Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Beats Atlanta with quality start Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8:10 am ET) Bumgarner allowed three runs with five strikeouts and two walks across seven innings Sunday versus Atlanta, earning his 13th win of the season.

Bumgarner cruised after allowing a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but a two-run homer by Freddie Freeman in the sixth compromised his overall stat line a bit. On a positive note, the left-hander surpassed five innings pitched after lasting just five frames in each of his last two outings, and his ERA sits at an impressive 2.49 for the season. Bumgarner is firmly in the National League Cy Young race, along with fellow frontrunners Max Scherzer and Jose Fernandez, and although he ranks third among the trio in strikeouts, he leads in ERA and innings pitched. He will look to further make his case Saturday against the Cubs.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Takes eighth loss against Dodgers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/24/16) Bumgarner (12-8) allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over five innings in a loss Tuesday to the Dodgers.

Bumgarner has been off his game in his past two starts, as he has served up nine earned runs on 15 hits over 10 combined innings. He's still racking up the strikeouts with 13, but he has been bitten by a pair of home runs. Bumgarner has now allowed 20 in 27 starts, and he has a HR/9 above 1.0 for the first time since 2012. He still has a 2.44 ERA, but that's going to keep going up if he can't find a way to keep the ball in the yard.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Ineffective against Mets, but wins anyway

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/19/16) Bumgarner improved to 12-7 despite allowing four runs over five innings against the Mets on Thursday. He gave up six hits and three walks wile striking out six.

To be fair, all the damage came on a grand slam by Justin Ruggiano in the fourth inning, and he responded with a two-run homer of his own. However, Bumgarner was pulled after five frames with his pitch count at 89 -- a move that actually ended up letting the Mets get back in the game after the Giants had just started pulling away. The star lefty has given up four earned runs on four separate occasions over his last 10 starts, but only four total runs in the other six outings in that span -- as a result, his ERA has only risen by 0.05 during that time and is still a career-best 2.25.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Magnificent in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/14/16) Bumgarner (11-7) surrendered just three hits and three walks while striking out eight over seven shutout innings, and was the winning pitcher in Saturday night's 6-2 victory over the Orioles.

Aside from running into some trouble with one out in the sixth, an inning he would ultimately, and masterfully, escape, the lefty was dominate once again, throwing 101 pitches en route to his first win since July 10. The fact the game didn't end in a shutout doesn't take away the brilliance of Bumgarner, as he now has a 2.11 ERA and 189 strikeouts in 170.2 innings pitched this season. He's scheduled to next take the mound Thursday at home against the Mets.

Giants' Madison Bumgarner: Continues to receive no run support Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/7/16) Bumgarner (10-7) tossed a gem Sunday, surrendering just one run on two hits while striking out seven over eight innings, but he was saddled with his seventh loss of the season after falling to the Nationals 1-0.

Bumgarner was absolutely dealing against one of the National League's premier lineups, but his lone mistake -- a solo homer to Wilson Ramos -- ended up being the difference in the contest. The loss brings his post-All-Star break record to 0-3 despite having three starts of at least seven innings while giving up one or fewer runs. Despite the lack of wins, Bumgarner is still on pace for career-best marks in both ERA (2.20) and K/9 (9.95). He draws a tough matchup against Baltimore at home Saturday, but he has been virtually matchup proof all season.
