News: The Thrashers recalled Welch from AHL Chicago on Monday, Thrashers radio announcer Dan Kamal reports.
Analysis: Welch appeared in two games with Atlanta earlier this year, but has otherwise spent the bulk of his time in the AHL, notching two goals and 10 assists in 39 games.

News: Welch is expected to make his season debut in Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Ben Wright of the Thrashers' official website reports.

Thrashers' Welch Sent Down to Minors

News: The Thrashers have re-assigned Welch to the team's AHL affiliate, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Analysis: Welch will have to clear waivers before reporting to AHL Chicago. Although he did manage to get into 40 games last year while splitting time with the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, Welch isn't considered a viable fantasy sleeper for the 2010-11 season.

Welch clears waivers

News: Thrashers D Noah Welch has cleared waivers. He will be assigned to the AHL.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Welch has appeared in 73 NHL games with the Penguins, Panthers and Lightning. He split last season between Florida and Tampa Bay, totaling two points (one goal) in 40 games. When healthy, Welch will likely be just a defensive presence for Atlanta and has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Analysis: The 26-year-old Welch has appeared in 73 NHL games with the Penguins, Panthers and Lightning. He split last season between Florida and Tampa Bay, totaling two points (one goal) in 40 games. Welch is merely a defensive presence for Atlanta and has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Welch a healthy scratch Saturday

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning D Noah Welch was a healthy scratch on Saturday against the Thrashers, the first time he has sat out since being acquired from the Florida Panthers on trade deadline day.
Analysis: In seven games with the Lightning, Welch is a minus-5 and has yet to record a point. After logging more than 20 minutes his first two games, Welch has played more than 17 minutes once in the past five games. "It's always a tough situation when you get traded, but when you are in the NHL you are always going to be put in tough situations," Lightning interim coach Rick Tocchet said. "He's been getting a lot of ice time and getting some good opportunities, I think it's good for him to take a game off here and take a look. It's not just him; it's a lot of guys where the urgency is not there. We are looking for guys who make smarter plays and guys who can play under pressure." Welch isn't much of an offensive contributor and has little to no Fantasy value.

Welch now with the Lightning

News: TSN reports the Panthers traded D Noah Welch and a third-round draft pick to the Lightning in exchange for defenseman Steve Eminger.
Analysis: Welch had just one goal, one assist and a minus-5 rating in 23 games with the Panthers. He is set to become a restricted free agent in the offseason, so his time in Tampa could be limited. Welch still has little to no Fantasy value despite the fact he could see regular PT.

Welch finally gets back into rotation

News: Panthers D Noah Welch failed to record a point in 6:25 of ice time Wednesday against the Stars. He has played in the last two games after being a healthy scratch for the first few weeks of January.
Analysis: Welch has dressed for just 20 games this season and hasn't made much of an impact on coach Peter DeBoer. The former Harvard star had potential many moons ago, but the boat has sailed and Welch isn't worth the time of day in Fantasy.

Welch opens scoring account

News: Panthers D Noah Welch scored his first goal of the season in a loss to the Thrashers on Sunday.
Analysis: Welch isn't much of an offensive talent from the blue line, so continue to ignore him in all formats.

Stewart among Florida's scratches

News: Panthers C Anthony Stewart was among the healthy scratches for Florida's season-opening loss to the Hurricanes on Friday night. Also scratched were D Noah Welch and rookie C Michael Frolik.
Analysis: Stewart clinched a roster spot with a nice preseason performance, but he won't be happy to have sat on the bench Friday night. While being in the NHL is nice, no one wants to be a healthy scratch too often. Stewart's Fantasy value remains pretty much zero until he gets some regular playing time.

Welch suits up against Oilers

News: Panthers D Noah Welch (shoulder) was able to play during Wednesday's preseason game against the Oilers. He did not have a point in 23:43 of ice time, but finished at plus-1 and spent two minutes in the penalty box for interference.
Analysis: Welch appeared in just four games last season due to a shoulder injury. He has played in just 33 career NHL games and has a lot to prove. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Panthers could get trio back this week

News: Panthers D Noah Welch, D Mike Van Ryn and C Jozef Stumpel all practiced Friday, according to the Palm Beach Post. Coach Jacques Martin said he expects all three to return "sometime next week."
Analysis: None of these three players have much Fantasy value and don't jump to pick them up off the wire at this point in the season.

Welch practices Tuesday with Panthers

News: Panthers D Noah Welch, who underwent shoulder surgery in November, practiced with his teammates Tuesday for the first time, according to the Miami Herald.
Analysis: Last week, Welch targeted Mar. 4 as his return date, so that gives him just about a week to get himself in game shape. Somehow we don't see that happening, but even when healthy, Welch is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats.

Welch expects to be back on Mar. 4

News: Panthers D Noah Welch says he will be back playing by Mar. 4, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Welch is recovering from shoulder surgery in November.

Welch decides to have surgery

News: The Sports XChange reports: Rookie D Noah Welch is going to have potentially season-ending shoulder surgery in the next few days. Injured in a fight at Montreal on Oct. 16, Welch says the decision wasn't easy to make. "It's been a long two weeks going back-and-forth," Welch said. "It's something that has to be done. Me playing at 75 or 80 percent isn't going to help this team." He said the four-to-six month recovery time "made it so tough," and "I couldn't come to grips with losing the season. I've lost a lot of sleep over it. But now that I've made up my mind, I've been OK with it. I'm trying to turn it into a positive."
Analysis: Welch could return by March, but even when healthy, he is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats.

Welch still debating about surgery

News: The Sports Xchange notes: D Noah Welch says he is having a rough time debating whether to have surgery on his torn labrum in the coming days or to try and rehab the shoulder and return to the ice in a few weeks.
Analysis: If Welch has surgery, he could return by March; if he delays the surgery, he could be back in four to six weeks. When healthy, Welch is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats.

Welch discusses options with doctor

News: The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that D Noah Welch talked with doctors Monday about options for his dislocated shoulder. Panthers coach Jacques Martin said he could either rehab for four to five weeks and opt for surgery after the season ends, or undergo surgery now and likely be out until at least March.
Analysis: When healthy, Welch is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues and long-term keeper formats.

Noah Welch joins Van Ryn

News: The Sports Xchange notes: Defensemen Mike Van Ryn and Noah Welch were in the lineup together for the first time against New Jersey Thursday. Branislav Mezei was the odd man out. "We have seven 'D'," head coach Jacques Martin said, "and I want to use seven 'D'. That's the bottom line."
Analysis: Welch is someone to consider in deeper leagues, but obviously, he the Panthers continue to shuffle their defensemen around in the early part of the season.
