Wild's Koivu Runs Assist Streak To Three

News: Mikko Koivu contributed an assist on the Wild's lone goal in Monday's loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The 31-year-old is riding a three-game assist streak, with he and linemate Zach Parise reestablishing a rapport following the latter's recent absence due to the death of his father. Even so, a career-worst 5.4 shooting rate has still resulted in Mikko Koivu's value taking a sizable dip this season, as he's potted only six goals in 45 games. He could be in danger of surpassing double digits in the category for the first time since his rookie season of 2005-06.

Koivu Joins Wild's Offensive Party

News: Mikko Koivu picked up the primary assists on the first two goals of Thursday's 7-0 sheathing of the Sabres.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu had been struggling along with the rest of the Wild over their six-game losing streak, having gone minus-6 with two assists over that span. But like much of the rest of the team, he broke out in a big way Thursday. His fantasy owners will have to hope this is the start of him turning the page, as Koivu's barely averaging half a point per game.

Wild's Koivu Safe To Play Thursday

News: Coach Mike Yeo confirmed Mikko Koivu (undisclosed) would play Thursday against the Blackhawks, KFAN 100.3 FM reports.
Analysis: An undisclosed injury forced Mikko Koivu to depart from Wednesday's practice early, but it wasn't serious enough to knock him out of game action. He'll be back on the top line with Jason Pominville and Jason Zucker, the latter of whom replaces Zach Parise, who has left the team following the death of his father.

Wild's Koivu Suffers Minor Injury In Practice

News: Mikko Koivu left the ice during Wednesday's practice with what coach Mike Yeo described as a "minor" injury.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu appeared to be visibly frustrated as he headed for the locker room, with the possibility that he might have tweaked the lower-body injury that has been dogging him of late. It doesn't sound like the Wild believe it will keep him out of action Thursday against the Blackhawks, but his status likely won't be officially known until the team completes its gameday skate.

Two Points For Wild's Koivu In Win

News: Mikko Koivu notched a goal and assist in Friday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu's goal came on a third-period power play, giving him just his second marker with the man advantage this season. The 31-year-old's scoring totals are down this season, due in some part to a career-worst 6.2 shooting percentage. While Koivu has never been a prolific goal scorer, a probable increase in his shooting percentage along with some more proficiency on the team's 25th-ranked power-play unit should allow Koivu's scoring to pick up a bit in the second half.

Wild's Koivu Fires Off Seven Shots, Gets Assist

News: Mikko Koivu attempted seven shots and picked up an assist in Wednesday's loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The shot total was his second-highest of the season and an encouraging development for the center, who has gone nine straight games without a goal. If he can keep finding windows for shot opportunities and notice a little more puck luck, that goalless streak should come to an end quickly.

News: Mikko Koivu scored a goal, added a power-play assist and won 22 of his 30 faceoffs Tuesday against the Islanders.
Analysis: A dominant performance by Mikko Koivu, who'd missed practice Saturday with an undisclosed strain of some sort. He's now recorded points in five straight games.

Wild's Koivu Misses Practice

News: Mikko Koivu did not practice Saturday due to a minor "strain," the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Point Streak Continues For Wild's Koivu

News: Mikko Koivu notched his fourth goal of the season in Friday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu is beginning to dig himself out of his slow start to the season, as Friday's goal gives him points in four consecutive games. He also quite proficient in the faceoff circle against the Ducks, winning 20 of his 29 draws.

Wild's Koivu Dishes Two Helpers

News: Mikko Koivu recorded a pair of assists in Monday's 4-1 road win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Four of Mikko Koivu's seven points on the season have quietly come in the last four games, a span in which he's skated to a plus-three rating and taken 11 shots on goal. It's important to note that Minnesota's "No. 1" center in Mikael Granlund hasn't been much better, posting a pedestrian nine points in 20 games, so there's a lot of room for improvement for Koivu and Granlund as the second quarter of the season kicks off -- especially once Thomas Vanek starts scoring.

Wild's Koivu Plays Despite Illness

News: Mikko Koivu (illness) had just one shot on goal in 18:45 of ice time in Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu missed the third period of Thursday's game due to the illness, but looks like he's back to full speed. The bigger worry is Koivu's lackluster production as an early slump has lingered and he now has just five points in 19 games.

Wild's Koivu Likely To Play Saturday

News: Mikko Koivu (illness) participated in line rushes at morning skate and appears set to play Saturday against the Lightning, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Held out of Friday's practice with the illness, Mikko Koivu's full participation in morning skate seems to verify his presence in the lineup Saturday night. He's set to move down from his usual top-line perch to pivot the Wild's second line, where he'll be flanked by Nino Niederreiter and Justin Fontaine.

Wild's Koivu Misses Friday's Practice

News: Mikko Koivu (illness) missed Friday's practice, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu was feeling ill toward the end of Thursday's win over the Flyers, so the team is likely just giving him some rest with the hope that he'll be good to go in time for Saturday's game against the Lightning. The team should have an update on his condition following their morning skate Saturday.

Wild's Koivu Dealing With Illness

News: Mikko Koivu was dealing with an illness following Thursday's game against the Flyers, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild have a bout of mumps flying around the locker room, but that reportedly doesn't appear to be the case with Mikko Koivu. The team will likely update his status at some point before their next game Saturday against the Lightning.

News: Mikko Koivu had four shots on goal in 19:12 of ice time in Tuesday's loss to New Jersey, but did not register a point for the fourth consecutive game.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu continues to struggle as he has just two goals and one assist in 14 games. The Wild have had him change lines, but it hasn't resulted in improved production.

Wild's Koivu Doesn't End Slump With New Line

News: Mikko Koivu didn't have a shot on goal or assist, but had one blocked shot in Tuesday's win over Boston. He skated on a new line with Jason Zucker and Charlie Coyle, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Wild broke up the line that featured Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek with both players off to a slow start. It didn't end Koivu's slow start (he has just one point in eight games), but perhaps he'll find better chemistry with his new line.

News: Mikko Koivu scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's win over Tampa Bay.

News: Mikko Koivu assisted on two goals in Monday's Game 6 win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Mikko Koivu provided a total of three helpers in the first two games of the series, but his offense had gone AWOL in the proceeding three games before the dry spell ended in Game 6. The Wild will need Koivu to maintain his facilitating ways if they hope to upset the Avalanche in Wednesday's Game 7.

Koivu Stays Hot, Leads Wild To Win

News: Mikko Koivu registered a pair of assists in Tuesday's win over the Bruins, and scored the winner in the shootout to boot.

Wild's Koivu Snaps Scoring Drought Saturday

News: Mikko Koivu scored for the first time in nearly three months Saturday, recording his ninth of the season in a 3-2 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Although he's more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, Minnesota's captain hadn't tickled the twince since December 27, so it was nice to see him pot his ninth of the season. Despite missing 17 contests with an ankle injury, the Finnish veteran is up to 41 points in 54 games - a pace that would make him a 62-point player in a full 82-game season. A word of caution, though: he has been supplanted as the team's top center by fellow-Finn Mikael Granlund, and his current linemates Matt Moulson and Justin Fontaine, while decent, just don't pack the same punch as Zach Parise and Jason Pominville. The Wild will need Mikko Koivu to keep producing -- regardless of who he lines up with -- as they cling to one of two Western Conference wild card spots with 11 games left.
