Jets' Stuart Records Assist In Loss

News: Mark Stuart registered an assist, eight hits, and three blocked shots in Thursday's Game 1 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Mark Stuart typically shines in the defensive categories, but the assist is a relative rarity. He finished the regular season with just 14 points in 70 games.

Jets' Stuart Appears In Line To Play Saturday

News: Mark Stuart (face) appears to be on track to play Saturday against the Predators, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Jets evaluated Mark Stuart after he took a puck to the face during Friday's practice, but his presence on the ice during Saturday's morning skate suggests that he was able to avoid a concussion. He skated as part of a defensive pairing with Jacob Trouba during Saturday's session, an indicator that the Jets expect to have him available for the game later in the evening.

Jets' Stuart Takes Puck To Face In Practice

News: Mark Stuart left Friday's practice after taking a puck to the face, CBC's Jeff Hamilton reports.
Analysis: The extent of the injury is thus far unclear, and the Jets won't play until Saturday in Nashville. Expect the team to make a ruling on his status for the game following Saturday's morning skate. Mark Stuart has not registered a point since January.

Jets' Stuart Close To 100 Percent Healthy

News: Mark Stuart is close to 100 percent healthy and is "ready to roll", Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart returned to action for six games prior to the NHL's All-Star break, but missed the team's last two contests in order to "get back to full health." After battling injuries at defense all season, the Jets now have nine healthy defenseman on the active roster. Stuart will return to action Thursday against the Flyers, replacing Jay Harrison and playing opposite Jacob Trouba on Winnipeg's third defensive pair. Stuart has 11 points and 41 PIM through 38 games this year, and will look to post a strong and healthy second half of the season.

Jets Activate Stuart (Lower Body) From IR

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart missed only two games due to the lower-body ailment. Now that the minor injury is behind him, Stuart is expected to join Jacob Trouba on the Jets' third pairing, giving the team its optimal arrangement on the blue line. Trouba will assume more of a puck-moving role of the two players, while Stuart figures to bring superior hit and block totals.

Jets' Stuart (Lower Body) On IR

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) will be placed on IR by the Jets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: With Mark Stuart's lower-body injury evidently lingering, the blueliner heads to IR to make room for the team's activation of Mathieu Perreault.

Jets' Stuart (Undisclosed) Sitting Out Wednesday

News: Mark Stuart (undisclosed) will not play Wednesday against the Blue Jackets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart's injury isn't believed to be significant, but with the Jets readying for a prolonged break after Wednesday's game and Jacob Trouba (lower body) cleared to return to the lineup, the veteran blueliner will be given the night off. Expect Stuart to be ready to go for the Jets' first game out of the All-Star break Jan. 27, when he'll likely join Trouba on the team's third defensive pair.

Jets' Stuart A 'Maybe' For Wednesday

News: Mark Stuart missed Tuesday's practice for what coach Paul Maurice described as "maintenance," AM 680 CJOB Sports reports. However, the blueliner is considered questionable for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jackets, according to Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun.
Analysis: It sounds like Mark Stuart's availability will hinge on Jacob Trouba's own health, as he's nearing a return from a lengthy absence due to a foot injury. If the team determines Wednesday morning that Trouba is fit to play, Stuart will likely bow out of the lineup for a game, which should provide him with enough time to recuperate from whatever is ailing him.

Jets' Stuart (Lower Body) Will Play Saturday

News: Coach Paul Maurice confirmed Mark Stuart (lower body) would be activated from injured reserve and return to the lineup Saturday against the Kings, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Wow. Initially expected to be sidelined through February with the injury, Mark Stuart was able to beat his recovery timetable by a full three weeks. He'll be one of three Jets skaters to return from long-term injuries Saturday, as Evander Kane (lower body) and Toby Enstrom (lower body) will also rejoin the lineup. Look for Stuart to be plugged in on the Jets' third pairing with Jay Harrison, where he'll make up for his lack of offensive ability with a bounty of hits and blocks.

Jets' Stuart (Lower Body) Could Be Back

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) skated as part of a regular defensive pairing at the Jets' morning skate and could be back in the lineup Saturday against the Kings, Shane Hnidy of TSN reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart was projected to be out until February and only resumed skating a few days ago, so it would qualify as a major surprise if he ends up returning to action Saturday. The team continues to list him on injured reserve for now, and even if he ends up sitting Saturday, at the very least, it's clear he's further along in his recovery than anticipated.

Jets' Stuart (Lower Body) Skates With Team

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) skated with the team at Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: Mark Stuart seems to be recovering as anticipated from the injury, but he's still unlikely to return until early February. He's one of four Jets blueliners on injured reserve at the moment.

