The Fighting Illini didn't replace running back Rashard Mendenhall with just one primary option in 2008, rather using more of a four-back committee. Daniel Dufrene, who was Mendenhall's primary backup in 2007, took the lead in the Illinois backfield and finished second behind quarterback Juice Williams with 663 rushing yards. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry but recorded no touchdowns. When the Illini got into the red zone, they turned to Jason Ford to punch the ball in. However, Dufrene also proved to be a top pass-catching option out of the backfield. He finished second with 30 catches, totaling 271 yards and two touchdowns. Dufrene, the former Vanderbilt and junior college transfer, should pace the running game again in 2009 but still has low-end Fantasy appeal. (Updated 6/10/09)
