Padres' Andrew Cashner gets roughed up by Mets in no-decision

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/30/15) Padres starter--and possible trade candidate--Andrew Cashner had a disaster of an outing against the Mets on Thursday. The right-hander allowed seven runs (five earned) on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three, and was able to escape with a no-decision after the Padres rallied for a late-inning 8-7 victory.

Cashner allowed an early run in the first inning, but cruised through the next three frames without giving up a run. But he gave up a three-run home run to Curtis Granderson in the fifth before allowing three more runs to cross in the sixth, including a solo blast by Juan Uribe.

Cashner, who has been mentioned in trade rumors recently, was making just his second start since the All-Star break. He is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA over his past six starts.

Padres' Andrew Cashner has solid effort against Marlins on Friday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/25/15) Padres starter Andrew Cashner was excellent in his outing against the Marlins on Friday. The right-hander limited the Marlins to one run on five hits over seven solid innings. He walked one and struck out five, throwing 64 of his 105 pitches for strikes in the 3-1 win.

Cashner (4-10) won for the first time since June 27, snapping a three-start winless streak. He was backed by a trio of solo home runs in this one, but his strong outing helped make those three runs stand up.

Cashner had been shaky coming into this latest start. He entered play on Friday with a 4.55 ERA over his previous five outings.

Padres want to move pitchers James Shields, Andrew Cashner

by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer
(7/24/15) The Padres are very much willing to part ways with pitchers James Shields and Andrew Cashner as the trade deadline looms, according to ESPN.com.

San Diego is apparently very active in the trade market and it "really [wants] to move" both Shields and Cashner.

Casner (3-10) has a 4.10 ERA with 97 strikeouts and 34 walks in 109 2/3 innings this season. Shields has an impressive 8-3 records with a 3.77 ERA. He has 144 strikeouts and 47 walks in 126 2/3 innings.

According to a report by the Houston Chronicle, citing sources, the Astros have spoken to the Phillies about Cole Hamels

Padres set rotation for second half

by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(7/12/15) The Padres will turn to pitcher James Shields to open the second half of the season Friday against the Rockies, reports MLB.com. Shields will be followed by Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner, Ian Kennedy and Odrisamer Despaigne.

"It's a new beginning," interim manager Pat Murphy said. "An opportunity to get everybody recuperated and come back… It's a little disruption of their work, their rhythm, but more for Cashner, Kennedy and Despy than Shields."
