Stoner's Goal Not Enough In Ducks' Game 6 Loss

News: Clayton Stoner registered a third-period goal in Wednesday's Game 6 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner's first goal of the postseason didn't come without controversy. Teammate Jakob Silfverberg appeared to run into goalie Corey Crawford's glove as Stoner was about to fire off a slap shot, but officials didn't call interference on the play. Nonetheless, the goal didn't affect the final outcome in what was a well-deserved Chicago victory. The series heads back to Anaheim on Saturday for Game 7.

Ducks' Stoner Could Play Wednesday

News: Clayton Stoner (lower body) could return to the lineup Wednesday against the Avalanche, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner was a participant during Wednesday's morning skate as a member of the third defensive pairing, suggesting he's in line to return after a three-game absence. While Stoner's availability likely won't officially be known until the Ducks conduct pregame warmups, it appears he'll displace James Wisniewski from the lineup.

Ducks' Stoner To Miss Third Straight

News: Clayton Stoner (lower body) will not play Friday against the Avalanche, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner's condition seems to be improving, but coach Bruce Boudreau indicated he wanted to take advantage of the Ducks' upcoming four-game break in the schedule to afford the defenseman some further recovery. He'll miss his third straight game with the injury.

Ducks' Stoner Likely To Sit Out Another

News: Clayton Stoner (lower body) isn't expected to play Wednesday against the Oilers, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner resumed skating with the Ducks on Wednesday, but his absence from a regular defensive pairing suggests he'll sit out a second straight game. With only eight points in 67 games this season, Stoner will struggle to provide fantasy players with value once he does return to the lineup.

Ducks' Stoner Still Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: Clayton Stoner continues to deal with a lower-body injury, Elliott Teaford of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner -- who has recorded eight points and 66 PIM in 67 games to date -- thus remains in the day-to-day category as Wednesday's game against the Oilers approaches.

Ducks' Stoner Scores Game Winner Sunday

News: Clayton Stoner scored the game winner in the third period of Sunday night's clash in Dallas.
Analysis: Not normally known for his scoring prowess, the defenseman was able to score his first goal in nearly a full calendar year. Seeing as how his career total is now at five goals and 33 assists, don't expect the 30-year old to suddenly become fantasy viable.

Analysis: Clayton Stoner played more than 20 minutes in Friday's win over Calgary, recording a plus-1 rating with four penalty minutes. Ducks' Stoner To Play Thursday

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) will be back in the lineup Thursday against the Predators, NHL.com's Robby Stanley reports.
Analysis: He'll rejoin Sami Vatanen on the Ducks' third pairing while Ben Lovejoy heads to the press box. Clayton Stoner has compiled no goals and three assists over 43 games this season, which makes his fantasy appeal rather minimal.

Ducks' Stoner Out With Illness Tuesday

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Elliott Teaford of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: He'll be replaced in the lineup by Eric Brewer, who returns from a fractured foot to play his first game since Dec. 2. It's conceivable that Brewer would could assume the third-pairing spot next to Sami Vatanen for the foreseeable future, which could turn Clayton Stoner into a regular healthy scratch once he's over the illness.

Ducks' Stoner Dealing With Illness

News: Clayton Stoner missed Monday's practice with an illness, but he may be available for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner's illness is described as "cold-like symptoms", indicating that the issue isn't overly serious. However, the Ducks have a decision to make, with Eric Brewer (foot) set to play for the first time since Dec. 1. If Stoner's still feeling even a little bit under the weather, it could make the decision easier for coach Bruce Boudreau.

Ducks' Stoner Returns To Lineup

News: Clayton Stoner (lower body) will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Canucks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner sat out the Ducks' final game before the All-Star break in an attempt to recover from the minor injury. After returning to practice Monday, he'll be cleared to reclaim a spot on the Ducks' third pairing, replacing Colby Robak in the lineup. Stoner has just two points in 40 games this season, and doesn't provide enough in specialty categories to make him worthy of a roster spot outside of the deepest of leagues.

