| Losses beginning to mount for Wade Miley |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/19/13) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Wade Miley was effective over six innings Sunday against the Marlins, but he ended up as the tough-luck loser in a 2-1 loss. Miley was outdueled by Ricky Nolasco, who struck out 11 in eight-plus innings.
Miley (3-3) was locked in a scoreless battle until the Marlins scored twice in the sixth inning. The left-hander was charged with two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out six. Miley has lost three of his last four starts.
"I felt good out there," Miley said. "I was making pitches and throwing strikes. Just a couple of bad pitches cost you late in the game, especially in a game like that where it's 0-0. You've got to do better job."
Miley will pitch Saturday against the Padres. Miley lost to San Diego on May 3, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings.

| Wade Miley fades the deeper he pitches in games |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Wade Miley lost for the second time in three May starts Monday against the Braves, despite carrying a shutout into the fifth inning. Miley threw only 47 pitches in the first four innings but another 39 to the final 11 batters he faced, as the Braves scored seven times between the fifth and sixth innings.
"I was sort of messing up," Miley said. "Early in the game I was hitting spots and pitching down in the zone but then, just like that, I couldn't get it down anymore. I left pitches up and they capitalized."
Miley allowed seven runs, which were the second-most in his career. According to MLB.com, entering the game Miley had held hitters to a .178 batting average on his first 45 pitches but batters had hit .353 from his 46th pitch on.
"He didn't make the pitches he needed to make," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said. "This team, you don't want to give them anything because you know they are going to hit a home run. That is what they do well. We put guys on and they hit home runs."

| Wade Miley lets it get away |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley pitched four shutout innings at home on Monday against Atlanta. Everything fell apart beginning in the fifth inning.
Miley, who held a 1-0 lead going into the fifth, allowed a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer as he took a 3-1 deficit into the sixth inning. He didn't retire another batter before allowing four more runs.
Miley gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits and two walks over five official innings. He surrendered two long balls and threw 86 pitches. Solid until Monday, Miley's ERA is 3.75.
Miley took the loss to fall to 3-2. He was coming off a win his last time out in L.A. He's mostly been good this season and will look to rebound his next time out Sunday in Miami.

| Put Wade Miley to work |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/10/13) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Wade Miley is currently active in just 58 percent of CBSSports.com Fantasy leagues, despite sporting a solid 2.93 ERA and 3-1 record through his first seven starts. With a favorable schedule and two starts on the way in Week 7 (May 13-19), Fantasy owners will definitely want to get Miley into the starting lineup.
Miley will face the Braves' 12th-ranked offense Monday, and then gets a nice reprieve as he closes out the week Sunday against a Marlins squad that ranks near the bottom in every offensive category.
Miley's strikeout rate leaves a bit to be desired for a pitcher with his kind of ERA, but with two starts, that should not be a concern. There is little reason not to put Miley to use in Week 7.

| Wade Miley finally earns third win |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley picked up his first win since April 10 in Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers. He allowed two runs on seven hits over 7 2/3 innings in the 3-2 victory.
Miley gave up all of his runs in the fourth when after Nick Punto hit an RBI double, Adrian Gonzalez drove in a run off the left-hander with a two-bagger. Miley was done after throwing 102 pitches, 75 for strikes.
Miley also struck out four with no walks while earning his third win.
His next start is scheduled for Monday against the Braves.

| Wade Miley came out of nowhere to attain Fantasy relevance in 2012. The rookie finished the year 16-11 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. He struck out 11 batters and gave up just 14 home runs. Miley wasn't a top prospect (although he was a sandwich pick for Arizona in 2008), but he came into last season with a 3.69 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in the minors, so there wasn't much expected of him. Miley, though, kept a steady hand throughout the season, with his ERA under 3.50 in every month until September, when he likely encountered a little fatigue at the end of a long season, in which he hit 194 2/3 innings. There will be doubters -- Miley's 2012 could be seen as Ivan Nova's 2011, for instance -- and those doubters will allow Miley believers to snag him cheap on Draft Day. Expect him to be available in the later rounds for the fourth or fifth starter on most teams. (Updated 12/4/12) |
