Jimmy Clausen is one of the most recognizable names in college football as he quarterbacks one of the most renowned programs. Clausen came back with a vengeance in 2008 after having a very bumpy true freshman season and showed why he was widely considered the nation's top recruit in 2007. Clausen's confidence only grew as the season went on as Notre Dame started stretching the field. He capped his sophomore season with a career-high 401 passing yards and five touchdowns in a 49-21 bowl rout of Hawaii. The Californian enters his junior season coming off the third-most productive passing season in school history and most prolific year by a sophomore signal caller. He completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 3,172 yards and 25 touchdowns in '08. He became just the second Irish quarterback to surpass 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns, as Brady Quinn did it in 2005 and 2006. Still, Clausen's decision-making was questionable at times (18 interceptions). Head coach Charlie Weis says he has made improvements in that area in the offseason. Notre Dame returns nine other offensive starters, including four offensive linemen and top targets Golden Tate and Michael Floyd. Clausen should continue to improve in 2009 and might end up being a reliable Fantasy starting quarterback by season's end.
