Former Leaf Farmhand Lashoff Signs In Swiss League
News:Matt Lashoff (knee) has signed a contract with the Zurich Lions of the Swiss National League, reports the London Free Press.
Analysis: The defender, who has struggled through injury of late, spent three weeks on a tryout with the Lions and they saw something they liked. He is just 25 so there is still plenty of opportunity for him to return to North America.
News:Matt Lashoff is out for the season with a significant knee injury, according to a report in the Times Union.
Analysis: He injured his knee on what the Toronto Marlies' coach Dallas Eakins called a "questionable hit" and is now out for as long as six months. The 25-year-old would have been first in line for a call-up to the Leafs this season. Tough break.
News:Matt Lashoff was sent to the AHL on Monday, James Mirtle of the Globe & Mail reports.
Analysis: Rookie Jake Gardiner appears to have won the final blue-line spot, so Matt Lashoff will work with the Marlies to open the season provided that he clears waivers.
News:Matt Lashoff, who remains in camp, looks like he will be the odd man out when it comes to roster cut-downs before the season begins.
Analysis: The Leafs have Dion Phaneuf, John-Michael Liles, Luke Schenn, Mike Komisarek and Cody Franson as their top five blueliners. Keith Aulie, Carl Gunnarsson and rookie Jake Gardiner are battling for the last spot.
News: Lashoff has inked a one-year deal with the Leafs, reports TSN.ca.
Analysis: He's a former first-round pick (22nd in 2005) who has shown flashes of occasional offense, mostly in the AHL. The addition of Cody Franson all but assures Lashoff that he'll spend time next season in the AHL. And with Jake Gardiner pushing from below, Lashoff needs to grow his game in a big hurry or he won't see another contract with the Leafs.
News: Lashoff cleared re-entry waivers Tuesday and has joined the Maple Leafs, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: Lashoff has spent the entire year with AHL Toronto, recording seven goals, 21 assists and 137 PIMs in 69 games. He'll likely take Brett Lebda's spot in the rotation.
News: Lashoff is headed to the AHL Marlies, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: His shoulder injury earlier in camp all but sealed his fate but it would have been very hard for him to crack camp with the big squad given the depth on D. He has fantasy upside but shouldn't be owned until he has earned a top-four role.
News: Lashoff (shoulder) will be out 10-14 days, reports Toronto's AM640.
Analysis: He was struggling to gain traction on a job in the final D pairing and this injury all but seals his start with the AHL Marlies.
News: Lashoff left Thursday's game with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: He was later seen with his arm in a sling. There's no word yet on the diagnosis but we could be looking at a separation. So much for any chance of earning a major-league job.
News: The Maple Leafs have acquired Lashoff from the Lightning in exchange for Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Lashoff spent most of last season with AHL Norfolk, where he recorded eight goals and 16 assists in 68 games. He does have some offensive upside, but we'll have to see where he slots in at training camp before declaring the move to Toronto a boost to his fantasy value.
News: The Lightning have recalled D Matt Lashoff from the AHL.
Analysis: Lashoff is at best a low-end long-term Fantasy keeper. Continue to ignore him in seasonal leagues.
News: The Lightning have sent RW Mark Parrish, C Paul Szczechura, D Matt Lashoff and D Vladmir Mihalik back to the AHL.
Analysis: None of these guys have any seasonal Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Lightning assigned defenseman Matt Lashoff to Norfolk of the AHL after he cleared waivers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 22-year-old has appeared in 58 career NHL games with the Lightning and Bruins. He played in 12 games with Tampa Bay last season, finishing with no goals and seven assists. Lashoff, a 2005 first-round pick, definitely flashed some of his potential last season and Tampa Bay made it a priority to re-sign him this offseason. Unfortunately, he couldn't make the roster because of a numbers crunch and we are very surprised he cleared waivers. Lashoff might be back this season, but he is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.
News: The Lightning have placed D Mike Lundin and D Matt Lashoff on waivers.
Analysis: Lashoff is more of a Fantasy-viable player than Lundin, and the 22-year-old, a 2005 first-round pick, flashed some of his potential last season. He remains a Fantasy sleeper for deeper formats, but obviously won't start the season in Tampa. Lundin can continue to be ignored in all formats.
News: The Tampa Bay Lightning say they have re-signed defenseman Matt Lashoff to a two-year contract. General manager Brian Lawton made the announcement Friday. Lashoff was acquired in a trade that sent Mark Recchi to Boston last season.
Lashoff should get a shot to open the season on the Lightning's blue line, but he is merely a Fantasy sleeper for deeper formats.
News: Lightning D Matt Lashoff was able to return to the Lightning lineup on Saturday against the Thrashers after missing Wednesday's game with a lower body injury. He failed to record a stat in the season finale, taking two shots on goal.
