Lebda Signs PTO With AHL Binghamton

News: Brett Lebda has signed a professional tryout offer with AHL Binghamton, ESPN's Corey Pronman reports.
Analysis: Brett Lebda was released by AHL Rockford on Jan. 25, but it appears he will get a shot to continue his career with the Senators' AHL affiliate. The blueliner had registered 11 points in 27 games for the IceHogs this season before being let go.

Columbus Activates Lebda From IR

News: Brett Lebda (thumb) was activated from IR on Friday, BlueJackets.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: It's a surprisingly quick return for Brett Lebda, who was expected to miss several weeks as of Feb. 6. He's not likely to be a fantasy factor, in any case, with 13 points in his last 109 NHL games.

Jackets' Lebda Begins Skating

News: Brett Lebda (thumb) has begun skating, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: There's no timetable yet on when he'll be ready for game action, or what role he'll have when he returns now that the rest of the Blue Jackets' blue line is getting healthier as well.

Columbus Places Lebda On IR

News: Brett Lebda (thumb) was placed on IR on Friday, BlueJackets.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Brett Lebda is week-to-week at the moment after having the tip of his thumb broken off by a flying puck Feb. 3. It would surprise if he's out for more than a month or so, however.

Blue Jackets' Lebda To Miss A Few Weeks

News: Brett Lebda could miss several weeks due to the thumb injury suffered on Friday, the Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Brett Lebda, who will undergo a procedure to repair the thumb Monday, has recorded a goal in five games thus far. His injury represents yet another hit to the Blue Jackets' depleted blue line, which is already without several key components.

Jackets' Lebda Suffers Hand Injury

News: Brett Lebda left Friday's game in the first period with a hand injury, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets will have a better idea of the severity of the injury after they return to Columbus on Saturday. With three defensemen already on the shelf, the Jackets can ill afford to lose Brett Lebda as well.

Lebda Scores First Blue Jackets Goal

News: Brett Lebda scored his first goal as a member of the Blue Jackets in Tuesday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: The goal was Brett Lebda's first since last February. Clearly the Jackets aren't expecting this to be a regular occurrence from him.

Preds Part Ways With Lebda

News: The Predators have bought out the remaining year on Brett Lebda's contract, according to the Tennessean.
Analysis: Brett Lebda was acquired from Toronto earlier in the summer in a salary dumping move. Look for him to try and catch on with another team before the start of the upcoming season, at a significant discount to the $1.4 million he was set to make with the Preds.

Lebda's Contract Bought Out By Predators

News: The Predators bought out Lebda's contract Wednesday for just under $1 million, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: The Predators acquired Lebda in early July from the Maple Leafs, but he never suited up for Nashville. Lebda may have trouble finding playing time on an NHL team this season, so Mirtle suggests he could wind up in Europe.

Preds Acquire Lebda From Leafs

News: Lebda has been traded to Nashville along with forward Robert Slaney in exchange for Matthew Lombardi and Cody Franson, according to the Tennessean.
Analysis: Lebda had just four points in 41 games for the Leafs last season after suffering an assortment of injuries (leg, shoulder). He will likely wind up on the Preds' third defensive pairing next season if he can stay healthy, but given his track record, that may be a tall order. Lebda's fantasy value remains limited to very deep leagues at this time.

Leafs' Lebda: Re-Assessed Tuesday

News: Lebda (leg) will be re-assessed Tuesday morning and hopes to suit up against the Islanders that night, reports Toronto's FAN590.
Analysis: He took a Dion Phaneuf slapper off the inside of his left leg and was immediately hobbled. He is being counted on to be a puck-moving defender for the Buds now that Tomas Kaberle is gone but he hasn't shown signs that he can pull it off.

Leafs' Lebda Bruises Leg

News: The bruised leg that Lebda suffered Monday when he was hit by a puck is not considered serious, James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Lebda avoided serious injury, but it's still unclear as to whether his availability for Tuesday's game against the Islanders might be affected.

Leafs' Lebda Injured At Practice

Leafs To Use Lebda On Wing

News: Lebda will dress for Monday's game as a left winger, reports the Toronto Star.
Analysis: The defenseman will skate with John Mitchell and Colton Orr on the fourth line. Those of you with single-game qualifications may want to take note but only those in deep leagues. He's a good skater but he's not the second coming at left wing. Mind you, he often rolled on the wing with Detroit last year and wasn't out of place.

Lebda: Leafs' Debut Monday

News: Lebda (shoulder) will make his debut Monday against the Islanders, reports theToronto Star.
Analysis: "It's been long enough," said Lebda. "My shoulder feels good and it's good to get out there [Monday]." He will bring some extra mobility to the defense corps when he does lace them up. His fantasy value will be limited on a deep D.

