by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Madison Bumgarner throws second career shutout
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(8/3/14) Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner breezed to his 13th victory during a 9-0 win Sunday against the Mets. The left-hander needed just 94 pitches (75 strikes) to record his second career shutout.

Bumgarner (13-8) issued a walk to the first batter he faced in the bottom of the first inning, but it would be one of very few mistakes he made on the day. Following the walk, Bumgarner retired the next five batters he faced before Wilmer Flores led off the third inning with a double. Following Flores' double, Bumgarner would retire 13 straight batters before David Wright's one-out single in the seventh.

Wright would be the last batter to get a hit off Bumgarner, who struck out 10 batters. He allowed just the two hits and one walk, while lowering his ERA to 3.21. He's won four of his last five starts and has allowed one or no earned runs in three of those starts.

Bumgarner is expected to make his next start Friday at Kansas City.
