Despite losing Chris Nickson to graduation, the Commodores still have a quarterback controversy on their hands. Fifth-year senior Mackenzi Adams was thought to inherit the job after Nickson departed based on experience, but Smith came on late as a freshman in 2008 and now head coach Bobby Johnson has a tough decision to make. Adams led Vanderbilt with 882 passing yards last season, but he also had five touchdowns to eight interceptions. He is a dual-threat quarterback, but his accuracy is awful. Smith, on the other hand, might be inexperienced, but made his first start in the team's bowl win over Boston College last season and showed great pocket presence. No one has shown so much savvy early at Vanderbilt since Jay Cutler. While it seems Smith has more potential, neither Vanderbilt quarterback is an attractive Fantasy option since this battle will last into fall practice and possibly into the season. (Updated 6/15/09)
