You aren't going to find many college football teams use a fifth-string quarterback and rank among the best offenses in the country, but that's exactly how Oregon's 2008 season played out with Jeremiah Masoli. Oregon thought Nate Costa would finally be under center after an injury-plagued career, but he messed up his knee again and was out for the season. Justin Roper then became the starter before getting knocked out by injury. Darron Thomas and Chris Harper both had their turns, but when Masoli was plugged into the offense and proved to be a capable dual-threat quarterback, Oregon didn't look back. Masoli became a 10-game starter for the Ducks. He did sustain a concussion early in the season but shook it off to become OU's most outstanding newcomer. He set a new school rushing record for a quarterback with 718 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also threw for 1,744 yards and 13 touchdowns. Chip Kelly is taking over as head coach for Oregon, but he is quite familiar with Masoli since Kelly was only promoted from offensive coordinator. Roper is nipping at his heels just in case he suffers a mental lapse, but Masoli is still a nice grab as a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback that could mature into a must-start option.
