MLB hit leader Emilio Bonifacio gets day off Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/12/14) Cubs infielder Emilio Bonifacio is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

The major-league leader in hits and stolen bases, Bonifaco has yet to get a day off while hitting .435/.480/.500 with nine runs scored and seven stolen bases in 46 at-bats. He's just 1 for 8 over his last two games, however. A Swiss Army knife defensively, Bonifacio already has six appearances at second base, six in center field, two at third base and one at shortstop for the Cubs.

Emilio Bonifacio still scorching for Cubs
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4/10/14) Those anticipating a slide from Cubs outfielder Emilio Bonifacio are still waiting. What is perceived as an inevitable slump has still not happened.

Bonifacio has eight hits in his last 19 at-bats, which actually lowered his average to a National League-leading .500. It's no wonder he has been placed in the leadoff spot, where he has thrived. Bonifacio has scored eight runs in the last seven games and is tied for the major league lead with five stolen bases.

The 28-year-old Bonifacio has batted over .261 just once in a seven-year career in which he has served mostly as a reserve.

Emilio Bonifacio stays hot with five hits Wednesday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/3/14) Cubs infielder Emilio Bonifacio followed up a 4-for-5 season debut by going 5 for 7 with one walk, one run and two steals while batting leadoff in his team's 4-3, 16-inning loss to the Pirates Wednesday.

Bonifacio has been scorching hot over his first two games, and as a result, he could go hitless in his next 18 at-bats and still own a .300 average. He's making a strong case for receiving regular playing time moving forward.

Emilio Bonifacio tabbed as Cubs leadoff hitter
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(3/31/14) The Cubs will go with Emilio Bonifacio as their leadoff hitter Monday.

Bonifacio will get the start out in center field, which allows both Starlin Castro and Darwin Barney to get into the lineup. Bonifacio joined the club in February, and is expected to play a big role with the team this year.

Cubs manager could play matchups at second base
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/25/14) Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Darwin Barney remains the team's starting second baseman, but his playing time might be reduced as Renteria looks for favorable matchups at times. Luis Valbuena and Emilio Bonifacio are both options to see playing time at second base.

"I think as we go into the season, we have certain guys who we’re going to put into a particular position and the second day you might see a different lineup," Renteria said, per The Chicago Tribune. "The reality is the matchups we have and are looking at throughout the course of the season will determine how we use all our guys.

"I’m fortunate enough to have the flexibility with guys and matchups and different scenarios that could occur during the course of a season. I have the ability to do that with them. I want to put them in the best position to have success."
