skating

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) resumed skating back in Vancouver on Wednesday, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 AM reports.
Analysis: The news offers some indication that Alexander Edler is making progress, but he still shouldn't be considered close to a return until he starts taking full-contact practice with the rest of the team. The Canucks are still listing him as week-to-week.

Canucks Move Edler To IR

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Alexander Edler is being listed as week-to-week and had already been ruled out for the Canucks' five-game road trip that begins Thursday in New York. By placing Edler on IR, the team was able to open up a roster spot for an extra defenseman in Bobby Sanguinetti, who was recalled from AHL Utica on Thursday.

Canucks' Edler Considered Week-To-Week

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) is considered week-to-week, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
Analysis: The distinction hints that Alexander Edler is unlikely to play in Thursday's game against the Rangers after he missed Monday's win over the Wild. Meanwhile, fellow defenseman Chris Tanev (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day.

Canucks' Edler Sidelined On Monday

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) won't play Monday against the Wild, the Province reports.
Analysis: Consider Alexander Edler day-to-day as Thursday's game against the Rangers approaches. In Edler's absence Monday, look for Yannick Weber to join the Canucks' blue line mix after being a scratch the last three games.

Canucks' Edler Not On The Ice Monday

News: Alexander Edler (upper body) was not present for Monday's morning skate, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler, who suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's game against the Flames, thus remains in the day-to-day category in advance of Monday's game against the Wild.

Canucks Rule Edler Out With Upper-Body Injury

News: Alexander Edler suffered an upper-body injury in the second period of Saturday's game against the Flames and will not return, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: This is certainly a troubling scenario for a Vancouver defensive unit that is already down a top-four member in Kevin Bieksa (broken hand). Alexander Edler should be viewed as day-to-day until the team provides a clearer update on his injury situation.

Orca's Edler Leaves Game In Second Period

News: Alexander Edler did not play the last 13:16 of the second period of Saturday's game; there is no word on the reason for his absence.
Analysis: Analysts from CBC's Hockey Night in Canada have been poring over the footage to see what might have happened, but nothing seems all that out of place. The Orcas will struggle without him if it's serious.

Canucks' Edler Finds Twine In Loss

News: Alexander Edler scored the lone Canucks' goal in Tuesday's loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Alexander Edler is having a decent season for the Canucks, but fantasy-wise, we're left wanting more. The 28-year-old has notched five goals and 14 points in 41 games, putting him on track to fall just short of the 30-point barrier. Edler has helped fantasy owners with a healthy 111 shots on goal and 75 blocked shots, but the Canucks are fading, meaning it's unlikely we see a second-half surge from the former 49-point-getter. Averaging a whopping 24:25 of ice time, Edler could see his production increase if the Canucks get back on track, but keep in the mind the blueliner had just six points in 22 games during the playoff-push stretch at the end of last season.

Canucks' Edler Scores Power-Play Goal

News: Alexander Edler scored a power-play goal, had an assist, fired five shots on goal, and logged a game-high 27:17 of ice time in Saturday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Alexander Edler now has four points in his last five games, giving him four goals (all on the power play) and 13 points in 37 games on the season, to go with a plus-5 rating. While he hasn't been a huge offensive force this season, the 28-year-old is still on track for 25-30 points, making him a dependable fantasy option in most formats.

Canucks' Edler Helps Out

News: Alexander Edler gathered an assist and finished with a plus-2 rating over his 25:13 of ice time Tuesday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Alexander Edler boosted his season plus/minus mark to plus-4, a drastic jump from the league-worst minus-39 he posted in 2013-14. Despite that improvement, Edler hasn't quite reemerged as the above-average offensive threat the Canucks were counting on from the blue line. The two-time 40-point scorer has a modest three goals and eight assists over 35 contests.

Canucks' Edler Picks Up Power-Play Assist

News: Alexander Edler assisted on a Radim Vrbata power-play goal in Tuesday's win over the Capitals.
Analysis: While his offensive production hasn't been great, Alexander Edler is playing a much better all-around game this season than he did in 2013-14. With three goals and nine points in 25 games, Edler is still on pace to hit the 30-point mark for the fifth time in his career. With Dam Hamhuis (groin) sidelined, Edler will be counted on even more than he was before, meaning we should see a spike in his production. His plus-5 rating this season is a huge improvement over his NHL-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Tally

News: Alexander Edler bagged a power-play goal in Thursday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has recorded three goals this season -- all on the power play. The 28-year-old is having a great bounce-back season thus far, tallying seven points in 14 games, to go with a plus-5 rating. With Vancouver's new offensive acquisitions continuing to produce, expect Edler to continue piling up points, especially on the power play.

Canucks' Edler Nets Power-Play Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Edler netted a power-play goal in Sunday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis: Alexander Edler had gone four straight games without a point, but ended the drought Sunday against the Predators. Edler, who logged a season-high 28:09 of ice time in the loss, now has five points (two goals) in 12 games on the year. Edler is looking much better than he was last last season and should post 30-40 points in 2014-15. After posting an league-worst minus-39 rating in 2013-14, Edler is a plus-2 so far this season.

