Addison Reed picks up 30th save
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(8/23/14) Diamondbacks closer Addison Reed picked up his 30th save Saturday against the Padres.
Reed entered with a three-run lead and didn't disappoint. He notched a perfect inning. Reed struck out the first two hitters he faced, and induced a fly out to finish off San Diego. Reed lowered his ERA to 3.68 following the outing.
|2014 summary: Addison Reed's first season as a Diamondback did not go well enough for him to rank among the top 20 relievers in Fantasy points, but it didn't go so poorly for him to lose the closer's role. Nailing down 32 saves in 38 chances and striking out 69 batters in 59 1/3 innings helped to keep Reed relevant in some Fantasy formats, but a 4.25 ERA and 1.21 WHIP limited his value to that of a low-end option.|
Playing time status: Despite his difficulties last season, Reed will return as the Diamondbacks' closer.
2015 outlook: Perhaps with a new regime in place in Arizona, Reed won't have as long of a leash. After three full seasons, Reed's owns a 4.20 career ERA, and with strong flyball tendencies, that may not improve anytime soon. Even as a No. 2 reliever in mixed leagues, he is risky. If at all possible, pass on Reed outside of deeper leagues.
