Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Loses despite quality start Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/17/17) Cashner (4-8) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks across 6.2 innings in Monday's loss to the Orioles. He struck out three.

Cashner pitched efficiently through the opening innings and actually carried a shutout into the sixth. He allowed a sacrifice fly with two outs in that frame, then gave up a solo home run to Seth Smith in the seventh, with the bullpen later tacking another run on to his ledger. Despite his eighth loss, Cashner turned in his second consecutive quality start and has his ERA at a solid 3.58 on the heels of a difficult string of matchups. That figure could regress if the veteran continues to post a 1.41 WHIP and an unsightly 43:38 K:BB -- two areas he will look to improve upon Saturday against the Rays.

Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Stifles Red Sox on Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/6/17) Cashner (4-7) gave up two unearned runs on three hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out four in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Red Sox.

He no-hit Boston through 5.2 frames before a Xander Bogaerts homer ruined both the no-hitter and the shutout. Cashner's produced eight quality starts in 14 trips to the mound this season, but his 3.54 ERA is more than a full run better than his FIP and his 4.4 K/9 limits his usefulness in shallower fantasy formats.

Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Will start Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/5/17) Cashner (forearm) has been cleared to start Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Dave Sessions of MLB.com reports.

Cashner was pulled early in his most recent start last Thursday against the Indians after he was struck in the chest and right forearm by a piece of a broken bat, but after a few days of resting, he was able to shake off the pain and isn't expected to face any limitations in his return to the mound. Prior to exiting his last start -- his first since returning from a brief stay on the disabled list due to a minor oblique injury -- Cashner was roughed up for five runs on six hits and two walks. He'll likely make for a shaky DFS and weekly-league option against the Red Sox, who also tagged him for five runs in a May 23 outing.

Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Listed as Wednesday starter

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/3/17) Cashner (forearm) is listed as the Rangers' starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, the Associated Press reports.

Cashner's availability for the final week before the All-Star break seemed to be in jeopardy after he was hit in the right arm by a broken bat during his return from the disabled list last Thursday against the Indians, but the Rangers currently appear optimistic that he'll be able to make his next turn in the rotation. Assuming Cashner endures no renewed pain in his forearm during his bullpen session Monday, he'll likely be locked in for the Wednesday start, which would result in Austin Bibens-Dirkx moving back to the bullpen.

Rangers' Andrew Cashner: Could miss next start

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(7/1/17) Cashner (forearm) could miss his next scheduled start against Boston, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Although Cashner's projected start Tuesday was already up in the air due to his forearm contusion, the news of Martin Perez (thumb) potentially returning to the rotation could allow the Rangers to give Cashner some rest. If Perez is able to throw Monday, the team would likely move Yu Darvish back a day with Cashner or Austin Bibens-Dirkx vying for Wednesday's start. The team hasn't announced anything yet, but are likely to address the situation as soon as possible depending on the availability of Perez.
