Bolts' Filppula: Healthy Going Into Camp

News: Valtteri Filppula (lower body) skated Thursday during the team's informal workouts and said the ailment he played through during the postseason last year did not affect his summer training, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: This is great news for the Bolts as they fully anticipate that Valtteri Filppula will deliver strong, secondary offense as the team's second-line pivot.

News: Valtteri Filppula (lower body) is expected to play Wednesday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Valtteri Filppula rejoined the Lightning for Tuesday's practice and felt no ill effects while participating. He's expected to center the second line, flanked by Alex Killorn and Ryan Callahan.

Filppula Back At Bolts' Practice

News: Valtteri Filppula (lower body) returned to practice Tuesday after missing two games, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis: He's tied with Steven Stamkos for the team lead in goals (25) and will play an important two-way role for the Bolts against the Habs in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Filp's availability for Game 1 on Wednesday isn't guaranteed, but this is definitely a great sign.

Bolts' Filppula Out With Lower-Body Injury

News: Valtteri Filppula is out with a lower-body injury Friday against the Blue Jackets, Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: The injury was previously undisclosed by the team, and comes as inconvenient timing for those planning to use Valtteri Filppula in daily formats. Cedric Paquette will join the lineup in place of Filppula, who after a 16-point March, had just one point in five April contests.

Bolts' Filppula: 10-Game, 14-Point Streak

News: Valtteri Filppula's point streak now stands at 10 games and 14 points, including four goals, after he picked up an assist in Thursday's shootout win over the Islanders.
Analysis: This is exactly what general manager Steve Yzerman envisioned when he signed the talented center. He won't equal his career mark of 66 points, but this will be his next-best season -- and his best-ever when it comes to power-play production. Use him well and file his name away for next season -- he could see a jump in production with Steven Stamkos back to take off some pressure.

Bolts' Filppula Extends Point Streak To Eight

News: Valtteri Filppula fired home his 24th goal of the season - extending his point streak to eight games - in Saturday's matinee OT loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Both the 24 goals and eight-game point streak are career highs for the first-year Bolt, who clearly has found his niche in Tampa after spending eight seasons with Detroit. Valtteri Filppula has racked up 12 points (four goals, eight assists) during his streak and looks great centering Tampa's line between Ryan Callahan and rookie Ondrej Palat.

Tampa's Filppula: Four-Game, Seven-Point Streak

News: Valtteri Filppula picked up two more assists in Tampa's win over the Devils on Saturday. The points extend his current streak to four games and seven points, including six assists.
Analysis: We suppose his new nickname -- Filthy Hands -- which was coined by Steven Stamkos really does fit. He now has 49 points in 62 games and is starting to pick up some of the offensive slack left with the departure of Martin St. Louis. Use him well.

Bolts' Filppula: Five Points In Three Games

News: Valtteri Filppula had a three-assist night in a 5-4 win over Florida on Thursday. His point streak now stands at three games and five points.
Analysis: Flip has 46 points, including 25 assists, in 61 games this season. Take advantage of this current streak -- he's being counted on to help carry the Bolts now that Marty St. Louis is on Broadway.

News: Valtteri Filppula (ankle) says his ankle feels "close to being good enough," but also at times feels weak when he skates, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: "That's the worry," he said. "I feel it needs to feel like I can take full turns and full strides before coming back." He hopes to play Tuesday.

Lightning's Filppula Will Not Play Sunday

News: Valtteri Filppula (ankle) will not play Sunday against the Avalanche, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The expectation was that Valtteri Filppula would be ready coming out of the break, but he evidently hit a setback in his recovery and is now set to miss a third straight game. Filppula suffered a non-displaced ankle fracture less than three weeks ago, and it's uncertain whether he'll be activated prior to Tuesday's game.

Bolts' Filppula Won't Come Off IR Thursday

News: Updating an earlier report, Valtteri Filppula (ankle) will not return from injured reserve for Thursday's game against the Predators, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Although indications earlier this week suggested Valtteri Filppula was on his way to returning to the lineup for the team's first game out of the break, he was seen wearing a red no-contact jersey at morning skate. Coach Jon Cooper said that Filppula is now being considered day-to-day, and his progress will be monitored over the next couple of days. He could still be an option for Saturday's game against the Stars.

Bolts' Filppula Will Return Thursday

News: Valtteri Filppula (ankle) will play Thursday, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis: Make sure you have him active. Steven Stamkos needs another week to recover, so Valtteri Filppula will be relied upon for extra offense in the short term.

Bolts' Filppula Back At Practice Monday

News: As expected, Valtteri Filppula (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: After taking last week to rest up and recover from the broken ankle, Valtteri Filppula will attempt to test things out over the next few days. If he encounters no setbacks along the way, Filppula is expected to be activated from injured reserve in advance of Thursday's contest against the Predators.

Bolts' Filppula Likely To Skate Monday

News: Valtteri Filppula (ankle) isn't expected to resume skating with the team until Monday, Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, coach Jon Cooper just wants Valtteri Filppula to get some further rest before returning to the ice at the beginning of next week. If he checks out fine during those sessions, Filppula should be available for the Bolts during their Feb. 27 tilt with the Predators.

Bolts' Filppula Expected Back For First Game

News: Valtteri Filppula (ankle) is expected to be available for the team's first game back after the Olympic break, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Valtteri Filppula may not be ready for the first couple practices after the break, but the team is hopeful he'll be available for their Feb. 27 date with the Predators. The center is on pace for one of the best seasons of his career so far, with 20 goals and 21 assists in 56 games to date.

Lightning's Filppula Diagnosed With Broken Ankle

News: Valtteri Filppula has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in his right ankle and will be sidelined for three weeks, Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: The injury will prevent Valtteri Filppula from playing for Team Finland in the Olympics, but given his return timetable and the upcoming Olympic break, it appears unlikely that he will miss much, if any action, when play resumes at the end of February. He will at least miss Saturday's game against the Red Wings, however.

News: Valtteri Filppula (lower body) scored Tampa's only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Minnesota.

Bolts' Filppula (Lower Body) Probable For Tuesday

News: Valtteri Filppula (lower body) is considered probable for Tuesday's game at Minnesota, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Analysis: He's on pace to set a new career mark for goals (he has 19; his best is 23). It's nice to see him resurrect his game after such an awful 2012-13. Activate him.
