Tarnasky Signs With Rangers

News: The Rangers signed Nick Tarnasky on Thursday.
Analysis: Nick Tarnasky gives the Rangers a rugged organizational depth forward, but the 29-year-old last saw NHL action in 2009-10, so he's likely to spend most of the coming season at the AHL level.

Buffalo Signs Tarnasky

News: Buffalo signed Nick Tarnasky to a one-year deal on Tuesday, Sabres.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Nick Tarnasky has the potential to post a good number of PIMs if he earns a regular role, but he might struggle to play regularly after totaling just three points in 31 games in his last NHL appearance way back in 2009.

Tarnasky scores first goal of season

News: Panthers LW Nick Tarnasky scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's shootout loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Tarnasky is known more for his physical play than his goal-scoring ability. He continues to have Fantasy value in only the deepest of leagues that reward bad behavior.

Tarnasky returns to action Saturday

News: Panthers LW Nick Tarnasky returned to action Saturday after missing almost a week with a knee injury. He played just 6:27 in a 2-0 win over Toronto.
Analysis: Tarnasky brings some muscle to the Panthers lineup, but doesn't provide much offense. Continue to ignore him in the majority of Fantasy leagues.

Tarnasky's return date unknown

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers RW Nick Tarnasky has been out with a knee injury but is on Florida's short New York trip and participated in Wednesday's morning skate. His return date is not known.
Analysis: For a tough guy, Tarnasky is turning into a fragile player. He missed the first few months of the season while recovering from a broken orbital bone. He is now back on the shelf with the knee injury. In the six games Tarnasky has been healthy, he hasn't even gotten into a fight. Leave him alone in Fantasy until further notice.

Tarnasky finally makes season debut

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers RW Nick Tarnasky made his season debut on Sunday after being out since breaking an orbital bone in a preseason fight with Ottawa's Chris Neil on Sept. 15. He had no points in 5:22 of ice time and no penalties.
Analysis: Florida has been looking for some toughness on their lower lines since Tarnasky has been out all season and just haven't gotten it. Now that Tarnasky is healthy, he should return to being Florida's top enforcer. He is only a Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Tarnasky to AHL for conditioning

News: The Panthers have removed LW Nick Tarnasky from IR and sent him to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.
Analysis: Tarnasky has pretty much been a checking-line forward in his NHL career and is only a Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

News: The Miami Herald reports that Panthers LW Nick Tarnasky (face) is getting closer to a return. "He's getting closer. He's obviously been out for a long time," coach Peter DeBoer said. "We have to look at the options in the coming weeks."
Analysis: Tarnasky has pretty much been a checking-line forward in his NHL career and is only a Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Tarnasky still coming along slowly

News: The Sun Sentinel reports that Panthers LW Nick Tarnasky (orbital bone) started skating alone last week, but the injury still is bothering him. “His recovery has been slower than we anticipated. He’s still having some issues with it," coach Peter DeBoer said. "He’s skating, but I don’t have a timeline for when he’ll be back. It’s complications due to the injury. I don’t know exactly what the problem is, but it’s not where anyone thought it would be right now.”
Analysis: Tarnasky has pretty much been a checking-line forward in his NHL career and his role isn't expected to change any time soon. He is merely a Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Panthers reward Tarnasky with PT

News: The Sports Xchange reports Panthers coach Pete DeBoer kept RW Nick Tarnasky in the lineup for a second consecutive night Saturday against the Lightning after he got into two fights with Evgeny Artyukhin the night before. "I thought he played well, got in a scrap and gave us good energy," DeBoer said. "Artyukhin ran (Michael) Frolik and (Tarnasky) answered the bell for us. You have to reward that kind of play."
Analysis: Tarnasky has been traded a few times this season, but it appears as though he has found a home with the Panthers. He is primarily on the ice to act as a checking-line forward, so continue to treat Tarnasky as a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Panthers acquire Tarnasky for Belak

News: The Florida Panthers have acquired LW Nick Tarnasky from the Predators for RW Wade Belak.
Analysis: Tarnasky has no goals and one assist in 11 games this season, and has only 21 points in 180 NHL games. Belak is more of an enforcer. Neither of these guys has any Fantasy value and you should continue to ignore them both in all formats.

Tarnasky comes off injured reserve

News: The Predators took LW Nick Tarnasky off injured reserve Thursday after missing the first six games of the season with a thumb injury.
Analysis: Tarnasky was injured when he came over in a trade from Tampa Bay at the beginning of the season, but it appears he is finally ready for action. He is mostly a checking line forward and has little to no Fantasy value when healthy.

Tarnasky traded to Nashville

News: LW Nick Tarnasky was traded from Tampa Bay to Nashville on Monday. The Lightning will receive a conditional selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The pick sent to the Lightning is Nashville's sixth-round choice, unless Tarnasky plays more than 55 NHL games in 2008-09, in which case it turns into a fifth-round selection.
Analysis: Tarnasky is dealt to Nashville while dealing with a fractured thumb. The Lightning had an overabundance of forwards, so a deal appeared imminent. Tarnasky is entering his third full NHL season, but his status for the start of the season is in question. He had 10 points, a minus-15 rating and 78 penalty minutes last season. He is mostly a checking line forward and has little to no Fantasy value when healthy, so continue to leave him undrafted.