Jets Move Stuart (Lower Body) To IR

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart's placement on IR cleared a roster spot for Patrice Cormier, as the Jets were in need of an extra forward with Evander Kane (lower body) uncertain to play Monday. The blueliner isn't expected to return to action until February.

Jets' Stuart Out Until February

News: Coach Paul Maurice announced Thursday that Mark Stuart will be out until February with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Winnipeg's situation on defense has turned from troubling to dire, as Mark Stuart's absence means that all of the Jets' top four blueliners are now out with significant injuries. Though Stuart offers the least offensive ability of those four players, he's arguably the most feisty, as he leads the team in blocked shots (74) and ranks fifth in hits (74). He apparently suffered the injury during a fight in Tuesday's 5-1 rout of the Sabres.

Jets' Stuart: Three Assists In Last Four

News: Mark Stuart collected a shorthanded assist in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: The blueliner has picked up an assist in three of the last four games while the Jets' attack has started to awaken. Rather than scoring, Mark Stuart has been most useful to Winnipeg by simply playing soundly in his own zone and staying healthy. That latter factor has helped create some needed stability in a top four that will be without Toby Enstrom (lower body) and Zach Bogosian (lower body) for multiple weeks.

Rare Multi-Point Game For Jets' Stuart

News: Mark Stuart picked up two assists -- one on an empty-net goal -- in Thursday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: The nice night ended a seven-game scoreless stretch for Mark Stuart, who isn't generally known for his offense. He doesn't often record multi-point games -- in fact, this was his first one since March 10, 2013.

Jets' Stuart Tallies Goal In Season Debut

News: Mark Stuart recorded a goal on his lone shot attempt in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Mark Stuart nearly saw his tally taken off the board after he whisked the puck past goalie Mike Smith on the near post, but video replay showed that the puck had crossed the line for the score. Hardly a player that looks for his own offense, Stuart might have already met his season quota for goal-scoring, after recording just four in total over his last two campaigns, spanning 111 games. The defensive stalwart will offer most of his contributions in specialty categories, such as hits, blocks and penalty minutes.

Jets' Stuart Dealing With Muscle Issue

News: Mark Stuart is dealing with a minor muscle issue, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart is apparently improving and is considered day-to-day at this point. The injury doesn't appear as though it will cost him any regular season time.

Jets Ink Stuart To Extension

News: Mark Stuart signed a four-year, $10.5 million extension with the Jets on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 29-year-old doesn't exactly light it up offensively with only nine points in 50 games, but he's been a rock for the Jets on their half of the ice. He leads the team with 163 hits and 118 blocked shots and will now be counted on to bring that same brand of toughness for the next several seasons in Winnipeg.

Jets' Stuart Offering Steady Play Defensively

News: Mark Stuart has two goals and six assists in 47 games this season.
Analysis: The blueliner hasn't cracked the score sheet in five games, as he's really more of a stay-at-home player than one who is going to make a fantasy impact.

Jets' Stuart Practices Saturday

News: Mark Stuart (lower-body injury) took the morning skate for the Jets on Saturday, according to TSN's Sara Orlesky.
Analysis: Mark Stuart is not a fantasy worthy defenseman as the Jets have Tobias Enstrom, Jacob Trouba and Dustin Byfuglien ahead of him offensively on the depth chart. That said, seeing Stuart skate means it's likely that he's going to play in Colorado on Sunday.

Jets' Stuart Sits Out Friday

News: Mark Stuart sat out Friday's game against the Wild due to a lower-body injury, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart left Sunday's game against the Canucks with a lower-body injury, so we're not sure if this is related even though he played Monday. The blueliner has a modest six points on the season, though his absence may have been felt defensively Friday, as the Jets have allowed four goals through two periods.

Jets' Stuart Ready To Go For Monday

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) will play Monday against the Oilers, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After making it through the optional morning skate unhindered, Mark Stuart will stay in the lineup without having missed any game action. He'll likely pair up with usual mate Jacob Trouba on Monday.

Jets' Stuart Leaves With Injury Sunday

News: Mark Stuart left Sunday's game against the Canucks with a lower body injury, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart totaled 15:17 of ice time with three blocked shots before leaving with the injury. His status for Monday's game against the Oilers is uncertain.

Jets' Stuart Scores First

News: Mark Stuart scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 win over the Islanders on Wednesday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart was solid in this game posting a plus-3 rating to go with the goal. He's more of a depth defenseman so offensive production is just a bonus. He's not really a fantasy factor on a team that boasts Tobias Enstrom and Dustin Byfuglien on the blue line.

Jets Activate Stuart From IR

News: Mark Stuart (hip) was activated from injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart declared he was ready to play following Friday's session and team doctors apparently felt the same way, clearing him for a return in advance of Saturday's game vs. the Wild. Zach Redmond was demoted to AHL St. John's to clear room for Stuart's return to the active roster.
