Jets' Byfuglien Day-To-Day

News: Dustin Byfuglien (undisclosed) was held out of Monday's exhibition loss to the Oilers, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien is considered day-to-day with the undisclosed ailment, but the Jets don't seem to think he'll be unavailable for the team's regular-season opener. He'll be tabbed for a full-time role at forward this season, though it's not quite certain who his linemates might be to start the year.

Jets Confirm Byfuglien To Open Season As Forward

News: Jets coach Paul Maurice reiterated Thursday that Dustin Byfuglien would "start and finish" training camp as a forward, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: This was to be expected after Dustin Byfuglien played exclusively at forward when Maurice replaced Claude Noel as coach in January, and it should only help Big Buff's fantasy value in leagues where he retains eligibility as a defenseman. Byfuglien racked up 10 goals and 12 assists over 32 games on the wing last season, scoring at a rate actually lower than what he provided at the blue line. However, with a full offseason to prepare for a role at forward, Byfuglien stands a good chance at boosting his per-game point totals, but perhaps only if he's able to land a spot on the first or second line.

Jets Shut Down Byfuglien

News: Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) is done for the season due to a muscle tear.
Analysis: While the report does not specify the location or severity of the injury, with three games left on the Jets' regular-season slate and the team out of the playoff mix, Dustin Byfuglien will be shut down. Byfuglien finishes up the 2013-14 campaign with 20 goals and 56 points in 78 games to go along with 86 PIM and a minus-20 rating.

Jets' Byfuglien Misses Morning Skate

News: Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) was not present at Monday's morning skate, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien's status for Monday's game against the Wild is thus cloudy, with the Jets having recalled forward Carl Klingberg to bolster their depth up front in advance of their evening tilt at home.

Jets' Byfuglien Leaves with Injury

News: Dustin Byfuglien left Saturday's game with an upper-body injury, the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: The severity of the injury was not reported. Dustin Byfuglien is not expected to return.

Jets' Byfuglien Finds Score Sheet

News: Dustin Byfuglien assisted on Blake Wheeler's third period power-play goal in a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has 20 goals and 54 points on the year now, making him a premier fantasy option down the stretch. That said, his minus-19 rating downgrades his value in leagues where plus/minus is counted.

Jets' Byfuglien Should Start Saturday

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) is expected to play Saturday against the Hurricanes, according to a report by TSN's Sara Orlesky.
Analysis: Although it was already known earlier in the week that Dustin Byfuglien was targeting playing on Saturday, it should be noted he left Saturday's morning skate early. He is still expected to play according to coach Paul Maurice, but it should be noted he may not be at full strength against the Hurricanes.

Jets Expect Byfuglien Back Saturday

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) is expected to play Saturday against the Hurricanes, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien was held out of Wednesday's game with the injury, but it seems coach Paul Maurice is confident that the injury isn't something that will linger on. Since moving from defense to forward on Jan. 11, Byfuglien has nine goals and nine assists in 24 games.

Jets' Byfuglien Day-To-Day

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) won't play Wednesday against the Avs.
Analysis: Meanwhile, coach Paul Maurice indicated that Dustin Byfuglien is considered day-to-day in advance of Saturday's game against the Hurricanes.

Jets' Byfuglien Skips Morning Skate

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) did not participate in Wednesday's morning skate, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The report suggests that Dustin Byfuglien's absence could be precautionary, but his status will be worth tracking in advance of Wednesday night's contest against the Avs, given that he was a game-time decision for Monday's game against the Blues.

Jets' Byfuglien Logs 14 PIM Monday

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) ended up playing Monday vs. the Blues, seeing 18:49 worth of ice time.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien saw about four minutes fewer action than he typically receives, but much of that was a product of his 14 penalty minutes. He didn't register a point in the match, but supplied six hits on defense.

Jets' Byfuglien (Lower Body) A Game-Time Decision

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) is a game-time decision for Monday's matchup against the Blues, the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Jets didn't have a morning skate on Monday, making it difficult to judge Dustin Byfuglien's current status. Fantasy owners counting on him should be prepared to exercise other options on Monday, just in case he is unable to go.

Jets' Byfuglien Tallies Three Points

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored two goals, including a power-play goal, and had an assist against the Stars on Sunday. He was also a plus-3 and had seven shots on goal.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has six goals and eight points in his last five games. He is also fifth in the NHL in shots on goal.

