Sprained Knee For Preds' Rinne

News: Pekka Rinne's lower-body injury has been diagnosed as a sprained knee, NHL.com's Robby Stanley reports.
Analysis: As was announced earlier Thursday, Pekka Rinne will miss approximately three-to-five weeks due to the injury. Rinne will be reevaluated after resting through the All-Star break, with Carter Hutton and Marek Mazanec handling the goaltending duties for the Predators while he remains sidelined.

Preds' Rinne (Lower Body) To Miss 3-5 Weeks

News: Pekka Rinne (lower body) was ruled out for the next three-to-five weeks following his visit with a doctor Thursday morning.
Analysis: It's a doomsday scenario for the Predators, who have ascended to the top of the Western Conference on the strength of Pekka Rinne's superhuman performance this season. The netminder had won 10 of his last 11 starts and was running away with the Vezina Trophy, going 29-6-2 with a 1.96 GAA and .931 save percentage. The Predators have probably built up enough cushion to remain in good shape for the playoffs once Rinne is ready to return at some point in February, but the goalie play figures to take a sharp hit with Carter Hutton and Marek Mazanec now set to assume the crease.

Preds' Rinne To Miss At Least Three More Games

News: Pekka Rinne suffered a sprained knee during Tuesday's win over Vancouver and will miss at least the next three games, plus the upcoming All-Star Weekend.
Analysis: As good as Pekka Rinne's been playing this season, this is a pretty big hiccup for most fantasy teams. The goaltender will be reevaluated after the break, while Carter Hutton appears in line to pick up more starts for the Preds.

Update On Preds' Rinne (Lower Body) To Come Thurs.

News: The Predators will provide an update on Pekka Rinne's (lower body) status after Thursday's practice, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne was removed from Tuesday's start with 17:05 remaining in the third period following a collision behind the net. With the team declining to provide an update as of yet, Rinne should be considered day-to-day, though he does appear at risk of missing the Preds' next game Friday. Nashville's AHL affiliate in Milwaukee recalled a goalie from the ECHL on Wednesday, perhaps signaling that one of their own goalies will be receiving a call-up from the Predators to fill in for Rinne.

Preds' Rinne Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Pekka Rinne was removed from Tuesday's game with 17 minutes remaining in the third period due to a lower-body injury, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: He's currently listed as day-to-day; an update on his status will be provided at Thursday's practice. Pekka Rinne was knocked backward into the boards along with the net in the third period and had to leave the ice. He leads the NHL with 29 wins and has not lost a game in regulation since Dec. 13. Carter Hutton replaced Rinne over the final 17 minutes Tuesday.

Preds' Rinne To Start Tuesday

News: Pekka Rinne will be in net Tuesday against the Canucks, Brooks Bratten of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne has been on fire lately, and really, throughout the season. He's secured wins in nine of his last 10 starts, and leads the league with 28 wins on the campaign. Rinne, who has posted career bests in GAA (1.98) and save percentage (.930) thus far, remains a must-play in all formats every time he gets the starting nod for Nashville.

Preds' Rinne Dazzles Again Saturday

News: Pekka Rinne was marvelous Saturday afternoon, turning aside 36 of 37 shots in a 3-1 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne has now rattled off five straight wins and a league-leading 28 on the season for the NHL's number one (!) team, making him an early favorite for the Vezina Trophy and an easy choice for the upcoming All-Star Game in Columbus. Better yet, his 1.98 GAA and .930 save percentage come in heartily above his already-terrific career marks of 2.35 and .919, making him a must-play in all formats each time he takes to the blue paint.

Preds' Rinne To Start Saturday

News: Pekka Rinne led the Predators on the ice for warmups and will get the start in goal Saturday against the Wild, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne submitted a dud in a matinee start last weekend in allowing six goals to the Kings, but he returned back to form the next two outings, allowing two goals apiece in wins over the Hurricanes and Stars. He's been victorious in seven of his last eight starts and remains a superb play against the Wild, who will start their No. 2 goalie in Niklas Backstrom.

