PLAYER NOTES

--C Henrik Sedin was widely criticized for his lack of production during the second round against Nashville, in part because he refused to blame his lack of scoring on an injury that appeared obvious to everyone watching. But after some rest he will only say was needed without saying why, Henrik dominated the Western Conference final with 12 points, matching a franchise record set by Pavel Bure in a seven-game series in 1995. He finished with on goal and 11 assists against San Jose and leads the NHL in playoff scoring with 21 points after getting two assists in the Game 5 win.

--G Roberto Luongo, who was questioned after a so-so Game 3 loss, made 33 saves for a 4-2 win in San Jose in Game 4, his first victory in the Shark Tank since 2007, and 54 saves in a double-overtime win in Game 5 on Wednesday to secure his first trip to the Cup Final. Widely critiqued despite being a Vezina Trophy finalist this season, Luongo leads the NHL with 12 playoff wins this season but isn't satisfied yet. "Hopefully there's a few more (defining moments) to come in the next couple weeks," he said. "I said to my family before the series started, this is what I've been waiting for my whole life. I'm just going to go out there and play and enjoy it."

--C Ryan Kesler gave Canucks fans a scare when he limped gingerly to the locker room favoring his left leg after pulling up chasing down a shorthanded scoring chance midway through the second period. But he was back later in the period and had no trouble celebrating after scoring the tying goal with 13.2 seconds left to force overtime. "I jumped three feet when it went in," said Kesler, who is second in playoff scoring with 19 points. "It didn't hurt. The doctors took care of me and got me back out there quick. They did a good job, and it felt good to get that one."

--D Dan Hamhuis went 14 games between penalties before picking up a questionable hooking call during Game 4 in San Jose. Hamhuis's last penalty was in Game 2 against Chicago in the first round, a remarkable run for a defender charged with shutting down the opponent's top forwards night in and night out during the playoffs. His steady play has freed up partner Kevin Bieksa to look for offensive opportunities, leading to four goals, eight points (almost all at even strength) and a plus-7 rating.

--D Chris Tanev, a 21-year-old rookie just two years removed from tier-2 junior hockey in Ontario, played a second straight game Tuesday ahead of Andrew Alberts, who spent half the season as the No. 6 defender, after Aaron Rome was hurt in Game 3. But Tanev, a highly recruited free agent after one season of college hockey, is more comfortable on the right side as a right shot. He also continues to show poise beyond his age and experience, which has something to do with his comfort level beside Keith Ballard, a mentor who was also in both games in place of Christian Ehrhoff (shoulder). "When Chris was called on to play this year he played real well," coach Alain Vigneault said. "Keith played his best hockey with Chris. That's why I made that decision."

--RW Victor Oreskovich returned to the lineup on the fourth line, with Cody Hodgson sliding back over the middle in place of Alex Bolduc, who was back in the press box after one playoff game. Tanner Glass remained on the left side despite taking two early penalties in Game 4 in San Jose on Sunday.

MEDICAL WATCH

--C Manny Malhotra was cleared for "light contact" at practice and shockingly, given the severity of his left eye injury, there was talk that he might be able to play in the Stanley Cup Final. Malhotra needs one more surgery on the eye, but it could wait until after the series is over.

--D Christian Ehrhoff left Game 3 on Friday with an apparent shoulder injury and did not play Game 4 or 5, but he practiced on Monday, is officially listed as day-to-day and could be back sooner than first expected.

--D Aaron Rome was knocked out of Game 3 Friday after a hit from behind left him dazed and is expected to be out at least seven to 10 days.

--LW Mikael Samuelsson had surgery for a sport hernia and torn abductor tendon after getting hurt in the second round of the playoffs and is out for the season.