Jets' Byfuglien Scores During Loss Friday

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored his 17th goal of the season during Winnipeg's 4-2 loss to the Rangers on Friday.
Analysis: The Rangers jumped out to a quick lead just under a minute and a half into the game, but before they could even celebrate a lead, Dustin Byfuglien found the net to tie it up. He now has 17 goals and 32 assists over 68 games this season and makes for an outstanding choice on defense in fantasy leagues.

Jets' Byfuglien Notches Two Goals

News: Dustin Byfuglien lit the lamp twice, including a power-play goal, against the Avalanche on Monday.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has 16 goals, and 48, points now. His point totals are in line with his career numbers, but his minus-17 rating is far and away a career low.

Byfuglien Carries Offense As Jets Fall

News: Dustin Byfuglien registered a goal and an assist in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Senators.
Analysis: The two points snapped a three-game pointless skid for Dustin Byfuglien, who now has 14 goals and 32 assists over 65 games this season. Byfuglien's time on ice has fallen considerably since he moved to forward, but given that he's likely still eligible at defenseman in most formats, his point production remains more than acceptable for his owners.

Late Byfuglien PP Goal Earns Jets A Point

News: Dustin Byfuglien supplied a third-period power-play goal in Saturday's shootout loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien's game-tying goal came with less than seven minutes remaining, effectively sending the game to overtime and at least ensuring the surging Jets came away with a point. The move to forward hasn't provided the tremendous boost in points that some might have expected for Byfuglien, but he appears to be settling in lately. He now has goals in each of his last two games, firing off 14 shots during that time.

Jets' Byfuglien Nets Winner

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored the game-winner in overtime Saturday. He also added an assist and now has 40 points in 53 games this season.
Analysis: He's still rolling as a forward, but has accumulated enough time on the blue line to let you roll him there. His ice time is nowhere near what it was when he was toiling on the blue line, but the Jets have a better-balanced attack with him on the wing. This wing assignment may be short lived, but keep him at D and take advantage of his production.

Jets' Byfuglien To Remain At Forward For Now

News: Interim coach Paul Maurice said that Dustin Byfuglien would remain at forward for the time being, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Although Maurice said that Dustin Byfuglien's position for the long haul was very much in flux, he'll stay on the wing in the short-term after delivering three assists in his two games at forward. Byfuglien was already one of the league's top-scoring defenseman, so a move to an even more offensive-minded role certainly vaults his fantasy value upward while he retains eligibility on the blue line.

Jets' Byfuglien Tallies Two Assists

News: Dustin Byfuglien picked up two assists and had six shots on net against the Coyotes on Monday.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has six points in his last five games, and 37 in total. He is a minus-16, but he is also in the top 10 in the NHL in shots on goal, which is nice value from a fantasy defenseman (who is currently spending time at wing).

Jets' Byfuglien: Assist In First Game At Forward

News: Dustin Byfuglien played Saturday's game at forward and picked up an assist in the loss. He skated on the top line with Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd.
Analysis: This experiment as a forward could last for a while as coach Claude Noel is trying to shake up his slumbering team and Big Buff is a part of that. He looked good Saturday, but we're not impressed with the body language he showed while on the bench during a timeout. He clearly wasn't listening to his coach and looked like a man who was itching for a trade. He's talented, but stuff like this can affect his team and his value.

Jets' Byfuglien Skating At Forward

News: Dustin Byfuglien skated at forward in Thursday's practice, according a to a report by Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien last skated as a forward back in the 2009-10 season as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. If playing up front and assuming a more offensive role in game action is on the horizon, he'll no doubt see a big boost in fantasy value.

Jets' Byfuglien Reaches Double-Digit Goals

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored his 10th goal of the year and added an assist -- both on the power play -- but went minus-2 in Tuesday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Buff's found twine in three of the last four games, but in the typical fashion of players cursed with the Jets' netminding woes, he's gone minus-5 in that span. On the plus side, he's now reached double-digit goals for the sixth time in his career.

Jets' Byfuglien Tallies Another Goal In Loss

News: Dustin Byfuglien registered his ninth goal of the season in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Even the rock-solid Tuukka Rask in the net for the opposition could not slow Dustin Byfuglien, who has now amassed three goals and two assists in his last five contests. Saturday's score was an unassisted effort that gave the Jets their only lead of the game midway through the first period.

Byfuglien Logs Multi-Point Effort In Jets' Loss

News: Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss to Ottawa on Thursday.
Analysis: After slumping out of the gate with just one point in his first five games of December, Buf has picked up the pace, notching two goals and seven assists over his last 10 games.
