Canes Reassign Gragnani

Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani will return to the Checkers, where he is second among defensemen in scoring, after failing to record a point in his Hurricanes debut Tuesday.

Canes Recall Gragnani

News: The Hurricanes recalled Marc-Andre Gragnani from AHL Charlotte on Monday.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani will replace Michal Jordan, who was sent down to Charlotte on Monday. Gragnani has recorded 21 points in 33 games for the Checkers, but has also amassed a minus-8 rating.

Carolina Signs Gragnani

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani signed a one-year, two-way deal with Carolina on Wednesday worth $800,000, RDS.ca's Renaud P. Lavoie reports.
Analysis: With 15 points (two goals) in his last 58 NHL appearances, it seems safe to say that Marc-Andre Gragnani is unlikely to approach fantasy relevance in most league types.

Canucks Don't Extend Qualifying Offer To Gragnani

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the Canucks opted not extend him a qualifying offer prior to Monday's deadline, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani was one of the main pieces in the Cody Hodgson trade this past season, so it's a somewhat surprising that the Canucks didn't want to bring him back. The 25-year-old defenseman has totaled just 18 points in 73 career NHL games, but he should have his fair share of suitors once free agency opens.

Gragnani Nets First Goal With Canucks

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani netted his first goal as a Canuck in Saturday's win over the Flames.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani has seen his role increase over the past couple of games with Kevin Bieksa out. The 25-year-old has picked up points in back-to-back games and could see a slightly expanded role as the Canucks try to get all of their veterans ready for the playoffs.

Press Box For Canucks' Gragnani

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani is expected to be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Blue Jackets, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: He'll give way to Aaron Rome, who has been a healthy scratch the past three games. Marc-Andre Gragnani has been held pointless in his six appearances with the Canucks.

Canucks' Gragnani Held Scoreless In Canucks Debut

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani was held scoreless in his Canucks debut Thursday night, but tallied 15:38 in ice time, including 1:40 on the power play.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani isn't on the Canucks' first-team power play, but the team is deep enough that there's still a lot of value on the second-team man advantage.

Gragnani To Debut With Canucks Thursday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will make his Vancouver debut Thursday against the Blues, the Canucks' official site reports.
Analysis: Not only will Marc-Andre Gragnani see his first action with his new team, but Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said he will spend some time on the power play. Gragnani could really benefit from the upgrade in offensive talent surrounding him following the trade from Buffalo to Vancouver. He's worth a speculative grab in deeper leagues.

Gragnani Waiting On Debut With Canucks

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani didn't play in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: This was Marc-Andre Gragnani's first opportunity to make his debut with the Canucks. He was routinely a healthy scratch for the Sabres before Monday's deadline deal, but Gragnani should have an opportunity to get a look with his new squad soon.

Power-Play Duties For Canucks' Gragnani?

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani could see time on the Canucks power play, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani only had 12 points (1 G, 11 A) in 44 games with the Sabres this year, but the 23-year-old blueliner's offense is considered his strength. He fell out of favor recently in Buffalo, but Gragnani played under Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault with the Prince Edward Island Rockets of the Quebec League, so there's some familiarity on his new team. He'll have to earn his ice time with the Canucks, but if Gragnani does catch on with his new team, his role could be expansive enough to warrant attention in deeper formats.

Sabres' Gragnani Dealt To Canucks At Deadline

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani was sent along with Zack Kassian to the Canucks in exchange for Cody Hodgson and Alexander Sulzer on Monday, reports the Sabres' official Twitter feed.
Analysis: He'd been a healthy scratch for six consecutive games and was the odd man out on the Sabres' blue line. He'll be behind a stellar group in Vancouver and will likely only see power-play time if an injury strikes one of the Canucks' regulars.

Sabres' Gragnani Healthy Scratch Again

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani is once again a healthy scratch Thursday against the Flyers, according to the Sabres' official Twitter feed.
Analysis: The offensive-minded Marc-Andre Gragnani saw action Tuesday only because Christian Ehrhoff was questionable with an illness. Ehrhoff was able to muddle through it Tuesday, and is in the lineup again Thursday, so Grags is the odd man out. He did see 2:01 of power play ice Tuesday, but didn't register a point and saw only 5:12 worth of total ice time.

Sabres' Gragnani Likely To Play Tuesday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani is likely to draw in for Tuesday's matchup against the Devils, according to Jon Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: An illness to Christian Ehrhoff has opened the door for Marc-Andre Gragnani to see his first action since Jan. 24 at New Jersey. He's been a healthy scratch for six consecutive games, but may see some spot duty on the power play during Ehrhoff's absence.

Sabres' Gragnani A Healthy Scratch Saturday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will not be active for Saturday's game against the Islanders, the Sabres' Official Twitter reports.
Analysis: This will be the third game in a row where Marc-Andre Gragnani does not suit up.

