Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner strikes out 10 in losing effort

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/29/15) Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits in seven innings of work in San Diego's 7-2 loss to the Astros Wednesday.

Cashner, who struck out a season-high 10, didn't run into problems until the third inning when he allowed the first two runners to reach base safely. With runners on second and third Jose Altuve put a sacrifice fly into left field to bring home a run.

Then in the fourth, Cashner surrendered a two-run shot to Colby Rasmus over the right field wall.

"Good slider today ... he got a lot of punchouts on the slider. One walk, 10 strikeouts is pretty good for a starting pitcher," manager Bud Black said to MLB.com. "Cash was mixing pitches today; fastball, slider, change. Got a number of strikeouts with the change today."

Cashner, now 1-4, boasts a 2.61 ERA on the season. He will look to get back on track Tuesday against the Giants.

(4/25/15) Padres starter Andrew Cashner (1-3) gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings on Friday but suffered the loss against the Dodgers.

Cashner gave up a home run to Carl Crawford, the left fielder's first of the season.

Cashner struck out six and walked one in the defeat.

Cashner's next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Astros.

Padres' Andrew Cashner goes five-strong innings for first victory

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/19/15) Padres starter Andrew Cashner (1-2) allowed two runs, non earned, on five hits in five innings on Sunday to defeat the Cubs for his first win of the season.

Cashner struck out five in the win.

"When they stress our starter early, his pitch count was up, really proud of Cash the way he hung in there and gave us six innings when we needed length from the starter," said Padres manager Bud Black to MLB.com

The Cubs scored both of their unearned runs off Cashner in the first inning.

Cashner will try to even up his record Friday against the Dodgers.

Padres' Cashner happy with progress despite second straight loss

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/14/15) Although Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner lost for the second time in as many starts Monday against the Dodgers, he felt he made progress from his first start, when he allowed three home runs to Adrian Gonzalez.

"I was happy I was able to keep my fastball back down in the zone," Cashner said after allowing four unearned runs in a 8-4 loss Monday, per MLB.com. "I felt that I had some of the best stuff I've had in a long time [on Monday]. I felt I had a good slider, changeup, good fastball command. In the second, I kind of lost my command a little bit.

"Tonight, overall, was better. I was staying tall in my delivery, a lot better getting the ball down. I made a couple mistakes, but overall I thought it was a positive outing."

Cashner had nine strikeouts to one walk Monday after having six strikeouts to three walks in his season debut.

"I thought he mixed pitches better," Padres manager Bud Black said. "I thought that was the plan. He executed that, the number of changeups he threw, much more than he threw last week. The number of sliders he threw, much more than last week."

Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner strikes out nine Monday

His next start will likely be Sunday at the Chicago Cubs.
