Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Takes tough loss to Reds

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/27/16) Bumgarner (10-6) suffered a tough loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over eight frames against the Reds. He also struck out nine and walked none.

It's the second time since June 20 that Bumgarner lost a game where he only allowed one earned run. Unfortunately, he hasn't won since the All-Star break, but his other numbers aren't terrible. Bumgarner has a 3.00 ERA with 24 strikeouts in his last 21 innings over three starts. His next outing will be Tuesday versus the Phillies.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Overcomes early struggles to earn quality start Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/23/16) Bumgarner held the Yankees to two runs over seven innings while walking three and striking out six Sunday. He did not factor into the eventual 3-2 loss.

Most fantasy owners would be pleased with the final line score Bumgarner provided Friday, but it did not come easy for the dominant lefty. He allowed seven baserunners over the first two innings and saw his pitch count elevate to a level that pointed towards a short outing. Bumgarner - as he usually does - bounced back in the face of adversity and shut the Yankees down over the next five innings, keeping his offense within striking distance. Things get easier for him next time out when the Giants take on the Reds on Wednesday.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Suffers rare loss to Padres

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/16/16) Bumgarner suffered the loss Friday at San Diego, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out nine.

Bumgarner avoided getting himself in serious trouble, but he was touched up for a run in four different innings, primarily via the extra-base hit. Bumgarner entered Friday's start on the back of a 15-inning scoreless streak and still owns an impressive ERA of just 2.12, so he should be expected to bounce back in his next start Friday at Yankee Stadium.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Delivers one-hit, 14-strikeout gem in Sunday victory

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/11/16) Bumgarner mowed down 14 D-backs in a complete-game, one-hit shutout on Sunday in a 4-0 victory. He also walked a batter.

The dominant lefty mystified and overpowered the D-backs all night long, retiring 25 of the 28 batters he faced on the way to his third complete game of the season. The 14 strikeouts matched his career high, and he recorded two whiffs apiece on six of Arizona's nine hitters, including Paul Goldschmidt. The Giants ace took a no-hitter into the eighth inning for the third time in his career, but like the prior two occasions, was unable sustain it. Jake Lamb, who'd also reached earlier in the game on an error by outfielder Gregor Blanco, broke up the no-no with a one-out single, but Bumgarner was otherwise impossible to break through against. He'll head to the All-Star game with a sparkling 1.94 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 146:32 K:BB over 129.2 innings.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Takes no-decision despite six shutout innings

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/6/16) Bumgarner allowed just four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six shutout innings but took a no-decision Tuesday against the Rockies.

Bumgarner has allowed just 12 runs over his past eight starts with a 61:13 K:BB, and this marks the fifth time in that stretch he has thrown at least six innings and allowed one run or fewer. But Bumgarner has notched just three wins despite this amazing run, as he has been stuck with a pair of losses and now three no-decisions. There's not much else to say to a run like this but "hang with 'em."
