Preds' Clune Supplies Goal In Finale

News: Richard Clune registered his third goal of the season in Sunday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: He also chipped in 14 penalty minutes to finish with 166 for the season, good for fourth-best in the NHL. Aside from the penalty minutes and hits categories, Richard Clune is largely a drain for fantasy owners everywhere else.

Preds' Clune Collects First Points Since January

News: Richard Clune notched a pair of assists in Thursday's 6-1 win over Buffalo -- his first points since Jan. 9. He also went plus-2 with two PIM.
Analysis: Between the goal he scored Jan. 9 and Thursday's game, Richard Clune went 25 games without getting on the scoresheet and went minus-4. However, he did rack up 64 PIM.

Preds' Clune Gets 17 PIM

News: Richard Clune was whistled for fighting, slashing, and misconduct in Nashville's loss to Anaheim on Saturday.
Analysis: The 17 penalty minutes carry him past the century mark for the season; his 115 PIM led all Nashville skaters. That's really his only significant fantasy value, as he has just three points all season.

Preds’ Clune Riding Pine

News: Richard Clune has served as a healthy scratch for the past five games.
Analysis: With just two points in 22 games, Richard Clune is not much of a scorer.  He makes his contribution as a fourth-line tough guy and leads the team in PIM with 74.  Clune gets called upon whenever coach Barry Trotz needs a little more muscle in the lineup, but otherwise, his fantasy value is rather limited.

Preds' Clune Nets First Two Points

News: Richard Clune scored his first goal of the season and collected his first assist as well in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Analysis: He'd been held off the scoreboard for 17 games while putting only five total shots on goal and going minus-6 this year, but Richard Clune unexpectedly contributed offense in this one instead of the penalty minutes to which his fantasy owners have become accustomed.

Clune Pads PIM Count In Nashville's Win

News: Richard Clune was whacked with 17 penalty minutes Saturday in the Predators' win over Los Angeles.
Analysis: Isn't it nice to check a box score and see a month's worth of penalty minutes in one night? But any time LA's Daniel Carcillo plays, the odds of a big-PIM night go up.

Clune Racks Up Five PIM In Return To Ice

News: Richard Clune (personal) racked up five penalty minutes in 6:36 of ice time Tuesday against the Wild.
Analysis: Richard Clune hadn't played since Oct. 10 and missed one game during that stretch due to a funeral, but it seems as though he was just a healthy scratch for the other contests since that time. He's averaging just 7:58 of ice time on the season and hasn't scored a point in the five games in which he's been active.

Preds' Clune (Personal) Out Thursday

News: Richard Clune (personal) will not be available for Thursday's game against the Kings, Joshua Cooper of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Richard Clune will be away attending to his grandfather's funeral. The 26-year-old has played a minimal role with Nashville this season, with zero points and nine penalty minutes in a little more than eight minutes of ice time per game.

Reduced Role This Season For Preds' Clune?

News: With the roster additions the Preds made during the offseason, Richard Clune could see his ice time reduced this year, reports the Tennessean.
Analysis: During the summer, the Predators signed four forwards to bolster depth — center Matt Cullen and wingers Eric Nystrom, Viktor Stalberg and Matt Hendricks. In Richard Clune's case, the Preds picked him up off waivers last season, and he became a reliable checking-line guy with four goals, five assists and 113 penalty minutes. But with Hendricks and Nystrom in the mix, Clune has likely been pushed down the depth chart somewhat. Anyone outside of ultra-deep fantasy formats can feel free to look elsewhere.

Predators Re-Sign Clune

News: Richard Clune signed a two-year deal with Nashville on Wednesday.
Analysis: The Predators are mostly paying Richard Clune for his fists, though he deserves some credit for posting a plus-3 over 47 NHL appearances last year. He will likely struggle to get on the fantasy radar beyond his penalty potential, in any case.

Preds' Clune: Facing Discipline?

News: Richard Clune may face disciplinary action after leveling Artem Anisimov of the Blue Jackets with a blindside hit in the first period of Saturday's game.
Analysis: He received a major penalty for head butting, while Brendan Shanahan could have plenty to say about the ugly incident.

Increased Responsibility For Preds' Clune

News: Richard Clune is enjoying added offensive responsibility for the Predators, reports the Tennessean. "[Clune's] play has dictated that he moves up [in the lineup]," said coach Barry Trotz. "Some guys' play dictated they move down. So Clune is taking advantage of some of the guys that maybe let their play slide...he's a pretty useful player for us right now."
Analysis: Earlier in the season, Richard Clune was typically seeing 5-7 minutes of ice time on the Preds' fourth line, but recently played a season-high 16:14 against the Red Wings, skating on the third line alongside Sergei Kostitsyn and Craig Smith. The next game, he recorded his second point of the season - assisting on Smith's first-period goal. Bottom line, the added offensive responsibility is nice to see, but Clune still really only has tangible value in ultra-deep fantasy formats.

