|Brewers resting three power hitters Wednesday |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(6/25/14) The Brewers have submitted a skeleton lineup for the Wednesday game against Washington. Three of their premier hitters are out.
Included are left fielder Ryan Braun, third baseman Aramis Ramirez and Jonathan Lucroy. Their absences take away 28 home runs and 117 RBI out of the Milwaukee lineup.
None of the three are listed with injuries, so all are simply getting breaks on the same afternoon after the team played a 16-inning game Tuesday night.

(6/18/14) Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 3 for 5 with two home runs and five RBI in his team's 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks Tuesday.
Lucroy's solo home run in the sixth inning cut his team's deficit to 4-2, but he saved his big shot for the next inning, when he smashed a grand slam to give his team the lead for good. It's the next act in what's been a fantastic June, as Lucroy is 25 for 63 with six home runs and 15 RBI this month. He has hit .340/.401/.537 with eight home runs and 37 RBI in 259 at-bats.

(6/8/14) Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a stolen base, and scored the game's only run in Milwaukee's victory over the Pirates on Sunday. Lucroy upped his average to .335/.398/.500 in 224 at-bats.
|Not so surprisingly, Carlos Santana ranked No. 1 among catchers in standard Head-to-Head leagues last year. But No. 2 wasn't Buster Posey, Joe Mauer, Yadier Molina, Brian McCann or any of the other usual suspects. It was Jonathan Lucroy, who validated his breakthrough 2012 with a 2013 that was nearly as good. Yes, his batting average dropped 40 points to a still-respectable .280, but a slow start is largely to blame. From May 21 to the end of the season, he hit .303. He also homered at about the same rate he did in 2012. Obviously, his totals were better since he didn't miss two months with a broken hand this time around, but nothing stood out as an outlier. By the end of the year, his bat had become so indispensable to the Brewers that he got to play first base on his "off" days, a la Buster Posey. That won't necessarily continue with his supporting cast back at full strength coming out of spring training, but clearly, a second straight year of high-end production has earned Lucroy a higher level of trust within the organization. It should on Draft Day as well. While the skepticism was warranted a year ago, Lucroy is clearly a top-five catcher heading into 2014.
