Blue Jackets' Clarkson Out Four To Six Weeks

News: David Clarkson will miss four to six weeks with a torn oblique muscle.
Analysis: David Clarkson initially suffered the injury in the third period of Tuesday's contest against the Capitals in just his third game with his new club. If the winger is out towards the later end of the timetable, his season is likely over, but it's possible he could return for the last few games if it's on the shorter end.

Blue Jackets' Clarkson Sustains Upper-Body Injury

News: David Clarkson sustained an upper-body injury in the third period of Tuesday's game against the Capitals and will not return.
Analysis: Despite leaving with more than half of a period remaining, David Clarkson gave fantasy owners exactly what they expected from him: a two-minute tripping penalty and a 10-minute misconduct penalty to bring his PIM total above the century mark for the season. The extent of his injury isn't immediately clear, but the Blue Jackets should provide a better assessment of his condition either after the game or following Wednesday's practice.

Clarkson Makes Blue Jackets' Debut

News: David Clarkson made his Columbus debut Saturday in a 2-0 loss to the Devils. He had four hits, two SOG, one blocked shot and one minor penalty in 16:13.
Analysis: He skated on the top line with Nick Foligno and Ryan Johansen, an assignment that should put him on your fantasy radar. His most productive season in the NHL came while he skated with Ilya Kovalchuk in New Jersey. He is certainly more than capable of standing in front of the net and banging at rebounds.

Jackets' Clarkson Gets Plum Assignment

News: David Clarkson will skate on the Blue Jackets' top line with Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno on Saturday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Jackets are really rolling out the welcome mat for the new guy. Given David Clarkson's woeful performance in Toronto, there's no reason to rush to your waiver wire yet based on this news, but this is a player with a 30-goal season on his resume. If Clarkson does show any signs of life in his new uniform, he could be worth scooping up.

Leafs' Clarkson Traded To Columbus

News: David Clarkson was traded to the Blue Jackets on Thursday in exchange for Nathan Horton (back).
Analysis: The two teams will swap forwards with undesirable contracts, and while Horton (back) is the more promising player from a talent perspective, it's entirely possible that the former Bruin (and Blue Jacket) will never be able to play again. David Clarkson is healthy, but with just 26 points over the last two seasons, he hasn't come anywhere close to living up to his contract. He will likely skate on the third or fourth line for his new team.

Leafs' Clarkson Ejected For Boarding

News: David Clarkson was ejected after running the Habs' Sergei Gonchar into the boards from behind in Saturday's game.
Analysis: It came on David Clarkson's third shift. He had already gotten into a fight on an earlier shift and then clearly left his brain on the bench when he got back onto the ice. A suspension is likely looming -- Gonchar left the game and did not return. This really wasn't the way to impress a coach who had only just reactivated him from a benching.

Leafs' Clarkson Back In Lineup

News: David Clarkson, who had been a healthy scratch for the last two games, returned to action Thursday against the Islanders. He had one SOG and two hits in 10:35.
Analysis: He played a smarter game than usual -- he didn't get into scrums after the whistle and pursued the puck well. It didn't deliver any points, but at least he's back in the lineup.

Leafs' Clarkson Sits Again

News: David Clarkson will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game Tuesday against the Rangers, the Toronto Star reports.
Analysis: Coach Peter Horachek indicated that his decision to sit David Clarkson again is about keeping the Leafs' lineup intact after the team snapped an 11-game losing streak Saturday. To date, Clarkson has recorded 10 goals and five assists in 53 games for the Leafs, who signed him to a seven-year contract in July of 2013 worth an average of $5.25 million per season.

Leafs' Clarkson A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: David Clarkson will be a healthy scratch Saturday against Edmonton, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: The 30-year-old did not take the ice for warmups and the team later confirmed that David Clarkson will indeed watch from the press box as a healthy scratch. It marks Clarkson's first healthy scratch as a member of the Maple Leafs.

Leafs' Clarkson Not On Ice For Warmups

News: David Clarkson did not take the ice for Saturday's pregame warmups, Megan Robinson of Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson skated a little over 11 minutes in Friday's loss to New Jersey. There hasn't been any word of an injury, so his absence may be performance related. Clarkson has chipped in just one goal and one assist in his last 17 games.

Leafs' Clarkson Finds Twine Wednesday

News: David Clarkson potted his 10th goal of the season in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Senators. He finished the night with five hits and four shots on goal over 17:09 of ice time.
Analysis: It's just the second goal in 20 games for David Clarkson, who still looks like one of the worst NHL free-agent signings in recent memory. Though a dependable source for hits and PIM, the winger has produced just 25 points and a minus-23 rating over his 108 games with the Leafs. After the 2014-15 season, he'll still have five years remaining on his contract with an annual cap hit of $5.25 million.

