Jets' Stuart Out Until February

News: Coach Paul Maurice announced Thursday that Mark Stuart will be out until February with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Winnipeg's situation on defense has turned from troubling to dire, as Mark Stuart's absence means that all of the Jets' top four blueliners are now out with significant injuries. Though Stuart offers the least offensive ability of those four players, he's arguably the most feisty, as he leads the team in blocked shots (74) and ranks fifth in hits (74). He apparently suffered the injury during a fight in Tuesday's 5-1 rout of the Sabres.

Jets' Stuart: Three Assists In Last Four

News: Mark Stuart collected a shorthanded assist in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: The blueliner has picked up an assist in three of the last four games while the Jets' attack has started to awaken. Rather than scoring, Mark Stuart has been most useful to Winnipeg by simply playing soundly in his own zone and staying healthy. That latter factor has helped create some needed stability in a top four that will be without Toby Enstrom (lower body) and Zach Bogosian (lower body) for multiple weeks.

Rare Multi-Point Game For Jets' Stuart

News: Mark Stuart picked up two assists -- one on an empty-net goal -- in Thursday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: The nice night ended a seven-game scoreless stretch for Mark Stuart, who isn't generally known for his offense. He doesn't often record multi-point games -- in fact, this was his first one since March 10, 2013.

Jets' Stuart Tallies Goal In Season Debut

News: Mark Stuart recorded a goal on his lone shot attempt in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Mark Stuart nearly saw his tally taken off the board after he whisked the puck past goalie Mike Smith on the near post, but video replay showed that the puck had crossed the line for the score. Hardly a player that looks for his own offense, Stuart might have already met his season quota for goal-scoring, after recording just four in total over his last two campaigns, spanning 111 games. The defensive stalwart will offer most of his contributions in specialty categories, such as hits, blocks and penalty minutes.

Jets' Stuart Dealing With Muscle Issue

News: Mark Stuart is dealing with a minor muscle issue, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart is apparently improving and is considered day-to-day at this point. The injury doesn't appear as though it will cost him any regular season time.

Jets Ink Stuart To Extension

News: Mark Stuart signed a four-year, $10.5 million extension with the Jets on Wednesday.
Analysis: The 29-year-old doesn't exactly light it up offensively with only nine points in 50 games, but he's been a rock for the Jets on their half of the ice. He leads the team with 163 hits and 118 blocked shots and will now be counted on to bring that same brand of toughness for the next several seasons in Winnipeg.

Jets' Stuart Offering Steady Play Defensively

News: Mark Stuart has two goals and six assists in 47 games this season.
Analysis: The blueliner hasn't cracked the score sheet in five games, as he's really more of a stay-at-home player than one who is going to make a fantasy impact.

Jets' Stuart Practices Saturday

News: Mark Stuart (lower-body injury) took the morning skate for the Jets on Saturday, according to TSN's Sara Orlesky.
Analysis: Mark Stuart is not a fantasy worthy defenseman as the Jets have Tobias Enstrom, Jacob Trouba and Dustin Byfuglien ahead of him offensively on the depth chart. That said, seeing Stuart skate means it's likely that he's going to play in Colorado on Sunday.

Jets' Stuart Sits Out Friday

News: Mark Stuart sat out Friday's game against the Wild due to a lower-body injury, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart left Sunday's game against the Canucks with a lower-body injury, so we're not sure if this is related even though he played Monday. The blueliner has a modest six points on the season, though his absence may have been felt defensively Friday, as the Jets have allowed four goals through two periods.

Jets' Stuart Ready To Go For Monday

News: Mark Stuart (lower body) will play Monday against the Oilers, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After making it through the optional morning skate unhindered, Mark Stuart will stay in the lineup without having missed any game action. He'll likely pair up with usual mate Jacob Trouba on Monday.

Jets' Stuart Leaves With Injury Sunday

News: Mark Stuart left Sunday's game against the Canucks with a lower body injury, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart totaled 15:17 of ice time with three blocked shots before leaving with the injury. His status for Monday's game against the Oilers is uncertain.

Jets' Stuart Scores First

News: Mark Stuart scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 win over the Islanders on Wednesday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart was solid in this game posting a plus-3 rating to go with the goal. He's more of a depth defenseman so offensive production is just a bonus. He's not really a fantasy factor on a team that boasts Tobias Enstrom and Dustin Byfuglien on the blue line.

Jets Activate Stuart From IR

News: Mark Stuart (hip) was activated from injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Mark Stuart declared he was ready to play following Friday's session and team doctors apparently felt the same way, clearing him for a return in advance of Saturday's game vs. the Wild. Zach Redmond was demoted to AHL St. John's to clear room for Stuart's return to the active roster.

