Kaspar inks deal with Flyers

News: The Flyers announced Thursday they signed forwards forwards Lukas Kaspar, Krys Kolanos, Mika Pyorala and Jason Ward and defenseman Joey Mormina to one-year contracts. "Lukas, Krys and Jason are experienced skilled players who have each had a share of NHL time during their careers," Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. "We feel each player solidifies our organizational depth at the forward position. Mika is a 28-year-old player with a wealth of experience in the European Elite Leagues and is capable of playing all forward positions. Joey is a player we are familiar with and drafted back in 2002. He has AHL experience and we feel he will be a positive influence on our young defensemen in Glens Falls, as well as providing depth to the organization."
Analysis: The 23-year-old Kaspar had four points (two goals) in 13 games with the Sharks last season. He also spent time with Worcester of the AHL, recording 44 points (17 goals) in 65 games. Kaspar was San Jose's first-round pick in 2004 (22nd), but never really found his groove as a pro. He could get a chance with the Flyers, but Kaspar is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Sharks recall Kaspar, Staubitz

News: The Sharks recalled forwards Lukas Kaspar and Brad Staubitz Tuesday from its AHL affiliate in Worcester, Mass.
Analysis: Both Kaspar and Staubitz have been recalled numerous times in 2008-09, but just can't seem to stick around for the long run. Neither has much seasonal league Fantasy value and Kaspar has minimal long-term Fantasy appeal.

Kaspar scores second NHL goal

News: Sharks RW Lukas Kaspar scored his second NHL goal in Thursday's win over the Kings.
Analysis: Kaspar was a first-round pick in 2004, but he hasn't lived up to expectations yet. Continue to ignore him in all formats.

Kaspar to see top-line time

News: The San Jose Mercury News reports Sharks coach Todd McLellan made a few changes to his lines Tuesday, putting Lukas Kaspar on the left wing of the top unit with center Joe Thornton and right wing Devin Setoguchi. That means Patrick Marleau moves from the first line to the third, centering Mike Grier and Jonathan Cheechoo. "Ninety-nine percent of that is a function of injury," Coach Todd McLellan said. Marcel Goc is on injured reserve and Tomas Plihal day-to-day with a lower body injury, so the Sharks are thin at center, and McLellan decided the best course of action was to move Marleau back to his former position.
Analysis: Kaspar is a 2004 first-round pick that has spent a great deal of his pro career in the AHL. He has had a few short stints with the team the last two seasons, but now he gets his chance to really showcase his skills for a permanent stay. Kaspar likely won't be on the top line for long, so he remains a wait-and-see Fantasy option.

Kaspar shipped back to AHL

News: Sharks RW Lukas Kaspar has been sent back to Worcester of the AHL.
Analysis: Kaspar, a 2004 first-round pick, has yet to find his offensive groove as a pro and has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Kaspar nets assist after recall

News: Sharks RW Lukas Kaspar was recalled from Worcester of the AHL to fill the roster spot of injury C Jeremy Roenick, who is out at least three weeks with a shoulder injury. He managed an assist Saturday against the Blues and also spent two minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: Kaspar played in 21 games for Worcester and has 13 points. He started the 2008-09 season in San Jose, playing in six games and scoring one goal. The 2004 first-round pick has yet to find his offensive groove as a pro and has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Kaspar clears waivers, in minors

News: Sharks RW Lukas Kaspar cleared waivers and was sent to Worcester of the AHL Tuesday. Kaspar was San Jose’s 2004 first-round draft pick.
Analysis: Kaspar has played just nine NHL games, including six this season. He has had so-so offensive skills since turning pro and hasn't really lived up to the first-round billing. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Sharks waive '04 first-rounder Kaspar

News: The San Jose Mercury News reports the Sharks have placed RW Lukas Kaspar on waivers. Kaspar was San Jose’s 2004 first-round draft pick.
Analysis: Kaspar might get picked up by another team, but he's unlikely to play much in the NHL wherever he ends up unless he suddenly turns his game up. Continue to ignore him in all formats, especially if he ends up in the AHL.

Kaspar OK after puck to face

News: The Sports Xchange reports Sharks RW Lukas Kaspar required several stitches to close a cut on his lip Tuesday after Jody Shelley's pass struck the rookie in the face. Kaspar missed the remaining 17 minutes of the second period but returned for the third. He didn't have a point in 5:30 of ice time.
Analysis: Kaspar, who scored his first NHL goal Sunday, appears to have escaped any serious long-term injury due to Tuesday's incident. Kaspar is a 2004 first-round pick, but has made a slow progression to the NHL. He is currently skating on the fourth line for San Jose, so treat him as nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve.

Kaspar scores first NHL goal

News: Lukas Kaspar scored his first NHL goal and Brian Boucher made 21 saves to lead the Sharks to a 1-0 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday night. Kaspar whisked a wrist shot from the right circle past Kings goalie Jason LaBarbera midway through the second period to help the Sharks continue their flawless start (3-0).
Analysis: Kaspar has now appeared in as many games this season as he did last season as a rookie -- three. But this time he has his first goal. He is a 2004 first-round pick, but has made a slow progression to the NHL. He is currently skating on the fourth line for San Jose, so treat him as nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve.

Kaspar opts to stay with Sharks

News: The Sharks re-signed restricted free agent RW Lukas Kaspar Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: Kaspar appeared in three games as a rookie in 2007-08, totaling zero points and a minus-2 rating. The 22-year-old also spent time with Worcester Sharks totaling 41 points (17 goals) in 73 games. He is a 2004 first-round pick, but has made a slow progression to the NHL. He is not a recommended Fantasy option.

Kaspar added to Sharks' roster

News: The San Jose Sharks placed forward Ryane Clowe (knee) and defenseman Rob Davison (finger) on injured reserve Sunday. The Sharks recalled forwards Devin Setoguchi and Lukas Kaspar from their AHL affiliate in Worcester to take their place.
Analysis: Kaspar, a first-round pick in 2004, has two points in six games with Worcester. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy flier at this time and will likely head back to the minors as soon as a roster spot is needed.

RW Kaspar cut by the Sharks

News: The San Jose Sharks assigned Lukas Kaspar and Graham Mink to Worcester of the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: While each player has a chance to return if injuries open up a spot, neither of the two players are worthy of Fantasy consideration at this time.