Preds' Rinne Good Enough To Win Thursday

News: Pekka Rinne turned in a modest stat line of 18 saves on 20 shots Thursday against the Stars, but came away with his 27th win of the year.
Analysis: That is in fact four straight wins and eight of nine for Pekka Rinne, even though he's had a few subpar outings in that span. He's been outstanding, and the Nashville offense has been there to pick him up when needed. That's a fantastic combination for fantasy purposes.

Preds' Rinne Confirmed For Thursday

News: Pekka Rinne has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Thursday's tilt with the Stars.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne will try to keep the Preds' six-game point streak alive in a matchup of Central Division foes. The netminder has a league-leading 26 wins on the season, four more than any other goalie.

Preds' Rinne Projected To Start Thursday

News: Pekka Rinne is projected to start Thursday against the Stars.
Analysis: After allowing six goals over the weekend against the Kings, Pekka Rinne bounced back quite nicely in his return to the net Tuesday, stopping 23 of 25 shots to dispatch the Hurricanes. The Stars will ice one of the league's better offenses, but fantasy owners shouldn't even think about turning away from Rinne, who has been the league's best goalie this season.

Preds' Rinne Back On Track After Bad Game

News: Pekka Rinne stopped 23 of 25 shots to emerge with a 3-2 victory over Carolina on Tuesday.
Analysis: After a six-goal game -- but a victory -- against the Kings over the weekend, Pekka Rinne got right back on track with the sort of strong performance we've grown accustomed to seeing from him all year long. At 26-6-2 with rate stats that make most other goalies jealous, he's the best netminder in fantasy, bar none.

Preds' Rinne Confirmed For Tuesday

News: Pekka Rinne has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Ignore the six-goal debacle during his last turn over the weekend against the Kings; Pekka Rinne is still the top fantasy goalie out there. Look for him to return to form against the Hurricanes, who carry a 12-23-4 record into Tuesday's tilt.

Preds' Rinne On Track To Start Tuesday

News: Pekka Rinne is projected to get the start Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne was uncharacteristically erratic in Saturday's win over the Kings, as he allowed a season-high six goals, including three in the final three minutes of regulation. Fortunately, his teammates were able to pick him up to give him the win -- his league-leading 25th of the season. Expect him to get back on track against the low-scoring Hurricanes.

Preds Tap Rinne For Saturday Start

News: Pekka Rinne will be in the crease Saturday against the Kings, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: The Predators will kick off a weekend back-to-back set in Southern California with a match against the defending champs at the Staples Center, providing a tough test for Pekka Rinne. It's unclear if coach Peter Laviolette plans to lean on Rinne for Sunday's game against the Ducks, but it wouldn't be surprising given how frequently the Predators have called his number on consecutive days this season. Despite assuming one of the largest workloads in the league, it hasn't hindered Rinne's Vezina-worthy numbers.

Preds' Rinne Wins Wild One Saturday

News: Pekka Rinne had his worst game of the year Saturday -- surrendering a season-high six goals on 30 shots -- but escaped with the victory as Nashville hung on to beat the Kings 7-6 in overtime.
Analysis: Both teams shot the lights out in what was a goalie's nightmare Saturday afternoon at Staples Center, but it was the big Finn who prevailed to grab his league-leading 25th win of the year. The six goals actually took a pretty good chunk out of his ratios -- decreasing his save percentage from .935 to .929 and bringing his GAA from 1.88 to 2.00 -- but make no mistake: Pekka Rinne is an elite goaltender on a potent Predators squad that will likely finish the season as a serious Vezina Trophy candidate. Keep him locked into your crease.

Preds' Rinne Rebounds With Win Over Blues

News: Pekka Rinne stopped 26 of 28 shots in Tuesday's victory over St. Louis.
Analysis: A night after he faced 42 shots and blew a third-period lead in a loss to the Blackhawks, the Preds rolled right Pekka Rinne back out there, and he delivered an outing much more in line with what we've come to expect from him. He's limited the opposition to two or fewer goals in 14 of his last 18 starts.