Lebda Ready for Leafs Debut

News: Lebda (shoulder) may make his debut Wednesday against the Penguins, reports the Toronto Star.
Analysis: Lebda brings a veteran presence to the bottom pairing for the Leafs; time will tell if he can earn enough ice time to warrant fantasy value in deep formats.

Leafs' Lebda in Sling

News: Lebda is out 10-14 days with an upper-body injury, reports Toronto's AM640.
Analysis: He was playing solid hockey before ending up in a sling. Despite the injury, he'll still be in the hunt for a spot on the bottom D pairing. It's unlikely that he'll see much power-play time, though. And that limits any value he has.

Lebda, Meech battling for job

News: The Sports Xchange reports Red Wings D Brett Lebda was a healthy scratch on Wednesday against the Wild, replaced by Derek Meech. With Niklas Kronwall back from injury, the Red Wings might rotate Lebda and Meech as their sixth defenseman until one seizes the job.
Analysis: Brad Stuart is battling a minor shoulder injury sustained Wednesday, so Meech and Lebda might dress until he returns. But it is only a short-term ailment, so the battle will wage on. Neither Meech or Lebda do a lot on the offensive end and have minimal Fantasy appeal.

Detroit will lean on young defensemen

News: The banged-up Detroit Red Wings have lost defenseman Niklas Kronwall for at least a month with a sprained ligament in his left knee. The team announced Sunday that Kronwall will be out four to eight weeks. Kronwall had a leg-on-leg, open-ice collision with Montreal enforcer Georges Laraque on Saturday. Laraque, who was called for tripping, said it was an accident. The Red Wings called it a dirty play. The Sports Xchange reports the Wings will not recall a defenseman from Grand Rapids (AHL). Derek Meech will be inserted into the lineup for Monday's game in Nashville. The team's younger defensemen -- Jonathan Ericsson, Brett Lebda and Meech -- will play more minutes and assume a greater role on the power play and penalty-killing units.
Analysis: The only really interesting name on the above list is Ericsson. The Red Wings have Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski, so it's not like Lebda and Meech will assume all of Kronwall's offensive responsibilities. But Ericsson has shown he can be effective at both ends of the ice, like Kronwall, so he might benefit the most. Consider adding him in larger Fantasy formats. Lebda and Meech still have minimal appeal.

Lebda not injured, just benched

News: The Detroit News reports that Red Wings D Brett Lebda did not leave Saturday's game against the Blues because of a shoulder injury. Rather, he was pulled because of his poor play. Lebda has been replaced in the starting lineup by Derek Meech, who is now paired with Jonathan Ericsson.
Analysis: Lebda has frustrated coach Mike Babcock with his inconsistent play and it just hasn't been this season. It could be awhile before Lebda is out of the doghouse. He had little Fantasy appeal to begin with, so continue to keep him out of active lineups.

Lebda injures shoulder in Sweden

News: The Sports Xchange reports that Red Wings D Brett Lebda missed the third period of Saturday's loss to the Blues in Sweden with an apparent left shoulder injury after being checked into the boards by Keith Tkachuk late in the second. Lebda struggled the first two games and is danger of losing his job as the No. 6 defenseman to Derek Meech.
Analysis: Lebda is just a low-end blue-liner with the Wings and barely has any Fantasy value when healthy. Continue to ignore him.

Lebda takes penalty in return

News: Red Wings D Brett Lebda returned to the lineup Tuesday against the Blues after missing eight games with a back injury. He didn't record a point in 15:25 of ice time and took a four-minute high-sticking call.
Analysis: Lebda is finally back after missing the last few weeks, but Detroit hardly missed his presence. He is mostly a third-pairing defenseman when healthy and has little to no Fantasy appeal.

Lebda scratched again Saturday

News: Red Wings D Brett Lebda (back) did not return to the lineup Saturday against the Predators. He has missed the last eight games and remains questionable for Tuesday against the Blues.
Analysis: Lebda might be ready for action, but Detroit has played so well without him, they likely don't want to mess up the flow. Lebda will get back into action eventually, but he has low-end Fantasy appeal as he is just ample depth for Detroit.

Lebda held out a seventh game

News: Red Wings D Brett Lebda (back) did not return to the lineup Friday against the Kings. He has missed the last seven games and remains questionable for Saturday against the Predators.
Analysis: Lebda might be ready for action, but Detroit has played so well without him, they likely don't want to mess up the flow. Lebda will get back into action eventually, but he has low-end Fantasy appeal as he is just ample depth for Detroit.