Analysis: Lashoff came over in the deal that sent Mark Recchi to the Bruins and the team loves his potential. He may be able to make the Lightning roster out of training camp next season and can be considered a sleeper option on Draft Day 2009.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Lightning D Matt Lashoff missed Thursday's game against Washington with a lower-body injury. Since joining the Lightning at the trade deadline from Boston, Lashoff has seven assists in 11 games while averaging nearly 24 minutes a game.
Analysis: Lashoff came to Tampa Bay in the deadline deal that sent Mark Recchi to the Bruins. The 2005 first-round pick never really got a fair chance with the Bruins, but Tampa Bay loves his potential. Lashoff could get a shot to make the Lightning's roster in training camp next season and could have sleeper potential in 2009-10.
News:The Sports Xchange reports D Matt Lashoff has picked up points in three of the four games since joining the Lightning, all in the last three since being called up from AHL Norfolk. He has four assists in that span.
Analysis: Lashoff came to Tampa Bay in the deadline deal that sent Mark Recchi to the Bruins. The 2005 first-round pick never really got a fair chance with the Bruins, but Tampa Bay loves his potential. He still remains more of a low-end Fantasy defenseman and long-term keeper.
News: TSN reports that the Lightning have sent RW Mark Recchi and a 2010 second-round pick to the Bruins for D Matt Lashoff and RW Martins Karsums.
Analysis: Recchi, who is set to become a free agent in the offseason, has one goal and seven assists during a current four-game point streak. He has quietly posted 32 assists and 45 points in 2008-09. Recchi used to be a 100-point threat early in his career, but he is at the point in his career where if he makes it to 50 points it's a bonus. This trade certainly helps Recchi's Fantasy value, as the Bruins are a lot better team than Tampa Bay. He remains a low-end option for now, but maybe one worth adding in deeper leagues if you have a spare bench spot, simply because of his potential to be a contributor down the stretch. Lashoff is a nice prospect and could get more of a shot with the Lightning than he was with the Bruins. He remains a keeper option worth considering. Karsums, a second-round pick in 2004, has 41 points in 43 AHL games this season, but has only managed one assist in six NHL games. He is not worth worrying about right now.
News: The Bruins have sent C Vladimir Sobotka, C Martin St. Pierre and D Matt Lashoff down to Providence of the AHL.
Analysis: Lashoff is the biggest prospect in this group and should be back up after the break. He remains a low-end keeper option, while Sobotka and St. Pierre have no Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Bruins have recalled D Matt Lashoff from the AHL.
Analysis: Lashoff is one of the Bruins' top defensive prospects, but he isn't worth owning in Fantasy play just yet.
News: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli announced Monday that defenseman Matt Lashoff and goaltender Kevin Regan were assigned to the Providence Bruins of the AHL. They also recalled goaltender Tuukka Rask and forward Martin St. Pierre from the Providence on an emergency basis.
Analysis: Lashoff is one of the Bruins' top defensive prospect, but he is just organizational depth at this time. Rask is also a top prospect, but is up because Manny Fernandez is battling an undisclosed ailment. He will be back in the minors shortly. Those two primarily have Fantasy value in long-term keeper leagues, while St. Pierre and Regan has little to no value.
News: D Matt Lashoff picked up an assist Saturday against the Hurricanes, his first point in 13 games with the Bruins this season.
Analysis: Lashoff is considered one of the Bruins' top prospects, but the 2005 first-round pick could be back in the minors as soon as Andrew Ference is ready to return from a broken leg. Consider Lashoff more of a long-term Fantasy keeper more than anything right now.
News: The Boston Globe reports that Bruins D Johnny Boychuk and D Matt Lashoff are up with the NHL team for their two-game Florida swing that begins Thursday.
Analysis: Lashoff is more of a prospect than Boychuk, but both have some value in deeper keeper leagues. Ignore them in seasonal formats.
News: The Bruins reassigned D Matt Lashoff to the team's AHL affiliate in Providence on Thursday.
Analysis: Lashoff is a 22-year-old who has 13 points in 15 AHL games this season. He's not worth picking up just yet in seasonal leagues, but has some keeper value.
News: The Bruins officially placed D Andrew Ference (broken leg) on injured reserve Wednesday and recalled D Matt Lashoff from the AHL.
Analysis: Ference is out 6-9 weeks and is only a low-end Fantasy defenseman when healthy. Lashoff, meanwhile, is a 22-year-old who has 13 points in 15 AHL games this season and has 30 NHL games under his belt. He's not worth picking up just yet, but keep an eye on what he does with this opportunity.
News: The Bruins cut G Tuukka Rask, D Jeff Penner, C Martin St. Pierre, and D Matt Lashoff from camp on Thursday.
Analysis: Rask is the third-string goalie in Boston, but should see time in 2008-09, although it might not be much unless a trade or injury occurs. He is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.
News: Boston Bruins forward Jeff Hoggan and defenseman Matt Lashoff were reassigned to the team's AHL affiliate in Providence on Tuesday.
Analysis: Lashoff was called up March 20 and had two assists in four games. He has a goal and four assists in 18 games for Boston this season, as well as eight goals and 27 assists in 55 games with Providence. He is more organizational depth at this juncture and can be left off Fantasy rosters.