Predators' Rinne Starting Tuesday

News: Pekka Rinne will start Tuesday's game against the Blues, Eric Stromgren of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne and the Predators blew a three-goal lead in Monday's shootout loss to the Blackhawks, proving that everything can't go right all the time. Rinne caries a 23-6-2 record, 1.88 GAA and .934 save percentage into a matchup with Blues netminder Brian Elliott. It's not an easy matchup, as the Blues rank ninth in goals per game (2.9) and first in power-play percentage (24.6).

Preds' Rinne Blows Three-Goal Lead Monday

News: Despite making 38 of 42 saves against the Blackhawks on Monday, Pekka Rinne coughed up a three-goal lead before losing 5-4 in a shootout.
Analysis: With the game nearly half over, the surprisingly potent Predators offense had staked Pekka Rinne to a cushy three-goal lead before Chicago went off for three unanswered goals in less than eight minutes to tie things up. After James Neal scored the go-ahead goal for Nashville at the end of the second, the Blackhawks' Bryan Bickell squeaked one past Rinne with the goalie pulled with less than two minutes remaining to send it to the extra frame. Although it's a tough loss to stomach, Rinne has been absolute money for owners this year with his league-leading 23 wins, flashy .935 save percentage and stingy 1.81 GAA, and will continue to grab the lion's share of starts in the Music City. In short, we don't expect the wins to stop flowing in any time soon for Rinne and the Preds, so keep him locked in whenever he's between the pipes.

Predators' Rinne Starts Monday

News: Pekka Rinne will start Monday's game against the Blackhawks, Eric Stomgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne will go for his league-best 24th win Monday, but he will face a stiff challenge from a Chicago squad that currently sits second in the NHL with 50 points.

Preds' Rinne Projected To Start Monday

News: Pekka Rinne is projected to start Monday against the Blackhawks, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne is an auto-roll at this point, but if there's any matchup that should give fantasy owners some pause, it might be this one. In fact, it was the Blackhawks who handed Rinne one of his six regulation losses this season, with the goalie taking a 3-1 loss Dec. 6. Corey Crawford is set to oppose Rinne in the other net Monday.

Preds' Rinne Stops 26 Shots To Edge Flyers

News: Pekka Rinne stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced in Saturday's win over the Flyers.
Analysis: You can't spell Vezina without "Pekka Rinne". Wait, that might not be totally true, but you get the point. The 32-year-old has now won four straight games, advancing to 23-6-1 on the season. With a .935 save percentage, 1.81 GAA, and three shutouts, Rinne has arguably been the best goalie in the NHL this season. You know what to do.

Preds' Rinne To Get Start Vs. Flyers

News: Pekka Rinne will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Flyers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne received a much-deserved rest Tuesday versus the Bruins and surely benefited from three more days off during the Christmas break, so expect him to be sharp in his return to action. Still the leading contender to claim the Vezina Trophy after getting off to a 22-6-1 start over his first 29 outings, Rinne should be the favorite to add another victory to his ledger with the Flyers countering with their backup netminder in Ray Emery.

Preds To Give Rinne A Rest Tuesday

News: Pekka Rinne will not be in the crease Tuesday against the Bruins, as backup Carter Hutton gets the nod, Eric Stromgren of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne has made every start for the Predators since Nov. 22, spanning 13 games. The heavy workload has done nothing to diminish his outstanding numbers on the season (1.84 GAA, .934 save percentage), but even the best netminders need a day off sometimes. Hutton will be making just his fourth appearance of the season.

Preds' Rinne Solid In Win

News: Pekka Rinne made 30 saves on 31 shots in Monday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Pekka Rinne continues to be a must-start as he collected his third straight win and league-leading 22nd of the season. The 32-year-old has a 1.84 GAA and .934 save percentage, so keep him rolling.