Ducks' Stoner Practices Monday

News: Clayton Stoner (lower body) was on the ice for practice Monday and is on track to play Tuesday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner was dealing with a minor lower-body ailment, which kept him out of last Tuesday's win over Calgary, but after resting up over the All-Star break, all signs point to him returning to game action Tuesday.

Ducks' Stoner Expected To Play Next Week

News: Coach Bruce Boudreau said that he expects Clayton Stoner (lower body) to be available when the Ducks resume play the Canucks on Tuesday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner was a late scratch for the Ducks' final game before the All-Star break this past Wednesday due to the lower-body ailment, which he sustained the previous weekend against the Kings. It appears to be just a minor concern for Stoner, whose availability for the game against the Canucks should be confirmed when he returns to practice Monday.

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) will be activated from IR to play Wednesday against the Flyers, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner will replace the newly-acquired Eric Brewer, who suffered a broken foot bone Monday night. The blueliner has been skating the last few days and has seemed to put his episode with the mumps behind him.

Ducks' Stoner Practices Tuesday

News: Clayton Stoner (mumps) was on the ice for Tuesday's optional practice.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner's case of the mumps seems to be close to running its course, as the Ducks likely wouldn't have him practice with the team if he was still afflicted by the virus. He could be a lineup option for the team Wednesday against the Flyers if the Ducks were satisfied with how he practiced.

Ducks' Stoner Eyeing Return Wednesday

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) hopes to return for Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks, Curtis Zupke of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner has been battling the mumps recently, and hasn't been in the lineup since Nov. 20. Even when he returns, with no points in 20 games, Stoner should only be a fantasy option in the deepest of fantasy leagues.

Ducks' Stoner Has Mumps, Out Saturday

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) has been officially diagnosed with the mumps virus and will not play Friday against the Blackhawks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Clayton Stoner practiced Thursday and seemed well on his way to returning to action, but apparently some late-emerging symptoms of the mumps will knock him out of action. The setback has to be concerning for the Ducks, who now might have to worry about further players potentially being infected by Stoner. Corey Perry and Francois Beauchemin previously missed multiple games with the illness.

Ducks' Stoner Placed On IR

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: As recently as Thursday, Clayton Stoner seemed to be on track to play Friday versus the Blackhawks, but the Ducks announced prior to the game that he became the third player on the team to fall victim to the mumps virus. He'll likely be forced out of the next several games until his symptoms dissipate. Jesse Blacker was recalled from AHL Norfolk on Friday to take over his roster spot.

Ducks' Stoner To Return Friday

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) is expected to play Friday against the Blackhawks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: When Clayton Stoner fell ill over the past weekend, the Ducks feared that he was the latest victim of the mumps virus that has wreaked havoc in the locker room all season. Instead, it seems like his illness was something less severe, as he practiced Thursday with seemingly no restrictions. He'll slot back in for Francois Beauchemin, who will miss Friday's game with a suspected hand injury.

Ducks' Stoner Skates Tuesday Morning

News: Clayton Stoner (illness) took part in Tuesday's morning skate but doesn't think he'll be cleared to return until the weekend, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Merely being on the ice amounts to a good sign for Clayton Stoner, as it was feared that he had been the latest Ducks player to succumb to the debilitating mumps virus. Stoner's symptoms were believed to be similar to the virus, but team doctors determined his particular illness wasn't contagious after he never experienced a fever. He's still need to skate for a few days to get his conditioning back up to par before coach Bruce Boudreau decides whether or not to use him Friday versus the Blackhawks.

Analysis: Clayton Stoner is not confirmed to have the mumps, but he's exhibiting symptoms and will be held out as a precaution. The defenseman registered a plus-2 rating against the Canucks on Thursday but remains in the negative overall this season (minus-4).