Preds Claim Clune Off Waivers

News: Richard Clune has been claimed off waivers by the Predators, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: It's possible that Nashville will simply attempt to slip Richard Clune through waivers in a few days, but he will likely work on a depth line during any stint in the NHL this season.

Kings Agree To Contract With Clune

News: Richard Clune, who was going to be a restricted free agent this summer, has signed a two-year deal with the Kings.
Analysis: Richard Clune had six goals and nine assists in 56 games in the AHL last year. He'll get a look at a depth role for the Kings in training camp but figures to be around for organizational depth.

Clune Assigned To Kings' AHL Affiliate

News: Clune cleared waivers and has been reassigned to Manchester of the AHL.
Analysis: The feisty forward will likely be up with the Kings at some point this season but doesn't offer much apart from some PIMs.

Clune Placed on Waivers By Kings

News: Clune has been placed on waivers by the Kings.

Clune misses Kings last playoff game

News: Kings LW Richard Clune did not dress for Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Canucks after injuring his arm late in Game 5. Los Angeles was eliminated on Sunday, ending Los Angeles' and Clune's seasons.
Analysis: Clune played in only 14 games with the Kings during the regular season. He has played in four playoff games, but mostly as a checking-line presence. Clune will have little to no Fantasy value on Draft Day 2010.

Clune injured during fight

News: Canucks forward Rick Rypien and Kings forward Richard Clune squared off in a fight at the 16:22 mark of the third period during Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals. Clune appeared to injure his left arm after being taken down and went straight to the locker room. He had no points in 6:34 of ice time.
Analysis: Clune played in only 14 games with the Kings during the regular season. He has played in four playoff games, but mostly as a checking-line presence. Clune will have little to no Fantasy value on Draft Day 2010.

Clune assigned to Manchester (AHL)

News: The Kings assigned LW Richard Clune to Manchester of the AHL on Tuesday. Clune made his NHL debut on Thursday against the Oilers and had two assists in his second game against Colorado on Saturday.
Analysis: Clune is likely to be back after the Olympic break, but Fantasy owners shouldn't get overly excited. We don't expect many multi-point games from the checking-line presence. Ignore him in Fantasy.

Clune gets some NHL firsts

News: Kings winger Richard Clune, playing in his second NHL game Saturday against Colorado, recorded his first NHL point with an assist and also assisted on another goal later in the game. Clune also got his first fighting major when he was tested by Colorado enforcer Cody McLeod at 2:29 of the opening period.
Analysis: Clune was in position to make the Kings' roster coming out of training camp, but suffered a groin injury late in the preseason and had spent this entire season with Manchester of the AHL before he was assigned to Ontario. Clune is nothing more than a checking-line presence and has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Clune makes NHL debut

News: The Sports Xchange reports Kings LW Richard Clune made his NHL debut on Thursday against the Oilers. Clune, 22, was called up from Ontario of the ECHL after RW Brandon Segal was claimed off waivers by Dallas. Clune played 11:09 and recorded three hits.

Clune recalled by Kings

News: The Kings have recalled LW Richard Clune from the AHL.
Analysis: Clune rhymes with goon, and that's exactly what the 22-year-old is. He's picked up 119 PIM and 12 points in 41 AHL games this season. Continue to ignore him in all formats.

Clune officially down in AHL

News: The Kings have activated LW Richard Clune (groin) off injured reserve and assigned him to the AHL.
Analysis: Clune is an enforcer and should pretty much be ignored in Fantasy play as just organizational depth.

Clune plays rehab game in AHL

News: The Sports Xchange reports that Kings RW Rich Clune missed a fifth consecutive game Monday because of a pulled groin he suffered late in training camp. Clune played a rehabilitation game for Manchester of the American Hockey League on Saturday.
Analysis: Clune is an enforcer and should pretty much be ignored in Fantasy play until he proves to be worthy of ownership.

Clune activated from IR, sent to AHL

News: The Kings activated LW Richard Clune from injured reserve Wednesday and assigned him to Manchester (AHL).
Analysis: Clune, 21, was Dallas' third-round selection, No. 71 overall, in the 2005 draft. He split last season between the AHL Iowa Stars and the ECHL Idaho Steelheads. In 38 games with Iowa, he posted three goals and five assists and 137 penalty minutes. Clune is an enforcer and nothing more than organizational depth at this time. Ignore him in Fantasy.