Clarkson Gets First Two-Point Game As Leaf

News: David Clarkson had his first multi-point game with the Leafs in Saturday's win over the Canucks. He scored a goal and added an assist.
Analysis: He now has eight goals and two assists in 26 games and is one point shy of his season total of 11 from last season (60 games). We'd like to see his plus-minus improve, but maybe that's too much to ask for a guy with only one season on the positive side of the ledger. At this pace, he might actually score 25 goals this year. There's plenty of room for that on fantasy rosters.

Leafs' Clarkson Snaps Home Sixth Goal Of Season

News: David Clarkson scored his sixth goal of the season in Thursday's win over the Lightning. It came in his 20th game of the season, a pace that would see him come close to 25 goals this year.
Analysis: Remarkably, it's one more than he scored in 60 games last season with the Buds. He'll never have a season like he did in New Jersey in 2011-12, but he's really playing solid hockey right now. He has two goals in his last three games and three in his last six.

Leafs' Clarkson On 20-Goal Pace

News: David Clarkson scored his fourth goal of the season in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Senators.
Analysis: He has three goals in his last nine games and five points overall (four goals, one assist) in 15 games. That's a 20-plus goal pace. Not bad for a third-line guy.

Leafs' Clarkson: Rebound Season?

News: David Clarkson scored his second goal of the season in Tuesday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: He's already had a better season this year than he had all of last year. He's engaged and creating havoc, and his line has been the most consistent Leaf line this season. He has three points and 17 hits in seven games this season and is on pace to return to fantasy relevance in leagues where hits reign supreme.

Leafs' Clarkson: Game Improving?

News: David Clarkson notched his first goal of the season in Sunday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Last year, it took him until November 19 to get his first goal. He has looked a whole lot better in just three games this year than he ever did all last season. His fantasy value may just be on the rebound. Get in now before others realize he's on the rise.

Leafs' Clarkson Set To Play Wednesday

News: David Clarkson (fractured orbital bone) was on the ice for morning skate and should play Wednesday against the Canadiens, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson will be looking to rebound after a dismal debut season in Toronto, during which injuries and a lengthy suspension limited him to 11 points in 60 games. He'll open 2014-15 on the third line for the Leafs, joining Leo Komarov and Mike Santorelli.

Leafs' Clarkson (Face) Destined For Third Line?

News: David Clarkson (orbital bone) could slot onto the third line this season, suggests Jonas Siegel of Toronto's TSN1050. He may not have shown enough this preseason -- injury aside -- to warrant a top-six role.
Analysis: It's Groundhog Day not only because of the stupid injury, but also because his approach to the game is eerily similar to last season. His fit in Toronto wasn't great last year and we're not sure if it's all that great this year.

Leafs Clarkson (Face): Back On Ice

News: David Clarkson (fractured orbital bone) was on the ice at practice Thursday wearing a full cage, according to CTV Barrie. He skated for about 35 minutes.
Analysis: He was trying to get used to the full cage, which might take some time. Hopefully, he doesn't miss time -- we'll know more when he starts taking hits.

Leafs' Clarkson Expected Back Friday

News: David Clarkson has a fractured orbital bone, but isn't expected to miss any time, David Alter of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson injured his face during a preseason fight, but the fractured bone won't require surgery, and the team expects to have the winger back Friday. Clarkson recorded five goals, six assists, and 93 PIM in 60 games last season.

Leafs Send Clarkson (Face) To Specialist

News: David Clarkson didn't practice Saturday and was slated to see a specialist about the extent of the injury to his right cheekbone that he suffered in a fight Friday night, reports TSN.ca. He was injured in a fight with Cody McCormick of the Sabres.
Analysis: Wow. He was derailed last season by a pointless preseason fight; let's hope that's not the case this time around, too. He desperately needs to get his Leafs career back on track.

Leafs' Clarkson Leaves Game As Precaution

News: David Clarkson left Friday's game against the Sabres for precautionary reasons after a fight two minutes into the third period, according to a report on Toronto's Sportsnet 590TheFAN. He had scored a goal earlier in the game.
Analysis: He made his preseason debut Friday after missing time due to a lower-body injury. It is unknown if the precautionary reasons are related to this injury.

Leafs' Clarkson Expects To Play Friday

News: David Clarkson (lower body) expects to make his preseason debut Friday, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson has been considered day-to-day for most of training camp, and just recently began skating with his team. If he's ready to participate in preseason games, expect Clarkson to be ready to go when the regular season starts.

Leafs' Clarkson Skates

News: David Clarkson (lower body) participated in Monday's morning skate, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson won't play in Monday's pre-season game, but it's a good sign that he's back on the ice. At this point, it doesn't look like his lower body injury will limit him during the regular season at all.

Leafs' Clarkson Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: David Clarkson is dealing with a lower-body injury, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson joined Tyler Bozak as the two out for the practice, with both reportedly dealing with lower-body injuries. They both ocurred during pre-camp workouts, and coach Randy Carlyle believes the injury to Clarkson is minor.
