Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Outduels Noah Syndergaard Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(5/1/16) Bumgarner (3-2) allowed no runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win Sunday at the Mets.

Bumgarner received plenty of offensive support and easily won his showdown with Noah Syndergaard. After some early-season struggles, he's now allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last three starts to lower his ERA to 3.03. He'll make his next start Friday against the Rockies.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Strikes out nine Padres in win Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(4/26/16) Bumgarner (2-2) beat the Padres on Monday, striking out nine over 6.2 innings while allowing two runs on six hits and two walks.

Bumgarner's win was in jeopardy when reliever Hunter Strickland made a mess of the eighth inning, but closer Santiago Casilla came in for a four-out save to secure MadBum's second victory of 2016. The 2014 World Series MVP already has 38 strikeouts in 29.2 innings pitched, though his 3.64 ERA and 3.84 FIP are a bit inflated compared to his lofty standards. Bumgarner will look to continue lowering those numbers when he next takes the mound for a road tilt with the Mets on Sunday.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Suffers loss despite strong outing

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(4/21/16) Bumgarner (1-2) struck out eight while allowing only two runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings Wednesday against Arizona, but was stuck with the loss.

Zack Greinke narrowly outdueled him on the other end, leaving Bumgarner unrewarded in what was arguably his best start so far this year. A couple uncharacteristically short outings have his ratios looking pedestrian -- a 3.91 ERA and 1.39 WHIP -- but having finished the past three seasons with an ERA under 3.00 and a WHIP of 1.09 or better, he's a good bet to polish those ratios up and again turn out some of the best mound results in all of baseball.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Rough outing in LA

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(4/16/16) Bumgarner took his first loss of the season, allowing seven runs, four earned, on eight hits, including two home runs over five frames against the Dodgers on Friday. He also struck out seven and walked one.

This is the second time in a week Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw squared off, and the latter clearly pitched better Friday. This also marked the second time in three starts that Bumgarner has allowed a pair of home runs. On Opening Day, he was battling the flu against Milwaukee, but by all indications, Bumgarner was healthy Friday night. Going back to last season, he has yielded seven bombs in his last 21.2 innings. Opposing hitters have recorded 21 homers against Bumgarner in each of the last two seasons.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Bounces back after shaky opener

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(4/10/16) Bumgarner bounced back from his rocky Opening Day start by throwing six innings of one-run ball while striking out eight in an extra-inning loss to the Dodgers on Saturday.

Bumgarner faced off against Clayton Kershaw in a battle of the National League's best lefties. The former was actually in line for a win before closer Santiago Casilla blew the save in the ninth. Aside from not getting the win, Bumgarner looked excellent Saturday after battling the flu in his season debut Monday and even smashed a home run against his counterpart. Assuming weather and health permit, we will see a rematch of this premier pitching matchup Friday.
