David Johnson and his 4,059 passing yards and 49 touchdowns (46 passing) are gone. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who led one of the nation's most potent offensive attacks the last two seasons, is at Auburn. Still, head coach Todd Graham and offensive coordinator Herb Hand are hopeful the offensive momentum will continue in 2009 as the same spread offense principles are in place. First, they need to find Johnson's replacement at quarterback. The choices are Jacob Bower, GJ Kinne and Shavodrick Beaver. Bower, a BYU transfer, has the most experience in Tulsa's system as he was Johnson's backup in 2008. He completed 11-of-15 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 106 yards and one score. Kinne, who is a Texas transfer, was a two-time Class 3A Player of the Year at Gilmer (Texas) High. Beaver, who de-committed from Michigan and is a four-star prospect from the '09 recruiting class, enrolled early and went through spring drills. He is an emerging dual-threat quarterback and could one day lead the TU offense. Bower is likely considered the frontrunner in this race, but Beaver is considered a strong dark horse candidate. Whoever starts at quarterback will be a must-own Fantasy option since Tulsa should have an explosive offense.
