Jets' Byfuglien Will Continue To Play Defense

News: Despite the Jets now having an abundance of depth at the blue line, Dustin Byfuglien will continue to play as a defenseman, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Winnipeg has been plagued by injuries to their defensive core all season. However, with the recent returns of Jacoub Trouba and Mark Stuart from injury, the Jets' blue line club has suddenly become crowded. This won't effect Dustin Byfuglien, however, who will continue to fulfill his role as a jack-of-all-trades defender. Byfuglien has had an outstanding All-Star caliber season, registering 31 points, 83 PIM, 141 hits and 46 blocks through 47 games with the Jets this year.

Pair Of Assists For Jets' Byfuglien

News: Dustin Byfuglien dished out a pair of helpers in Friday's 4-2 road victory over Chicago.
Analysis: Big Buff also grabbed a minor penalty, bringing his total in the transgressions department to 77 PIM. The Minnesota native has been ripping it up since the calendar turned to 2015, piling up 10 points in eight games, helping the Jets to 11 of a possible 16 points in the standings during that time. On top of his 30 points, Dustin Byfuglien leads the Jets in PIM and shots on goal (142), making him a hot fantasy commodity and one that should be inserted into your lineup -- either at forward, or defense, as many formats have granted him dual eligibility -- every time he laces 'em up.

Jets' Byfuglien Celebrates All-Star Nod

News: Dustin Byfuglien celebrated his All-Star selection by ripping off a pair of goals and a power-play assist in Tuesday's romp over the Panthers.
Analysis: Why'd they ever move him off the blue line? The guy is simply a stud as a defenseman, but he's not even a top-six guy as a forward. Fortunately, he's playing plenty of D now, and the results have been excellent. He has a three-game point streak, with a sparkly six points in that span, and few around the league can match his combination of points, PIM and hits.

Jets' Byfuglien Named NHL All-Star

News: Dustin Byfuglien has been named an NHL All-Star, Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The announcement hardly comes as a surprise, as Dustin Byfuglien has been phenomenal both for his team and his fantasy owners this season. He has established himself as one of the more dependable and consistent fantasy options during the first half of this season, and will look to continue to post excellent numbers over the course of the second half of the season. Byfuglien has tallied 25 points, 71 PIM, 135 SOG and 133 hits thus far this year with the Jets.

Jets' Byfuglien Dominates In Victory

News: Dustin Byfuglien had a strong fantasy outing Saturday, dishing out two assists, registering four shots on goal, dishing out five hits, picking up two PIM and recording a plus-2 rating in a game-high 29:51 of ice time in a win over the Kings.
Analysis: Big Buff pretty much does it all. The 29-year-old blueliner now has 16 points (six goals) in his last 18 games, making him one of the more reliable fantasy options around. Dustin Byfuglien has now collected 69 PIM this season -- eighth most in the NHL. His 132 shots on goal and 130 hits also make him a great all-around fantasy option. Use him well.

Jets' Byfuglien: One-Man Wrecking Crew Over Leafs

News: Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over the Leafs on Saturday night. He also finished plus-4 with five SOG and three hits.
Analysis: Big Buff used his size and speed to dominate the Leafs at times on Saturday night. He knocked guys around and protected the puck like he was playing keep-away on the playground. He now has 22 points in 39 games this season and has clearly adjusted to playing back on the blue line again.

Jets' Byfuglien Dominates Sunday Vs. Flyers

News: Dustin Byfuglien put together a monster fantasy outing Sunday, scoring his eighth goal of the season, dishing out five hits, blocking seven shots, and logging a game-high 26:53 of ice time in an overtime loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has been very productive since being moved back to defense, recording three goals and seven points in eight games. He is logging heavy minutes on the Jet's blueline and has fired 112 shots on goal -- eighth most in the NHL. He's only been held off the scoresheet four times in his last 14 games, making him a dependable and consistent fantasy option. Keep him rolling.

