Week 25 Fantasy Stockwatch

Each week during the season, we'll survey the Fantasy Hockey landscape and provide you with a list of players whose Fantasy value has increased or decreased over the course of the past week.

Johan Franzen, LW, Detroit
It has been rock 'n roll for the 28-year-old Swedish international, and he's doing it playing on the second line. Franzen has been all but unstoppable for the Red Wings with points in all seven games in March -- eight goals and three assists. This explosion comes after Franzen had no goals and just one assist in the last seven games in February. Now that's what Fantasy owners call a major turnaround.
Alexander Radulov, RW, Nashville
It's a little hard to explain what happened to the 22-year-old winger who was rolling last month. Radulov has disappointed from a Fantasy perspective lately as is without a goal in nine March games and without a marker dating to Feb. 21. The limited thing he has to show for this month is four assists, but frankly, that does not cut it for either the Predators or Fantasy leagues.
Daniel Briere, C, Philadelphia
As the Flyers are trying to hold onto that eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Briere is among those who are providing the effort down the stretch. He has points in all but one of the nine games this month, tallying four goals and four assists. Briere needs four more goals to reach the 30-goal plateau and three assists to get to the 40-assitst mark.
Daniel Sedin, LW, Vancouver
The struggling Sedin twins were split up, an experiment that didn't work out. They were put back together and Daniel set up his brother Henrik for two goals in the 3-1 win over Phoenix on March 17, the first points for both in five games. Daniel is without a goal in 13 games now. He's been stuck on 26 since Feb. 19.
Brad Boyes, C, St. Louis
He continues to deliver the numbers while the Blues pretty much just keep losing (lost seven of nine). Boyes has six goals and eight points in the last six games. He needs just two more tallies to make it to 40 goals, which he should reach with nine games to play. Clearly he is the goal scorer St. Louis expected he was going to be and the same goes for Fantasy owners alike.
Chris Drury, C, N.Y. Rangers
His March is nowhere near what his February was and therefore Drury makes the list of players with his stock down this week. Drury has only one goal and two assists in eight games compared to six goals and three assists after as many games in February.
Jarome Iginla, RW, Calgary
The Flames captain is firing in all cylinders. He has five goals and three assists in the last five games. The 45 goals and 42 assists top the stat sheet for his team and he will reach 90 points for the third time in his career. It should be obvious, but Iginla has been one of the better forwards this season for Fantasy purposes.
Peter Forsberg, C, Colorado
The big Swede has been back for eight games but has only played in four, thanks to a groin problem. This was exactly the concern, more or less, for those who considered picking up Forsberg when he signed with the Avalanche. That was the risk in taking him. Sure, the numbers are not everything for his team, but his presence on the ice means a lot. Statistically speaking from a Fantasy point of view, he has disappointed so far with just two assists.
Petr Sykora, C, Pittsburgh
The 32-year-old has definitely improved his contribution with Sidney Crosby and Marian Hossa out with injuries. In the last five games Sykora has tallied four goals and four assists. This was the sort of production the Penguins were looking for, not to mention Fantasy owners. Sykora could finish the season with 65 to 70 points.
Manny Legace, G, St. Louis
It is not all of his doing because the Blues offense does not offer the best support a goalie can get, but Legace's performances have not been good heading toward the end of the season. He has allowed at least three goals in the last six games, five of them losses. In the last 13 games he has just two wins.

Player News
Cal Clutterbuck
Minnesota's Clutterbuck Doubtful Tuesday
Cal Clutterbuck, RW, MIN
10:56 AM
News: Cal Clutterbuck (lower body) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against Anaheim, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Cal Clutterbuck, who should be considered day-to-day beyond Tuesday, is expected to be replaced in the lineup by Kris Foucalt.

Johan Franzen
Lower Body Injury For Detroit's Franzen
Johan Franzen, RW, DET
10:39 AM
News: Johan Franzen (lower body) missed practice Monday but is expected to play Tuesday against Dallas, DetroitRedWings.com reports.
Analysis: It sounds as if Johan Franzen's owners don't have much to worry about, but we'll mention it if that changes.

Riley Holzapfel
Anaheim Trades For Holzapfel
Riley Holzapfel, C, WPG
10:08 AM
News: Winnipeg traded Riley Holzapfel to Anaheim on Monday in exchange for Maxime Macenauer, TSN's James Mirtle reports.
Analysis: Although he was the 43rd overall pick in the 2006 draft, Riley Holzapfel has yet to appear in the NHL. He hasn't been all that productive in the AHL (15 points, eight goals in 29 games this year), so he seems unlikely to make an NHL impact any time soon.

Thomas Greiss
Sharks' Greiss To Start Monday
Thomas Greiss, G, SJ
9:31 AM
News: Thomas Greiss will get the start Monday night as the Sharks face the Capitals, David Pollack of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss has been playing well this season and is maintaining a 1.98 GAA with a .925 save percentage in his backup role for the Sharks.

Michal Neuvirth
Caps Could Stick With Neuvirth Monday
Michal Neuvirth, G, WAS
9:11 AM
News: It appears likely that Michal Neuvirth will get the start against the Sharks on Monday, according to Katie Carrera of the Washington Post.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth got the start on Sunday against the Rangers after Tomas Vokoun fell ill with the flu. While Coach Dale Hunter wouldn't commit to Neuvirth on Monday, it seems logical for the team to give Vokoun some added time to recover, with the team not playing again (after Monday) until Friday.

Mikael Backlund
Flames' Backlund Likely To Miss Time
Mikael Backlund, C, CGY
9:06 AM
News: TSN's Bob McKenzie speculates that Mikael Backlund, who had his arm in a sling Sunday, will be out at least a month.
Analysis: We'll await further info Monday, but it looks like the team's forward depth is about to take a hit. Mikael Backlund has 11 points and a minus-13 rating in 41 games to date though, numbers which reflect his marginal fantasy utility.

Jonas Gustavsson
Gustavsson Likely Tuesday Starter
Jonas Gustavsson, G, TOR
8:40 AM
News: Jonas Gustavsson is likely to start Tuesday's game against the Flames, according to James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail.
Analysis: Jonas Gustavsson relieved starter James Reimer to start the third period Saturday against Montreal and it looks like the Leafs will roll with him Tuesday, which would mark his first start since Feb 7.

Simon Despres
Despres Activated And Sent To AHL
Simon Despres, D, PIT
8:19 AM
News: The Penguins have activated Simon Despres (knee) from IR and re-assigned him to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Penguins.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Simon Despres, who has been sidelined since Jan. 10, has played in 14 NHL games this season, recording four points. Once he's back up to speed, he figures to be back with the big club at some point down the road.

Andrew Bodnarchuk
Bruins Recall Bodnarchuk
Andrew Bodnarchuk, D, BOS
8:13 AM
News: The Bruins have recalled Andrew Bodnarchuk from AHL Providence, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Andrew Bodnarchuk, who went scoreless in five NHL games in 2009-100, has 11 points in 47 games for Providence this season. He has some puck-moving ability, but he slots in as the B's No. 7 defenseman at the moment, so his fantasy upside is minimal.

Carey Price
Streaking Price Gets Monday Start
Carey Price, G, MON
8:07 AM
News: Carey Price will start Monday's game against the Hurricanes, Renaud Lavoie of RDS.ca reports.
Analysis: Carey Price, who has won four straight, including a 5-0 blanking of the Leafs on Friday, will get a crack Monday at a Carolina team that has lost two straight contests.
