Matt Holliday blasts off in Wednesday defeat

(8/27/14) Cardinals veteran outfielder Matt Holliday provided the only offense for his team in a Wednesday loss in Pittsburgh.

Holliday slammed a solo home run in the second inning off Jeff Locke to sweeten his stat line on the season to .263/.364/.412. He has 13 home runs and 68 RBI on the year.

(8/17/14) Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, who entered play Sunday mired in a 0-for-19 slump, received a day off against the Padres. Manager Mike Matheny feels Holliday's struggles are related to his left knee problems.

"I think they're interrelated," manager Mike Matheny said of Holliday's knee troubles and results, per MLB.com. "He's trying to grind for us because we need everyone to grind for us right now. He's feeling it. You can tell by some of his movements."

Matt Holliday returns to action Thursday

Holliday left Wednesday's game due to his knee flaring up, but was adamant that he would return to action Thursday. He's set to play left and hit third.

(8/13/14) Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was removed from Wednesday's game due to a knee issue, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Holliday said his knee "flared up" during the game. Despite the injury, he expects to play Thursday. Holliday went 0 for 3, with a walk, before being removed from the game.

(8/3/14) Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday went 1 for 4 with a solo home run in his team's 3-2 win over the Brewers Sunday.

Holliday's seventh-inning home run put his team on the board after six scoreless innings, and the offense was able to plate two more runs in the inning to take the lead and eventually win the game. The outfielder now has six home runs in 14 games since the All-Star break. Holliday has hit .269/.371/.426 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 390 at-bats.
