Bobby Petrino's first year at Arkansas didn't go as planned as the Razorbacks finished under .500 (5-7). Petrino, who is known to air it out, was able to produce the nation's 23rd best passing offense (259.6 ypg), but a large reason for the high ranking was Arkansas need to pass trailing most of the time. His top quarterback, Casey Dick, had more interceptions (14) than touchdowns (13). Dick wasn't a SEC caliber quarterback, but in Year 2, Petrino might finally have his guy in Ryan Mallett, a transfer from Michigan. Petrino has hinted at an open competition at quarterback with Tyler Wilson and Jim Youngblood, but it would be very shocking if Mallett wasn't under center in 2009. He is a physical presence at 6-foot-6, 255 pounds. He has a rocket arm and should fit nicely into Petrino's high-powered offense. Mallett played some as a freshman in 2007 for Michigan when Chad Henne was injured. Mallett threw for two touchdowns and 233 yards in the spring game and should be ready to take charge in the fall. Arkansas has a ton of experience at wide receiver, so the transition might be seamless. Mallett is a Fantasy sleeper for deeper formats. (Updated 6/15/09)