Jets' Byfuglien Practices Day After Stick To Face

News: Dustin Byfuglien was on the ice for Saturday's practice, despite taking a stick to the face in the game against the Bruins a night earlier, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The incident happened late in the third period of Friday's game, so it put his status in some question before he alleviated those concerns by practicing. Dustin Byfuglien has been a force for the Jets since moving back to defense, and he turned in one of his better games Friday, skating for 27:04 and notching an assist en route to claiming first-star honors.

Jets' Byfuglien On Hot Streak

News: Dustin Byfuglien assisted on the Jets' first two goals -- Mathieu Perreault's power-play marker and Blake Wheeler's even-strength tally -- in the first period of Tuesday's 5-2 win over Dallas.
Analysis: That's a five-game point streak now for Buff, and the last three games of it have come since he moved back to the blue line. All of a sudden, things are coming together for the 29-year-old.

Jets' Byfuglien Thrives In First Game Back On D

News: Dustin Byfuglien was highly productive in his move back to defense Friday against the Avalanche, finishing with a goal, five shots, four hits and a plus-2 rating over 26:24 of ice time.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien had already been playing productively of late with goals in each of his previous two games, and he didn't miss a beat in his transition from wing Friday. With Tobias Enstrom and Zach Bogosian both slated for long absences, look for Byfuglien to remain on defense for at least a couple of weeks.

Jets' Byfuglien To Move Back To Defense

News: Coach Paul Maurice said after Thursday's practice that Dustin Byfuglien would play at defenseman until further notice, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Jets will be without two of their top-four defenseman in Zach Bogosian and Toby Enstrom for multiple weeks due to lower-body injuries, so Dustin Byfuglien will vacate his position on the wing to give the team some more talent on its blueline. Although it's possible that Byfuglien is already eligible at defense in certain formats after having played there for part of last season, it's worthwhile to check your league settings to see if or when he can be stashed there. Byfuglien's offensive production and ability to rack up penalty minutes brings far greater fantasy value from a defenseman roster spot than it would at forward.

Jets' Byfuglien Practices At Defense Thursday

News: Dustin Byfuglien was practicing at defenseman Thursday, Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: While coach Paul Maurice didn't officially announce his lineup plans for Friday's game against the Avalanche, it looks like Dustin Byfuglien could be in line for a move from forward back to the blue line after all of Toby Enstrom, Zach Bogosian and Grant Clitsome were diagnosed with multi-week injuries. Byfuglien has been useful depth forward for the Jets with five goals, 11 points and 84 shots in 26 games this season, but the move back to blue line would surely aid his fantasy value if he's able to regain eligibility there. Stay tuned for where he lines up during Friday's morning skate, as that will likely provide better insight into Maurice's plans.

Jets' Byfuglien Snaps Goal-Scoring Slump

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored his first goal since Oct. 20 in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: This season's been a struggle for Buff on the offensive end, but he continues to put plentiful pucks on net, and now that he's got the monkey off his back, his shots could start sneaking past opposing netminders more often.

Jets' Byfuglien Is Overdue

News: Dustin Byfuglien "knows that he is due, if not overdue" to start putting the puck in the net, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: While fantasy owners who play in leagues that employ the penalty minutes category have likely enjoyed the big winger's team leading 47 minutes in the box, Dustin Byfuglien hasn't yet produced much in terms of goals and assists, tallying only four points through the team's first 19 games. However, Byfuglien leads the Jets in shots on goal with 62, plays at the point on the team's second power play unit, and averages almost 20 minutes of ice time per game (good for seventh best on the team). As such, the odds that Byfuglien will start to enjoy some form of offensive success, whether it be tickling the twine or assisting his teammates, are certainly in his favor. If Byfuglien can pair respectable offensive point production with his strong defensive game (he's currently fourth in the league in PIM and tied for eighth in hits with 58), he'll cement himself as a valuable fantasy commodity for his owners.

Jets' Byfuglien Tallies Assist In Win

News: Dustin Byfuglien ripped off five shots and assisted on a first period goal in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien still hasn't found the back of the net in seven straight contests, but he was able to pick up his fourth point of the season in the win. The shots have been there of late, so the goals could come eventually especially given his 5.0% shot percentage, which is the lowest of his career.

