Dodgers ace Kershaw penciled in to start fifth straight opening day
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/2/15) In a move that is of little surprise, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced Monday he is planning to start ace Clayton Kershaw on opening day (April 6) against the Padres.
Kershaw is on track to start his fifth straight opening day, which would mean Don Sutton would be the only other pitcher in franchise history with more consecutive opening day starts. Sutton started seven straight times from 1972-78.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw to make spring training debut Thursday
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(2/28/15) Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will make his spring training debut Thursday against the White Sox, manager Don Mattingly said Saturday.
Kershaw went 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA in 2014 with 239 strikeouts in 198 1/3 innings pitched, leading the National League MVP and Cy Young awards.
Clayton Kershaw takes loss, Dodgers eliminated from playoffs
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10/7/14) Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw was hung with a series-ending loss Tuesday, giving up three earned runs on four hits and two walks in six-plus innings while striking out nine in his team's 3-2 Game 4 defeat against the Cardinals, sending the Dodgers home with a 3-1 loss in the NLDS.
Kershaw (0-2) pitched six excellent innings and brought a 2-0 lead into the seventh. However, the Cardinals collected two quick singles before Matt Adams launched the Los Angeles starter's 102nd pitch over the right-field fence. It was a bittersweet end to a Cy Young-caliber season for Kershaw.
Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke to start final two games of NLDS for Dodgers
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(10/6/14) The Dodgers have announced their starters for the final two games of the National League Division Series against the Cardinals, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The team will roll with Clayton Kershaw on short rest for Game 4 on Thursday. He has a 0.96 ERA in three career postseason starts on 3-4 days rest. Zack Greinke, who was penciled in for Game 4, will instead start Game 5, if needed.
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw knocked around Friday
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(10/3/14) Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw had an uncharacteristic night Friday against the Cardinals.
Kershaw allowed eight runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out 10 and did not issue any walks. Kershaw allowed one run early, giving up a solo home run in the first inning. He settled in over the next four innings before giving up another run in the sixth. Things then fell apart in the seventh.
Kershaw loaded the bases on three singles to open the frame. After a single brought a run home, Kershaw allowed a bases-clearing double to Matt Carpenter. Kershaw would leave the game at that point. One more run woud be charged to Kershaw after he left the game. Kershaw was saddled with the loss following the outing.
|2014 summary: No April, no problem. Clayton Kershaw missed the entire month of April with a back injury, but still he was the top pitcher in Rotisserie value, ranked third in Fantasy points, and won his third Cy Young Award and first Most Valuable Player Award. Improving on his previous Cy Young campaigns, Kershaw posted career bests in K/9 ratio (10.8), BB/9 ratio (1.4), ground ball rate (53 percent), ERA (1.77) and WHIP (0.86). The lefty's 21-3 record endeared him to Fantasy owners as well.|
Playing time status: Last season marked the first time in five years that Kershaw failed to pitch 200 innings for the Dodgers, and he just missed by just 1 2/3 innings. He can be counted on to rack up innings again this season.
2015 outlook: Even in leagues where owners are reticent to draft pitchers in the first round, Kershaw is practically a lock to be taken with one of the top picks. He certainly should be the first pitcher off the board in any Fantasy format.
