Leafs' Clarkson Working On Fundamentals

News: David Clarkson is in Florida working out with Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon, all guided by trainer Matt Belfry, according to the New York Times.
Analysis: The workouts have been likened to a hockey school of sorts, where players focus on fundamentals and individual skill work. David Clarkson is clearly committed to doing whatever is needed to start again in Toronto, but we'll see how it translates into game action come September and October.

Leafs' Clarkson Looking Ahead To Better 2014-15

News: David Clarkson is "looking forward to what's ahead" after a horrible start to his career as a Maple Leaf. "It's tough to go through that, when your first impression or start is that," he told Sportsnet. "But that's all behind me. Everything's behind me, and I'm looking forward to what's ahead."
Analysis: We should hope it's behind him. The dude had more fights (nine) than goals (five) and more games missed because of suspension (12) than points (11). Yes, it was that bad. His fantasy value is going to be tied to the potential for power-play time. And in Toronto, that's far from a guarantee. #badfit.

Leafs' Clarkson Snaps Lengthy Goalless Skid

News: David Clarkson tallied his first goal since Feb. 4 in Tuesday's win over the Flames.
Analysis: David Clarkson's goal, just his fifth of the season, held up as the game-winner in the 3-2 victory. The 30-year-old already looks like a bust one season into his seven-year pact with the Leafs, and doesn't figure to remain with the team for the life of the deal.

Leafs' Clarkson Returning Monday

News: David Clarkson (leg) is likely back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson missed just one game with the injury, which he suffered during Friday's practice. Fantasy owners can use him as they normally would.

Leafs Will Sit Clarkson On Saturday

News: David Clarkson (leg) will not play Saturday vs. the Bruins, David Alter of 590 Sportsnet The Fan reports.
Analysis: Saturday's call-up of Frazer McLaren already seemed to provide an early indication that David Clarkson wouldn't be playing against Boston. He's considered day-to-day with the leg injury, which he first sustained during Friday's practice and was then forced to depart early during Saturday's morning skate.

Leafs' Clarkson Leaves Saturday Morning Skate

News: David Clarkson left Saturday's morning skate due to a leg issue, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson seemed to injure his leg towards the end of practice Friday, so apparently the issue could be more serious than originally perceived. They are calling it a muscle pull, so consider him day-to-day and questionable for Saturday's game.

Leafs' Clarkson Destined For Second Line?

News: David Clarkson stayed in Toronto during the Olympic break to work out instead of taking a vacation in the sun, and said he feels the healthiest he has all year, according to the Toronto Star.
Analysis: His coach, Randy Carlyle, was pleased with David Clarkson's decision to stay home and work out. He's rolling Clarkson on the second line with Joffrey Lupul and Nazem Kadri, and that's a huge fantasy upgrade for Clarkson if he sticks there. Watch this carefully and be ready to take advantage.

Leafs' Clarkson (Elbow): Goal In Injury Return

News: David Clarkson scored his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to Florida. He also had seven hits and a minor penalty.
Analysis: It was his first game back from an elbow problem that kept him out two-and-a-half weeks. The minor penalty was ill-timed as the Panthers opened the scoring on the resulting power play. Get him back in there if you use him.

Leafs' Clarkson Takes Line Rushes Tuesday

News: David Clarkson took part in line rushes before Tuesday's game and should be in the lineup against Florida, according to Sportsnet Ontario.
Analysis: Don't expect him to make a big splash as he'll be on the third or fourth line. But feel free to activate him if you use him with any regularity.

Leafs' Clarkson Activated From IR

News: David Clarkson (elbow) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday, Damien Cox of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: With coach Randy Carlyle declaring David Clarkson ready to play following Tuesday's morning skate, his activation suggests that he'll likely be included in the lineup for the game against the Panthers. Carter Ashton (hand) was placed on IR in a corresponding move.

Leafs' Clarkson Poised To Return

News: Though coach Randy Carlyle indicated that David Clarkson's (elbow) participation in Tuesday's game against the Panthers would be a coach's decision, the forward says that he is ready to play, the Toronto Sun reports. "It's going to be good to get playing again," Clarkson said Tuesday. "It has been a tough year but I am excited to get back in tonight."
Analysis: Given that David Clarkson has just three goals and five assists in 36 games to date, fantasy owners can probably afford to take a wait-and-see approach here, in any case.

Leafs' Clarkson Probable For Tuesday

News: David Clarkson (elbow) is "probable" to return Tuesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: As a result of the injury, David Clarkson has been limited to 36 games this season. To make matters worse, he's struggled to produce, carrying just three goals, five assists and a minus-5 rating thus far.