Sabres' Gragnani To Sit Tuesday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will be the healthy scratch on defense for the Sabres when they take on the Canadiens on Tuesday, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: As the Sabres get healthier, the guy who doesn't have the good all-around game is going to get squeezed out of time, and even though Marc-Andre Gragnani somehow has a plus-10 rating this season (by far the best on the team), his play often leaves coach Lindy Ruff confounded. The Sabres snuck him in as a forward for a bit before the break, but Tyler Ennis is also healthy up front now, so Gragnani will watch this one from the press box.

Sabres Not Getting Much Use Out Of Gragnani

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani logged slightly more than seven minutes of ice time in Saturday's overtime loss to Winnipeg.
Analysis: Over four minutes of that time came on the power play. Two minutes of even strength ice time makes you wonder why the Sabres are even bothering keeping him active.

Sabres' Gragnani Gets Anther Chance

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani, who has been scratched for the past four games, will take the injured Andrej Sekera's spot in the lineup for Friday's visit to Washington, The Buffalo News reports. "I'm looking forward to it. It's been a little while now," Gragnani said. "I have to play harder in my zone. I started well and then I got maybe a little bit away from that. I'd like to contribute more offensively, too. I need to jump more in the play, and we'll see what I can do."
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani came into the season with tons of promise, but he's been hot and cold all season and often ends up in the press box. But the kid has offense, so in deeper leagues it's worth noting when he's out there. With Sekera expected to be out several weeks, it looks like Gragnani will have a regular spot at least until Tyler Myers returns from a broken wrist, at which point his upcoming play will probably determine his status.

Sabres' Gragnani To Sit Wednesday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will be a healthy scratch for Wednesday's game against the Devils, according to the Sabres' official Twitter feed.
Analysis: With nine points in 30 games and four power-play points on the season, Marc-Andre Gragnani can chip in on the scoring sheet, but you really have to watch for the healthy scratches. The situation won't get any better when Tyler Myers returns from a broken wrist, which is thought to be not far away.

Sabres Move Gragnani To The Wing In Practice

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani practiced as on the left wing during Wednesday's morning workout in Toronto, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani has been dreadful on defense this year for the Sabres after a too good to be true debut in last year's playoffs for Buffalo. The Sabres need to shake things up, but keeping Gragnani on the ice given how poorly he has played is a curious move.

Sabres To Scratch Gragnani

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will be a healthy scratch Tuesday against the Senators, according to The Buffalo News.
Analysis: The Sabres want to keep giving youngster Brayden McNabb some ice time, and even though Marc-Andre Gragnani is showing up on the scoresheet with nine points in 30 games, his all-around game has left much to be desired lately.

Sabres' Gragnani Takes Hit In Ice Time

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani played a season-low 9 minutes, 46 seconds in the overtime loss to the Senators on Tuesday and much of that was spent out of position at wing, The Buffalo News reports. He had played at least 18 minutes for 10 straight games.
Analysis: With Mike Weber returning from injury, the Sabres elected to keep seven defensemen in the lineup, but clearly Marc-Andre Gragnani is just seeing specialists minutes for now until he gets his all-around game in gear. His value on the power play might keep him up with the Sabres all season, but in the short term, you may not see a lot of even-strength points if you own him.

Sabres' Gragnani Healthy Scratch Again

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani will not be in the lineup Wednesday against the Devils, according to the Sabres' official Twitter feed.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani is productive from a fantasy standpoint when he plays because he gets so much power-play time, as his six points in 16 games will attest (half of those on the PP), but the problem is he doesn't have the all-around game to go with his offense yet, so the Sabres sometimes sit him down depending on the match-up or which of their other six blueliners they want to rotate into the lineup.

Sabres' Gragnani Healthy Scratched Wednesday

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani was a healthy scratch for Wednesday's loss to the Flyers, The Buffalo News reports. Mike Weber took his place on the blue line.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani hasn't scored yet even though he gets a good amount of power-play time (3:04 per game) and has generally struggled in what's supposed to be a promising year. We don't think he'll be sitting too long, but he may have to earn some of those PP minutes back when he returns.

Sabres' Gragnani Practices As Seventh Defenseman Wednesday

News: After talk of Marc-Andre Gragnani possibly heading to the healthy scratch list surfaced earlier this week, he practiced as the seventh defenseman in Wednesday's workout, according to on-air reports on WGR550 in Buffalo.
Analysis: Looks as though Marc-Andre Gragnani will be headed to watch the game in street clothes after another subpar defensive performance in Montreal. If Mike Weber plays well in place of Gragnani, he could even be seeing his way back to the AHL in a worst-case scenario.

Sabres' Gragnani Earns An Assist Tuesday Night

News: Marc-Andre Gragnani, whose spot in the lineup had been tenuous at best heading into Tuesday night, logged an assist in Buffalo's 3-1 win over Montreal.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Gragnani may have saved face a little, but, whether he remains in the top six is still to be seen. The Sabres' defense still gave up 40 shots to a Montreal team that has sputtered on offense early on this season.
