Giants C Buster Posey dealing with mild scapula injury

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/25/15) Giants catcher Buster Posey came out of Wednesday's game a little early due to a mild scapula injury, but manager Bruce Bochy said Posey will be back in the lineup Thursday and playing first base, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Posey has been having a bit of a slow spring, but he went 1 for 2 and drew a walk Wednesday. He is 6 for 26 with five walks in 12 spring games.

Giants C Andrew Susac (wrist) returns to action

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(3/22/15) Catcher Andrew Susac entered Sunday's spring game in relief of Buster Posey, Susac's first action with the Giants since receiving a cortisone shot in his wrist on March 16.

Susac immediately made his presence felt by throwing out Angels OF Mike Trout. Susac is in a battle with Hector Sanchez for the Giants' backup catcher job.

Entering Sunday, Susac was hitting .100 in seven spring games.

No discomfort for Giants' Matt Cain in bullpen session

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(2/20/15) Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain, recovering from surgeries on his elbow and ankle, passed his first bullpen test on Friday.

Cain had surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow in August. While recovering from that procedure, he had surgery on his ankle the following month.

Buster Posey caught Cain's bullpen session on Friday and told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle that he could see a difference from last season. Cain grimaced after throwing pitches last season, but he looked "effortless" on Friday.

"He's obviously not fighting around the bone spurs," Posey told Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area. Posey added that Cain threw a variety of pitches, including fastballs, changeups and curves.

Cain told Pavlovic that the session felt great. "I felt pretty much full speed," he said.

Giants C Buster Posey to hit the weights harder this spring

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/14/15) Giants catcher Buster Posey took a little extra time off this winter, and plans to hit the weights harder this spring to get ready for the 2015 season, Comcast SportsNet reports.

"I really tried to take an extra two weeks more than I had after the '10 and '12 World Series, just to mentally and physically try to recoup as much as possible," Posey said. "And I'm gonna take two weeks into spring training to hit the weights a little bit harder than I have in the past, and hopefully that pays off for me throughout the season."

Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans said in January that the team expects Posey to catch 120 games but added he thinks "there's room for some above that."

"I wouldn't expect anything below that," Evans said. "Part of the challenge for us is we do want to keep Buster healthy, but we also know he's a difference-maker behind the plate in the way he calls a game, in the way he handles our pitching staff."

Posey played 111 games at catcher in 2014, starting 109 times. He saw slightly more games and games started at the positions both in 2012 and 2013. The 2012 NL MVP finished sixth in the MVP voting last season after hitting .311/.364/.490 with 22 home runs and 89 RBI in 547 at-bats.

Belt, Posey, Pence to hit 3-4-5 in Giants' expected lineup

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/6/15) Giants manager Bruce Bochy outlined the plans he has for the batting order in 2015, per the San Francisco Chronicle.

He expects Angel Pagan to hit leadoff. He will be followed by Joe Panik, Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Casey McGehee, Norichika Aoki and Brandon Crawford. The pitcher will hit ninth.