Leafs' Clarkson Still Out Thursday

News: David Clarkson (elbow) was on the ice for the optional morning skate but will not play Thursday vs. the Panthers, Sportsnet 590 The Fan's David Alter reports.
Analysis: Though David Clarkson skated Thursday, he said he still needs to get his stitches removed from his elbow before he receives a timetable to return. He'll visit team doctors later in the day Thursday to get more clarity on his situation.

Leafs' Clarkson Skates

News: David Clarkson (elbow) skated in full gear before practice Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson resumed skating Tuesday morning, and was present at practice Wednesday, although he didn't participate in line rushes. It's possible he could suit up Thursday against the Panthers, but Saturday against the Senators or sometime next week seem like more likely return dates for the winger.

Leafs' Clarkson To Miss Another Week

News: David Clarkson (elbow) will miss at least another week of action, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson has yet to resume practicing since landing on injured reserve with an elbow issue last Friday, making his return to the lineup still a ways off. He's already missed three games with the injury.

Leafs Place Clarkson On IR

News: The Leafs have placed David Clarkson (elbow) on IR, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson, who has three goals and five assists in 36 games to date to go along with 51 PIM, is dealing with a bursa sac issue, according to SPORTSNET 590's David Alter. At this stage, it's unclear how long the winger will be out, but his IR placement ensures that Clarkson will miss at least three games.

Leafs' Clarkson Will Play Tuesday

News: David Clarkson (illness) will play Tuesday against the Bruins, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson missed morning skate with the flu, but was able to rally in the afternoon and take part in pregame warmups without incident. His availability is a major boon for the Leafs, who would have been forced to play a defenseman on the fourth line if Clarkson was unable to go.

Leafs' Clarkson Has Flu

News: David Clarkson is suffering from the flu and may not be able to play Tuesday against the Bruins, according to Sportsnet 590 TheFAN.
Analysis: "He's been up all night driving the bus," coach Randy Carlyle said. That euphemism paints a picture none of us want to visualize. David Clarkson's big body will be missed if he can't go. Roll someone else if you have another option.

Leafs' Clarkson Back in Action

News: David Clarkson (foot) left Thursday's pregame warmups early, but then started the game, according to in-game broadcasters on Sportsnet Ontario.
Analysis: He's good to reactivate, although you won't get any benefit until next game. Use him as you normally would.

Leafs' Clarkson Takes Warmup

News: David Clarkson (foot) participated in pregame warmups Thursday, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: The winger left the morning skate earlier due to soreness in his foot, but now it looks like there's a decent chance he'll be in the lineup. We won't know for sure until the game starts, so the situation is worth monitoring closely.

Leafs' Clarkson Appears Doubtful For Thursday

News: David Clarkson (foot) was forced to leave the ice early during morning skate and looks doubtful for Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson was only on the ice for a few minutes before exiting, although it's unknown whether it was due to a recurrence of his foot injury or at the behest of coach Randy Carlyle. Expect him to sit out Thursday for the second straight game.

Leafs' Clarkson Will Practice

News: David Clarkson (foot) will practice with the team Wednesday, David Alter of Sportsnet 590 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson's presence is a good sign that he'll probably be able to suit up for Thursday's matchup with the Devils. The winger currently has three goals, five assists and 47 PIM through 31 games.

Leafs' Clarkson Unlikely For Tuesday

News: David Clarkson (foot) was not on the ice for morning skate and looks unlikely to play Tuesday vs. the Islanders, TSN reports.
Analysis: Coach Randy Carlyle didn't officially rule David Clarkson out for the game, but the odds would seem to favor the forward sitting out to afford his left foot some more time to heal up. Expect Jerry D'Amigo to fill his lineup spot against the Islanders.

Maple Leafs' Clarkson Remains Day-To-Day

News: After undergoing a CT scan on his left foot Monday, David Clarkson remains day-to-day, Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson likely avoided a serious injury, but he still looks shaky for Tuesday's game against the Islanders. The veteran winger has just eight points in 31 games this season, after tallying 24 points in 48 appearances during the 2012-13 campaign.

Leafs' Clarkson To Have CT Scan

News: David Clarkson is scheduled to have a CT scan on his left foot on Monday, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: David Clarkson left the game Saturday with the foot injury and was able to workout a bit Sunday off the ice. The results of the scan will likely clear up his status, but it could turn into something that keeps him out a few games possibly.