Jets' Stuart Says He's Ready To Play

News: Mark Stuart (hip) said he is ready to play Saturday vs. the Wild, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart has taken part in contact practices the last couple of days and is convinced that he's shown he's finally over his hip injury. Doctors still have to check him out and officially clear him for a return to action, but it seems very likely that he'll be activated from IR on Saturday.

Jets' Stuart May Return Later This Week

News: Mark Stuart (hip) may return as early as later on this week, the Winnipeg Free Press reports. "It feels good. I've had some good skates. Still haven't gotten a lot of contact in." Stuart said.
Analysis: Mark Stuart hasn't played since being placed on injured reserve Nov. 1. His return will provide a boost to the Jets' defense.

Jets' Stuart Skates With Team Friday

News: Mark Stuart (hip) participated in morning skate with the Jets on Friday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart said he's been skating off-site for about a week now, but his presence at practice suggests he could be nearing a return. Once he makes it through contact work and demonstrates he's fully healthy, Stuart will likely be plugged in on the Jets' third pairing with either Keaton Ellerby or Adam Pardy.

Jets' Stuart Placed On Injured Reserve

News: Mark Stuart, who was previously listed as day-to-day with a hip injury, has now been placed on the injured reserve retroactive to October 29.
Analysis: The Jets defensemen continue to drop like flies with Mark Stuart joining Paul Postma (blood clot) and Jacob Trouba (neck) on the injured reserve. Stuart's injury comes at a bad time because the Jets will face the Blackhawks and Red Wings twice in their next six games. Head coach Claude Noel and the Jets are under the gun as pressure mounts to make the playoffs in the tougher Western Conference after near misses in the Eastern Conference. Julian Melchiori has been called up from St. John's but Ben Chiarot is expected to take Stuart's spot in the lineup Saturday against the Blackhawks.

Jets' Stuart Unlikely To Play Saturday

News: Mark Stuart (hip) did not skate Friday morning and is unlikely to play Saturday against Chicago, the Winnipeg Sun's Ken Wiebe reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart was able to play over 15 minutes on Tuesday, but his hip is still bothering him, so he'll likely sit out Saturday. If he does miss the game, Ben Chiarot will likely make his NHL debut in Stuart's place.

Jets' Stuart Skating Actively

News: Mark Stuart (hip) took part in the morning skate in preparation for Thursday's game against the Nashville Predators, Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart skated earlier this week but is still not playing. It's unclear whether he'll suit up on Thursday. Adam Pardy will start in place of Stuart should he be unfit to play. Stuart is not a factor in fantasy leagues, as he's a depth defenseman at best.

Jets' Stuart Hopes To Play Tuesday

News: Mark Stuart (hip) hopes to play Tuesday against the Capitals, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Mark Stuart was forced to miss Sunday's game against the Predators, but said he's improving, creating some optimism that he'll be ready to go Tuesday.

Jets' Stuart Out Against Predators

News: Mark Stuart took part in the morning skate but won't play Sunday against Nashville, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Adam Pardy has been called up from the AHL's St. John's IceCaps to take Mark Stuart's place. Stuart is more of a depth defenseman and not considered fantasy worthy with all-star calibre talent in front of him.

Jets' Stuart Skates Sunday

News: Mark Stuart (hip) took part in the Jets' morning skate Sunday, reports Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Analysis: Mark Stuart had crashed into the net during Friday's game and appeared to injure his rib cage, but the ailment was later diagnosed as a hip injury. His participation in Sunday's morning skate is a good sign, and he'll likely be a game-time decision for Sunday night's game against the Predators.

Jets Classify Stuart's Injury As Hip Issue

News: Mark Stuart's injury is being labeled as a hip ailment.
Analysis: The Jets previously termed the injury as a rib injury after he was forced from Friday's game. He is considered day-to-day, putting his status in question for Sunday's game against the Predators.

Jets' Stuart Exits Friday's Game With Apparent Rib Injury

News: Mark Stuart left Friday's game against the Blues with an apparent rib injury.
Analysis: Mark Stuart crashed into the net early in the third period, hitting his ribs into the post, and headed back to the locker room, but returned shortly thereafter. He stayed on the bench for a few minutes before attempting to take a shift but left the ice again shortly thereafter. He'll go for tests and be re-evaluated over the weekend so consider him day to day for now.

Jets' Stuart To Return To Action

News: Head Coach Claude Noel says Mark Stuart will return to action for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, TSN.ca reports. Stuart has missed the last six games due to an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Mark Stuart doesn't score much at all -- he only hit double-digit points twice in his first seven years in the NHL entering this season, and has just three points this campaign -- but he'll be needed for depth on the blue line, as Grant Clitsome suffered an eye injury during Monday's loss to the Rangers.
