Marlins' Andrew Cashner: Loses quality start against defending champs

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/23/16) Cashner (4-10) pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four Royals in Tuesday's loss.

Despite notching his first quality start since debuting with the Marlins back on July 31, the effort still wasn't enough to earn Cashner his first win since joining the team. The good news is that the 29-year-old righty seems to be settling into his new digs over his last couple outings. Cashner's given up just two runs on nine hits while notching five K's in his last 11 innings. In addition, Tuesday's marked his season-best fourth straight game without allowing a home run. Cashner will look to get his first win as a member of the Fish when he takes on his old club, San Diego, in his next start Sunday.

Marlins' Andrew Cashner: Remains winless as Marlin after no-decision Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/17/16) Cashner (4-9) pitched five innings, allowing one run, five hits and four walks while striking out one in Wednesday's no-decision against the Reds.

Cashner turned a one-run lead over to the bullpen that was squandered in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the right-hander winless since July 15 when he was with the Padres. Since being acquired by the Marlins in late July, Cashner is 0-2 with a 5.57 ERA and one quality outing in four starts. The 29-year-old has somewhat surprisingly taken a step back with his new team, one that is much better than the Padres. Cashner will look for that elusive first win as a Marlin when he toes the rubber Tuesday at home against the Royals.

Marlins' Andrew Cashner: Struggles in Saturday loss versus Rockies

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(8/7/16) Cashner was dealt his eighth loss of the season Saturday against the rockies, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits over five innings.

He struck out five and walked just one batter, but Coors Field got the best of the hard-throwing right-hander in his second start for the Marlins. He allowed single runs in the first and second innings before settling down with three straight scoreless frames. Things unraveled in the sixth, however, as Cashner allowed two singles, a double, a triple and a walk before being lifted without recording an out. Cashner will look to right the ship Friday at home against the White Sox.

Marlins' Andrew Cashner: Strong in Marlins debut Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/31/16) Cashner (4-7) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings in his Marlins debut Sunday, striking out two without walking a batter, but came away with a no-decision in a 5-4 win over the Cardinals.

His strong run continued Sunday despite his change in uniform and Cashner now holds a 2.28 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB over his last four starts and 23.2 innings. That run could soon come to a screeching halt however, as he's next set to take the mound Friday in Colorado.

Marlins' Andrew Cashner: Set to start for Marlins on Sunday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to
(7/29/16) Cashner will start Sunday against the Cardinals, Joe Frisaro of reports.

After much speculation, Cashner was finally traded Friday along with Colin Rea and Tayron Guerrero, and Cashner will make his Marlins debut opposite Carlos Martinez in the series finale against St. Louis. While Cashner's overall numbers don't look good, he's posted a 31:8 K:BB in 26.1 July innings, and the Marlins needed some insurance in the rotation with Wei-Yin Chen (elbow) landing on the DL.