Jets' Byfuglien Nabs Goal In Victory

News: Dustin Byfuglien tallied an unassisted goal in Tuesday's victory over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has only two points (both goals) in his six games this season, but it certainly hasn't been due to a lack of effort. He's compiled 18 penalty minutes, 16 hits and a team-high 25 shots on goal, resulting in a plus-4 rating for the converted defenseman. Once the Jets get things clicking on a power-play unit that has yet to score in six games, the points could come in droves for Byfuglien, who has historically excelled with the man advantage.

Jets' Byfuglien Cools Off In Sin Bin

News: Dustin Byfuglien was tagged with four penalties and spent 16 minutes in the box in Saturday's loss to the Sharks.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien's extensive time in the sin bin resulted in him spending just 13:28 of the contest on the ice. He still managed to lead the team with five shots on goal in the defeat.

Jets' Byfuglien Scores in Season Opener

News: Dustin Byfuglien scored in the second period of Winnipeg's season opener on Thursday.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien's goal resulted from a two-on-one with Blake Wheeler. Wheeler fed a wide open Byfuglien in the slot, who then finished from point-blank range with his back hand. The goal is a promising sign for Byfuglien's owners, who hope the big man's full-time move from defenseman to forward will yield improved offensive production this season.

Jets' Byfuglien (Lower Body) Back At Full Strength

News: Dustin Byfuglien (lower body) returned to practice Friday and declared himself fit to play, Paul Wiecek of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien admitted that it was a lower-body injury that had kept him out of most of training camp, making the transition back to a full-time role at forward a little more challenging than anticipated. The missed time has prompted coach Paul Maurice to table his plans of using Byfuglien in a top-six role for now, with the winger now likely to join the third line with Adam Lowry and Mathieu Perreault to start the season. While he won't play in Saturday's preseason finale, Byfuglien and Maurice are both confident that with a few more practices, he'll be able to establish some chemistry with his linemates and produce right away when the regular season gets underway. If that comes to fruition, it might not be long before Byfuglien is elevated to the second line, where he'd join Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd, both of whom compiled over 50 points last season.

Jets' Byfuglien Day-To-Day

News: Dustin Byfuglien (undisclosed) was held out of Monday's exhibition loss to the Oilers, the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien is considered day-to-day with the undisclosed ailment, but the Jets don't seem to think he'll be unavailable for the team's regular-season opener. He'll be tabbed for a full-time role at forward this season, though it's not quite certain who his linemates might be to start the year.

Jets Confirm Byfuglien To Open Season As Forward

News: Jets coach Paul Maurice reiterated Thursday that Dustin Byfuglien would "start and finish" training camp as a forward, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: This was to be expected after Dustin Byfuglien played exclusively at forward when Maurice replaced Claude Noel as coach in January, and it should only help Big Buff's fantasy value in leagues where he retains eligibility as a defenseman. Byfuglien racked up 10 goals and 12 assists over 32 games on the wing last season, scoring at a rate actually lower than what he provided at the blue line. However, with a full offseason to prepare for a role at forward, Byfuglien stands a good chance at boosting his per-game point totals, but perhaps only if he's able to land a spot on the first or second line.

Jets Shut Down Byfuglien

News: Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) is done for the season due to a muscle tear.
Analysis: While the report does not specify the location or severity of the injury, with three games left on the Jets' regular-season slate and the team out of the playoff mix, Dustin Byfuglien will be shut down. Byfuglien finishes up the 2013-14 campaign with 20 goals and 56 points in 78 games to go along with 86 PIM and a minus-20 rating.

Jets' Byfuglien Misses Morning Skate

News: Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) was not present at Monday's morning skate, Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien's status for Monday's game against the Wild is thus cloudy, with the Jets having recalled forward Carl Klingberg to bolster their depth up front in advance of their evening tilt at home.

Jets' Byfuglien Finds Score Sheet

News: Dustin Byfuglien assisted on Blake Wheeler's third period power-play goal in a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
Analysis: Dustin Byfuglien has 20 goals and 54 points on the year now, making him a premier fantasy option down the stretch. That said, his minus-19 rating downgrades his value in leagues where plus/minus is counted.