News: We're not sure how far Bruins D Matt Lashoff got towards Providence this morning when he was reassigned, but we hope it wasn't far as he was called right back to Boston when Bobby Allen's back gave him trouble during practice, according to the Boston Globe.
Analysis: Lashoff was initially filling in for Zdeno Chara, but now it looks like he will be doing the same for Allen. He has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: The Boston Bruins sent D Matt Lashoff to the AHL affiliate in Providence. Lashoff, the team's first selection in the 2005 Draft, has one goal and one assist in nine games with the Bruins. He has four goals and 16 assists in 28 games with Providence. The Bruins, who have scored two goals in their last two games, both losses, visit Philadelphia on Saturday.
Analysis: Lashoff has four goals and 16 assists in 28 games with Providence. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News:Phil Kessel and Matt Lashoff added insurance goals in the third period for Boston during a 5-2 win Monday against the Thrashers. Kessel and Lashoff's goals both came on power plays in the opening 6:37 of the third. Kessel scored off the rebound of Andrew Ference's shot from the point 2:05 into the final period. Lashoff's slap shot from the left point beat Kari Lehtonen inside the far post.
Analysis: Lashoff's score was the first of his career and it came five games after his recall from Providence (AHL). Lashoff might be on the shuttle back and forth from Rhode Island to Massachusetts all season. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News: Boston recalled defenseman Matt Lashoff from Providence of the AHL on Friday. He was able to play Saturday against the Blues, but failed to record a point in 5:40 of ice time and finished at even.
Analysis: Lashoff might be on the shuttle back and forth from Rhode Island to Massachusetts all season. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News: D Matt Hunwick and D Matt Lashoff were returned to Providence of the AHL Thursday.
Analysis: Lashoff might be on the shuttle back and forth from Rhode Island to Massachusetts all season. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News: The Bruins recalled defensemen Matt Lashoff and Matt Hunwick from their AHL affiliate in Providence on Friday.
Analysis: Lashoff might be on the shuttle back and forth from Rhode Island to Massachusetts all season. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News: Matt Lashoff, who had been battling a neck injury, will have to recover with Providence of the AHL after being assigned there on Thursday.
Analysis: Lashoff might be on the shuttle back and forth from Rhode Island to Massachusetts all season. He is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues when up with the big club.
News: The Boston Globe reports Matt Lashoff has been dealing with whiplash-like symptoms after a neck strain suffered in a preseason game against the Maple Leafs on Sept. 22.
Analysis: Lashoff is considered day to day for now. If you plan to use him in deeper leagues, reserve him for Fantasy Week 1 (Sept. 29-Oct. 7) until he can officially return and prove his health.
News: D Bobby Allen has been recalled from Providence of the AHL on Wednesday and Matt Lashoff was returned to the Baby B's.
Analysis: Each player's Fantasy value is negligible at this time.
News: RW Shean Donovan, D Milan Jurcina, D Matt Lashoff, RW Mark Mowers and RW Petr Tenkrat were all scoreless in Monday's game against the Sabres.
Analysis: With the exception of Donovan and Jurcina, who are only worth a look in larger Fantasy formats, none of these players are worth using in most leagues.
News: Boston recalled D Matt Lashoff and G Hannu Toivonen before Saturday's game, and assigned G Philippe Sauve to Providence of the AHL.
Analysis: Toivonen is the only player worth owning in Fantasy leagues at this time. He will likely get a few starts here and there, and could be used as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie. Ignore Lashoff and Sauve for now.
News: The Bruins recalled goaltender Brian Finley and assigned defenseman Matt Lashoff and center Yan Stasny to Providence of the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: Lashoff and Stasny can be dropped in Fantasy play now.
News: Matt Lashoff, skating as part of the team's top defensive pairing with Zdeno Chara, picked up his first NHL point on an assist in Thursday's game against the Sabres.
Analysis: Lashoff might stick around with the Bruins even when they get totally healthy, as he has held his own so far with the big club. He might be worth a look in larger Fantasy leagues if he can continue to get regular ice time.
News: D Matt Lashoff, the Bruins' first overall pick in the 2005 Draft, made his NHL debut on Thursday against the Canadiens logging 16:51 of ice time, taking one shot and finishing with a plus-1 rating.
Analysis: Keep an eye on Lashoff's progress before adding him to your active Fantasy roster. The Bruins believe he will be able to make a difference, but we will have to wait and see if that can translate well for Fantasy purposes.
News: The Boston Bruins assigned D Bobby Allen, G Brian Finley, F Martins Karsums, F David Krejci, D Matt Lashoff, D Jay Leach, F Pascal Pelletier, F Tyler Redenbach, D Jonathan Sigalet, F Nate Thompson, F Kris Versteeg and F Ben Walter to Providence of the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: Neither of the players mentioned have any value in Fantasy Hockey.