Canucks' Edler Scores First Of Season

News: Alexander Edler scored his first goal of the season on the power play and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has opened the season with three points in his first four games, to go with a minus-1 rating. Edler is a workhorse on the blueline, where he averages 23:08 of ice time per game, including 3:27 on the power play, where he lines up alongside the likes of Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Radim Vrbata. If four games is any indication, Edler is on his way to a nice rebound season with Vancouver.

Canucks' Edler Tallies Two Points In Preseason Win

News: Alexander Edler picked up a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating in 21:11 of ice time in Thursday's preseason win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Alexander Edler looked very good on Thursday, showing reminiscence of the 49-point player he was in 2011-12. With some new offensive firepower up front in Radim Vrbata, Nick Bonino, and Linden Vey, there is a very good chance Edler rebounds in 2014-15 after two seasons of declining production. Edler could very well be the steal of your fantasy draft.

Canucks' Edler Is Fine After Taking Puck To Face

News: Alexander Edler is fine after taking a puck to the face in Tuesday's preseason win over San Jose. He chipped a tooth and should be skating Friday, Sportsnet's Irfaan Gaffar reports.
Analysis: Alexander Edler, who left Tuesday's game and didn't return, will miss Thursday's preseason tilt with the Flames. He'll slot back into the lineup in the next few days.

Canucks' Edler Leaves Tuesday's Game With Injury

News: Alexander Edler left Tuesday's preseason game against the Sharks after taking a puck to the face. He did not return, TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: It's unknown the severity of Alexander Edler's injury, but he will be evaluated Wednesday. The 28-year-old blueliner logged just 2:02 of ice time on Tuesday before being forced to leave the game with an "upper-body injury". After posting a league-worst minus-39 rating last season, Edler will be looking for a big bounce back campaign in 2014-2015.

Canucks' Edler Likely To Remain In Vancouver

News: The Canucks are unlikely to ask Alexander Edler to waive his no-trade clause, according to hockey operations president Trevor Linden.
Analysis: Even though Alexander Edler had a disastrous season, finishing with the worst plus-minus rating in the league (minus-39), Linden believes Edler possesses all the tools to be a dominant No. 1 defenseman. "There isn't a team in the league that wouldn't have it's hand up for the opportunity to have an Alex Edler. It's not in our consideration. We want to work with Alex; we have to get his game back, and I know he's committed to doing that." A new coach and fresh start might be what is needed for Edler, who has seen his production dip after posting a career-high 11 goals and 49 points in the 2011-2012 season.

Canucks' Edler Finishes With Worst Plus-Minus

News: Alexander Edler finished the season with the worst plus-minus rating (minus-39) in the entire NHL.
Analysis: It was quite the disastrous season for Alexander Edler, who went minus-7 over the final four games of the season. He finished with seven goals and 22 points in 63 games -- his lowest full-season point total since the 2007-2008 campaign. Edler's power-play time dipped to 2:51 per game, which is the lowest it has ever been in his six NHL seasons thus far. Looking at the positives, his 178 shots on goal were the second-highest of his career, and he collected a somewhat fantasy-relevant 50 PIM.

Edler's PPG Carries Canucks Over LA

News: Alexander Edler bagged an assist and a power-play goal during a third-period surge that carried the Canucks past the Kings on Saturday.
Analysis: His plus-1 rating on the night barely puts a dent in his ghastly season-long rating, which now stands at minus-32. This season has been a major disappointment for Alexander Edler in nearly every relevant metric.

Canucks' Edler Fires Seven Shots On Goal In Loss

News: Alexander Edler fired seven shots on goal, but was held off the scoresheet in 24:38 of ice time in Thursday's overtime loss to Colorado.
Analysis: A strong performance from Alexander Edler, who was held without a point for the third straight game. He did see 3:30 of power-play time on Thursday, so the offensive opportunities are definitely there. Edler has six goals and 19 points in 56 games this season.

Canucks' Edler Scores On Power Play In Win

News: Alexander Edler blasted home his sixth goal of the season -- a power-play tally -- in Wednesday's win over Nashville.
Analysis: Alexander Edler has now notched a point in three straight games, giving him six goals and 13 assists in 53 games on the season. His offensive game is picking up, but he continues to struggle defensively. Edler's minus-29 rating is tied for third-worst in the NHL.

Canucks' Edler Picks Up Assist In Loss

News: Alexander Edler racked up an assist in Thursday's loss to Dallas. It was his first point in five games.
Analysis: Alexander Edler only has 16 points in 46 games this season, putting him on pace for his worst offensive season since the 2007-08 campaign. He is a team-worst minus-27 this season, and has struggled to provide offense to a Canucks team that has lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Canucks' Edler Returns To NHL Action Wednesday

News: Alexander Edler will return to NHL action on Wednesday after winning a silver medal with Team Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
Analysis: Alexander Edler only played in four games in the tournament due to suspension, but still racked up a goal and an assist, to go with a plus-2 rating. Edler had picked up his offense heading into the break, recording two goals and two assists in his last six NHL games.
